Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Obama: The Islamic State “is not ‘Islamic'”

Sep 10, 2014 9:59 pm By Robert Spencer

obama-shhh1“No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim.” It is good of Obama to try to explain exactly how the Islamic State is not Islamic, especially with Muslims from the U.S. trying to go to Iraq and Syria and join it. One of those supporters of the Islamic State, however, would respond that the people the Islamic State killed were not innocent, but culpable in some way, and that its Muslim victims were apostates or heretics, and hence their lives were forfeit.

The point is that this is more complicated than the President is making out. If the Islamic State so clearly and obviously violated basic tenets of Islam, there wouldn’t be hundreds of Western Muslims traveling to join it — something that we never saw in such numbers with al-Qaeda or other jihad groups. If the Islamic State were really so obviously un-Islamic, how is it that it came to call itself “the Islamic State” to begin with? That is, how did it gain any traction among any Muslims?

Obama and the other Western authorities who keep insisting that the Islamic State is not Islamic have never explained how this global misunderstanding of Islam arose and took root. They’ve never explained the texts and teachings of Islam that the Islamic State uses to justify its actions. And so while they keep insisting that the Islamic State is not Islamic, they only succeed in creating more cognitive dissonance, and raising questions about their own honesty and competence — at least, that is, among those who are not irredeemably blinkered.

“Obama: ISIL is ‘unique in its brutality’ — full transcript,” Chicago Sun-Times, September 10, 2014:

…Still, we continue to face a terrorist threat. We cannot erase every trace of evil from the world, and small groups of killers have the capacity to do great harm. That was the case before 9/11, and that remains true today. That’s why we must remain vigilant as threats emerge. At this moment, the greatest threats come from the Middle East and North Africa, where radical groups exploit grievances for their own gain. And one of those groups is ISIL – which calls itself the “Islamic State.”

Now let’s make two things clear: ISIL is not “Islamic.” No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim. And ISIL is certainly not a state. It was formerly al Qaeda’s affiliate in Iraq, and has taken advantage of sectarian strife and Syria’s civil war to gain territory on both sides of the Iraq-Syrian border. It is recognized by no government, nor the people it subjugates. ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.

In a region that has known so much bloodshed, these terrorists are unique in their brutality. They execute captured prisoners. They kill children. They enslave, rape, and force women into marriage. They threatened a religious minority with genocide. In acts of barbarism, they took the lives of two American journalists – Jim Foley and Steven Sotloff….

“They execute captured prisoners”: As for the captives, the amir [ruler] has the choice of taking the most beneficial action of four possibilities: the first, to put them to death by cutting their necks; the second, to enslave them and apply the laws of slavery regarding their sale and manumission; the third, to ransom them in exchange for goods or prisoners; and fourth, to show favor to them and pardon them. Allah, may he be exalted, says, “When you encounter those [infidels] who deny [Islam] then strike [their] necks” (Qur’an sura 47, verse 4) (Abu’l-Hasan al-Mawardi, The Laws of Islamic Governance).

“They kill children”: “It is reported on the authority of Sa’b b. Jaththama that the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him), when asked about the women and children of the polytheists being killed during the night raid, said: They are from them.” (Sahih Muslim 4321)

“They enslave, rape, and force women into marriage”: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war” (Qur’an 33:50)

“Certainly will the believers have succeeded: They who are during their prayer humbly submissive, and they who turn away from ill speech, and they who are observant of zakah, and they who guard their private parts except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed” (Qur’an 23:1-6).

“They threatened a religious minority with genocide”: “And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Qur’an 9:5)

That’s a valid question, John C. Barile, and a complicated one involving the individual personal gain of too many of our elected Civil Servants.

Day after day after day we read here and elsewhere accounts of the outright dangerous irrationality/silliness of Obama and his claque concerning the national security of our country and our intimately associated Muslim Problem, and yet nothing at all is being done to start the Impeachment Motion inside our august Congress. So, the answer has to be found along the corridors of closed doors of pragmatic Politics.

The politics of our Congress seems to be based upon maintaining individual tenure in their seats and basking in being at the centers of power in our America. Something, a spell of sorts, comes over these newly elected politicians as soon as they become ensconced on Capitol Hill. They’re elected because they seem eager to effect Change In Washington. Until they get there and settle in.

Now, the politics of our own day seem to be centered on perceived racism popping up at any hint of overt moves to unseat Obama. For anyone, or any small group of sensible brave souls putting the welfare of the Nation above their personal tenure has become political heresy on The Hill. To so move that Motion of Impeachment would run the risk of being labelled a racist. In the District of Columbia any sniff of wafting racism in a kiss of political death. Particularly with a half-Black man trading on that half-Blackness for his personal political gain. The very label, racist, is a kiss of political death.

