In Truth Revolt today I discuss the persecution of Christians and an important new book by Michael Coren:
Last week, Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow, wrote a letter to Himari Hussain, the President of Pakistan, asking that he pardon Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who has been condemned to death on charges of blasphemy against Islam.
“It would be an irreparable loss for her family, her near and dear” if she were put to death, Kirill wrote, and would “cause a great damage to the Muslim-Christian dialogue and could also aggravate tension between Christians and Muslims both in Pakistan and in the entire world.”
The bitter irony is that the chimera of Muslim-Christian dialogue is what has kept all too many Christian leaders in the West from speaking out against the ever-growing horror of Muslim persecution of Christians worldwide. In his brief but thorough new book, Hatred: Islam’s War on Christianity, Michael Coren lays out the whole gruesome and dreadful story: how Islamic law mandates second-class status for Christians and an ongoing, legally sanctioned level of harassment and persecution; how Muslims who persecute Christians today are scrupulously following these directives, which are considered to be the law of Allah himself; and how Christians today are suffering levels of persecution not seen since the days when Christianity was a despised and outlawed sect in the Roman Empire – and in some cases, contemporary Muslims make the ancient Romans look like tolerant multiculturalists.
Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, Africa and elsewhere – virtually everywhere that Christians live among Muslims today, Coren shows in Hatred that Muslims are persecuting their Christian neighbors. In Syria and Iraq, Coren details how this persecution has reached such a level that Christian communities that have lived in those countries since the time of Christ have been completely decimated – killed, forcibly converted, or driven into exile – and are likely never to return.
Arguably just as horrifying as the accounts of this persecution, however, is the information Coren includes about how Christian leaders in the West have reacted to this persecution. While Christian leaders reach out in friendship and call for dialogue with Muslims, Coren writes, “there is simply no genuine reciprocity. Those Muslim leaders who are brave enough to call for similar dialogue and compromise tend to speak for small and generally fringe Islamic communities, and they are usually ignored or even condemned by the greater Muslim world when they do speak out in such a way. Beyond words, however, are actions, and the chronic persecution of Christians in the Muslim world, the implementation of sharia law, and the use of blasphemy legislation show that there is no commitment on the part of Islam to reshape its relationship with Christianity.”
Yet despite how obvious this is, all too many Christian leaders cling to the false hope of “dialogue” to such an extent that they hesitate even to say anything in defense of their persecuted brethren. Patriarch Kirill is one of the few exceptions to this, and is singular among major Christian leaders in taking notice of Asia Bibi’s plight. Last January, Asia Bibi appealed to Pope Francis. To the best of my knowledge, she got no answer from him at all.
This is, of course, the same Pope Francis who has written that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence” – a statement that Coren characterizes as “optimistic to the point of absurdity or even irresponsibility.” That optimism may have led to the Pope’s silence regarding Asia Bibi – perhaps he was confident that the Muslims in Pakistan who were aware that the Qur’an taught peace and non-violence would soon free the poor woman without need for any intervention from him.
That same optimism led the Roman Catholic Bishop of Worcester, Massachusetts, Robert McManus, to bar me from speaking about Muslim persecution of Christians at a 2013 conference in his diocese. McManus explained that “Mr. Spencer’s talk about extreme, militant Islamists and the atrocities that they have perpetrated globally might undercut the positive achievements that we Catholics have attained in our inter-religious dialogue with devout Muslims.”
Yet what good is all this “dialogue” if it does nothing to bring an end to the persecution of Christians Coren so harrowingly describes in Hatred?
If the Church and Christianity survive today’s jihad against them with any significant presence anywhere on earth, many of today’s Christian leaders will be judged very harshly by future generations of those holding the faith they are supposed to be protecting and defending. They are as far from the Christian leaders who became saints and martyrs in the times of persecution as it is humanly possible to be.
And in our day, as Michael Coren shows in Hatred, new saints and martyrs are being made every day. They deserve better than what they have gotten so far from their Western coreligionists. We may hope that Coren’s book will be a catalyst to bring them the recognition they deserve, and the persecuted Church in Muslim countries the help it needs to survive.

