Torquil Campbell should move south to El Ay. He would fit right in with Kristen Stewart and Neil Young and all the other star-studded idiots. In any case, this is how the Left thinks: with an unconscious colonialist paternalism, they assume that Muslims could never be acting for reasons of their own. They are merely passive reactors to whatever the big bad white non-Muslim West does. And so if a jihadist goes on a shooting rampage in Ottawa, it must be because of Harper’s policies. It couldn’t possibly be because of the jihad doctrine within Islam. And of course it never occurs to Torquil Campbell how much this stance of his resembles that of the old White-Man’s-Burden colonialist whom he doubtless despises. Yet both he and they think of the West as the only force in the world capable of rational thought and action, and of the Muslim world as simply raging irrationally against the West’s depredations, incapable of any independent thought or action.

The shootings in Ottawa today prompted many Canadians across the country to turn to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
But a series of tweets by Stars singer Torquil Campbell, sent while parts of Ottawa were still on lockdown, caused considerable outrage as he called Prime Minister Stephen Harper a “fascist,” implied that his policies were indirectly responsible for the attack and predicted “this terrible event will be used by @pmharper to further his authoritarian agenda.”
He also claimed “this government has made this country the kind of place where these things are more likely to happen” and added “tell the lies, foment the fear, watch the people fall in line. it’s a good day to reread 1984.”
It all began with this tweet that Campbell sent this morning this morning:
