Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Robert Spencer in PJ Media: 10 Things We Should Have Done Since 9/11 to Defeat the Jihad

Sep 11, 2014 4:46 pm By Robert Spencer

…if I had been President of the United States. My latest at PJ Media:

Speaking from the Oval Office on the evening of September 11, 2001, I gave the American people and the world at large a brief explanation of the 1,400-year history of Islamic jihad, its ultimate goal of imposing Sharia upon the world, and how that would mean the denial of basic rights to women, non-Muslims, and others.

Looking straight into the camera, I said: “We do not seek war with Muslim nations. If war is brought to us, however, we will defend our nation, our allies, our freedom, and our families. We will not be subjugated. This is a different kind of war from the wars we have fought in the past. It is an ideological war and a war fought by believers in certain ideas rather than by soldiers from particular nations. We will, therefore, fight this new kind of war in a new way. No nation of the world will be a friend to the United States if it holds the beliefs that led to this heinous attack today and allows them to be taught. I invite and call upon the Muslims of the world to choose a society based on the principles of the freedom of speech and the equality of rights before the law. Make no mistake: we will defend those principles. And we will prevail.”

That evening I also instructed Secretary of State Bolton to start working in these directions (and seriously, if America had a sane and open-eyed political culture today, and an effective opposition to the ruling party, it would implement measures like these):

1. Tell the truth about Islamic jihad and supremacism.
Already on September 11, 2001, we were hearing that the attack had nothing to do with Islam. Thirteen years later, it is a constant crescendo. On Wednesday, Australian police raided an Islamic bookstore and arrested two Muslims on terror charges relating to their activities in recruiting Muslims for the jihad in Syria. Australian Federal Police National Manager Counter Terrorism Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan insisted: “This has got nothing to do with Islam, this is criminal behaviour by Australians involved in terrorist activity.” That same day, Secretary of State John Kerry said that the Islamic State’s “hateful ideology has nothing do with Islam.”

Gaughan and Kerry are just the latest in a steady stream of non-Muslims who know more about Islam than the leader of the Islamic State, the caliph Ibrahim, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who has a PhD in Islamic Studies. This denial and willful ignorance about the fact that Islamic jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify their actions and make recruits only fosters complacency among non-Muslims and makes them more vulnerable.

This denial and willful ignorance must be decisively rejected. Why? Because it kills. Thirteen people were killed at Fort Hood because U.S. Army officials were afraid to buck the politically correct culture and act against a Muslim officer who was in touch with Anwar al-Awlaki and had frightened his coworkers with his talk of jihad.

Ultimately, no good comes from evading and obfuscating the truth. Reality will always impinge upon fantasy, no matter how cleverly constructed.

2. Take pride in our own culture.

The U.S. today faces an even stronger enemy than the Islamic jihadists – and stronger than Russia and China as well. That enemy is the entrenched culture of self-hatred that denigrates anything and everything American, and exalts the most inveterate America-haters as heroic underdogs struggling valiantly against a brutal and blind behemoth. That entrenched culture is the foremost obstacle to our defense against jihad terror and Islamic supremacism, in a never-ending tale of obfuscation of a genuine threat and slander of those who call attention to it.

In the aftermath of 9/11, George W. Bush should have called upon the education establishment to reject the revisionism and self-hatred that dominates the textbook view of American history and Western civilization today, and to recognize that Western culture and civilization are seriously threatened today and are worth defending.

American citizens should stop spending so little time learning the history of their own country, and the civilization of the Western world, and so much more on a mishmash of practically everything — which, in the case of Islam, also has become a carefully devised method to impart misinformation. Islamic supremacists calculatedly employ the rhetoric of inclusion and multiculturalism to gain for themselves the right of final edit of discussion of Islam in American history textbooks. We must re-learn our own history. We need to take pride in much of it, and to revere, not find new ways to deride, those who built the political and legal institutions of this country, with its unrivaled freedoms and concern for individual rights.

It should also be made a requirement in public schools to teach that there is an ongoing Islamic jihad against the United States, and what a jihad is, and what it means to accomplish, and why it should be resisted.

3. Enforce existing laws.

Section 2385 of the federal criminal code states that,

whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government…shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.[1]

It could be that the proviso in this statute that the overthrow of the government must be planned as taking place by “force and violence” may prevent this law from being applied against Muslim Brotherhood groups that are intent on subverting America from within. Legal minds should study that issue. But surely – somehow — working toward “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within,” as the Muslim Brotherhood has stated its own strategic goal for America, ought to be a prosecutable offense.

