He’s half-right. No one indeed is addressing the causes of terrorism, but in most cases nowadays they have everything to do with Islam. “Erdogan: No one is addressing the causes of terrorism,” Middle East Monitor, September 29, 2014:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that “humanity is facing a case of international terrorism and it is threatening world security”, adding that “everyone is talking about the consequences, but no one is addressing the causes. Everyone is talking about the situation that has emerged in the past two months without mentioning how it came about and how it reached this level. No one is discussing how these young people have been able to commit such heinous crimes.”
The president made this statement during a speech today before the International Forum for Public Health and Drug Combat Policies in Istanbul.
Erdogan went on to say that associating the ongoing terrorist activities and organisations in the Middle East with a particular religion, especially Islam, “is nothing more than deviating from the truth”.
Erdogan wondered why his “European friends” were not concerned about the terrorist organisation the “PKK”, the Kurdistan Workers Party, in Turkey. He responded: “Because this organisation does not have the word ‘Islam’ attached to it and has no relation to Islam.”…
Maybe also because the Kurdistan Workers Party hasn’t threatened imminent mass murder attacks in Europe.

Am so tired of hearing ” It has has nothing to do with Islam ” — all terrorists are Muslims and yell ” Allahu Akbar ” — but no it has nothing to do with Islam .
It’s the only ideology that accepts and even required to kill everybody who is not a Muslim !

Erdogan believes in the caliphate and his reasons not to fight the terrorists the he denounces is that he secretly agrees with them. And of course, he opposes Kurdish nationhodd. He is also a disciple of the moslem brotherhood. Nice guy!!??

Erdogan is scared shitless that ISIS will make it over the border into Turkey, otherwise, he would say or do anything. My God, he’s more transparent the even Obama. And not transparent in the good way. It all makes me sick.

I see this sort of remark somewhat encouragement. For certain it indicates a level of defensiveness. Meaning that the truth is more and more emerging, and that Muslims are recognizing that the wool is no longer long enough to be stretched over the whole world’s eyes as to the base motivation of the jihadis, and that Muslims must act defensively.
Peter Buckley says
If anyone asks why we should support the Kurds, here’s the answer:
“Casting Israeli soldiers in the role of protectors may have seemed strange to many in the West, particularly when Israel has been embroiled in a bitter war with Hamas in Gaza that has killed nearly 2,200 Palestinians and 68 Israelis.
Yet while Israel’s relations with its neighbours remain deeply problematic, its ties with the Kurds have for years helped nurture a military force that has proved itself more resilient than the US-funded Iraqi army. For years Israel’s relationship with the Kurds was kept secret, but gradually the issue has cropped up more and more in interviews in Israeli media and in academic reports.
The Kurds constitute the world’s largest stateless people. There are 30 million Kurds, mostly spread across Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey. They have been seeking a state of their own for centuries.
Although the links between Jews and Kurds go back centuries, the substantive roots of the relationship go back to the 1930s, when a Jewish journalist stationed in the Kurdish part of Iraq and writing for the Palestine Bulletin began making contacts with local activists.
Years later, that journalist, Reuven Shiloah, became the first director of Mossad, Israel’s external intelligence agency.”

That is so contrary to the holy f. Quran!! That is so contrary to the teaching of the great f. Prophet Mohammed and his f. innocent biography!!!
“So when you meet those who disbelieve, strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allah – never will He waste their deeds.” Quran, Surah F. Mohammed

My God, what crap. Young men are not running off to join ISIS because they were abused by a teacher or a Boy Scout troop leader. What utter rot.
Muslims young and old are running off to commit atrocities in the Islamic State because they believe that this is the new Caliphate, and is being run according to Islamic Shari’ah. And they got that idea because the bloody Islamic State is run exactly on tenets of the Qur’an and Hadith and on the model of the “Prophet”.
The idea that those raping Christian and Yazidi girls and beheading journalists and aid workers are misunderstood youth who were molested by the parish priest could not be more ludicrous.
“R Davis’s” misdirection and mock outrage could not be more offensive.
gravenimage says
Also, “R Davis’s” assertion that “everybody [gets} away with [molesting children]” is *not* true. Unlike in the Muslim world, molesting children *is a crime* in the free West. The very fact that these cases have because scandals is that abusing children is decried and *punished* here—something “R Davis” is hoping we will miss.

and with good reason, in Britain anyway.
Pointing out that its the instructions given to “these young people” in the Koran, Hadiths and Suras, that enables them to commit such heinous crimes, will not only get you branded an Islamophobe, it will get you prison time for inciting religious and racial hatred.
You lose your job, become virtually unemployable as a ” criminal” and your family ends up living on benefits.

