Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

NY Daily News: Islamic State’s rise has fueled “Islamophobia”

Nov 8, 2014 5:01 pm By Robert Spencer

IslamicStateThere is no free press in the U.S. Since the Islamic State began to make headlines, there has not been a single article about how Muslims are instituting programs to convince young Muslims that the Islamic State’s understanding of Islam is wrong. There has not been a single rally of any significant size of Muslims against the Islamic State — nothing like the demonstrations against cartoons of Muhammad and the Pope’s Regensburg remarks. But there has been an avalanche of pieces like this one in the New York Daily News, claiming that Muslims are being victimized.

This is the only point of view that the mainstream media allows. “Journalists” such as Corinne Lestch (and there is a host of others, of course) do all they can to convince Americans not to believe what they see in the news, but to believe them that the problem is not jihad violence and Muslims victimizing non-Muslims, but non-Muslims victimizing Muslims, who must not be challenged to work against the understanding of Islam that gives rise to Muslim-on-Infidel violence, for that would be “Islamophobic.”

More interspersed below, and Pamela Geller has a terrific takedown of this ridiculous article here.

“Muslims across America, Europe face renewed 9/11-style scorn amid ISIS’ violent campaign,” by Corinne Lestch (on Twitter, @NYDNCorinne), New York Daily News, November 7, 2014 (thanks to all who sent this in):

When Zainab Chaudry left a grocery store Wednesday in her native Baltimore, a man loitering outside followed the 32-year-old to her car.

“‘Are you one of those people who are beheading people over there?’” she recalled him asking her. “He said, ‘You need to go back to where you came from, because you’re not welcome here.’”

Step back and think about this for a second. A lout in a grocery store says some insulting things to a Muslim, and it makes the New York Daily News. Late in August I was in a rental-car shuttle and a Muslim (to whom I had just given up my seat) said some insulting things to me. That was not news, and it never remotely occurred to me that it might be, but this is. Why? Because this anecdote, uncorroborated by anyone but its alleged victim, fits the mainstream media narrative, while the other one does not.

Note also the grotesque lack of proportion. Has Corinne Lestch ever written article about the Muslim massacres of Christians all over the world in the last few years, all done in the name of Islam and in accord with imperatives in the Qur’an and Sunnah? I doubt it. Did she write about the culture that could make a 13-year-old boy say, “I like Islamic State because they pursue Sharia and kill infidels”? Unlikely. These things and 1,000 others like them don’t fit the mainstream narrative, and so they don’t get mainstream attention. But some creep says unkind things to a Muslim in the supermarket, and it’s “Stop the Presses!”

Chaudry, who wears a traditional headscarf, is one of many Muslims and Muslim-Americans who face heightened backlash since the Islamic State tried to establish a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

“I never really was very conscious of my Muslim identity in a negative way as I was after 9/11, but even more so after ISIS and the beheadings,” Chaudry said in an interview with the Daily News. She was referring to a slew of executions of American and British citizens by the militants.

From Europe to Canada to the United States, experts say Muslims have been the target of increased discrimination and recent waves of violence as ISIS continues its brutal campaign — in an environment seemingly more hostile than the one after 9/11.

Which “experts”? Oh, do read on.

Social media has also contributed to the invective against Muslims, more so than after 9/11, when Facebook and Twitter did not yet exist.

“The use of social media has grown exponentially in recent years,” said Ibrahim Hooper of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. “Even post-9/11, it wasn’t really there. But nowadays, everybody uses social media. When you have this constant stream of anti-Muslim polemics and false information, it has a corrosive effect on our society.”

Ah, now we see our “expert” in Muslim victimhood: none other than Honest Ibe Hooper of Hamas-linked CAIR. Corinne Letsch doesn’t see fit to mention, of course, that while CAIR is quite mainstream these days, this self-styled “civil rights group” was actually named an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case by the Justice Department. CAIR operatives have repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror. CAIR’s cofounder and longtime Board chairman (Omar Ahmad), as well as its chief spokesman (Hooper himself), have made Islamic supremacist statements. Its California chapter distributed a poster telling Muslims not to talk to the FBI. CAIR has opposed every anti-terror measure that has ever been proposed or implemented.

