Iraqi Christians patrol village retaken from Islamic State, vow to hold ground

Bakufa flag

“Those who do not own a weapon cannot join and many said that Dwekh Nawsha would have 250 men if only they had the needed firepower.” But Obama is busy arming groups like the Free Syrian Army.

In July 2013, Free Syrian Army fighters entered the Christian village of Oum Sharshouh and began burning down houses and terrorizing the population, forcing 250 Christian families to flee the area. Worthy News reported that just two days later, Free Syrian Army rebels “targeted the residents of al-Duwayr/Douar, a Christian village close to the city of Homs and near Syria’s border with Lebanon….Around 350 armed militants forcefully entered the homes of Christian families who were all rounded-up in the main square of the village and then summarily executed.” And in September 2013, a day after Secretary of State John Kerry praised the Free Syrian Army as “a real moderate opposition,” the FSA took to the Internet to post videos of its attack on the ancient Syrian Christian city of Maaloula, one of the few places where Aramaic, the language of Jesus, is still spoken.

This is just the faction Obama is backing. This is America’s shame.

“Iraqi Christian militia patrols village retaken from Islamic State group, vows to hold ground,” Associated Press, November 13, 2014:

BAKUFA, Iraq – An Iraqi Christian militia’s flag is hoisted high over the village of Bakufa in northern Iraq, less than a month after Islamic State militants were pushed out and the extremists’ black banner taken down.

The predominantly Christian hamlet of 95 houses that had about 500 people, located some 390 kilometers (243 miles) north of Baghdad, was overrun by the Islamic State group during its shocking blitz this summer, along with 22 other villages nearby.

In a counter-offensive, the Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters swept in from the north, battling the Islamic State fighters house-to-house. The fighting forced the villagers to flee to Kurdish towns and cities elsewhere in northern Iraq.

Once Bakufa was retaken, the Kurdish fighters helped set up the village militia, made up of about 70 volunteers and known as Dwekh Nawsha, or “self-sacrifice” in Assyrian.

The men of Dwekh Nawsha now patrol and guard Bakufa round-the-clock, in the hope that the village stays free long enough so their families can return.

“We found ourselves helpless,” said Caesar Jacob, a deputy of to the Christian militia’s commander. The 44-year-old electrician said the militiamen worked “side-by-side” with the peshmerga fighters but then gradually took over responsibility for their village.

“We must depend on ourselves to defend our land for now and the future,” Jacob told The Associated Press.

The militia commander, Albert Kisso, 47, said Christian territories in Nineveh province needed their own protection and the forming of the militia was the logical outcome….

The Kurdish peshmerga fighters are proud of what they did for Bakufa.

“We came here … to protect our Christian brothers and their homes,” said Abdul Rahman Kawriny, the local peshmerga brigade commander. “There is constant cooperation and assistance. We are always together.”

The Dwekh Nawsha militiamen spend the days patrolling the narrow village streets in bullet-proof vests, their insignia prominently displayed on their fatigues.

Relying on donations from Christian charities abroad and wealthier members of the Iraqi Assyrian community, the Christian fighters must supply their own weapons.

Those who do not own a weapon cannot join and many said that Dwekh Nawsha would have 250 men if only they had the needed firepower.

    More evidence that the West should recognise and support the state of Kurdistan. In a part of the world where there are very few “good guys”, the peshmerga stand out. Start isolating Turkey and backing Kurdistan.

        The Kurds are sunni mohammedans, no different from any other mohammedans.

        Haven’t we learnt not to trust *any* mohammedans ??!! We armed the Taliban, because we thought they were the ‘good guys’, and look where that got us.

          No. “We” didn’t. Western politicians might. But “we” didn’t.

          Actually, I wasn’t talking about “the Kurds”. I was talking about the state of Kurdistan. If you genuinely believe they are “the same” as, say, “Palestine”, I suggest you read this article by a JEWISH writer:

          “Kerry’s international party should be trying to aid the Kurds, OUR FRIENDS and the mortal enemy of ISIS, instead of trying to lavish more international funds on Hamas and Fatah — two sides of a movement …”

          http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/4777/support-allies-terrorists

          or this one, by a Tel Aviv-based journalist:

          “….while Israel’s relations with its neighbours remain deeply problematic, its ties with the Kurds have for years helped nurture a military force that has proved itself more resilient than the US-funded Iraqi army. For years Israel’s relationship with the Kurds was kept secret, but gradually the issue has cropped up more and more in interviews in Israeli media and in academic reports.”

          I genuinely believe that **all** mohammedans are essentially the same, and never, ever to be trusted. They **all** follow paedomo, the foul koran, and sharia. Some are just more orthodox than others.

          And being Jewish, or Israeli, doesn’t exempt one from short-sighted, wishful thinking. The Kurds are **mohammedans**, and sooner or later, they will do what all mohammedans do; turn on, and bite, the hand that feeds them.

