Welcome to the new style of American politics. We are going to see a great deal more of this kind of thing in the coming years.
“Bachmann under 24/7 guard after ISIS threat,” by Garth Kant, WND, October 20, 2014:
WASHINGTON – The danger posed by ISIS to Americans has come to the homeland for Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., and a national publication may be making the ominous threat even worse.
Politico has reported federal officials are taking an online threat to the congresswoman so seriously she in now under 24-hour protection by a security detail.
However, Politico may be adding fuel to the fire by incorrectly reporting that the congresswoman had called on President Obama to declare war on Islam.
“Bachmann has been publicly critical of not only ISIL, but also Islam, calling on President Obama to declare war on the religion during a speech at the conservative Value Voters Summit at the end of September,” reported Politico.
The political website appears to have taken the remarks, particularly the word “war,” greatly out of context.
From the text of her speech, it appears Bachmann is clearly calling for war on the Islamic State.
She does cajole President Obama to recognize how a “radical ideology” that comes from Islam motivates jihadis such as the Islamic State, also called ISIS.
But she never calls for a war on Islam.
The following is the relevant text of her speech to the Value Voters Summit on Sept. 26 in Washington:
“It’s because we have jihadists who are subscribing to this radical ideology that believes that dying in the name of Islam gets them to heaven. This is spiritual warfare, and what we need to do is defeat Islamic jihad. (Cheers, applause.)
“Sadly, our president has the wrong prescription. He even failed to acknowledge their motivations for bringing about jihad. Yes, Mr. President, it is about Islam. (Cheers, applause.) And I believe that if you have an evil the order of this magnitude, you take it seriously. You declare war on it, you don’t dance around it, just like the Islamic State has declared war on the United States of America. You kill their leader, you kill their council, you kill their army until they wave the white flag of surrender. That’s how you win a war.”
While she does say, “It is about Islam,” she clearly appears to be referring to such statements by Obama as his declaration in his speech to the nation on Sept. 10, that the Islamic State terrorists “are not Islamic,” and for refusing to take radical ideology into account when formulating a response to the threat.
From the context of her speech, Bachmann’s call for war appears to be clearly directed at the Islamic State terrorists, in saying “[T]he Islamic State has declared war on the United States of America. You kill their leader, you kill their council, you kill their army until they wave the white flag of surrender. That’s how you win a war.”
And in saying, “You declare war on it, you don’t dance around it,” the congresswoman appears to be referring to what she and many critics believe to be the president’s tepid response to the great gains the jihadist army has made in Syria and Iraq. Many critics have likened it to the unsuccessful approach of incremental escalation used in Vietnam.
The Islamic State appears to consider her call to arms a threat, so it has threatened her.
WND Editor and CEO Joseph Farah said, “The Politico reporters should be fired immediately for so blatantly misrepresenting Michele Bachmann’s comments – especially given the threats from ISIS.”…
Indeed. But Leftist journalists generally consider foes of jihad terror to have no rights they are bound to respect.
Beagle says
I should, but won’t, go look at the leftist comments in reaction to this at places like Politico, DU, Kos, TDB, or HuffPo. I prefer to delude myself into thinking the Left is basically on the side of decency and opposes our common enemies.
Beagle says
Dang it. I tried for at least two minutes. A typical comment at Politico:
Trust me, her life couldn’t possibly have been LESS important than when she was in office. michelle bachman is, was and always will be a waste of skin.

The general thrust of the Left on this issue is that Bachmann is horrible. There is little to no criticism of IS. There is a split on security. As she will be leaving office soon, a solid number of leftists think the government should protect private citizens and a large number think the government should let IS murder her.
Also, there are those on the Left who are quite tempted to turn special forces upon their caricatured domestic political opposition:

Kind of reminds me of the Crusades. With the rabid right wing teaevangelicans doing their best to institute “Christian” theocracy into your legislative process – I can see this happening all over again. They are no better than the Taliban or ISIL – they just haven’t started killing people yet – even though they advocate for a strong military to go in an wipe out all the heathens. Pretty damn similar goals on both parts.

The left is evil, plain and simple. Always has been, always will be. And this is why I become infuriated when certain posters at this site coddle and/or apologize for a communist if said communist tosses an anti-islam bone or two our way. Leftists murdered well over 150 million people during the 20th century alone! Don’t ever forget that!
Richie says
The reason the left defends Islam and Jihadists is because of a perceived common enemy; namely a hatred of Israel and America, and a support of socialism. But leftists are so dimwitted they don’t realize Muslims would kill them as quickly as anyone on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

So is quite clear how “Evil” is empowered in our society.
We should defend our children from these elaborated indoctrination.

With the rabid LEFT wing” atheistprogresssive” doing their best to institute a lack of theocracy into your legislative process – I can see this increasing spiritual warfare… LEFTIS are WORSE than the Taliban or ISIL – they just can’t see that the Taliban would love to kill them and every American just because they HATE– they advocate for a weak military so American gets wiped out. Pretty damn similar goals on both sides–the Islamic haters and the progressiveatheit parties. I’d love to see the outcome if they buddied up; talk about turning on each other!