The acts of bigotry also take on other forms.

Last month, an Albuquerque mosque was hit by a Molotov cocktail, which briefly ignited, according to local reports. Five shots were fired Tuesday at a mosque in Coachella, Calif., when four people were inside preparing for an early morning prayer.

Whoever committed these crimes should be found, arrested, and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Lestch doesn’t mention, of course, that Hamas-linked CAIR and other Muslims have not hesitated to stoop even to fabricating “hate crimes,” including attacks on mosques. CAIR and other groups like it want and need hate crimes against Muslims, because they can use them for political points and as weapons to intimidate people into remaining silent about the jihad threat.

No one was hurt in either incident.

Hooper said fewer people are condemning the incidents, which are being investigated as hate crimes.

“Even after 9/11, when a mosque would be attacked, we’d see people coming out with flowers and offers of support,” Hooper told The News. “Unfortunately, we’re seeing less of that.”

Maybe people are getting fed up with your endless whining.

Across Europe, the anti-Muslim sentiment has reached a boiling point.

There was a recent spate of violent attacks in Germany, according to a Washington Post story, when right-wing conservatives protesting Islamic fundamentalism in Cologne clashed with police while waving German flags and screaming “foreigners out!” Dozens were injured.

In Paris, a Muslim woman wearing traditional clothing was kicked out of a performance at the Opera Bastille.

And in Denmark, some politicians are calling for a ban on Muslim immigrants from entering the country.

Note how Lestch presents these incidents and actions as if they were gratuitous manifestations of bigotry and hatred — which is the Islamic supremacist line. No acknowledgment is ever made of the political and supremacist aspects of Islam, the vows of conquest and subjugation, the violence against non-Muslims, etc. No innocent people should ever be victimized. It is the height of dishonesty to portray suspicion of Islam in Europe as if it had no connection to 7/7, 3/11, the boasts about the imminent conquest of Rome, the never-ending stream of arrests of Muslims for terror plots, etc. Lestch doesn’t challenge any of the Muslims to whom she speaks on what their communities are doing to fight against jihad terror and Islamic supremacism. I’m sure it never crossed her mind to do so; that would have been “Islamophobic.”

“The stigma against Muslims is just getting worse, and I have considered moving across the border to Sweden,” 21-year-old Alisiv Ceran told the newspaper. “I feel that here, they are saying that integration means forgetting your religious values. I don’t agree with that.”

Experts said Muslims have encountered discrimination in Europe since before 9/11 — but it may be intensifying now because thousands of Europeans have fled to the Middle East to fight with the militants.

Actually, hate crimes against Jews are much more common than hate crimes against Muslims. Where is Lestch’s article on Islamic antisemitism and how because of it, Jews are increasingly menaced in Europe?

While dozens of Americans are believed to have traveled to fight alongside terrorists, at least 3,000 Europeans — many from France and Germany — are estimated to have joined ISIS forces, according to New York-based intelligence firm The Soufan Group.

“You have lots of Americans who, like Europeans, now see Islam as not a religion — it is simply a terrorist ideology,” said Jocelyne Cesari, senior research fellow at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace & World Affairs at Georgetown University.

Cesari is being spectacularly disingenuous here. The truth is that they don’t see the religion and the terrorist ideology as mutually exclusive.

But the anti-Muslim sentiment in the U.S. is “not as common or intense as what’s happening in Europe,” Cesari told The News.

Chaudry, who also works for CAIR, said associating ISIS with Islam only legitimizes the terrorists’ propaganda.

Ah — Chaudry also works for Hamas-linked CAIR, but Lestch saw fit to bury that fact.