Obama’s whole [known] history seems to be based upon his swimming immersed in the cesspool of racism, twisting in it to his gain.

So, we must suffer the likes of Obama and his ilk for the foreseeable future. The challenge is to work around that nasty bit of political reality.

Writing fooling comments the Barack Obama is a Muslim that give you emotional satisfaction only discredits the position you represented.

If Obama was an ISIS supporting Muslim, why would he take any military action?

Both George Bush and Barack Obama have engaged in the rhetoric that Islamic terrorists are not Islamic. It is probably the wrong policy, but they are probably trying to raise the passions of an average Muslim that this is not a war against their religion.

Precisely, Mr. Barile, some sort of barbaric remissness in Koran of such phenomena cleanly offering its suggestion only to the course which madmen in the Middle East esp, partially the entire world lays their hands upon Allah to forgive their acts which maim & murder their victims as if Allah had this consideration for them to do so without tending to the suffrage of several nations population itself of those madmen directly penetrating their interpretation – Obama could not understand it in the magnitude that was necessarily needed to stop the madmen from overthrowing community establishments, disrupting business, overthrowing power companies & oil/gas companies then Iran began to have many loses from their pipeline running into Syria which was suppose to be maintained by hired labor which the madmen killed or took prisoner, I really feel for all the people that have had a run-in with those madmen some dying incidentally and have wondered from the start why no one could stop the madmen as they gathered more members and grew & grew to what they became from their original purpose also having females to govern non member females under the old Sharia Laws and to have them castrated by the female policing force as they termed it was driving me crazy but not Obama as it seemed to me he had many occasions in Africa of the same issues which were determined not to be British Soldiers doing it but the beginnings of the Al-Qaeda force. In Saudi Arabia a member of The Arab League these events would not occur as such crazed beheadings are a governing factor for a hired executioner that has as his only specialty to behead crime charged individuals, mind you I do not believe in many crimes which the Sauds believe such as kissing in the public, driving autos if your a female, and others they tend to honestly think it is a sane motion which is not following Christian Belief; “Let us make History a place to remember and honor all those that lost their lives by barbaric madmen.” America’s history had a turn for the better once the madmen “Indians” were under control or had lost their battles following the loss of the British to be taxed by the King was another massive governing mistake Britain could have simply mingled into a political status rather than forcing itself onto the new prosperous land and not suffered defeat in war they caused. We do need to look at these madmen as simply madmen not as a respectful Islam participant with new Sharia Laws they are opposed to, no governing body has elected the participation of the madmen as such Saudi Arabia itself has groups it respects & is actually part of the government function esp in their military and judiciary actions. Britain would not be the same it the continuance of madmen attempt to make the old Sharia Law their responsibility instead of the British government, Britain needs to eliminate Sharia Laws and prosecute anyone that takes law into their own hands as it is not a defensive decision but more a offensive action madmen take. Religion & Government needs to be regulated as separate entities and no religion should control people anywhere or judge those that are innocent as their guilty ones for not having done anything to change the lives they live. ISIS is not a religious body nor group defending the proper ISLAM. Madmen need to be eliminated from society if they cannot be rehabilitated for the good of all the population. Hamas almost had the good worked out till they involved Palestinians & Gaza peoples in their offensive against Israel. Any & all offensives against Israel need be locked into conferences with Israel not other nations to defend that arena. Israel could become partners instead of hatted for having Zionist within their leadership. I must admit Zionist have not been the perfect solution within Israel and their mistakes have practically crippled other activities around the world placing much demand on their memberships. I would if I were a Emperor demand Zionist to loosen up their controls on people esp their financial and separate religious materialism and to not be a political adversary in military or government affairs. I would not put any faith in ISIS whatsoever nor believe that all of the Middle East become ISIL dominate, aside from the other freedom that Middle Easterners have those two entities would have to be eliminated from any possibility and I would not leave out eliminating Hamas or Hezbollah entirely. Religion is not a tool for government but is merely the right of the people to believe not act against society that holds rules it cannot agree with and not pull it into a political lime light of decision making over the population.
I appreciate your comment, Mr. Barile.

The Islamic trick is to define “innocents” in very special ways.

Thus, no Israeli is ever “innocent.” Perhaps no Jew is ever “innocent.” Perhaps no infidel is ever “innocent.” Anyone who is killed by IS is, by definition, NOT innocent.

Someone please tell me if this is a valid counterpoint to the arguement by the president explaining that the Islamic State is not Islamic.

If he were right, which we know he is not, then why aren’t Muslims everywhere exploding in violent protests to the “misrepresentation” and insult of their religion like they do when someone publishes a picture of Mohammed?

I must conclude that because they don’t protest violently everywhere that they really aren’t insulted and feel it is representative of Islam. How come nobody makes this point? (My apologies to you Robert if you have already made this point – ad nauseum).