4. Challenge Muslim organizations.

It is remarkable that thirteen years after 9/11, not a single mosque or Islamic school in the U.S. has any organized program to teach Muslims why the al-Qaeda/Islamic State understanding of Islam is wrong and should be rejected. Yet they ostensibly reject this view of Islam, so why don’t such programs exist? Even more remarkable than their absence is the fact that no government or law enforcement authorities are calling upon Muslims to implement them.

Such programs must be instituted, and made transparent and open to inspection, so as to ensure their sincerity and thoroughness.

5. Call on Muslim groups to renounce the aspects of Sharia that contradict constitutional freedoms.

The U.S. government should call upon Islamic advocacy groups in this country to renounce, in a sincere and genuine manner, any intention now or in the future to replace the Constitution of the United States with Islamic Sharia. The sincerity of this renunciation should be demonstrated by transparent action to teach in mosques and Islamic schools against this intention, and against the elements of Sharia that contradict American freedoms.

Those that refuse to do this, or are found to be teaching these aspects of Sharia, should be immediately reclassified as political organizations, not religious ones, and made subject to all the accountability to which political groups are ordinarily held. Those that continue after this to teach political Islam should be closed and prosecuted.

6. End U.S. government cooperation with groups linked to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Thirteen years after 9/11, Muslim organizations with proven ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), exercise extraordinary influence in Washington (particularly the Holder Justice Department), as well as in the mainstream media.

A Spencer administration would have banned government officials from having any contact with organizations that the Justice Department had designated unindicted co-conspirators in cases involving jihad terror activity. Would the Roosevelt Justice Department in 1943 have held outreach programs with groups that had demonstrable ties to the Nazis?

Absolutely Robert do I agree with #1. However, #2 is a bit difficult for me. I cannot take pride in a culture that has lead to 1.3 billion abortions in less than 40 years, 50% divorce rates and a destructive contraceptive mentality. I cannot take pride at all as a Catholic in the train-wreck culture of death that pervades American and thus worldwide culture today. Sure, even this wreckage is better than the barbarism of the Sharia, but in reality the liberalist culture just as strongly needs to be attacked not only for its PC attitude with regards to Islam as well as to all the other social issues mentioned.

Having read your books though Robert, I know that you know this and apart from this perhaps, I very much agree with the rest of your list. I would definitely vote for you if you were running for President… and if I were American… 🙂

As I am sure you know, Western Civilization is a product of Christianity which also took the best of classical culture, both Greek and Roman, the Greek part being mainly its philosophy and the Roman part its law, as Pope Benedict told the German parliament. Therefore, without the support of Christianity it cannot stand. Liberalism, secularism, relativism which is incapable of inspiring youth with any worthwhile ideals or heroism is not going to be able to face up the the jihadist attack. Today is also the day on which in 1683, the heroic King of Poland, Jan Sobieski and his brave soldiers routed an Turkish army of 300,000 at the gates of Vienna and whose plans included taking -Rome and converting the St. Peter’s into a mosque just like they did with the Basilica of Holy Wisdom in Constantiniple in 1453. The Christian army was about a tenth of the size of the mulsim one, but the soldiers and their leaders had a real ideal and fought to defend their faith (they carried the cross and the image of the Virgin of Chestochowa), the their families whom they knew would be butchered by Islam and the whole of Christian Europe. Of course, in those days there were also traitors such as the Sun King of France, Lous XIV, who did all he could be prevent the Poles from going to Vienna. Can secularism inspire anyone to take up arms for a noble cause and defend fundamental values in danger from Islamic savages? The answer is obviouls.

Julian, Robert Spencer is not urging anyone to take pride in Western culture’s flaws and shortcomings.

But if you take no pride in your own civilized culture, then you *might as well* roll over for Islam.

America and the rest of the Allies were hardly perfect when we faced down Fascism—but we were still worth fighting for.

And fighting for civilization *hardly* means that you do not continue to fight for justice and improvement in your own society—really, they are of a piece, not somehow in conflict.

Per Pew Research Center, Muslim “Legal Permanent Residents” increased between 2001-2012 by ca. 1.2 million, or ca. 100,000 per year.

Roughly two-thirds of Muslims worldwide polled by various organizations support shariah, so one can assume a majority of those let into the U.S. do, too.

