The vaunted “moderate” Webb, a darling of the Boston media, has dismissed secularism as a “radical lunatic ideology,” which means the dismissal of the idea that the government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed, and the embracing of the idea that the law of Allah constitutes the only legitimate constitution and government. He has also appeared at events hosted by Hamas-linked CAIR, a group that Webb openly lauds.
“Former Imam Of Oklahoma Beheader’s Mosque Apologizes To ISIS Day After Beheading,” by Patrick Howley, Daily Caller, September 29, 2014:
The former imam of the Oklahoma City mosque attended by beheading suspect Alton Nolen apologized this week to ISIS for previously criticizing the group.
Suhaib Webb is currently the imam of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center, which is part of the same entity under the same ownership as the Islamic Society of Boston, where Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev worshipped. Webb spoke alongside the late al-Qaida senior operative Anwar al-Awlaki at a Sept. 9, 2001 fundraiser for an Islamic radical who killed two police officers, according to FBI surveillance documents.
Webb previously served as imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, where Nolen reportedly worshipped. It is not known whether Webb and Nolen ever met. Webb recently returned to the Oklahoma City mosque to deliver two sermons in October 2013, records reveal. Webb previously gave sermons there in November 2011, October 2010 and October 2008.
The day after Nolen beheaded a co-worker, and the same day that Webb was publicly linked to Nolen’s mosque, Webb apologized to ISIS in an online column he wrote for the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center entitled “Shame on Me: A Commitment to Discourse Instead of Demonization.”
“I woke up the other day and decided to skim through my body of work over the last few years,” Webb wrote. “Boy was I surprised at some of my posts and talks — the tone and the demonization of others — I compared ISIS to Ebola. While I don’t agree with ISIS, al-Qāida, certain progressives and others, I’ve decided to apologize to anyone that I have spoken ill towards or demonized.”
“I ask Allah to forgive me and to guide me to observe better character in the future,” Webb continued. “I asked myself, ‘Suhaib did you forget the 49th chapter of the Qur’an, Surah al-Hujurāt?’ Moving forward, I promise myself to address ideas instead of people, to be critical of thoughts instead of personalities and commit to ethics as best I can. That will create a better climate to unpack and examine current trends in our community, but ensure that I recognize other’s humanity and worth.”…

Yeah, it was so awesome when the Holy Prophet Mo-hammed said there is no compulsion in religion. Trouble is, that lasted only a few years until the War of Compulsion began. That’s the war we’re fighting now, well, half-fighting, pretend fighting, whatever, but whether we like it or not we are engaged in the latest iteration of the War of Compulsion.
john spielman says
half fighting half pretending! that’s a good one. the only problem is ISIS and islam is the half of the world that’s fighting , and we’re in the other the half that is pretending that there is no war (against islam)

Muslims are to avoid criticizing other Muslims, even if the information is accurate and 100% true! Islam causes such ‘reporting’ on another Muslim as ‘slander’. They may though ‘report’ on a kafir-non-Muslim!
This is no more than the code of the mob! Muslims protect other Muslims from having their flaws and CRIMES exposed! That is why Muslims seldom if ever criticize jihadists or Islamic terrorists!
“I asked the Messenger of God : Who is the best Muslim? The Messenger of God replied, “He is the one from whom Muslims are safe from the evil of his tongue and hands.” (Sahih Muslim)

Webb has declared war on the American republic by calling secularism a “radical lunatic ideology”.
The US constitution assumes secularism and the First Amendment spells that out.
Webb is a self-declared enemy of the constitution. Law enforcement agencies should watch him closely and find his associates before they act out. Webb is a friend of ISIS.

So you are seriously proposing that every person of a Christian background who converts to Islam ought to be *KILLED*???
I don’t agree with you. Because not a few westerners who have foolishly converted to Islam, have later on converted straight back out of it: for example, two people who post here, Saleem Smith and Istanbul Chick. Both were raised in at least nominally Christian families.
They converted to Islam; then they found out a bit more about it, became horrified, and ditched it. You, however, presumably, if you were in charge of things (which, thankfully, you are NOT) would have had both of them executed before they even had time to wake up and repent??
Further question: are you implying that you would like to see the execution of *any* person, raised Christian/ confessing Christianity, who leaves the faith? If so, you are simply **off your rocker**. Way out of line.