Cultural Marxists see ‘all religions as basically the same’, so they are willing to throw all religions under the bus…except for Islam!
Why they have a partiality for Islam is clear: Islam is helping to destroy the other religions. The Leftards will ultimately betray their Muslim henchman and save their betrayal for last.
The arch-enemy for Leftards is Christianity which is the cornerstone of European culture. The destruction of European culture is the goal of cultural Marxists.
mortimer says
Because Pope Francis is friendly to the cultural Marxist side of the Church, he is able to avoid the conclusion that Islam teaches warfare against the disbelievers as Islam’s prime directive.

As a former left tard myself – there are two reasons I can think of why Islam is given a faux pas and favourably compared to Christianity by the ignorant.
1.) Those useless militant atheist types are too busy focusing on the perceived “evils” of Christianity to bother paying attention to any other faith. It doesn’t help that they buy into the Taqiyya of apologists. Toss in some white guilt and you have what you see today.
2.) Islam is from a vastly different culture than our own. In the Left tards mind, that means it is not only equal – but better. To a Left tard, the West is evil and anything foreign is good. Also. Chuck in some more white guilt and there you go.

the treatment of islam is the only real beef I have with my Church. In Germany I pay Church Tax, collected for the churches by the tax authorities. It is thousands of euros and every year I am tempted to opt out and instead give my money to charities run by Catholics.
Please check out the Barnabas Fund: it helps persecuted Christians. It is run by Patrick Sookdheo who has written the best book about Global Jihad that I have ever read. He is an amazing scholar and wonderful person.

To my mind, this is THE question that every Catholic needs to be asking themselves today. Why are our Catholic bishops and priests so VERY reluctant to say ANYTHING in defense of our persecuted brethren around the world? There is almost NEVER anything said from the pulpit or elsewhere by them. All we ever hear [at best in the “petitions” AFTER the homily, not in the homily] are vague condemnations of “violence” and “wars” and prayers for “those who are persecuted”. They need to NAME NAMES. Just say it: CHRISTIANS are suffering horribly at the hands of MUSLIMS. They should speak the truth plainly and not hide behind euphemisms and generalities.
I think Michael Coren and Robert Spencer are correct to point to the problem of Catholic prelates forever seeking “dialogue” with Muslims. That is true. But I would add that this seeking for dialogue is merely a fig leaf, a mask, for the twin vices of laziness and cowardice. Just say it: Catholic priests and bishops today are, on the whole, too lazy and cowardly to face up to the threat that Islam poses. They’re not so stupid as to not KNOW what is going on; the news is everywhere nowadays and plain to see. But when they hear the news of the bitter persecution of Christians the world over, they consent to laziness and cowardice and burrow themselves in behind easy platitudes and lies about “interfaith dialogue”. That’s all absolute NONSENSE and they know it. And, to add to their shame, they actively SILENCE those who would speak up for the persecuted, as the example of Robert being silenced by Bishop McManus clearly demonstrates. It is an absolute disgrace, I say.
Salah says

