Herve Gourdel was beheaded just after the Islamic State called for attacks “especially” against the “spiteful and filthy French.” The Soldiers of the Caliphate in Nigeria unaccountably misunderstand Islam in the same way as the Islamic State does, and sympathize with it.
“Beheading of Frenchman in Algeria won’t deter France, Hollande says,” by Kim Willsher, Los Angeles Times, September 24, 2014 (thanks to Darcy):
French President Francois Hollande said Wednesday that the decapitation of a French tourist by extremists in Algeria would not cause his country to abandon military action against Islamic State.
Hollande, speaking at the United Nations, said France would continue fighting terrorism despite the killing of Herve Gourdel, whose execution was shown on a video titled “Bloody message to the French government,” released by a group linked to Islamic State, according to the SITE Intelligence Group and Agence France-Presse news agency.
“The perpetrators of this odious crime must be punished,” Hollande said at the annual meeting of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
Gourdel, 55, from the Mediterranean city of Nice, was abducted Sunday while vacationing in Algeria. A mountain guide and photographer, he was walking in the mountainous region of Kabylie when he was kidnapped.
The group called Jund Khilafah, or Soldiers of the Caliphate, had threatened to execute him within 48 hours unless France ceased airstrikes on Islamic State positions in Iraq. France joined the United States in airstrikes in Iraq last week, though it so far has not taken part in attacks on militant positions in Syria launched early Tuesday by the United States and five Arab allies.
The video released Wednesday showed Gourdel with four masked militants who read a statement in Arabic, criticizing the French intervention in Iraq.
After pushing him onto his side and appearing to hold him down, one of the men holds up a severed head.
“This is why the Soldiers of the Caliphate in Algeria have decided to punish France, by executing this man, and to defend our beloved Islamic State,” says one of the killers to the camera.
The killing came three days after an Islamic State leader urged people all over the world to attack citizens of Western states, including the U.S., France and “their allies.”
“If you can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and filthy French — or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State, then … kill him in any manner,” wrote Abu Muhammad Adnani, an Islamic State spokesman….

What person in their right mind would be traipsing around in the Kabyle mountains in Algeria at this time in history when Muslims are devolving & metastasizing? And it’s reasonable to suppose that this Frenchman made it easier for his abductors to abduct him, during his stay there by trusting some nice friendly Muslims (because, naturally, he would believe that if a Muslim is nice and friendly, he can’t be fanatically dangerous) who colluded with the ISIS contingent.

I must agree, the light headed naiveté is astounding.

Yes and no.
The south and east of Algeria were known to be dangerous.
The area where he was trekking (the kabyle mountains, by Tizi Ouzou) is only 100km away from Algiers and although it was known that extremism movements were on the raise there (mostly as contestation movements against the Algerian government), that area was not know as particularly dangerous for tourists.
There is still a lot of French tourism all over Africa, including in the Sahara desert, which is considered a way more dangerous area.
I personally wouldn’t go there, but a lot of people who first visited these places years ago still go, thinking it’s still safe.

Notice that all of Cedric’s “nos” hinge on conventional perception: “not known as”; “considered”; “a lot people… thinking”.
Seeing that the conventional view is that only a Minority of Extremists are the problem and that ordinary Muslims can’t possibly be dangerous (particularly when they are nice and friendly), these hinges are worthless and reckless, and are serving to reinforce the prevailing paradigm that is increasingly rendering the West vulnerable to a metastasizing danger.

Actually, my comment was based on the recommendations of the French Foreign minister website for Algeria (http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/conseils-aux-voyageurs/conseils-par-pays/algerie-12196/) and surrounding countries, plus my own experience with people travelling to Africa.
until that beheading, nobody in France was saying to tourists: do not go there, it’s too dangerous.

Hey voeg – according to the article he loved the Maghreb. I guess up until the residents were slicing his head off.

Precisely! I’m quite sure the mountains there are lovely, but there are other mountains to hike in where terrorists do not reside, and where hikers have gone before and returned so they could hike there yet again. I also understand that the journalists who lost their heads were leftists, which was no reason to kill them, of course. But such writers or photographers looking to blame America for the world’s ills are misguided at best and things generally do not go well for people who venture into places where uncivilized people live.

Of course they were “Islam is peace” leftists. I feel sorry for them but oh wow the sheer stupidity.

wrong place to be trusting in humanity.
fronts are opening up everywhere and the atrocities are becoming for frequent very quickly.
as it has since the ‘arab spring’ .. it will get to the point where there are just too many images or to much footage for the pc/wider community etc to ignore..
and beheadings are frequent now, and of course, horrific.
one particularly graphic, horrible act will tilt the balance. its getting closer.
or accumulating.
surely.

I truly couldn’t believe it yesterday when I saw there was another beheading. But count on our president to keep assuring us that Islam is peace!

French traitor leaders massively colonised France with muslims and pays tribute to the Murderous Blood Cult allah moon god by giving muslims free housing, free money and everything. The Islamic State rewards the French for muslim colonisation and financially providing for muslims by calling the French: “spiteful and filthy French.”
Muslim immigrants in France thank French infidel leaders by burning thousands of French infidel cars every year and carving out several hundred no-go muslims zones where it is too dangerous for non-muslims to enter.
The muslim Fifth Column is ready and eager to carry out jihad.
Western leader traitors are digging our graves.

And worldwide, Muslims do nothing to stop ISIS, but say, “Islam is the religion of peace.”
Bull.

I’m genuinely curious: would he change his mind if faced with “youth” riots similar to the ones back in 2005?

I am a leftist. Islam must be banned and muslims driven out of all civilized countries.
The prophet they revere was a slaver who chopped off the heads of captives, raped women and children, tortured and stole from unbelievers, did not recognize the concept of human rights and set himself as the perfect example of mankind to be revered and emulated.
There is no such thing as a “good muslim” because, no matter how much they hate violence, they breed prolifically and they teach their children to follow one of the most evil men in history. It is no surprise that many of the young become jehadis; it’s what Mohammed was and what he taught. What is surprising is that they are not ALL jehadis.
Our politicians, from Bush to Obama continue the big lie that islam teaches peace – because of oil. WE NO LONGER NEED THEIR GD OIL!
We can develop wind, solar, geothermal, tidal and many other renewable sources of energy, including synthetic oil from hemp and other sources to replace what we would lose by cutting off the money spigot to these barbarians – and we need to do that NOW! When we do that, muslims will produce goatherds and not much else.
But we have to UNITE as Americans and reject the lies of our politicians of the left and right. Bush started pushing that religion of peace crap from the rubble after 9/11. Obama continues the lie.
Yes, the right is ahead of the left on this issue, by miles. But unless we can convince the left that Mo wasn’t simply the Arab Jesus, and the right to recognize that our congress is a wholly owned subsidiary of big oil and that promotion of renewable energy is a matter of national survival, and everybody that mosques aren’t simply places of worship, our society is doomed.
Will says
As an ex Green I agree but I see the non fossil energy sources as a joke until we can remove the oil industry’s power over them in the patents offices of the west. Do you know about the “closed category” of patents? Any patent so remarkable as to destabilise oil prices is locked in and never let out. Such is the power of the oil rich. That is why so many “wonders’ never see daylight.

Why is it whenever Obama mentions an ISIS/IL IS threat the next state is implicated in a beheading and eventually will need an armed response from the Arab Coalition of the Qatari Janissary, can we call this the New World Order providing an Arab Spring with Air Support ?
