As I have noted many times, “Islamophobia” is a charge used to intimidate people into thinking there is something wrong with opposing jihad terror and Islamic supremacism. Here we have a textbook case of how true that is. The motion failed because some thought it would promote “interventionism” — as if it would suffice to condemn the Islamic State but recommend that nothing be done about it. This is the suicidal idiocy that is the dominant mainstream in the public discourse in both the UK and the US, and will lead — unless its stranglehold is broken — to the death of both societies.
“NUS motion to condemn Isis fails amidst claims of islamophobia,” by Jamie Merrill, the Independent, October 15, 2014 (thanks to Twostellas):
The National Union of Students has rejected a call to condemn militant group Isis on the grounds that the motion was “islamophobic”, in a move which has promoted campaigners to accuse the body of being in the “stranglehold” of divisive “identity politics”.
The political split in the student body over the conflict in the Middle East erupted after a motion was put forward last month to the NUS National Executive Council, asking students to express “solidarity” with the Kurds in Iraq and Syria who are engaged in a bloody struggle against ISIS militants.
The motion, proposed by Daniel Cooper and Clifford Fleming with international students officer Shreya Paudel, called on British students “to condemn the IS and support Kurdish forces fighting against it, while expressing no confidence or trust in the US military intervention.”
However the call, which also called for unity among Muslims and has already been passed by the Scottish NUS, was rejected by a members led by black students’ officer Malia Bouattia, according the student website The Tab.
Ms Bouattia is reported to have spoken against the motion. She is reported to have said: “We recognise that condemnation of Isis appears to have become a justification for war and blatant islamophobia. This rhetoric exacerbates the issue at hand and in essence is a further attack on those we aim to defend.”
Ms Bouatti’s opposition to the motion was supported by fellow NEC member Aaron Kiely. On his blog he wrote: “The Stop the War Coalition and CND are being falsely accused of backing Isis. Now student activists are similarly being attacked. The NUS black students’ officer and others who are standing up against this new war should be supported and the maligning of the anti-war movement opposed.”
However Mr Cooper, one of the motion’s sponsors, hit out at the student body’s divisions. On his blog he wrote: “The motion then fell as large numbers of NEC members either abstained or voted against (including the bulk of the political left on NEC). I think this says a lot about the current state of the student movement.” He added: “There is a stranglehold of ‘identity politics’ on the student movement… essentially the idea is widespread that if a liberation officer opposes something, it must be bad.”
However in a sign that even the proponents of the motion are wavering on the issue, Mr Fleming, the national co-chair of the Young Green Party and an NEC member, told The Independent that the bill, which he co-proposed, failed to pass as it could encourage intervention.
He said: “It was voted down due to a general feeling that the motion currently could lead to pro-interventionism – which nobody wanted.”
Despite proposing the motion with Mr Cooper, he said: “I find it completely inappropriate how it was claimed that identity politics has a stranglehold on the NEC. Of course identity politics has a big voice on the NUS NEC; it is for those who self-define and lead campaigns to voice who they represent.”

What Muhammad produced in the Qur’an is simply a book of gibberish consisting of later evil verses abrogating (superseding) earlier peaceful verses. These verses in Arabic poetically “tickle” the ears of Arab listeners. Islam is a caustic blend of paganism and twisted Bible stories. Muhammad, its lone “prophet”, who made no prophecies, conceived his religion to satiate his lust for power, sex, and money. He was a terrorist.
Jayell says
What really amuses me about the Qu’ran is the excuse for the contradictions. Apparently, Mohammed would receive all these messages from Allah, which would (according to circumstances) later be contradicted in substance (by Allah) because ‘Allah had found a better way’ (I quote an expert). Really strange that this great omnipotent, omniscient eternal Being found himself simultaneously on the same learning curve as his mere-mortal ‘prophet’ on matters which should have been to him no more a challenge than – say – simple arithmetical division would be to the likes of Stephen Hawking, and which should have therefore been understood by this Great Being multi-millennia before Mohammed (or the human race?) even came into existence. So what does this say about Allah? He’s your great cosmic thicko? Or -perhaps more to the point – he was at best no more than a projection of Mohammed’s deranged despotic imagination or even (more likely) a deliberate con trick pulled by Mohammed to fool the gullible idiots he wanted to dominate? Someone else on this site has noted how Mohammed clearly plagiarised Jewish and Christian scriptures to formulate and legitimise his ‘religion’ yet somehow managed to omit key teachings by the earlier ‘prophets’ (e.g., Jesus) where they apparently did not suit his purpose. For example, where are the Beatitudes and the parable of the Good Samaritan in the Qu’ran? Not in keeping with Islam, no doubt?