I, too, was silenced for speaking out about the atrocities committed by Islam. I lost a brother and two cousins to these fanatics and spoke about it and received numerous email attacks branding me an Islamophobe. There are at least three reasons why the Catholic Church panders to Islam. First, there is a culture of denial among the clergy about the true history of Islam. That denial is evident not only in the Catechism of the Catholic Church but in the very pro-Islamic curriculum of Catholic colleges, seminaries and other institutions of learning. Moreover, while Islamic madrassas teach young Muslims to hate Christianity and the West, I am unaware of any parish that even includes the teaching of Islam in its faith formation classes inspite of the fact that as Gibbons wrote “Islam was founded on the ashes of Rome;” (Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire) in spite of the fact that Islam once controlled two thirds of Christendom and that of the five Christian Patriachates (Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria, Constantinople) only Rome escaped Islam’s clutches (you can understand prevailing Muslim obsession with capturing Rome); and even then it was only by the grace of God that the Eternal City was not taken; that indeed Muslims had attacked and pillaged Rome in the past and for over two centuries they controlled southern Italy and the Popes had to pay them tribute to prevent the destruction of the city. Second, Catholic clergy employ a false exegesis that presents Christ as a “pacifist” “turn the other cheek” spiritual revolutionary who would not hurt a fly even in self defense. Unfortunately, that is selective Bible reading. After all the same Jesus also told his disciples before he was arrested: “When I sent you forth without a money bag or a sack of sandals, were you in need of anything? No, nothing, they replied. He said to them, But now one who has a money bag should take it, and likewise a sack, and one who does not have a sword should sell his cloak and buy one…And they said, Look, there are two swords here. But he replied, it is enough” (Luke 22:35-38) Such biased interpretation ignores the fact the the disciples, like all Jewish men, carried swords for it was a part of their culture. To reduce Christianity to a pacifist faith is not only unbiblical, it also contradicts 2000 years of the church’s just war theory as well as the ancient Judeo.Christian doctrine of the right of self defense. Thirdly and perhaps most importantly, like the mainstream media, Fear of Muslim violence prevents the church from speaking out against Islamic atrocities. Most Catholics- clergy and laity- are afraid of threats from Muslim fanatics and even of fatwas being placed on them; they love their lives and do not want to be martyrs; they do not want to go to heaven- not yet. Moreover, the Vatican is often afraid to speak out because it could trigger attacks against its many nunciatures (embassies) and Catholic institutions in Muslim countries. You remember some Catholic religious were murdered after Pope Benedict condemned violence in the name of religion at Regensburg university. Even then the church’s unwillingness to confront radical Islam shows that it has lost its “mojo;” it is only a part of its weakness and readiness to “bow” to other corrupting influences of modern culture.

MUSLIM COUNTRIES – SECULR STATE, THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR JUSTCE, TO BE! :
Without the abolition of Islam based political system/State Islam, and it’s replacement by a secular constitution, totalitarian Muslim laws’ supremacy will unavoidably continue to strick and make millions of victims among Muslim citizens, just as it did for 1400 years. Nothing really new today regarding the killing of the citizens who changed religion, or those who condemned any one of these barbaric laws, as well as old Christian, Buddhists, Hindus and other religious minorities. But surely the moral duty is to always and systematically condemn, as the suffering of people is daily suffering that never end.
Only and Only a Secular State/Constitution can, (in any given Muslim country) allow Justice, Democracy, and Freedom, included religious Freedoms.
Every single Islamo-political group, what ever it’ Islamic belief/school or its political brand, with NO exception, is an Islamo-fascist political group, because IT IS following Quranic laws. And every local pro-secular state, pro-democracy group, party or organisation etc. must counter them in a very open way, a strong way,
Honest Westerners do condemn BOTH the current Islamic Political system/State Islam that harms all Muslim countries and citizens, as well as the new Islamo-political groups/fighters who want o replace these current rulers. — but unfortunately Western opportunistic propagandists and political interests lobbyists of all kind are currently working hard to help some, to achieve that disastrous “moderate” Islamo-Fascis states, as a new order in the Muslim world, instead of the so needed SECUALR STATE.
While they are for many raisons weaker, millions of Secular Muslims do not agree — So wars are in the horizons of many Muslim countries right now, beside those who are already at war.

How culturally enriched we are due to the relentless appeasement efforts of all of those the progressive, fence-leaning, “Christian” leaders. Asia Bibi in Pakistan and Pastor Saeed in Iran, of course, are two cases among literally thousands of cases of Muslim persecution of Christians around the world, INCLUDING IN THE U.S. Remember the two Evangelical Christians who attempted to preach the Gospel at the Arab Festival in Dearborn, Michigan a few years ago? They were assaulted by the Muslims and arrested by the Islamic police in Dearborn. No charges were ever filed against the Muslim assaulters. Similar situation in Tampa, FL. Many more. The Christian Churches are asleep and are to be faulted.
CogitoErgoSum says
So if it’s not ALL about Islam, than what percentage of total Christian persecution IS fueld by Islam, Christy? You say it’s a disproportional share … but just what is the share? Can you provide more detailed information concerning that?
CogitoErgoSum says
Why is my question idiotic? If you are so smart why don’t you answer my question? I did read the entire article but I must have missed the percentages. Do you know them? If not ALL the blame belongs to Islam, then what percentage does? Do you know?
CogitoErgoSum says
Christy, yes, I’ve been looking and I see it is difficult to find anything in terms of percentages. I checked the OpenDoors website and found some information (see link below) expressed in terms of an index (for 2013). North Korea ranks at the top but of the eleven countries listed as most unfriendly to Christians, and most ot them are what I would call Islamic countries. In addition, I don’t see that many North Korean fanatics roaming the world trying to spread atheism or a devotion to their “Dear Leader.” If these non-Muslim perpetrators are so numerous why do the Islamic countries dominate the index? So I still see Islam as a greater threat to Christianity than either North Korea, China or other non-Islamic countries.