Few if any of these new residents are vetted by the U.S. government, which seems to assume that the more the better (surely, the more exposure to “others,” the better our mutual “understanding” will be – try that with predatory wolves).

As the younger Tsarnaev demonstrated, swearing a citizenship oath is meaningless when it comes to actual (or later) identification with the Ummah.

Clearly, building up Trojan Horse immigration communities at home is ludicrous and self-destructive.

I agree; but so many in the Counter-Jihad regard Muslim citizens of Western states to be magically immune from the fanatical resolve to seditiously wage war (either violent or stealth, or both) against us; and so they counsel us to throw up our hands in sincerely consternated impotence at the prospect of millions of Muslim citizens throughout the West infiltrated in all positions of society (including government, power plants, water treatment plants, computer grids, hospitals, clinics, food service — i.e., exquisitely opportune sites for the planning of terror attacks more horrific than 911 or any other attack the West has suffered to date).

Of course not, but he is the hatmonger and not this gal who is obvioulsy spewing out hate. However, never expect a minimum of logic or rationality from a muslim as what they try to defend is to patently false that their only option is to have recourse to such logical fallacies. They seem to be experts in the use of logica fallacies. In every debate with them on youtube, one gets the same fallacies from them plus blatant lies. So, they consider the rest of us as idiots unable to discover their insecurity and lack of logic.

    I would have nuked Mecca.

Islam would have been made “touchable”. The delusions would be replaced by a lake of glass where the fake tomb of the “prophet” once stood. Islam would have been destroyed as the literal caveman religion it is, and a transformation would have been forced upon it, freeing millions and advancing the world as a whole for the better. The suffering and horrors and enslavement off all those millions of people and the generations to come, make it a far more humane and intelligent decision than the bombs that ended WW2.

That’s what I would do if I ran the zoo.

    • gravenimage says

      Sep 11, 2014 at 11:25 pm

Don, I don’t believe for a minute that “nuking Mecca” would destroy the doctrine of Islam and free millions of people from its malignant effects.

All it would do would give Muslims another “grievance” against the “filthy Kuffar”.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that we shouldn’t do it—just that it would likely change very little.

      • Don McKellar says

        Sep 12, 2014 at 2:08 am

It would destroy the very fabric and being of Islam. A myopic and literal religion all centered on one (fictional) man and one very real place. Take away the tomb of the “prophet” and the place where all Muslims pray to every day, five times a day and the religion as it exists will be shattered. It is the most fragile and weak of religions — which is why it is so violently defended. Everything is literal for Muslims. There is no nuance or abstract. That’s why the most devout of Muslims always keep rearing their ugly heads and taking over, imposing exact copies of what they read in the Koran and hadiths. They think Mecca is immortal. Their prophet untouchable.

But imagine if every day, five times a day, a Muslim crouches down to bang his head on the floor and all he can think about is how his holy place he’s facing is only a lake of radioactive glass. Destroyed by mere infidels. Infidels have defeated and obliterated the tomb of the “prophet” and the black stone they think is holy is vapourized into nothing. How strong is their faith, now? It has been wiped out. Literally. Islam as we know it would be finished.

It would sink in: they believed in something which could be destroyed. And was.

The despicable Graven wholeheartedly agrees “That doesn’t necessarily mean that we shouldn’t do it”

Kuffar and Kuffara – strangers bonded through JW to advocate the slaughter by the millions – and to maim by millions too ….

…homo sapiens thousand of miles from their homeland – who are no more than strangers to them – who may have gone to pray to Allah SWT for their loved ones, for their health and for strengthening their faith, for their children to pass their exams – these and others, just opening their shops to sell authentic Koran from their bookshops…

…whilst other muslims from far and wide… in the air at that moment …in their Boeing passenger planes eagerly await landing to see the land of the prophet SWT, the gifts of the prophet SWT and the tomb no less of Muhammad SWT.

King Abdullah and his 80 or so hierlings – all to be gone… incinerated with 100M deg C heat followed by the 200+ miles per hour hot searing destructive wind ….flowing 360d around maiming , killing..searing….all too horrific to even contemplate.

This is what the two – Don and Graven stranger kuffar want in revenge/exchange for knocking down the towers and 3300 deaths. That too was a tragedy – perhaps the greatest after Pearl harbor.