          The Israelis should be cultivating ties with Assyrian *Christians*, not bloody mohammedans. A horse of a different colour is still a horse.

          I might even be labeled an extremist in this community due to some of my comments, but when it comes to supporting Kurdistan I agree we should. Kurds may secretly share the same beliefs as the rest of them, but to the geo political factors at play they won’t act on them, and they will make sure to continue to keep strong ties to securlarism and the west. Both the Sunni and the Shiite hate them, they are boxed in on all sides by hostile neighbors, who else are they going to ally with?

          They also help protect non muslims and minorities in the region. Do they do this out of the kindness of their own hearts, or because of the geo political gains it gets them in the west who knows. I don’t care about the reasons I care about the results. Thus far Kurdistan has been a moderate force for good in that part of the region. They need us, and will be a lot less likely to bite the hand that feeds them.

          I may be a naive fool, but I also believe many Kurds developed a cultural identity outside of islam to some extent. Kurdish nationalism runs deep, which is a good thing, it sure beats the imperialistic caliphate manifest destiny nonsense. The Kurds are thinking much smaller, they want their own nation state. Honestly who’s to blame them, both the Sunni and Shiite crap on them every chance they get. I believe a strong “Kurdistan also helps counter groups like IS.

          Also from a geo political stand point they make a good proxy force who will be much less likely to turn on us and who is much more moderate. Would they continue to be so moderate if they won’t surrounded on all sides by enemies and the situation were reversed? Who knows, as it stands now they are helping non muslims out greatly, and they have earned my respect for that regardless of why they do it. I think as muslims go they are much less muslim than the rest of them. At this point I don’t care why they do it, but I’ll support any moderate force that helps keep the peace and protect innocents from being butchered.

          Due to the geo political factors at play Kurdistan is in a vulnerable position and will remain vulnerable. A vulnerable person or nation is much easier to negotiate with and nudge than one who isn’t obviously. Kurdistan knows how important maintaining good relations with the west is. I think we should support an indepedendent Kurdistan. They could be like a permanent Mideast base in the region as well.

          Think of how Israel is, or Japan. Since Turkey is going back to their Ottoman caliphate roots we need to form good relations with another secular force in the region. Kurdistan has proven themselves on the battlefield, even out gunned they still showed their resolve, things are changing on the battlefield now that they have support as well as supplies of weapons.

          We have been handed a golden opportunity. If we save Kurdistan they despite being muslims will see our commitment to them, and be much more willing to cooperate with us in any future endeavors. We could also station troops back in Iraq for extra security by setting up a base in Kurdistan, and our men won’t have to worry about being fragged in the back by the Kurds. From a geo political and moral stand point it makes sense. The Kurds regardless of their reasons have helped out non muslims and other minorities in the region. I care about results not reasons. From a pragmatic and ideological stand point supporting Kurdish Independence make sense. Turkey is no longer an ally worth trusting they have a much different agenda than we do, they wish to be top dog in the region and become the center of the Sunni Caliphate. We should trade weapons for oil and give Kurdistan modern weapons including f-16s. Id rather the Kurds have F-16s than the Turks.

          Nov 15, 2014 at 3:29 pm

          I say arm the sh*t out of Kurdistan make them a fortress give them advanced everything and training, have them be a counter force to Turkish ambitions in the region as well. The Kurds also have no love for the Shiite especially Iran. We have been given a golden opportunity to establish a powerful proxy force in the region who is much more likely to remain loyal to us. They are between a rock and a hard place and they would jump at the chance to have a powerful ally. We could also buy their oil or trade our weapons for oil or just have them buy them off of us. We could turn Kurdistan into the next Israel and they both counter the Sunni and the Shiite.

    US led Airstrikes on the fiends who compose the jihad terror entity known as ISIS is ,for a start, a good way to handle these villains. For these Islamic thugs have proven, time and time again, by their own words and violent actions, that they are heinous,cruel and murderous fiends and cannot be reasoned with. They will not respond to reason. The only language that they can and will understand is the language of the strong power of military might. As Thomas Jefferson had stated “With every barbarous people…force is law.’

    If Obama really put any thought into his leftist ideology, he would be backing the secular Marxist Kurds in Turkey, the PKK. That is what logic dictates.

    If Obama were really a centre-leaning moderate as he often tries to portray himself, he would back these Christians with a little bit of help.

    If Obama were completely driven by the same greed as the shadowy figures running the US Military Industrial Complex and US Big Oil who ran George The Idiot’s administration by proxy, he would be backing the dictators of the region, if he could find any left, and be spewing nonsense about democracy with them in charge. But there aren’t any except Assad, and Obama wants to kill him.