3. Dumping of the tainted payload.

Second for your claim that we can’t provide verses from the Quran to support our claims about Islam, I simply tell you this: for every verse talking about peace in the Quran, there are, literally, between eight and ten verses talking about fighting non Muslims, spelling their blood, striking their necks, declaring Jihad on them tell they submit, Halal are their land, material possessions and their wives and daughters, and…… so on!
Secondly, and that’s very important: All four schools of thought in Islam, which the whole Muslim world follow agree that the Meccan, the more violent, Jihad exhorting, blood spelling, necks stricking verses, take precedence over the more peaceful Medina verses!

But the Kingdom of God is within us we are affected by it because the Kingdom of God is based on the Mosaic Law, we fall into its power just as we fall into the power of gravity and the Law does not need to be proved in a court of Law because it is proved in mans heart, believing in a ONE TRUE GOD will not save a person who falls into the power of the Law, it is only in coming to Christ that can happen.
Neither the Church nor Islam can save; it is the Holy Spirit in man that saves, that is CHRIST and the rules that person follows is the commandments, and this brings about a state of mind a Kingdom. Being a murdering Muslim or a murdering Christian or any any other variant of religiosity is no surety of salvation, and any person who performs an act of selfless kindness, (without premeditation or expecting a reward by that i mean a grace must be present ) God will not fail to reward that person even though it may only be a sincere gratitude to a parent.
So you see the Catholic Church in order for itself to remain in the Kingdom must seek peace or it will become subject to the Law itself just as those nations who have allowed their citizens to become radicalized and these in turn move to other countries where they can commit heinous acts of violence in turn fall into the power of the Law for just as all salvation has come to us from the Jews so has the Law, and praise God because he alone exonerates and condemns.

May be, it’s true. But if it is true, that’s more damning to Islam!
If a father of 16 children, who live with him, goes out every now and then in the neighbourhood and beats any child he meets who is not his own.
Could the fact that he is beating his own 16 children regularly be used as a line of defence or an excuse for what he is doing to other children in the neighbourhood?
Actually that’s even worse! It will prove, beyond shadow of doubt, that he is gravely sick mentally, in addition to being considered a serial criminal and pure evil!!
How hilariously laughable to go even further, needlessly, in discussing whether he beated 20, 18, 16 or 14 other children in the neighbourhood, last week, given the fact that he had already beaten his own 16 children in that same week!

When the Catholic Church speaks of Dialogue it does not speak to Jihadi’s it tries to speak to those who claim Islamic Authority, it does not begin by quoting dogma as all that has to be laid aside, and still there has been NO dialogue, the most recent claim of dialogue was this week where Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan, co-ordinator of the Muslim side, was unable to attend the event for health reasons.

We must ask has the time of the gentiles come to and end, because if grace is now deferred then the Law still stands and whereas different confessions of faith fall short of the Torah and of Christ the Law brings judgement through which there is no partiality and no higher authority to intercede.

Thus the communist countries could quietly proceed for years persecuting the catholic faithfuls with not any protest coming from Rome: Mgr Mindszenty, the primate of Hungary was the most eminent victim sacrified by Paul VI on the altar of “dialogue” with the commies.

You have a good point about other sources of violence against Christians, however, this anti-christian animus (love the term) is ONLY called for, codified and approved of in Islam. No one elses scriptures, if they have them, call for the destruction of all Jews and Christians. Islam is the driving force of violence and persecution throughout the world.