This guy is the worst thing to come along since Almadinejad. But at least Almadinejad did not try to conceal his true intention. Erdogan is a true Islamist, who the US should never ever trust. The Turks should be ashamed of themselves for electing him and allowing him to stay in office.

Deviating from the truth is exactly the problem, Mr. Erdogan. You do not know the truth and right now you are not interested in finding the truth. If you ever do want to find the truth, Mr. Erdogan, you will have to look for it outside of yourself and in places with which you are not now familiar. The truth exists, Mr. Erdogan. It has always been there and will always be there. If you do not have the ability to comprehend it or even to discuss its very existence, the fault lies within you and you must be the one to change that. Now you are looking for the truth through submission to another’s way of thinking but such submission is not the way to the truth. The truth is to be found through freedom, Mr. Erdogan … a freedom of thought and expression that is the birthright of every human being.
Theb Nyip says
Erdogan is correct that we should be looking at the causes of these terrorist organisations but I don’t think the conclusions we’ll come to are the same as his.
Australia’s National Security site at http://www.nationalsecurity.gov.au/Listedterroristorganisations/Pages/default.aspx lists 19 organisations regarded as terrorist by the Australian Government. And yes, the PKK is on there, but the other 18 are all jihadist (from the Philippines to Nigeria to Pakistan to the middle east).
I don’t condone terrorism by any organisation but the ledger is clearly weighted so far in one specific direction as to make clear to even the most stupid politician in the world exactly what the prime driver of terrorism is in the world today.
It is time everyone in non-Islamic majority countries recognises we are now in a pre-cursor period to what is likely to develop into WW3. We are seeing events now, and will see more in the future, that will eerily mirror events in the lead up to WW2. Robert and others are like Churchill in that pre-WW period, calling for action and preparation but being ignored and dismissed as war/hate-mongers by the ostriches who refuse to face the reality of the growing threat.
Alliances are already shifting, with old enemies becoming friends and old friends becoming enemies. I see Turkey as being in a similar position to Italy during the pre-WW2 period. Italy had been an ally of the US, UK, France and Russia during WW1 but once the Fascists took over it moved further away from allied interests and ended up being a very active partner of Nazi Germany in WW2. In a similar way, Turkey was an ally of the West, but since the rise of the Islamists under Erdogan it has been shifting to a philosophical partner of many of the West’s enemies and is no longer acting in NATO’s interests. It is time the West recognises this and expels Turkey from Nato, demands the Turks vacate Cyprus and supports the Kurds getting their own state.
Gary Fouse says
I used to be a big supporter of Turkey after visiting that country twice in the 1980s. No more. Erdogan is trying to take them back to pre-Ataturk days. In my view, Turkey should not be admitted to the EU (as if that’s a good thing) and should be kicked out of NATO.

Erdogan’s conscience is bothering him, a little bit.
The PKK territory bordering Turkey is under attack from ISIS and the world is eyeing Turkish inaction – for its own strategic gain.
Then it must be understood – that his requests for no-fly zones over Syria and the removal of Assad – are aimed at bolstering Turkish regional interests as well.
::
It’s a nonsensical statement. A deflection. He doesn’t honestly want to discuss the causes of Islamic terror.
Jack Holan says
Erdogan is a piece of work slipping in the PKK as terrorist group to some how justify inaction to help the Kurds from being slaughtered in Syria by the IS. When it comes to active or inactive means of genocide, Turks are good; starvation and the elements for the Armenians and the refusal to intercede and defend the Kurds against the IS. But when it comes to hooliganism, Erdogan and his so called humanitarian (front for a terror group) IHH can launch a ship to violate the Israeli blockade; and attack soldiers with crowbars, knives and other instruments of death that’s ok AND in that situation too he flipped it became the victim and turned the Israelis into the aggressors with Jack in the Box Obama giving his speed dial phone to Netanyahu telling him to apologize. Erdogan is trying to bring Turkey closer to an Islamic Country. They have no value as a NATO country. Strategically Turkey is positioned geographically in an important place but it is meaningless if they do not follow the Western position. In fact they will not let us use their bases as they should under NATO agreements. We should kick them out of NATO since they have no value. We should monitor them to see if they tilt further into the religious Islamic orb. Turkey is no longer a true friend of the West it merely gives lip service to get what it can and returns as little as it can get away with so that they will stay friendly with the more radical States in the region.