The Bible says that “vengeance is mine says the LORD, I will repay” which means we must NOT take revenge on others including muslims. Otherwise we would be no better than them! So what he looks white? Does a pale/ruddy skin guarantee that someone is good and decent?
I hold that Malcolm X was a mountebank, Franz Fanon a destructive idiot, and much (NOT all) of the civil rights movement misguided. I freely admit that I think Obama means One Big-@$$ Mistake, America. I certainly don’t think that a history of oppression gives blacks or anyone the right to act like animals to perceived “oppressors”. However, MLK Jr. nailed it when he said we should judge people on the content of their character rather than the color of their skins.

“I ask Allah to forgive me and to guide me to observe better character in the future,”
That’s ‘inner spiritual struggle jihad’, and the reason it does not work. Allah forgives no one, and only guides by directions in Quran which opposes better character, except as better adherence to the letter of the law. Blind obedience is not better character. Only free thought devoid of the chains of Allah can do that. But that leads to apostasy so it is discouraged.

And this thug was warmly embraced at an interfaith meeting by some of Boston’s most popular religious leaders including Ronnie Friedman of Temple Israel. Perhaps Imam Webb is referring to sura 49:7 – “And know that among you is the Messenger of Allah . If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would be in difficulty, but Allah has endeared to you the faith and has made it pleasing in your hearts and has made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedience. Those are the [rightly] guided.” Webb’s scorn of constitutional democracy must endear him to the “rightly guided.”

which means the dismissal of the idea that the government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed
To some extent, I agree with him. The right to govern is based upon seeking the common good. The common good can only be discerned in light of Truth, which ultimately means in light of God. His mistake is thinking that Islam is the true religion. Thus, following an errant path, he arrives at an erroneous conclusion. Yes, government derives its just powers from the authority granted by God, not by consent of the governed. But Islam is not the authority of God.
Lee Hicks says
Further documentation of the fictional nature of supposed “moderate” Islam. There is no such reality. Muslims are required by Allah through the three books of Islam to pursue Jihad, and it is not simply an optional suggestion. Islam does equal Jihad.
So, a Muslim who claims peaceful intentions is simply engaging in Taqiya (deception), and is either engaged in cultural or political Jihad, or in both. Allah is called by Islamists, “the greatest of deceivers”, so is it surprising that such deception is inherent in Islam itself? Not in the least.
At times, as with this Imam, the mask is lowered and the corrupt deceptive beliefs and practices are put on display. There are no moderate or extremist Muslims, just Muslims who are pursuing Jihad (holy warfare) in different ways. Don’t be deceived by the lies of those who espouse supposed peaceful intentions.
TrueNorth says
This Imam seeks forgiveness for condemning people instead of ideas. How quaint. As a consequence, he writes, “I promise myself to address ideas instead of people, to be critical of thoughts instead of personalities and commit to ethics as best I can.” To this point I say he is way off target. There is no sense in being critical of ideas until they are put into action. Ideas are no more than fantasy or idle day-dreaming until the thinker applies them to action. Once the thinking person energizes his or her ideas to action it is then, and only then, that the actions, not the people or the ideas, can be judged. In this specific case, there is no question or doubt that ISIS has acted and is acting on their evil ideas by killing many innocent people, especially by public decapitation. This is terrorism in its boldest form. There is nothing wrong with condemning evil acts. As a matter of fact, we should condemn such action vigorously. I agree with the Imam that it is wrong to condemn the person; however, in the present context it is not only right but compulsory for right thinking and acting people to condemn the evil acts of ISIS. It seems to me that this Imam in his earlier writings was on the right track by condemning the actions of ISIS; however, he then turtled-in when he realized that he could become a target of ISIS evil. In sum, the actions of ISIS are evil. Evil acts should be condemned by people who seek truth and peace. If this Imam refuses to condemn the actions of ISIS then he should be considered another evil co-conspirator. If you’re not for us you are against us.
voegelinian says
Given what we know (or what we should know by now) — and if we have graduated far enough on the LCPOI (the Learning Curve of the Problem of Islam) to reject the Moderate Muslim Meme altogether — we can save Muslims from the essential normative baseline mainstream extremism of their Islam only through torturous speculations and forgiving hypotheses that try to figure out ways to imagine how it is that the decent moms and pops which our asymptotic conscience nags us must exist among Muslims in great numbers. And so we resist the dreaded A word out of our ethical anxiety and ethical narcissism.
“They can’t all be extremist; some of them/many of them/most of them —
[these vague groupings tend to smush together in the incoherent emotions of the asymptotic]
“– can’t ALL be dangerous, evil and strangely supportive of human rights injustices…! I mean, they can’t ALL be that way…!”
And so, by the magic of emotion, they aren’t. And slowly but surely, a False Problem of Islam is inculcated in the mind, that does not accurately comport with the actual nature and dimensions of the problem. And when Hesperado comes along and says we have to deport them all, we think he’s wrong (or nuts), because, well, the problem can’t be as bad as he implies it is, you see.