Shakespeare stole almost story he wrote, from Holingshead and others. You have to address the Qur’an for what it says, not because it develops Biblical and other ideas and stories. I dislike the Qur’an for much (though not all) it preaches, but I read it in Arabic and appreciate the poetry, just as I appreciate Shakespeare. You must find a new way to tackle it.

Denis MacEoin yet again deigns to lower himself to comment at Jihad Watch, with yet another sneering comment full of self-conceit, and the erroneous belief that what he has to say will ‘educate’ us naff ‘bigots and racists’, as he did on the thread below.
http://www.jihadwatch.org/2014/09/uk-drunken-lout-curses-allah-in-kebab-shop-muslim-knocks-him-out/comment-page-1#comment-1123738
If one types his name in the JW search engine, one will find quite a few posts and articles, where MacEoin occasionally leans down from his superior cloud to educate us boors.
It was noticeable that he did not attempt to answer any of the replies commenters made to his silly post on the drunken lout in the kebab shop thread ( because he is so superior to the rest of us 🙂 ), and I doubt he will do anyone the courtesy of a reply, on this thread, either.
However, to address the rubbish he posted to Ralph:
”Shakespeare stole almost story he wrote, from Holingshead and others.”
Shakespeare wrote plays, and poetry, for people’s **entertainment**. He was not setting himself up as a ‘prophet’, or purporting to teach a *religion*.
The Koran is *supposed*, according to mohammedans, to be the genuine, unalterable word of ‘allah’, and a handbook for how mohammedans are to behave. Hardly the same as the Taming of the Shrew, or ”let me compare thee to a summer’s day”.
”You have to address the Qur’an for what it says, not because it develops Biblical and other ideas and stories.”
Any good that is in the koran, comes precisely from mohammed’s plaigarism of the Bible. And it doesn’t ‘develop’ Biblical stories; it lifts them, and then twists the them. And what it says is violence, hatred, and murder, along with ridiculous stupidities like the sun sets in a muddy pool. (Yes, *very* poetic)
” I dislike the Qur’an for much (though not all) it preaches, but I read it in Arabic and appreciate the poetry, just as I appreciate Shakespeare”
This is like saying a manual for paedophiles can be appreciated, because it is written in a ‘poetic’ way. How utterly stupid ! So, the **content** of a piece of writing doesn’t matter, only that it is **poetic**. No wonder academia is in such dire straits, if this is the quality of thought it produces.
” You must find a new way to tackle it.”
What pompous rubbish ! The only way to ‘tackle’ the koran, is to read it, and realise it is a manual of hatred, violence, and the sacralised desires of mohammed, who made the whole thing up in the first place.
You’re singularly unable to argue logically, MacEoin, and I won’t hold my breath waiting for you to reply to what I’ve said.

Excellent post! Mirren10. You nailed it – the truth, that is.
Denis MacEoin: “You must find a new way to tackle it.”
I have to say it – You truly do sound like a snob. But an ignorant one at that:
Koran (chapter and verse given for proof)
047.004 – Beheadings
033.052 – Gang Rape of female ‘infidels’
005.033 – Crucifixions
008.067 – Treason
033.061 – Genocide “without mercy”
005.041 – Racism….
005.041 O Messenger! let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief: whether it be among those who say “We believe” with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews,- men who will listen to any lie [[This is Racism – It is hate speech]]
(and you can save the same old tired denials Denis MacEoin; the koran – many versions in english translation – some of the the best dating back to the late 1800s – are online for all to see – and judge – for themselves).
And then there is this: The tree (koran) is known by its fruit (devout followers). Muslims all around the world – regularly prove this statement is true.
If you’re going to be a snob – at least get your facts straight first.

I dare say the lessest play of Shakespeare (say, As You Like It, or Measure for Measure, or The Life of Timon of Athens) — any one of them taken alone, indeed any single act or scene from among them, even any solitary line — is worth infinitely more than the entire Koran. No matter how worth is measured — by standards literary, aesthetic, philosophical, moral, cultural, mythopoetic, spiritual — comparing the two is like contrasting diamonds with the desiccated ant-ridden dung of long-dead camels.