I watched the post speech discussions on the Megyn Kelly show. About a half hour in to it I began to wonder if they were ever going to get around to the basic points that Robert raised. They dissected the whole speech but kept avoiding Obama’s remark about IS not being Islamic and the nonsense about no religion condones killing innocents. Finally she had Ted Cruz on and he did attempt to bring this into the discussion but every time he began to touch on it Megyn deflected him to another aspect of the speech. I’m sure this is the way it will be for the next few days with all the talking heads picking every sentence of the speech apart except the most import one.

I believe that these lies are all designed to cause the people, of all the earth (as they come from everywhere) to come to “worship the wild beast” of islam. (Revelation 13 says people are put under compulsion to worship the beast and compulsion is defined as: an irresistible urge to behave in a certain way, especially against one’s conscious wishes, or by Dictionary.com : a strong, usually irresistible impulse to perform an act, especially one that is irrational or contrary to one’s wil).
If the truth were told by all who know it, there would be fewer sitting by while their children, family members, etc. *convert* to the service of this beast. And possibly some of those who are thinking of converting as they search for meaning in their lives would realize what a monster islam is.
But then, the prophecy was given by a True Prophet and it will come to fulfillment. We can, although we do not wish to, expect to see more *convert* and many more lies will be told.

Of course IS is Islamic…..and the absense of Muslim condemnation (except to say that IS “pesents Islam in a bad way”) confirms it. . The problem is that NO ONE in Islam will say honestly that Islam is flawed at its core (ie, Muhammad was flawed). The “extremists” are actually most true to their flawed founder. Islam needs to be TOTALLY reformed from within or it will be TOTALLY destroyed from without. I am afraid the latter is inevitable since Muslims will never criticize what Muhammad did and said and so “extremists” (the most true followers) will always have the advantage.

In the past, religions such as the Aztec and Maya religion, Moloc worship and the Thugee cult have condoned the killing of innocents but the President uses the present (condones) so let ‘s go to the tape.

1- Police in Khurja, India, reported “dozens of sacrifices” in the period of half a year in 2006, by followers of Kali, the goddess of power.

2- Human sacrifice, in the context of religious ritual, still occurs in other traditional religions, for example in muti killings in Eastern Africa and West African Vodun.

3- A 1989 book by investigative journalist Patrick Tierney documents a modern ritual human sacrifice during the devastating earthquake and tsunami of 1960 by a Machi of the Mapuche in the Lago Budi community in Chile.

4- Islamic injunctions in the qur’an command Muslims to kill infidels wherever tlhey find them (2:191-193).

If I was an islamic believer I would mentally be in a safe place if brutality was deemed “unislamic.” I think that is the point of using the term “unislamic.” It doesn’t rock the mental belief boat or force confronting the false belief that pulling the bad tooth is worse than living with it. Like Rezlan said, “It’s the person not the religion.”
I would love to hear western apologists say that “IS is not quranic.”

  20. Angemon says

    Sep 11, 2014 at 7:45 am

Now let’s make two things clear: ISIL is not “Islamic.”

Yeah, it’s a Zionist-Christian-American-British conspiracy aimed at making islam and muslims look bad, just like 9/11, 7/7, 11-M, Fort Hood or the Boston Bombings. Isn’t that right, sheik Hussein?

No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim.

One man’s muslims is another man’s heretic, even if that other man is a muslim himself. Sunni and Wahhabi have no qualms about murdering Ahmadis. Does that mean that the Sunni and Wahhabi sects are not islamic? This kind of painting a broad brush is very misleading.

And ISIL is certainly not a state.

A bunch of thugs came in and claimed possession of someone else’s lands. Nations and empires have been built that way, particularly islamic empires. It’s not because sheik Hussein says that they’re not muslims or that they’re not a state that ISIS will see the errors on their actions and disband. And the longer they stay around, the more devout muslims will believe they’re the real deal.

It is recognized by no government, nor the people it subjugates.

It is, however, recognized by devout muslims living abroad who are willing to leave whichever country they’re living in to join ISIS – much to the annoyance of Western nations who, for some reason I can’t phantom, don’t want to allow ISIS supporters to leave their lands. Why should ISIS care about being recognized by governments when their goal is to spread the caliphate all over the world? If governments don’t recognize it and voluntarily submit then they’ll fight them.

ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.

Hmm, no. Terrorism is a mean to an end, and while it’s true that they have no qualms about killing those who stand in their way, it tells us nothing about what they want to achieve. Why are they willing to do that? What’s their endgame? Sheik Hussein never tells us that. He just wants us to know it’s not about islam. OK then, so it’s about what?

And how do you know if obama is lying? …yep, his lips are moving. Behold our *deceitful* muslim president.

    IF YOU ASKED OBAMA

if he thought America with its 3 million Moslems was more Islamic than the Islamic State how do you think he would answer?

