Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Robert Spencer in FrontPage Mag: The War At Home

Sep 15, 2014 8:51 pm By Robert Spencer

Ali Muhammad Brown2Is the Islamic State here? Maybe. But the jihad certainly is. My latest in FrontPage:

As the Islamic State beheads a third hostage and the world recoils in horror and reassures itself that all this has nothing to do with Islam, it is useful to remember that jihad activity continues in the United States – although hardly anyone notices amid the rush to dissociate Islam from the mounting violence committed in its name and in accord with its literal teachings.

Take, for example, a Muslim from Seattle, Ali Muhammad Brown. KING 5 News reported that Brown is “currently in jail on $5 million bail for the alleged murder of a college student in late June.” He has “already been charged with gunning down two men at 29th and King Street in Seattle’s Leschi neighborhood on June 1.” And he is “now the prime suspect in a fourth homicide.”

The report noted laconically in its fifth paragraph, without elaboration, that “multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation say Brown told police he carried out the murders because he was on a jihad to kill Americans.” NJ.com added, also deep in its story on Brown’s murders: “Prosecutors say Brown is a devout Muslim who had become angered by U.S. military intervention in the Islamic world, which he referred to as ‘evil.”

That report also noted: “Ali Muhammad Brown said he considered it his mission to murder 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin as an act of ‘vengeance’ for innocent lives lost in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Iran. ‘All these lives are taken every single day by America, by this government. So a life for a life.’” This is a reference to the Qur’an: “We ordained therein for them: ‘Life for life, eye for eye, nose or nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal’” (5:45).

New York radio host Todd Pettengill, host of WPLJ’s “The Todd Show,” said that Brown’s murder of Tevlin was evidence that “domestic terrorism is already here.” Pettengill declared: “It was in fact an act of jihad, perpetrated by a fellow American who sympathized more with those who want to annihilate us than with his own country and its people.”

Pettengill is right. Domestic terrorism is indeed already here. And it was here before Ali Muhammad Brown went on his killing spree. Another Muslim from Seattle, Musab Mohamed Masmari, was sentenced on July 31 to ten years in prison for pouring gasoline onto a stairway in a famous gay nightclub, Neighbours, and setting the stairway on fire last New Year’s Eve, when the club was crowded. If the fire had not been put out – the carnage would have been great.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Greenberg said: “One of Masmari’s close associates was interviewed by investigators and reported that Masmari confided in him that he ‘burned a gay club’ and that he did it because ‘what these people are doing is wrong.’” In another report from February, we learn that an informant told the FBI before this attack that Masmari could be planning “terrorist activity,” and that he had “opined that homosexuals should be exterminated.”

This incident should have been the impetus for a national discussion of violent Sharia enforcement in the U.S., and an examination of what could be done to stop Sharia vigilantism. Instead, the mainstream media largely ignored the obvious motive; in this report, it is discussed as “homophobia,” with no hint that this was one of the first incidents of violent Sharia enforcement in the U.S.

There are many more recent domestic terrorism cases as well. In mid-June, a Tampa Muslim named Sami Osmakac was convicted of plotting to bomb a Tampa bar and then blow himself up in a jihad-martyrdom suicide attack in another crowded area of the city. Osmakac said of non-Muslims: “We will go after every one of them, their kindergartens, their shopping centers, their nightclubs, their police stations, their courthouses and everything until we have an Islamic state the whole world.” Shades of “slay them wherever you find them” (cf. Qur’an 2:191; 4:89; 9:5).

Then there was Ahmed Abassi, who, according to the New York Post, wanted to derail a New York-to-Toronto Amtrak train. He also discussed with another jihad terrorist “a plot to release bacteria in the air or water to kill up to 100,000 people.” He was also, according to Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara, plotting to “commit acts of terror and develop a network of terrorists here” in the U.S.

Abassi could have gotten fifty years in prison, but he “avoided terrorism charges by pleading guilty in Manhattan federal court to lying on his visa application and to immigration officials when asked why he flew to the United States in 2013.” Consequently, he could soon be a free man. What could possibly go wrong?

And let’s not forget Mufid Elfgeeh, a Muslim businessman from Rochester, New York. AP reported on June 2 that Mufid Elfgeeh “bought two handguns and the silencers as part of a plan to kill members of the U.S. armed forces returning from war as well as Shiite Muslims in western New York.”

AP, as anxious as Barack Obama or David Cameron to absolve Islam of responsibility for the evils done in its name, explained that Elfgeeh (like Ali Muhammad Brown) was plotting to kill troops “as vengeance for American actions overseas.” So why did he want to kill Shi’ites as well? As vengeance for Iran being a bitter enemy of his bitter enemy, the U.S.? Obviously Elfgeeh is a Sunni Islamic jihadist who wants to kill members of groups that he considers to be enemies of Islam. But AP will never tell you that.

The war is not just in Iraq and Syria (and Nigeria, and Thailand, and the Philippines, and Afghanistan, and Israel, and Egypt, and on and on). It is in the United States already. That war is the Islamic jihad against the West and the free world. There will be many more men like Ali Muhammad Brown and Musab Mohamed Masmari in the United States in the coming years. Actions like theirs will one day, not too long from now, be a more or less daily occurrence in the United States. But no need to be concerned: just remember, when things get really hot, that all this has nothing to do with Islam.

Would it be racist if I said “Thank God that Brown muslim guy is in jail”?

Dr. Samuel Johnson said, ‘Many great errors may be avoided by counting.’ Western politicians are not counting the number of Muslims who believe in jihad and who take the warlike verses of the Koran seriously.

Because they do not count, they make the wrong conclusions. Most Muslims support jihad, subjugation, misogyny, totalitarian government.