“They are barbaric,” she said. “There’s nothing Muslim about ISIS. In actuality, the vast majority of their victims are Muslims. The kinds of atrocities they’re engaged in in no way reflects the true ideals of Islam.”

The vast majority of their victims are Muslims whom they consider apostates and heretics, and thus deserving of death. But here again, Lestch doesn’t challenge Chaudry to explain how the Islamic State is violating the tenets of Islam. She heard what she wanted to hear, and that was good enough.

“In Paris, a Muslim woman wearing traditional clothing was kicked out of a performance at the Opera Bastille.”

The low level of journalist integrity shown by this statement is truly astonishing.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11174663/Paris-Opera-cast-refuse-to-perform-for-veiled-woman.html

France has a law against wearing a face veil in public. Like it or leave it, it’s the law. A Muslim woman attended a public performance of an opera dressed in a full-body niquab, including a face covering, and the cast refused to perform unless she either uncovered or left. This was fully in accord with French law.

The article baldly stated that this case of non-violently and legally pressuring a Muslim woman to obey the French law was a case of boiling anti-Muslim sentiment. It probably was, but in response to the flagrant disregard for French law and French social custom.

My feeling is that no reporter could be this bad without direct orders from her superiors to deliver a whitewash of Islam.

And Pierre Perret has a song against wearing a face veil in public:

“There has not been a single rally of any significant size of Muslims against the Islamic State”

Wouldn’t any such rally be immediately dismissed as taqqiya since Muslims are ordered to lie and deceive infidels?

      No.

So lebel would have us believe that most Muslims are actually passionately opposed to the savagery of Islam, but they don’t bother to protest it because mean ol’ “Islamophobes” might think it was Taqiyya.

Like every Muslim apologist, lebel likes to pretend that anything wrong with Islam is the fault of Infidels.

By the way, lebel is hardly new to this—he posts fairly seldom, but has been doing so here for many years—and he has never said a *single* thing critical of Muslim oppression and violence.

No, actually Kurds living in Germany have fought with other Muslims who support ISIS, but I guess that is not considered a rally, more like a brawl. The liberal MSM would just love to have a story to report of Muslims protesting against ISIS, and you know that.

Slightly off topic, but this speech by Putin recently went largely ignored in the west. It covers a wide range of topics, including Syria and ISIS.

This needs to be reviewed by as many westerners as possible, it’s been completely censored in the west.

” there has not been a single article about how Muslims are instituting programs to convince young Muslims that the Islamic State’s understanding of Islam is wrong.”
    ———————————————————-
This is the worry of relying on Muslims to do anything. Or even expecting them to honour any kind of agreement, even if one was made. We’re the ones, being ‘civilized’ and sitting and waiting and hoping that they will see our point of view in large enough numbers to make a dent in the growth of ISIS recruitment and other random jihadist attacks. This obviously puts us at their mercy (mercy, a concept at odds with Islam itself).
Plenty of Muslims would not see the actions of their fellow Muslims as murder because it’s sanctioned by their ‘religion.’ So relying on them to do the right thing, even when having seen their huge potential for dishonesty would be suicidal. Many will continue to be killed if we expect too much from them.

The paper shows how totally “dehimmi-fied” their thinking has become. Even the slightest reaction to the the daily slaughter of thousands in the name of ‘allah”, is still seen as “islomaphobia”, and not reason enough to attempt any type of defense-ive actions!

Their minds have been totally “subjugated”. It’s over there, so who cares. Ready for the slaughter……..

NY Daily News: Islamic State’s rise has fueled “Islamophobia”
    ……………………..

And the rise of Nazi Germany fueled “Fascistophobia”…sarc/off

    More:

Has Corinne Lestch ever written article about the Muslim massacres of Christians all over the world in the last few years, all done in the name of Islam and in accord with imperatives in the Qur’an and Sunnah? I doubt it.
    ……………………..

    She did write this:

“Harvard students think America is greater threat to world peace than ISIS”

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/harvard-students-america-greater-threat-world-peace-isis-article-1.1969170

To be fair, she doesn’t seem to entirely agree—but doesn’t really say why not.

