My latest in PJ Media, on the ongoing train wreck that is contemporary Britain:
Last May, I wrote an article titled “The 5 Latest Signs of Britain’s Imminent Demise.” These were, unfortunately, not anomalies. In Britain these days, galloping toward ruin is a more popular sport than soccer, and so an update is in order. Here are ten of the latest indications that Britons can look forward to a society that is both more authoritarian and more dangerous than any free nation can long endure.
10. Another British Muslim killed fighting for Islamic State
It was revealed last Tuesday that a British jihadist who called himself Abu Abdullah al-Britani had been killed while fighting in Syria for the Islamic State. Al-Britani, a convert to Islam whose birth name was William Hasmou Clinic, was the eighth Muslim from Britain to be killed while fighting for the Islamic State.
Britain is not alone in this. Well over a thousand Muslims from the West have traveled to Syria and Iraq to join the Islamic State. And like their counterparts elsewhere in the West, British authorities are engaging in absolutely no reflection about why so many young people in their country are converting to Islam. Nor do these authorities seem curious about why so many of these converts come to an understanding of Islam that they themselves have branded as un-Islamic and completely contrary to the true Islamic faith.
Where did William Hasmou Clinic learn about Islam? Was he “radicalized on the Internet”? If so, why did he so readily accept what he read there and discard the peaceful, tolerant Islamic teachings that British authorities assume that he learned at his local mosque? And if he didn’t learn peaceful, tolerant teachings at his local mosque, is that mosque being monitored? Or would that be “Islamophobic” in Insane Britannia?
9. British Muslim chemistry teacher pleads guilty to attempting to join the Islamic State
Jamshed Javeed was a chemistry teacher at Sharples School in Bolton. According to the BBC, he is said,
to have become rapidly radicalised from living an ordinary Western lifestyle to becoming someone determined to fight in the Middle East, having changed his appearance and behaviour from August 2013.
Those who knew Javeed describe him as an “intelligent, well-educated family man.” British officials, however, seem determined to ignore the real reasons why people like him become “rapidly radicalised.” And the problem is much larger than most would probably like to think:
8. One in seven young “Britons” has “warm feelings” for the Islamic State
Britain’s problem isn’t limited to the young Muslims who go fight for the Islamic State. A new poll has revealed that “one in seven young British adults has ‘warm feelings’ towards Islamic State.”
These young “Britons,” if they have “warm feelings” toward the Islamic State, don’t have any allegiance to the British state, and are likely in the future to try to make Britain over to be more like the Islamic State. They may not have to work very hard at that, however —the current British government is already doing all it can to smooth their path.
7. UK government to aid jihadis returning from Islamic State if they have “good intentions”
William Hague, the Conservative leader of the House of Commons, announced that his government was ready to aid British jihadis returning from the Islamic State if they had “good intentions.” Some of the returning jihadis, Hague said compassionately, will “just need help because they will have been through an extremely traumatic period.” The full force of the British welfare state stood ready:
We haven’t had a lot of people coming back yet and saying they want to be of assistance, but if they do of course the government, the police, the National Health Service will work with those people and help them to recover and to assist others.
Hague would doubtless consider it “Islamophobic” to point out that Muhammad said, “War is deceit” (Bukhari 4.52.269). The prophet of Islam is also recorded as saying that lying was permissible “in battle” (Muslim 6303). So if deceit is permissible, according to Muhammad himself, in times of battle and war, and the Islamic State considers itself to be at war with Britain, then how will Hague and the rest determine whether or not they are being deceived by a jihadi who is only feigning “good intentions”? Since they are sure that Islam is a religion of peace and would denounce as “racist” any idea that its prophet actually sanctions deceit, they are unlikely to consider this question adequately.
6. Libyan soldier blames Brits for sex attacks by Libyan cadets in UK: “They didn’t tell us…what’s the difference between right and wrong here.”