These leftist groups like to tell themselves that they really stand for liberal values, like free speech, women’s rights, etc. But in reality, they’re simply hate groups, and what they hate is the West. Notice what they all unequivocally agree on: that US troops fighting ISIS is unacceptable. That’s easy for them to hate. But when a non-Western group like ISIS commits mass rapes, genocidal murders, horrible tortures and unmitigated, savage violence? “Well, let’s not be too hasty to judge them. We have to take a nuanced position—and after all, they’re legitimately opposed to the traditional West, and we do agree with them on that point.”
voegelinian says
That’s what distinguishes the Leftist from most PC MCs: the former are not really relativists nor equal-opportunity critics — they are absolutist West-haters. The latter are less coherent, more confused, starrier-eyed idealists whose hearts and minds are filled with incoherent mush that attempts to have its cake (or vaguely West-critical sentiments and positions) and eat it too (a vaguely mushy belief in “equality” and “diversity”).
Since PC MCs are by far far more numerous and influential (if often only by demographic & cultural default) than the radical Leftists of the West, they are perforce the bigger problem. But, because the nature of the problem they present is vaguer and less reasonably demonizable, the solution is more difficult.

Yet when it could no longer be denied who was the real enemy they did fight. Will it happen again? OT: Reza Aslan does it again. In another “typo,” he suggests some nineteenth-century thinkers “gave birth to the enlightenment.” He mentions four of them: Schopenhauer, Feuerbach, Marx, and Freud.
Note that the Enlightenment period is generally understood to have begun in the about the mid-seventeenth century
How did these thinkers “give birth” to something that started well over a century before the earliest of them, Schopenhauer, was even born? Through time travel? By the time Schopenhauer (born in 1788) was old enough to publish anything, the Enlightenment period was over, or pretty much so.
No doubt, these four were influenced by the Enlightenment and in turn influenced the development of the modern world and modern thought. But “gave birth” to the Enlightenment? No.
Here’s the fuller quote, in the context of criticizing Sam Harris and other “new” atheists:
Aslan: “…My greatest intellectual heroes are all atheists, whether I’m talking about [Arthur] Schopenhauer, or [Sigmund] Freud, or Marx, or [Ludwig] Feuerbach. These were the people who gave birth to the modern world. They were the people who gave birth to the enlightenment. But they were experts in religion. They understood religion and then criticized it from a place of expertise, and there is lots to criticize about religion as you have rightly said.
But what is happening now is that a guy sort of sitting in his room watching television with a blog has now become a self-described expert on religion and espouses the most basic, uninformed, and unsophisticated views about religion from a position of, you know, intellectualism…”

thanks for the quote. in my opinion it is very symptomatic that Aslan does not mention Nietzsche -another great intellectual hero and atheist. Marx, Nietzsche and Freud are considered to be masters of the School(philosophy) of suspicion(towards the creed of Descartes(cogito ergo sum), precursors of postmodern thought).
Nietzsche wrote about master -morality and slave-morality which is born out of the ressentiment of slaves. (he meant traditional Jews and Christian). for me the ressentiment is one of the main facet of islam(koran). not to mention that Muslims call themselves slaves of allah.
Nietzsche asked anti-semitic Christian great question: ““You who hate the Jews so, why did you adopt their religion?”
anyway as Nietzsche say:”There are no facts, only interpretations.” Regards.

Here’s another thing. In the face of the sheep like unthinking shown by our students and most of the population in general, there is only one organisation in Britain of any clout regarding Islamisation and jihad, the EDL. It pains me that the two counter jihad groups I admire most are not on speaking terms. Robinson left a year ago and the EDL is all the better for it in my opinion. Unfortunately various real far right groups thought they had found a home but the current leadership have been making strenuous, and I believe, successful efforts to keep them out and also to clean up their loutish image (no drinking before demos, proper marshalling etc). I wish Robert Spencer would look at them again. I think he might be surprised at what he found.

The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure.”

Also, people talk about “multicultralism” being awful – it’s not. There is ONE dangerous and problematic culture and that’s ISLAM. It’s unfair to bundle together all other cultures with it as being bad.

Isis trades in slaves now muslims have also kidnapped Europeans mainly woman for the sex slave market in the middle east for centuries.
Irish slaves in America (indentured servants) were sold by the British were valued less than the blacks, easier to replace. They were usually work to death before their time was up. So I really can’t understand black people supporting or converting to islam.