    More:

Chaudry, who wears a traditional headscarf, is one of many Muslims and Muslim-Americans who face heightened backlash since the Islamic State tried to establish a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
    ……………………..

Even assuming this incident occurred—and given Muslims’ long history of faking “Islamophobic” incidents in the West, one cannot be sure of that—the idea that someone said something to her decrying Islamic savagery is *hardly* the equivalent of that savagery itself.

And note the manipulative language: Chaudary is a “native” of Baltimore—i.e., no should shave the right to question the Americanism of a native—and the man who spoke with her was “loitering”—obviously, he is shady to begin with.

I have long noticed that many people who are not writers and have no connection with journalism fail to consciously notice such phrasing at all unless it is pointed out to them—but it does tend to influence how they regard the story.

    More:

“I never really was very conscious of my Muslim identity in a negative way as I was after 9/11, but even more so after ISIS and the beheadings”
    ……………………..

Has she ever taken it up with her coreligionists—that perhaps if Muslims weren’t regularly murdering Infidels that we might have a more positive view of Islam?

Of course not—I’ve said it before, but if one did not know what it was, one might assume from the way it is commonly spoken of that 9/11 was some sort of “Islamophobic” *against* Muslims, rather than a Muslim atrocity against Infidels.

Notice—*very telling*—that Choudary doesn’t actually have one word of criticism about Muslim violence against non-Muslims.

    More:

From Europe to Canada to the United States, experts say Muslims have been the target of increased discrimination and recent waves of violence as ISIS continues its brutal campaign — in an environment seemingly more hostile than the one after 9/11.
    ……………………..

Note that Lestch can’t point to a *single Muslim who has been harmed*—doesn’t sound like the usual result of “waves of violence”. Certainly, it is not the actual waves of violence by Muslims against innocent Infidels.

    More:

Across Europe, the anti-Muslim sentiment has reached a boiling point.
    ……………………..

Really? And yet, it doesn’t sound as though any Muslims were harmed there, either. Not much of a “boiling point”, after all.

    More:

Note how Lestch presents these incidents and actions as if they were gratuitous manifestations of bigotry and hatred — which is the Islamic supremacist line.
    ……………………..

Very true—as if we are supposed to be sanguine and not even dare to mention our being murdered on 9/11 or 7/7 or in the Islamic State.

And why not? Under Islamic law Infidels are not allowed to talk about violence against them—not unless they want more of the same. This is the state Muslims like Ibrahim Hooper of CAIR want to see imposed in the West, as well.

    More:

It is the height of dishonesty to portray suspicion of Islam in Europe as if it had no connection to 7/7, 3/11, the boasts about the imminent conquest of Rome, the never-ending stream of arrests of Muslims for terror plots, etc.
    ……………………..

Of course, this is not allowed under Islamic law, either—no defense against Muslim violence is allowed. And dhimmi tools like Lestch—though she may not fully understand it—are all too happy to enable this.

    More:

“The stigma against Muslims is just getting worse, and I have considered moving across the border to Sweden,” 21-year-old Alisiv Ceran told the newspaper. “I feel that here, they are saying that integration means forgetting your religious values. I don’t agree with that.”
    ……………………..

Are part of her “religious values” oppressing and brutalizing Infidels? For any pious Muslim, this is exactly the case.

    More:

Ah — Chaudry also works for Hamas-linked CAIR, but Lestch saw fit to bury that fact.
    ……………………..

Which makes it even less likely that this incident—mild though it was—ever happened at all. CAIR is infamous for its false victim-mongering.

      This is *very* true, graven.

Me, I always read newspaper reports etc, *very* carefully. I’m always on the lookout for tendentious vocabulary, unwarranted assumptions/assertions, et al.

I was taught to never blindly believe what I read; to be on the look out for what I’ve mentioned above, as well as bias, attempted propaganda etc.