About 300 Libyan army cadets who were training in Britain have just been sent home after allegations that they had committed multiple rapes and sexual assaults of non-Muslim girls in the neighborhoods near their barracks.
Omar Al-Mukhtar, a Libyan cadet who was not accused of involvement in these assaults, blamed British authorities: “They didn’t tell us about British law and what’s the difference between right and wrong here.”
Back home in Libya, infidel women are fair game, as per the Qur’an. According to Islamic law, Muslim men can take “captives of the right hand” (Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 33:50) – that is, infidel sex slaves. The Qur’an says: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war” (33:50). 4:3 and 4:24 extend this privilege to Muslim men in general. “The believers must (eventually) win through, those who humble themselves in their prayers; who avoid vain talk; who are active in deeds of charity; who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess, for (in their case) they are free from blame” (Qur’an 23:1-6).
The British authorities should have told the Libyan cadets that in Britain, the Qur’an verses that allow for the capture and use of infidel women as sex slaves are not to be acted upon. But to have told them that would have been “bigoted.”5. Prince Charles appeals to Muslim leaders “to ensure that people within their own tradition respect people from other faith traditions”
The willful ignorance about Islamic doctrines is pandemic among British authorities. The prince of Wales on Wednesday released a video asking Muslim leaders to stop the Muslim persecution of Christians. He didn’t put it that way, of course. Rather, Charles appeared to be trying to remind Muslim leaders of what he believed to be core tenets of Islam. “It is an indescribable tragedy,” he said, “that Christianity is now under such threat in the Middle East – an area where Christians have lived for 2,000 years, and across which Islam spread in 700AD, with people of different faiths living together peaceably for centuries.”
Charles added that “religious faith is all the more convincing to those outside the faith when it is expressed with humility and compassion, giving space to others, whatever their beliefs.” He gently reminded Muslims that “faith leaders have, it seems to me, a responsibility to ensure that people within their own tradition respect people from other faith traditions.”
This plea stemmed from Charles’ willful ignorance about the faith that tells believers to be “merciful to one another but harsh to unbelievers” (Qur’an 48:29). In saying that Muslims and Christians lived in peace and harmony for centuries, he almost certainly had no idea of the oppression and depredations of dhimmitude.
In making this video, he was expecting a reaction that he won’t get — and when he doesn’t get it, he won’t even notice. The Muslim leaders with whom he is in contact will condemn the persecution of Christians, do nothing to stop it or reform the Islamic doctrines that give rise to it, and that will be that.
This willful ignorance is not limited to Charles. Everyone in power in Britain shares it.4. New UK law would ban critics of Sharia from broadcasting, protesting or even posting messages on Facebook
And if the Cameron government gets its way, every last person in Britain will soon share it – or else. Home Secretary Theresa May has announced new “Extremism Disruption Orders,” which would empower the British government to prevent people from broadcasting, holding public rallies, or even posting on Facebook and Twitter if they promoted “extremism.” Chancellor George Osborne emphasized that the new orders were designed to “eliminate extremism in all its forms” – including the justification of “hatred” against a particular religion.
Critics of the proposal have pointed out that this would criminalize criticism of Sharia, even in its most oppressive aspects – the stonings, amputations, and denial of equal rights to women and non-Muslims.
If this becomes law, Britain is finished as a free nation. As the law would also forbid opposition to gay marriage, it would be interesting to see what would happen if a proponent of Sharia protested against gay marriage — but Muslim groups are largely for it, since it opens the door to the legalization of polygamy.
Future free historians, if this becomes law, will look back at David Cameron and Theresa May as essentially saboteurs and traitors who administered the coup de grace to their own nation as a free society. If Britain were still a sane society, as soon as this law was suggested there would have been a no-confidence vote and the Conservative government would have fallen — followed by the arrest of Cameron and May and criminal proceedings against them.
Instead, Britain appears prepared to go quietly, although civil war still very likely looms in its future. And the criminalization of criticism of Islam is already de facto in place:…