Specifically, how is a mosque a threat to the community within which it is built?
Every single mosque in the world, by definition, is modeled on the mosque of Muhammad in Medina in accordance with the Sunnah. The Sunnah interprets the Qur’an by reporting exhaustively on everything that Muhammad said, did, or consented to. Therefore, his Medina mosque, the first mosque, was a place where he gave judgments, where he decided who would be executed, where he instituted policy—domestic and military— where Jihad war strategies were designed. Consequently, it was a storage place for arms, a military training base, and was where troops were blessed and dispatched. Literally they were sent to conquer – first the whole of Arabia, and then the rest of the known world. Therefore if the present-day mosque is modeled as per the Sunnah of Muhammad then there should be very serious concern. As is well-known, Muslims are required to follow the example (Sunnah) of Muhammad—and according to Sura 33:36 it is not an option or a matter of opinion: “It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allâh and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error.” This explains and establishes beyond doubt why arms have been found in mosques in various countries, and in different capital cities.

In regards to Israel: Obama uses the term ISIL and not ISIS. ISIL is the map of the middle east without Israel. Obama is referring to the Islamic state being one all inclusive caliphate, sucking up all the other small countries into one, including Israel. Of course we all know the real ISIL is as big as the world. It is not Obama’s skin color, it is the blackness of his evil lying mind possessed by Satan, just like most other Islamic evil ones.
Why has no one called Obama on his ISIL term and asked him to explain what that means.

This is the same man who thinks we have 57 states. Have we figured out yet that he is is a total idiot? He thought that being president was to consist of golfing, fundraising and vacationing. Fighting a war is beyond his pay grade. Come to think of it doing anything that is required of the president of the most powerful country in the world is above his pay grade. And we elected him twice!

Obama is very good at achieving his aims.

The vast majority of Americans do not understand Obama’s true aims. However, Obama’s numerous pronouncements over the years should leave no intelligent reader in any doubt.

It may have been a Mohammedan slip, since according to Muslims, there are 57 Muslim states in the world (collected together under the umbrella of the international organization, the O.I.C. — the Organization of Islamic Cooperation).

We are all born atheist. At one point in our young some thing happens this is called “indoctrination ” in one of the worlds religions. Never being indoctrinated I really don’t understand the religious mind set. Thanks to Robert Spenser I have educated myself in the Koran well enough to understand that Islam is run like a criminal organization. There is a bad loop in Islam. Self destructive actually, what happens when you run out of infidels . How do you fulfil the requirements of Jihad. How do you collect he tax. If no more people of the book or any other religion remains. One religion world. How does one go to heaven in the most honourable way and collect the 72 virgins in this scenario? The whole Koran sounds and feels so contrived. I don’t think the mob could come up with a better plan to enslave anyone that is different and thinks differently. God was so kind to the prophet, granted him every desire, how convenient . Beliefs will be a crime and potentially fatal one. Robert Spenser is correct to say the koran is their play book.
This movement is more dangerous than Nazi Germany. However I think the results will be the same. I never thought that in my life time I would see a religious war. This one is been going on for 10 years and people are not waking up. At one point you have to call it what it is.

Regardless of what muslims may claim, certainly no one is born with the belief that this or that religion is the right one, religious indoctrination plays a crucial role in that. But one thing that’s common among all civilizations regardless of ethnicity, geography or time period is the belief in some sort of deity/deities. I can’t think of a civilization who didn’t have its own religion(s).

David Cameloon is echoing this nonsene. The recent murder of a Brit in this ghastly mohammedan hot spot it turns out is nothing to do with mohammedism, and mohammedism is a religion of peace etc. I kid you not.
Sadly the brother of the murdered man was tricked into speaking on TV in a cringingly written for him script. I tried to add a comment on a British newspaper comment site but the comment was moderated out of existance – so I’ll put it here instead.

“That poor man, he has been clearly persuaded to deliver a speech written for him by government minders. It even includes him reciting part of the creed of the man who killed his brother. The particular quote makes the koran sound like is all love and decency. He quoted “Since good and evil cannot be equal, repel thou evil with something that is better and he that is your enemy will become your dearest friend” (koran 41:34)

He didn’t know that this is a command for believers in their dealings with other believers. Friendship with non believers is strictly forbidden (3:38) “Let not believers make friends with infidels in preference to the faithfull – he that does this has nothing to hope for from god – except in self defence. God admonishes you to fear him.”

Chapter 60 begins with ” Believers, do not make friends with those who are enemies of Mine and yours. Would you show them kindnesss when they have denied the truth that has been revealed to you? “.

Chapter 5:43 speaking of unbelievers ” They listen to falsehoods and practice what is unlawful. If they come to you give them your judgement or avoid them”. Many other identical verses exist.”