    If Obama were driven by Islam he would be…

      The future stands against those who insult the prophet muhammad, remember when Obama said that? Well after even a little investigation, once can deduce from historical records and writings that the prophet and founder of islam, was a mass murdering, pedophile who owned slaves and was a sociopath, who most likely started his religion to gain power. As we all know religion is a great way to manipulate the masses when you have imperialistic ambitions. Yet our esteemed President talks glowingly about muhammad. This is pretty telling to me. Obama spent a lot of time in a Madrassa, you think he got enough education on islam to understand who muhammad was. Things that make you go hmmm. I won’t even get into his foreign policy of supporting jihadist groups world wide.

      I agree. The best idea is to give advanced weapons including f-16s and Apaches as well as tanks and other heavy weapons to the Kurds. They can be our army in the region to deal with the eventual islamic mole that pops up. Iraq as a nation united is over lets be honest, the Sunni Shiite thing is like the Hatfields and the Mccoys blood feud on steroids. You think a 1400 year blood feud is going to just go away? I say arm the only stable moderate force in the region who has a military force that has proven it’s resolve on the battlefield, even being out gunned they still stood their ground.

      With Turkey doing what we all knew they would do eventually go back to their Ottoman roots we can’t trust them anymore. there is a good chance in the future they will be our enemy, they are already supporting the islamic state for instance. We don’t even need many troops on the ground beef up the Kurdish military trade oil for weapons have our troops embedded with the Kurds do their magic and boom. Forming an independent Kurdistan and making them as well armed as Turkey would also hurt Iran’s ambitions in the region. Will we think this far ahead? Of course not we have idiots running or government and idiots in the military and intel leadership positions. It’s the blind leading the blind.

          Absolutely, as I’ve written to camoron. And the Israelis should be cultivating **Syrian Christians**, not pussyfooting around with Kurds who are mohammedans, and therefore bound to be treacherous in the end.

      I think we should support Kurdistan over the Shiite Iraqi government. Incorporate the Christian communities and other minority communities into the new Kurdistan, then drop so much heavy weapons on the Kurds they will run out of room trying to place them all somewhere, then back the Kurds independence. When the Sunni and Shites complain the Kurds can do a flyby in their new shiny f-16s and laugh. This will put a hamper in both Iran’s imperialistic ambitions and our trusted sunni allies. They will have yet another well armed secular force on their doorstep just like Israel. Add to the fact Israel already has diplomatic relations with them and you have just formed a new coalition in the region.

    Hmmm. I am starting to like the Kurds even more.

    Max Sedawyee’s _All Waiting to be Hanged_ gives an Iraqi Jew’s story of flight from Ba’athi Iraq to Iran (later to Israel and England) with Kurdish help, and sympathetic treatment by the Shah’s police. Now, it seems, the Kurds are helping the Assyrian Christians defend themselves.

    Small-p pacifist that I may be, I approve of this Assyrian self-defense, and am glad they’ve found allies. If anyone has a just war claim, it is these Assyrian and Kurdish folk defending themselves against an avowedly genocidal movement.

    May God open the eyes of lots of Kurdish people to what their Assyrian neighbors have known since the days of Abgar of Urhai.

    —————————————————————————————————
    Go Christians!!!!! I feel so much pain for these people. Really good to see the words “Christian” and “militia” in the same sentence though. This is what Christians have to do. Life is dog eat dog and they know this. Not “turn the other cheek” when Muslims go on a killing spree and barge into their homes. Even children can be trained to used weapons. It is viewed terribly from a western perspective but what else can Christians do? They want to kill us, and children are defenseless too. There’s nowhere to run and hide when the Muslims barge into your town. Even our children have been taught how to protect themselves.

    Christy, I understand that you are trying to point out that not all persecution of Christians is done by Muslims. Okay. But what are your OWN thoughts about how to stop this persecution? And by the way, what are your thoughts on the OpenDoors index of Christian persecution I showed you yesterday? Why do you think there are so many Islamic countries at the top of the index of most unfriendly countries? What is it about those countries that makes them so unfriendly to Christians?

    Here’s the link below if you missed it before:

    • CogitoErgoSum says

      Nov 14, 2014 at 3:08 pm

      Yes, some Christians are persecuted for reasons not related to Islam. But a large number are. Simply because there are other various reasons, why should I ignore one of the MAJOR reasons? I see Islam as a major persecutor of Christians. Maybe some Israelis persecute Christians, but the numbers are small compared to the number of Christians persecuted by Muslims ….. and the numbers are growing. Islam is a problem and it’s becoming worse. Your article says Islam is not a threat. I disagree. You are the one missing the point by thinking drawing attention to other threats will lessen the threat of Islam. And that’s not hate on my part; it’s being realistic. As for your part, it’s either subtrefuge or a refusal to face reality. Are you Christy the Christian or Christy the Muslim? If you are a Christian you really aren’t being very helpful. If you are a Muslim you really need to change your name.