Perhaps it’s because I was taught privately, and therefore not subjected to the pernicious PC/MC claptrap so endemic in education today, plus I went to Durham, and was taught by a brilliant prof who was the *antithesis* of PC/MC rubbish, and taught us all to be very, very sceptical of whatever we read. And, certainly at Durham, academic rigor was taken very seriously, and people were constantly being pulled up in tutorials over making unwarranted assumptions.

Of course, it helps to have a fully functioning ”bullshit meter”, as Wellington puts it !

Just as a bit of personal information, given the current political climate – I’ve been getting a number of tattooes that mark me as distinctively Non Muslim. When I walk down the street, the looks of contempt and hatred I receive from these people is nothing short of astounding. A simple crucifix is not a hate symbol, but they seem to treat it as such.

Tell me, are we the hateful ones – or are they? Who are the true bigots in this conflict. They hate us because we do not agree with them, most Islamists conflate being “white” with being opposed to them. I don’t believe opposing Islam is racist, but the Islamists certainly are towards their hosts if they do not conform to their religion.

Do I fear for my safety? Yes and no. I would rather die proud of who I am than bow down in cowardice before these animals. If a day comes where some Islamist fascist wants to hurt me because I am not like them, then so be it. I, and I hope the West, will not go quietly – we will fight for our way of life until the day we die

The Muslims are the ones with phobia, against any non-Muslim or westernized Muslims. They are the ones who insult, persecute and do much worse to anyone who is non-Muslim or who is Muslim but is not extreme to the letter of the Quran. Even with the blatant and obvious attacks on westernized people, they continue to try and inflate their victimization. Their lying manipulations are pathetic and obvious.

A question to start. (First, a disclosure–I used to live in New York city, and read The Daily News. I left NYC in 1979, and have not picked up the paper since a few years before. Also, i posted elsewhere on JW–The daily News used to be right wing/conservative Republican; The New York Post-then owned by Dorothy Schiff, a left wing rag. When The Post became part of Fox, it went right wing, and I THINK about that time, the Daily News went leftist).

The question: THE DAILY NEWS IS NOT, LIKE THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, A NATIONAL PAPER. Even (more so in the past) The New York Times had a national reputation. (They at least had the news and editorial departments separate).

THE INCIDENT, (IF IT HAPPENED) HAPPENED IN BALTIMORE MARYLAND.

WHY THE HELL IS A NEW YORK CITY, A LOCAL AREA PAPER, PRINTING IT?

ISN’T THERE ENOUGH REAL CRIME IN NY?

    Just asking.

All readers here should Google-search ‘Joseph Goebbels’ who was Hitler’s expertly shrewd propaganda minister. Search out that famous Alfred Eisenstaedt photo of a seated Goebbels glowering upward as his candid photo was snapped. The hatred on his face says it all. “Eisie” was famous for his Leica, and capturing the “decisive moment”.

The Muslims, who were allied with the Nazi’s, have obviously studied Goebbels’ spin techniques very carefully.

Our problem, at least here inside America, is that our attention spans are so truncated now because of the perceived need to compress every written thought into 140 characters that we can hardly think beyond the length of our fingers.

So, despot that, use those fingers, only two are good enough, and do some reading in History.

Don’t know when I’ve been so disgusted with “News”. What’s happened to our collective [pardon that word] perceptions and common sense that such BS as this out of NooYawk is accepted now as ‘ho hum’?

“I found him sitting alone at a folding table on the lawn of the hotel. I photographed him from a distance without him being aware of it. As documentary reportage, the picture may have some value: it suggests his aloofness. Later I found him at the same table surrounded by aides and bodyguards. Goebbels seemed so small, while his bodyguards were huge. I walked up close and photographed Goebbels. It was horrible. He looked up at me with an expression full of hate. The result, however, was a much stronger photograph. There is no substitute for close personal contact and involvement with a subject, no matter how unpleasant it may be.”