I would describe myself as a enlightened person. I’m you usual middle class, educated, professional 40 something Briton. I am no socialist but I have a keen sense of right and wrong and social justice. Nor am I a reactionary conservative. I grew up in the Church of Scotland/Anglican tradition we have in the UK I would describe myself as christian but I am not a regular church goer and am far from an evangelist. I believe in western democracy, free speech, emancipation and the freedoms that common people, all over the world but especially in the West have fought hard for over the last 1000 years. I hate tyranny, injustice, bigotry, racism and ignorance.
I am also deeply concerned at the rise of Jihad and the threat it poses to our way of life. The very democracy and freedoms we have fought so hard to build are being used by these people to attack our society, to create division and to use our tolerance against us. These people like Abu Baraa, are so utterly absurd and at any other time would be written off as swivel eyed lunatics if their neo-facism wasn’t so dangerous. His ignorance and blinkered beliefs are….well, beyond belief.
One thing is increasingly clear and that is that these people do not share our values. To them, Jihad is religious war. Meanwhile, the western reaction on the whole has been to navel gaze, to blame ourselves ‘how could we have done this to these people?’, ‘why do they hate us?’. In our conceited comfort since 1990 (the end of the Cold War) we have fallen into the trap of extending to everyone in the world, our liberties and our friendship. It is the arrogance of superiority a bit like a late 19th century aristocratic British liberal politician indulging a Russian revolutionary.
Our political leaders wring their hands – so pre programmed is the professional Westminster politician, that the reaction to ANY questioning of our tolerance is condemned as racist and as facist. We have become so politically correct that we didn’t even investigate the terrible child abuse carried out by British Pakistani men against young girls because we thought it might be racist.
When good men do nothing evil triumphs. It’s time to set aside our political differences and understand that we are at war. Those of us who value our society, our values, and our freedoms are at war with those who wish to turn our world into a caliphate of oppression. We didn’t declare this war, we didn’t want this war but just because this might be the case does not mean that we will not be caught up in it. Neville Chamberlain made the mistake of assuming that Hitler’s values were the same as those of a reasonable man. It dragged Britain down a fateful route of appeasement which resulted in a world war that lasted years. Had Hitler been stamped on the moment he marched into the Saar history would have been very different and many lives would be saved. Chamberlain never lived to see the defeat of Germany and died a broken man. The reins were given th the ‘warmonger’ Churchill.
It’s time for us to realise that the only way we are going to be able to beat the enemy is to bring into existence the unity and the sense of purpose that we had when we faced Hitler. This is an enemy within. In order to preserve the society we live in it is now essential that we redefine what is acceptable and what is not. Just because a man is a muslim does not make him any less a racist or a facist than a member of the BNP. In order to protect our freedoms we must consider sacrificing some of them, for a while at least, on the understanding that it is being done for national purpose. During WW2 we had to give up some of our freedoms, ID cards were issued, at the end of the war, the enemy defeated then the ID cards were withdrawn.
If the political status quo does nothing to address this then it will fall to society to take its own stand. There is huge evidence to suggest that in these Islands, and across the west, the plebes sordida are fed up and are desperately looking for a solution to this. They no longer wish to be bullied by these nutters. They cannot believe that Abu Baraa isn’t in prison or at the very least, deported to the caliphate he wants to live in. Unless the political status quo takes action then they should not be surprised if people start to take things into their own hands. If they do they are not racist monsters or islamophobes, they are just people looking to defend their society, family and way of life.
If a ‘good chap’ like me is thinking this way then there are millions in the UK who will likely agree and many of them will have more extreme solutions to the problem. Yet, there is no political voice for us.
Stand up for our western way of life, stand up for democracy, say no to facists, it is time for the armies of democracy to fight for freedom again.

There is logic to the PC MC madness:
1) ISIS has nothing to do with Islam.
2) Yes, ISIS members are Muslims, but they are “extremists” who have “twisted” and “hijacked” the great Religion of Peace.
3) All religions and cultures and societies have their “extremists”.
4) Right-wing Islamophobes are trying to use the existence & phenomenon of ISIS and other Muslim “extremists” in order to paint all Muslims with a broad brush, by imputing the “extremism” evident in ISIS to all Muslims and to their mainstream Islam.
Most in the Counter-Jihad either ignore this logic and think the simpler-minded thought that the PC MCs are merely thoroughly incoherent and/or are evil liars. Others in the Counter-Jihad try to counter this logic by insisting that they are not tarring “all Muslims” with a broad brush — hoping by pointing this out that the PC MCs will cut them some slack; but that’s a vain hope, since the PC MCs are not operating rationally, but rather assume that any criticism of Muslims and Islam that goes beyond the very minimal strict guidelines of only criticizing the “extremist hijackers” of Islam — in the framework of carefully distinguishing their extremism from Islam — must be, perforce, dangerously right-wing Islamophobia that threatens diversity and portends the slippery slope that will lead to lynch mobs against all these precious Brown People (Muslims), if not ultimately to rounding them up putting them in camps, and exterminating them.