Sunnis (and the odd shia) kill and IS is dastardly in their deeds and means and a few thousand are killed and thousands more are displaced – but these kuffar want numbers of death to be counted like grains of sand in a desert – hot searing sand that cannot be touched …but is melted and fused into unidentifiable objects – on an industrial scale beyond the holocaust.

So to all the kuffar who ask “why the enmity – why dar-al Islam and dar-al harb?”….

I say “Look at yourself …your thought process” – it is neither humane or christian – do you really need me to say more?”

I have always said live and let live – with the odd bit of Islam thrown in – but this? …I feel so much disgust and dirty to be human – to know kuffar can think this?

        More Later ….

And why do you say that millions would be killed when there are not that many people living there, so, probably less than 100,000 would be killed? (not that that is any less horrific.) … You say that these are ‘homo sapiens, thousands of miles (away)’ who (you imply) are innocents. And yet what is Islam’s view of Non-Muslims in war? Isn’t it that no civilians are to be considered innocent if they are ‘kuffar’? Nice try, but the ideas of separating the world into Dar Al-Harb and Dar Al-Islam, and of perpetual enmity between muslims and others predates the Year 2001 by at least a thousand years. They did not come after America responded to those attacks, nor do they have anything to do with inhumane or non-christian thoughts on the part of the ‘kuffar’.

While you may hold it personally and might practice it in your life, this idea, what we in the West call “The Golden Rule”, is not found in either the Koran, the ahadiths or the Sira and has never been part of Islam. Islam teaches it’s adherents to be merciless to those who disagree with it. Thus the 1400 years of near perpetual war against ‘The Others’.

It’s also quite tedious to read SWT after Mohammad every time. Question – If you skip doing it one time, will you go to hell, or are you just afraid that if you don’t write it that way your Muslim ‘brothers’ will kill you? (it is such a peaceful religion after all.)

And if you are really morally better than us (as you probably believe), why insult us constantly by calling us kuffars? Doesn’t that mean ‘unbeliever’? Don’t you know that of all the Western nations, the people of the US are the most God loving and church going of then all? So in what sense are we ‘unbelievers’? Because we don’t unquestioningly believe in or convert to YOUR ‘religion’?

The late Lawrence Auster at his blog(View From The Right) wrote an article where a future President of America addresses the Muslim problem the country faces. It is a long article but it is worth reading. You can skip the first part which is mainly background and the author’s rationale for the measures he is proposing to deal with the Muslims in America.

    “My fellow Americans:
I come before you this evening to discuss an unprecedented challenge in the history of our Republic, which will require unprecedented measures to meet it. We must think anew and act anew. But, in reality, what we must do is not new at all. It is the way things used to be, before we went so badly astray.

In my speech last week I spoke to you about the nature and doctrines of the Islamic religion; of the permanent state of war that it establishes between itself and all non-Muslim societies; of its ultimate aim of subjugating all of humanity to the law of Islam, known as the sharia; and of the fact that all believing Muslims, whether they are fanatics or moderates, whether they are jihad warriors or people who only believe in spreading sharia peacefully, are all part of one Islamic community, all strengthening in their respective ways the Islamic political agenda of bringing all non-Muslims under the rule of Islam………..

My purpose is not to promote hostility against Muslim persons or to spark civilizational warfare between the West and Islam, but to reduce and end the current increasing civilizational warfare, by separating Islam from the West. We respect the right of Muslims to follow in peace their religion in their lands. But in order for us Americans to follow in peace our religions and flourish in our way of life, the followers of sharia need to leave our country and return to the historic lands of Islam.”

There are many minor details to add but this is a great start Robert. I would suggest that there be tough laws regarding the education of our citizens. Such education should spell out how the ideology and political Islam seek to deny basic human rights that are enshrined in our constitution through forced conformity and denial of individual liberty.

Perhaps the curricula of “Islamic Studies” at our institutions of higher learning should be run by non-Muslims? Might be just a little more objective than the present practice of Muslims “studying” themselves, while proselytizing and advancing the usurpment of Western civilization.

We pay them well to do this – nice work if you can get it. Time for some radical downsizing in this area.

There was not one mention of 9/11 on any news bulletin I saw yesterday in the UK.

Neither did I see it in a number of newspapers I looked at.

    it’s simply disappeared.