How about that? How may terrorist attacks are the result of christianism (not a word) since 9/11? How many airports have increased security because of christianism? You could have answered your question easily all by yourself and not have bothered to submit it here.

But she never calls for a war on Islam.
And that’s a damned shame. And for her measured response she gets her life curtailed in the name of personal safety put under threat by exercise of freedom of speech.
In this way, Michele has just joined the likes of Hirsi Ali, who lives under a perpetual fatwa death sentence even though she argues that Islam can be salvaged. Life in a security bubble is not a sustainable solution to misunderstanding Moslems.
Jay Boo says
“And for her measured response she gets her life curtailed in the name of personal safety put under threat by exercise of freedom of speech”

Yes APF, it is a shame that all politicians don’t call for a war on Islam.
Had she actually called for a war on Islam the liberal media would have used every lie and smear in the book with backing from their ‘sponsors’
Someone in her position has no choice but to use a measured response (and the same goes for Bill Maher as well).
Now,
As voegelinian would say “some commenters” in this case I am referring to voegelinian in particular just can’t seem to grasp this point.

Bill Warner’s video on a new method of resisting Islam
The method to which I refer has several MAJOR advantages. 1) It can be effective without any knowledge of Islam. That is hugely important, since very few people have the time to become expert enough to be able to persuade the uncommitted. 2) With this new method, one doesn’t even mention Islam, and therefore this method can bring in huge numbers of potential allies who have not gotten involved as they are afraid to criticize Islam publicly. 3) This new method employs the victim-oriented belief system of the Left, which is key to neutralizing left opposition.
Here’s a video of Bill Warner explaining the new method. Adapt it to your situation. Find a way to use it.

I just wish I knew why. Even if you disagree with her politics, she always presents herself in professional and gracious manner.
If there’s any evidence to the contrary, I’d love for one of these foaming-at-the-mouth-with-hatred liberals to provide it to me! (And of a video that’s not a sound byte, hasn’t been chopped up and put back together in a deceptive manner, or in any way taken out of context.)

Bachmann made some gaffe, Mo, a few years ago about Lexington and Concord being in New Hampshire rather than Massachusetts. For this gaffe (and no argument, she was simply wrong), she was described as stupid, a moron, a disgrace, et al. by the liberal media. A friend of my wife, a very liberal woman, told us what a disgrace Bachmann was because of this statement, with her implication being that Republicans in general are ignoramuses.
Well, Obama has made many egregious statements, among them being that “Austrian” is a language (yeah, Google this one), horribly mispronouncing “corpsmen” (he said the word as though it were “corpsemen”), referencing the “57 states,” asserting that Abraham Lincoln was a founding member of the Republican Party (he wasn’t; he remained a Whig and only joined the new party some two years or so after it was formed), mixing up Veterans Day with Memorial Day, completely misunderstanding the captial gains tax in a debate with other Democratic Presidential candidates in Philadelphia back in 2008, and not once, but twice, commenting on an ongoing legal investigation, something he never should have done as head of the Executive Branch and thus very possibly prejudicing these cases, they being the Professor Gates of Harvard tempest-in-a-tea-pot (which led to the quickly arranged “beer summit” at the White House for purely political cover reasons) and the Trayvon Martin case where Obama, while the case was still in its early stages, said that if he had a son he would want him to be like Trayvon Martin, a comment he never should have made and what makes it worse here in both cases is that he is a graduate of Harvard Law School. And these are only a handful of Obama’s gaffes (yet another example are the many errors in that disgraceful speech he gave in June of 2009 in Cairo in his brownnosing attempt to laud Islam) but, of course, in full liberal hypocrisy and double standard mode, only conservatives are held responsible for when they get something wrong, only conservatives are stupid, only conservatives are bigots, etc.
Sick of this rot, sick of this double standard. Those liberals who are a throwback to Harry Truman-type liberalism ( a disappearing breed to be sure) should be too.
Mo says
@ Wellington
“Bachmann made some gaffe, Mo, a few years ago about Lexington and Concord being in New Hampshire rather than Massachusetts.”
Oh, so that was her horrible crime. Thanks. But as pointed out, the man Obama has made endless errors of misspeaking on something, with never a word said about it.
“Sick of this rot, sick of this double standard.”
You and me both.
Jay Boo says
Good points, Wellington
Spoken in the Austrian language I would say,
“Das ist gut”.
gravenimage says
I’m sick of the double standards, as well. Yes, she made a gaff—but this was simple ignorance, and while it was a bit embarrassing, there was nothing substantive in this error, nor was it truly harmful in any way.
Anyone who does enough public speaking is bound to make errors of this sort, no matter how knowledgeable they might be.
Some of the Obama errors have been quite similar—but some, as you note, have been quite a bit more troubling.
And yet the media continues to treat him as a giant of erudition—all evidence to the contrary.