The undeniable fact is that the more Muslims in a country, the more jihad terrorists and supporters of terrorism you will have. We should stop all immigration from Muslim countries, except for those fleeing religious persecution. An America-hating Pakistani is not protected by our American constitution and has no right to immigrate to our country

I have to run down the screen to not have to look at this hideous creep. Perhaps these men become jihadis because they are so horribly ugly (plus making themselves even uglier with scraggly beards and idiotic clothing) that they have no chance of a consenting, adult, happy relationship. And once they are heavily into islam, no sensible woman would want anything to do with them anyway…

“Perhaps these men become jihadis because they are so horribly ugly”

It’s the other way around, they become ugly when they convert to Islam, they become normal when they apostacize. They are ugly because they hate.

The “war at home” hasn’t really started – not really.

It would be useful to have a discussion about what form that “war” might take, when it is finally initiated seriously, with a serious plan.

A series of attacks, starting small and then building up to larger events, so as to wear us down? Or perhaps nationwide simultaneous attacks, sort of a “Tet Offensive” approach?

One thing is for sure, it will be our cops on the front lines for this one. They will have a chance to “deploy and enjoy” all that fancy DOD gear that they have been collecting.

      Dave

how many other Vietnam vets, like yourself, grey in the beard but still physically able, are as jihad-aware as you are? Do you have many conversations about Islam with fellow Vietnam vets?

My own personal feeling is that – in the USA and Australia at least (I cannot recall which other countries assisted the USA in Vietnam) – the many, many old war-horses, veterans of Vietnam, who are scattered throughout our nations, might – if awareness of global Jihad were to reach and become common in their ranks – be something of an Ace in the Hole. They know how to fight and survive…in a very dirty war. They have the ability to lead and to organise others.

Somehow, the Q Society in Australia and ACT for America and others, and the jihad-aware in the UK, need to reach their able-bodied Old Soldiers. In Australia, the RSL (Returned Servicemen’s League). And whatever the equivalent is in the USA. And the jihad-aware need to be figuring out how to reach the recent veterans who are scattered throughout the UK, and assorted countries in Europe. Wherever men have fought in Iraq, or Afghanistan, and are now back home, no longer formally enlisted, and not so disabled by injury as to be incapable of fighting if the need arose.

I just came across a book which I think you and many others here would find of interest. It’s a detailed account of the jihad attack on Mumbai in November 2008, focusing specifically on what took place inside the “Taj” hotel. “The Siege: Three Days of Terror Inside the Taj”, by Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clark.

The best part of the book – and I thought of *you* and of “Undaunted” the moment I read it – was the story of two men with military experience who just happened to be inside that hotel, and who met each other during the chaos of the attack and teamed up to (successfully) shepherd out a large group of assorted civilians (including an 80-something Indian grandma, and a bunch of terrified South Korean tourists).

One was Bob Nicholls, a former Commando and British-born security expert running a VIP protection company, was in the hotel because his agency had just won the contract to provide security for the upcoming Champions League Twenty20; another was an ethnically-Indian American citizen, fighter pilot and Captain in the US Marines, one Ravi Dharnidharka, who had seen active combat in Iraq, and was at the hotel because he was visiting Mumbai in order to catch up with his Indian kinfolk (cousins, etc).

they made a pretty good team.

Hi dumbles, you remind me once again that I have failed to talk to the American Legion. It is an excellent Idea; I just keep putting it off. I shall “redouble” my efforts to find the ambition and perseverance to accomplish that task.

I fear for my country and the future battles our Armed Forces may have to wage. There is talk of getting the Sunni Tribes to “flip” and join us, as was accomplished under G.W. Bush. If that happens I foresee nothing but Jihadi traps and betrayal – and much American blood on the battlefield. We may well see the first defeat of American forces by force of arms in modern history.

You make thank Barak Obama and the Democrat Party for placing us in such a disastrous situation.

I shall read “The Siege…Inside the Taj Hotel” – just ordered it from amazon. Thank you for finding it and mentioning it. If you come across any other books or information on current Jihadi tactics, please call my attention to it.

I would love to find any information on the military tactics IS is employing in Iraq/Syria. It’s a pretty good bet that we will see similar actions here, sooner or later.

And I thought of you the other day, as I contemplated the IS army killing and raping its way across Iraq/Syria – how very much like an army of Orcs they are.

Hope you and yours are well, my friend.

The Islamic State is not islamic. The atrocities perpetrated by the Talibans and countless jihadis across the globe on almost daily basis have nothing to do with Islam, either. And, of course, the actions of OBL or Jawahiri are utterly unislamic….

Very soon, the learned dhimmi custodians of the current world order are going to declare that the teachings in the Quran, Sira and Hadiths have absolutely nothing to do with Islam. And finally, I can’t wait to hear, Mohmmad & Islam have nothing whatsoever, to do with ………Islam.

I’m the only one who has suggest that there might be a connection with the beheading of an innocent Christian man in a small town in southern Oregon three years ago, just two months after an Ashland Oregon mosque was shut down for terrorist ties and the leader was sent to prison for aiding terrorist rebels. Do you think?
    http://www.thedarwinpapers.com/Islamnews.html
This is possibly Oregon’s first case of domestic terrorism.
The police, the FBI, the media have all ignored the implications of this story.
    Please spread the word.

It seems very strange to me that our own government can’t or wont see the truth in all of this. How much longer can the American citizens look the other way? Is it so hard to say wait a minute something here does seem right. Both
Barack Obama or David Cameron seem to be intelligent people, so why can’t they see the truth here?

It time the citizen stand up and demand honesty and common sense.