Spencer got it wrong. 1st thing we do is SECURE OUR BORDERS, SHUT DOWN ALL IMMIGRATION INTO THIS COUNTRY TILL WE FIND OUT JUST WHO IS HERE.
Al Qaeda is a thousand times more dangerous now than they were on 9-11. And our borders are wide open. It’s a matter of when and how big. They got a dozen commercial airplanes and hundreds of surface to air missiles. On 9-11 all they had were box cutters.
This time they’ll hit Europe, North America, and the Middle East all at once and shut down air travel for the entire world. Instant economic collapse.
Someone find a flaw in my reasoning. Someone say this is just a bad dream instead of reality.

“Take pride in our own culture”?? Heh. It’s easy to see how Section 2385 could be written in the context of the Kingdom of Great Britain (1 May 1707 to 31 December 1800) to criminalize secession:

“…whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the Kingdom of Great Britain or the government of any Colony,…”

So, once again you’ve proved yourself to be wrongheaded and a common fetishizer of “law and order”, which is what I expect from the Islamic vermin, too, whenever it suits their supremacism. Still, it remains true that I have the authority to abolish your intrinsically criminal government. Sec. 2385 is no law at all but, at most, an excuse for malicious prosecution, aggression, assault, battery, etc.

“Easy to see” if one drops all relevant context and begins from the premise that there is no significant difference between a constitutional republic, a monarchy and a totalitarian state, and that there is no possible rational basis for law and order.
    “Fetishizer of law and order”?
Now THAT is a designation with no identifiable content whatsoever, and which allows one to equate Thomas Jefferson with Mao Tse Tung.

Nice bit of moral relativism there.

Since yesterday was the thirteenth anniversary of that hideous and evil jihad affront that occurred on September 11, 2001 by those Al Qaeda operatives who hijacked those planes. It should be stated that they were both evil and deluded. They were evil because their vicious and violent actions on those planes resulted in the murder of so many people. They were deluded because the believed that they would receive a lust filled paradise with many virgins, houris. in it. Each virgins for his use only. This outcome the those Muslim terrorists believing in this outlandish, bizarre and far-fetched {Islamic] was mass murder and much mayhem. That this strange and weird belief in a sex filled place with virgins resulted in the brutal and deadly actions of the Muslims who were Al Qaeda operatives is outrageous, awful and terrible. To it another way, The French philosopher, Voltaire, wrote “As long as men continue to believe in absurdities they will continue to commit atrocities.”

Evil – yes, deluded – yes, but something worse has happened since 11th September 2001. The weakness of Western civilization was laid bare on that day and in the 13-and-counting years since then. We went into self-flagellation overdrive almost before the second tower had finished collapsing. Every response to terrorism was opposed by stupid Western airheads with the usual refrains “We must have done something to upset them” or “Responding to terrorism begets more terrorism”. We are nowhere near winning because we haven’t fought to win. We have fought with both hands tied behind our backs, and that is how we expect the Israelis to fight against the likess of Hamas. The better generations like the World War I and II generations who fought against ruthless German and Japanese troops have passed into history or are now old men, and today it is left to the much less determined PC-addled generations led by empty suits. It doesn’t look very good.

Just yesterday was the thirteenth anniversary of that heinous and deadly jihad attack of both humankind and America. It thus would be wise to have both Fortitude and Vigilance. For the enemy is still scheming for a future attack. Thomas Jefferson put this type of idea down in words in a good way. For Mr. Jefferson wrote “Fortitude…teaches us to meet and surmount difficulties; not to fly from them.” and “Let the eye of vigilance never be closed.”

    Reading exercise, applying 18 U.S. Code § 2385:
    Dennis v. United States, 341 US 494 (1951)

To acknowledge Islam’s true nature, roughly resembling Islamic State, would necessarily require that we acknowledge that advocacy of the same (applicable to most Imams) is a criminal offense. Hence the pretense that genuine Islam is not really genuine Islam. It would also require a halt to all Muslim immigration.

A prosecution of pre-violent jihad within America (well, mostly pre-violent) would appear to survive the test in Dennis that the immediacy of the attempted overthrow be as “speedily as the circumstances would permit.” One need not wait until an overthrow attempt will succeed or have a chance to succeed.

    From the Justice Jackson concurrence:

“Their strategy of stealth precludes premature or uncoordinated outbursts of violence, except, of course, when the blame will be placed on shoulders other than their own.”

You said Robert! How simple it could be if only the denials were stopped, so would be the continuing problems arising from the denials. I think your plan should be put in place everywhere there is a constitutional country experiencing the same problems. You should consider running for office!