Yes, Obama does know how to dance, that is all he does, around and around always skirting the substantive core. The Honorable Ms. Bachman has been clear accurate and succinct. Politico doesn’t have the tenacity to fire it’s own however perhaps with the promise of a law suit they will print in all their forums a retraction in nice bold letters and print exactly what was said by printing a copy of her speech. I don’t know if it will help here safety because these looney tunes are still trying to snuff out the life of the Danish cartoonist and the Iranian author from 1985 circa. It would help if we weren’t selling the old UK Whimpys out of the WH. At this time the enemy is sufficiently comfortable with us. We even have a President who announces what military actions we will and will not take against them.
Thank you Representative Bachman for standing up for all of us and I am sure that every G-d fearing American prays no harm will ever come to you!

Problem: the Muslim Brotherhood are the true decision makers in the W.H.
Solution: remove the traitors out of office.

Put her on The List.
The List that every sane Islamoaware citizen of every majority-non-Muslim country should be compiling: the List of incumbent – or of aspiring – politicians, at every level – local, provincial/ regional/ state, federal if you have a federal system – who have shown signs that they have some idea about the war we’re in (which we – all kuffar everywhere – have been in since the 6th/ 7th century AD).
Then, since she is American, it is up to US jihadwatchers to get behind her and PUSH.
Pile on the support. Ring, write, send postcards, letters. Donate to her campaign fund. ESPECIALLY you’re one of her lucky / discerning constituents.
Supply her with ammo; she still needs to fine-tune her approach a bit, get a bit more clarity. Good books to send her: Sam Solomon “The Mosque and Its Role in Society” and “Al Hijra: The Islamic Doctrine of Immigration”, and Mark Durie, “The Third Choice: Islam, Dhimmitude and Freedom”. Plus the Barnabas Fund booklet on sharia, “What is Sharia?”
There are two classic articles that should be sent to her as well, and that should also be placed – repeatedly – on the desk of every Infidel politician in the English-speaking world. Their constituents should be *demanding* that they read. Both were written prior to September 11. One in 1994, one in 1995. I’ll supply links here: please, if you haven’t heard of them, click, read, then **make your own copy to your hard disk** so you can print off hardcopy for distribution as seems good to you. They’re good because they are clear, a quick read, totally accurate, and sum up the problem in a nutshell.
Conor Cruise O’Brien: “The Lesson of Algeria: Islam is Indivisible”. Friday 6 January 1995.
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/the-lesson-of-algeria-islam-is-indivisible-1566770.html
Here’s how he starts, getting right down to tin tacks:
““Fundamentalist Islam” is a misnomer which dulls our perceptions in a dangerous way.
“**It does so by implying that there is some other kind of Islam, which is well disposed to those who reject the Koran. There isn’t.** {my emphasis – dda}.
“Islam is a universalist, triumphalist and political religion. It claims de jure dominion over all humanity; that is God’s will. The actual state of affairs, with unbelievers of various sorts dominating most of the world, is a suspension of God’s will and a scandal to the faithful. The world is divided between the House of Islam and the House of War, meaning the rest of us….”.
A bit more:
“The Prophet Mohamed did not offer his followers a chance to live in harmony with their neighbours. He taught them to fight their neighbours, if they were unbelievers, and kill them or beat them into submission.
“And it is futile to say of those Muslims who faithfully follow those teachings today that their actions are “not intrinsically related to Islam”…”. END QUOTE
Note bene – he said *that* in *1995*!!
Read it all, if you haven’t before. It’s *brilliant*. Says it all. Everything that any politician, general or diplomat needs to know.
And, in more detail and with lots of scholarly footnotes, but essentially boiling down to the same thing, a wonderful essay by one Patrick L Moore, entitled “From Cold War to ‘Guerra Fria'”, from 1994.

FROM “COLD WAR” TO GUERRA FRIA?
Patrick L. Moore
Read it, please, if you haven’t before. Print it off; and send it, with a covering note, to *your* elected representative, ASAP. Wherever you are. If you live in a non-English-speaking country: *translate it*!
The other thing that Bachmann and all other politicians need to do is to read Raymond Ibrahim’s series of classic articles on Islamic deception. He published an article awhile ago called “How Taqiyya Alters Islam’s Rules of War”, and then followed it up with a number of others refining and reiterating the necessary points, with references.
Now, back to Bachmann.
How does she relate to ACT for America? – get in touch with them, find out if they’ve had dealings with her.
And, wouldn’t it be nice if the Patriot bikers – Vietnam vets, I understand? – could see their way to attending public occasions at which she will be present. Just to back up that government security detail.
Imagine her and Lieut-Col (ret) Allen West as a leadership team….The Dream Team ….the jihadis would be screaming and running to hide in holes…Iran’s little nuke project would be a series of enormous smoking holes in the ground so fast the mullahs would still be wondering what had happened.
Hey, even non-Yankee kuffar can dream of seeing what I think of now as The Madness of Uncle Sam swept away like a bad dream, and the sign going up on the White House and the Capitol: “Under New Management”.
