Your tax dollars at work. The foolish and wrongheaded venture of arming “vetted moderates” against the Islamic State is inevitably going to result in this, either because of those “moderates”‘ ineptitude or their complicity.
“Islamic State terrorists using U.S. tents in jihad training camp,” by Cheryl K. Chumley, The Washington Times, October 14, 2014:
A new video showing how Islamic State members train their recruits to be terrorists reveals an interesting aside — the tents in the background at the jihadist camps are clearly marked with “US.”
The Islamic State captured a training camp in the western portion of Iraq on Monday, the latest notch in the group’s belt of wresting control of the Anbar province. And in a propaganda video named “The Blood of Jihad” to show how recruits are trained, the camera pans on what’s clearly labeled as equipment belonging to the United States, The Blaze reported.
VICE News explains: “The six-minute-long video comes as the U.S.-led coalition steps up airstrikes against Islamic State militant bases, including training camps, in Iraq and Syria. it is the latest in a series of multimedia releases from the group, and clearly touts its possession of U.S. equipment and weapons. … [T]he video features recruits clad in white, lined up in a dusty field in Ninewa province, in front of tents clearly marked ‘US.’ The trainers and recruits each carry weapons, which appear to be either AK-47s, RPGs or PK machine guns.
The camp is near the town of Hit — a community that was taken by the terrorists earlier this month — and was overrun by the Islamic state in early morning clashes with Iraqi soldiers. Following fierce fighting, the soldiers were forced to flee the camp and withdraw from the immediate area, The Associated Press reported….

DAMN IT! is the United States ever going to learn that democratization does not work, never has never will. It didn’t work in Vietnam, didn’t work in Somalia, didn’t work in Iran, isn’t working in Afghanistan. Now we have yet another attempt of it in Syria. God what is it going to take for us to learn. We are laying the ground work for an atomic war in the Middle East. and Central Asia. I might be Iran, and Israel, or India, and Pakistan. Imagine if Jihadist’s gain control of Pakistan. Pakistan has fission weapons that are deliverable by bomber, or missile. We have contingency plans to take them out with air strikes but the Sultan of Stupid will take 6 months to make a decision to destroy them; we are totally screwed.
The Republicans in Colorado have coined a campaign phrase that is going to boot Senator Udall, (D) Colorado out of office. “Obama has made the world a cold, dark, and dangerous place.”

It was known that the armed forces were gonna leave most everything behind, and not just what was to be supplied to our “allies” in the Iraqi Army and the national police. A lot more.
This has been a practice since the Pentagon discovered that it’s cheaper just to leave it, so why bring it home, why repatriate all those goods? Well, the geniuses didn’t figure that there is one good reason to bring all the stuff back: your enemies will use it, and even make dough selling he former U.S. property they don’t want for their own operations.
But not a peep on that subject in the press in 2011, not even from our vaunted Pentagon brass, the guys with the stripes and the medal rows.

I remember when the US gave weapons to the Mujahideen in the 1980s. Then following 911, I remember a 60 Minutes show where one of the CIA agents was saying how all the Afghans he was arming were saying that the US was imperialist and would be next. Ok… I would have thought that the US would have learned that lesson a hundred times over.
Forward some thirty years later. Syria is fighting a civil war and the US can’t wait to give aid to whoever. You’d think someone at one of these meetings would say “Umm… excuse me. We did this in Afghanistan during the 1980s. How do we know this won’t be used against us?”
Why does the US think the civil war in Syria that it is worth risking that aid wouldn’t be used against America or allies? At least someone could make some argument that helping the fall of the Soviet Union was worth 911… good luck, but you’d have some points. But what good is the fall of Syria? Does it help Turkey, Egypt, Israel, etc. No. Does it help Iraq… who America and allied just spend thousands of lives trying to help? No. The Kurds? Iran? Saudi Arabia? Anyone?
Further, it was pretty clear who the heck these guys were/are? You have Kurds, Israelis, and CNN pretty much telling you who they are. You have Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, etc. quickly showing who is ready to take over. You’ve got fleeing Christians in Lebanon and Iraq telling you.
I’ll forgive the CIA folks from the 1980s not knowing supporting the Mujahideen would lead to 911. However… what excuse do the CIA and the White House have this time?

“..what excuse do the CIA and the White House have this time?”
They don’t need excuses, they have a goal to achieve: the destruction of the U.S.
The enemy *is* in the W.H.