        Nov 14, 2014 at 3:46 pm

        Christy, I don’t care who wrote the article. I don’t agree with the idea that Islam is not a threat. As long as the the command to kill Christians (along with Jews and others) is in the Quran, Islam is a threat. And those commands will not ever change because Muslims consider them the unchangeable words of their god. That makes the threat the same today as it was in Muhammad’s day and pointing to other threats does not change anything. Once that is realized by anyone who wishes to “dialogue” with a Muslim, there is no more to say …. until the Muslim stops being a Muslim ….. and holding that threat in his or her heart.

      • CogitoErgoSum says

        Nov 14, 2014 at 4:53 pm

        And you do know Islam better than the Muslims themselves? Do you believe Allah has told the Muslims to subjugate those who do not submit to the religion of Islam or else to kill them? Is that the wrong interpretation of the Arabic in the Quran? And if it is correct, has Allah revoked that command so it does not apply to Muslims today?

        “christy” needs to examine her own soul regarding whether or not she is going to hell …

        Question: “Who will go to hell?”

        Answer: http://www.gotquestions.org/who-will-go-to-hell.html

        Excerpt:

        Jesus was clear that “no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again” (John 3:3). He was also clear that hell is an eternal punishment for those who do not obey Him (Matthew 25:46). Second Thessalonians 1:8–9 says that in the end God “will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.” John the Baptist said about Jesus, “His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12).

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        So is “christy” born again? Hmm, I don’t think so …
        Question: “I am a Muslim. Why should I consider becoming a Christian?”
        Answer: http://www.gotquestions.org/Muslim-Christian.html
      • CogitoErgoSum says
        Nov 14, 2014 at 5:23 pm
        Are you referring to 1John 3:15? “Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.” Did Jesus say that or did John? No matter. I do not hate anyone, Christy, especially my brothers and my sisters. Then you believe we are all children of the Father? But then I also have the question, who is our Father? Who is your father, Christy? Who is the father of the Muslims?
        And since we are drifting off into a discussion of the Bible. Here is another verse for you to ponder:
        You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)
        Christy says:
        If you have hate in your heart (which most of you on here clearly do for Muslims)
        ——————————–
        Hahaha thanks for the laughs hun.
        Pay attention everyone:
        This is another Muslim getting ruffled when Christians try to fight back. They *try* though they *fail*, to appeal to the ‘weakness’ in the hearts of Christians who are taught from a young age to show love and charity for all.
        This is of course, a very positive thing. But Muslims like to take advantage of this by turning it on Christians and using it like a (piss poor) weapon (in addition to an actual weapon that is).
        For example: Muslims living next door, ‘borrowing’ items from my grandmother. They know that Christians are taught to be charitable. And they are. But when the Muslim can’t get what he wants, he pulls a machete on her. Claiming that she is lying and demands to be given what he wants. Trying to heap guilt on the poor woman to pressure her to give him what he demands. Muslims seem to adopt the same mindset, regardless of where they are. It’s verbal assaults on their Christian faith, as well as physical assaults where possible too.
        Never, never listen to these people. They are truly followers of satan and should be disregarded completely. Imagine living inside the head of a Muslim? They are taught nothing about love for all of humanity. They are rotten to the core.
      And you also will go to hell almeira, unless you learn to love Muslims.
      This is false, and demonstrates what “christy” doesn’t know about scripture …
      Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” — John 3:3
      “christy” fails to see that SHE is at risk for hell.
      Also, confronting evil islam and company with the TRUTH is a just a noble cause. It would be UNLOVING and dangerous to sit idly by and say nothing and allow islam to grow like a cancer.
      More from the Bible about “loving” muslims …
      “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” — Romans 12:9
      islam is definitely “evil”, so yeah–I hate islam! …and I make NO apology for hating evil islam, either.
      I’ve seen the same behavior in women who have suffered from abusive relationships. They keep going back to their abuser, or sometimes when confronted and told to get away from the abuser or turn them into the police, they get angry and many times start to defend the man abusing them. There is a name for this condition, it’s called battered wife syndrome. I think after years of the psychlogical and emotional abuse muslim women take many of them suffer from a whole host of mental illnesses. I feel bad for muslim women living under such horrid conditions.
      The women and children born into lands where the death cult holds sway millions upon millions of innocent victims. Then you beat that ideology into them every day, abuse them ect truly evil. I think many muslim women like Christy and Rez suffer from battered wife syndrome. They defend their abuser with such vigor, admit you are being abused by a sick ideology that views you as a women as filth and throw off your shackles. I as a dirty infidel was taught to love and respect women I think my ideology is far superior to your death cult’s hatred and degradation of women and anyone or anything else that is different.