Yeah—like we want to listen to Erdogan, who has been Islamizing Turkey, who backed the Jihad flotilla to Gaza, has funded ISIS, and had his tank sit at the border as ISIS overran a Syrian town just days ago.
This is just more Taqiyya from someone whose masquerading as an ally of the West becomes more patently absurd by the day.
Ralph says
As you will see below, Muhammad posed as an apostle of God. Yet his life is filled with lustfulness (12 marriages and sex with a child, slaves and concubines), rapes, warfare, conquests, and unmerciful butcheries. The infinitely good, just and all holy God simply cannot tolerate anything in the least unjust or sinful. What Muhammad produced in the Qur’an is simply a book of gibberish consisting of later evil verses abrogating (superseding) earlier peaceful verses. These verses in Arabic poetically “tickle” the ears of Arab listeners. Islam is a caustic blend of paganism and twisted Bible stories. Muhammad, its lone “prophet”, who made no prophecies, conceived his religion to satiate his lust for power, sex, and money. He was a terrorist. And if you think these conclusions are shocking, wait until you see the evidence mostly from Islamic historians below. 70% of what is here is from Muslim and ex-Muslim historians – back to the 8th century and the Qur’an itself.

The radical muslims will pick any excuse to commit acts of terrorism.
The most recent one is their supposed claim to Palestine. I’ve posted the following questioaire in several places but so far nobody has answered any of the questions.
An interesting questionnaire for Palestinian Advocates By Yashiko Sagamori
If you are so sure that Palestine, the country, goes back through most of recorded history, I expect you to be able to answer a few basic questions about that country of Palestine:
1. When was it founded and by whom?
2. What were its borders?
3. What was its capital?
4. What were its major cities?
5. What constituted the basis of its economy?
6. What was its form of government?
7. Can you name at least one Palestinian leader before Arafat?
8. Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation?
9. What was the language of the country of Palestine?
10. What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine?
11. What was the name of its currency?
12. Choose any date in history and tell what the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, Japanese yen, or Chinese yuan on that date.
13. Since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur?
14. And here is the least sarcastic question of all: If the people you mistakenly call “Palestinians” are anything but generic Arabs collected from all over — or thrown out of — the Arab world, if they really have a genuine ethnic identity that gives them right for self-determination, why did they never try to become independent until Arabs suffered their devastating defeat in the Six Day War?
I hope you avoid the temptation to trace the modern day “Palestinians” to the Biblical Philistines: substituting etymology for history won’t work here.
The truth should be obvious to everyone who wants to know it. Arab countries have never abandoned the dream of destroying Israel; they still cherish it today. Having time and again failed to achieve their evil goal with military means, they decided to fight Israel by proxy. For that purpose, they created a terrorist organization, cynically called it “the Palestinian people” and installed it in Gaza , Judea, and Samaria . How else can you explain the refusal by Jordan and Egypt to unconditionally accept back the “West Bank” and Gaza, respectively?
The fact is, Arabs populating Gaza, Judea, and Samaria have much less claim to nationhood than that Indian tribe that successfully emerged in Connecticut with the purpose of starting a tax-exempt casino: at least that tribe had a constructive goal that motivated them. The so-called “Palestinians” have only one motivation: the destruction of Israel. And in my book that is not sufficient to consider them a nation” — or anything else except what they really are: a terrorist organization that will one day be dismantled.
In fact, there is only one way to achieve peace in the Middle East. Arab countries must acknowledge and accept their defeat in their war against Israel and, as the losing side should, pay Israel reparations for the more than 50 years of devastation they have visited on it. The most appropriate form of such reparations would be the removal of their terrorist organization from the land of Israel and accepting Israel‘s ancient sovereignty over Gaza, Judea, and Samaria.
That will mark the end of the Palestinian people. What are you saying again was its beginning?