Islam is inherently a form of SEDITION – because it never agreed with the Christian notion of separating secular (road-paving, taxation) & religious realms (render unto Caesar) & went with “Render The World Unto Muhammad!”
So it doesn’t believe in national sovereignty, preferring global theocracy (‘ummah’) ruled by the Caliphate government!
Islam is ONLY a crime syndicate, & the only “religious” part in it’s where they say: “God told us to commit these crimes!
Muslims are never national citizens; they regard all national sovereignties as temporary, man-made false idols which must all be eventually destroyed and replaced with the one-world global muslim Ummah, to be ruled by their theocratic caliphate, and their duty is to wage offensive war to extort, enslave, and murder all the non-muslims. Terrorism is an inherent, not an incidental, component of islam.
NO MUSLIMS ARE “PATRIOTS” OR NATIONALISTS OF ANY KIND!
No self-determined muslim believes in any sovereign national governments nor countries at all, ever!
Sharia is allegedly the perfect law of allah, based directly on the Qur’an!
So it always applies to all humans everywhere!
SO WHO NEEDS ANY – EVEN “ELECTED” – MAN-MADE GOVERNMENTS TO CREATE LAWS WHICH DIFFER FROM SHARIA?!
Recall the Ayatollah Khomeini’s words during his 1980 speech in Qom, the Shi’ite spiritual hub:
“We do not worship Iran, we worship Allah. For patriotism is another name for paganism. I say let this land burn. I say let this land [Iran] go up in smoke, provided Islam emerges triumphant in the rest of the world.”
Islam’s Sharia is either compatable with our Western, morality-based law (in which case it is superfluous) or it is not (in which case it is illegal).
There is only one universally accepted version of sharia crime (‘law’) and that is the original, Haneefite version as recorded in The Hedaya and used by the Ottoman Empire to rule all of islam for centuries; all moslems in all their countries are very aware of its simple might-makes-right and us-versus-them tenets and strictures.
There is really only one Qur’an, one islam, and one sharia.
And islam is inherently against ALL sovereign national countries (which it regards as only temporary man-made false idols, to be eventually destroyed and replaced by the global muslim Ummah, ruled by their theocratic Caliphate government) because since the Qur’an and subsequent sharia elaborations embody “god’s” perfect laws which are to apply to all mankind everywhere, why would anyone ever need any merely human legislators (even ‘democratically elected’ ones)?!
So, since islam is a subversive anti-national and anti-legal entity, why on earth are any of its “muslim” members ever afforded any legal standing to promote their criminal treasonous sedition, before any of our courts of law?!
Allowing foreign (sharia “law”) courts to exist in your country is to enable those foreign governments to govern in your country; it’s obviously TREASON.
Dave J says
We let people who despise us and our form of government into our country where they work to undermine and eliminate it and us.

Specifically, how is a mosque a threat to the community within which it is built?
Every single mosque in the world, by definition, is modeled on the mosque of Muhammad in Medina in accordance with the Sunnah. The Sunnah interprets the Qur’an by reporting exhaustively on everything that Muhammad said, did, or consented to. Therefore, his Medina mosque, the first mosque, was a place where he gave judgments, where he decided who would be executed, where he instituted policy—domestic and military— where Jihad war strategies were designed. Consequently, it was a storage place for arms, a military training base, and was where troops were blessed and dispatched. Literally they were sent to conquer – first the whole of Arabia, and then the rest of the known world. Therefore if the present-day mosque is modeled as per the Sunnah of Muhammad then there should be very serious concern. As is well-known, Muslims are required to follow the example (Sunnah) of Muhammad—and according to Sura 33:36 it is not an option or a matter of opinion: “It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allâh and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error.” This explains and establishes beyond doubt why arms have been found in mosques in various countries, and in different capital cities.
