UK: Teachers “scared to teach about Jesus” for fear of offending Muslims

Nov 29, 2014 10:26 am By Robert Spencer

1-the-nativity-scene-gino-rigucciThis article speaks only of the fear of offending “those of other faiths,” but when Bolton starts talking about how Christianity must be taught so as to aid the integration of new immigrants, it is clear that he is talking about Muslims, as no one is worried about the low rate of “integration” of any other group.

So what we have here are British teachers readily discarding their own culture and heritage for a watery and content-free multiculturalism that will, in the end, only pave the way for the takeover of Britain by those who still have confidence in their own beliefs, traditions and culture. Those who are proud to be British and interested in exploring what that means are derided as “racists.” Britain, in short, is a spent force, and is doomed to a future of blood and chaos.

“Teachers ‘scared to teach about Jesus’: Fear of offending other faiths prevents children1 [sic] learning true meaning of Christmas, BBC presenter claims,” by Sarah Harris, Daily Mail, November 29, 2014:

Fear of ‘offending’ different faiths means pupils are not being taught the true meaning of Christmas in schools, according to a BBC presenter.

Roger Bolton, of Radio 4’s Feedback programme, said that some secular teachers are also ‘unsympathetic to religious education’.

As a result, many pupils are not learning the crucial fact that Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus.

A lack of understanding of Christianity is also preventing youngsters from gaining a proper understanding of religious imagery in literature and drama as well as European art.

This ‘ignorance’ in schools is being compounded by broadcasters’ reluctance to tackle ‘faith issues’ in children’s programmes.

Mr Bolton, who previously presented Sunday, Radio 4’s main programme for religious news and current affairs, condemned the trend in a ‘viewpoint’ piece written for this weeks Radio Times.

He said the Band Aid single, Do They Know It’s Christmas? would be better renamed for school children as ‘Do They Know What Christmas Is?’

He said: ‘Older readers might think this is a redundant question, but I’m afraid it’s not.

‘In some schools in this country, little is taught about the true meaning of Christmas, possibly because secular staff are unsympathetic to religious education or because of the fear of offending those of other faiths.

‘And broadcasters aren’t doing much to remedy this ignorance. It is difficult to find any children’s programmes that regularly deal with faith issues.’

Mr Bolton said there were ‘exceptions’ such as On Angel’s Wings, a BBC1 animation this Christmas, which is based on War Horse author, Michael Morpurgo’ s picture book.

It tells the Christmas story from the point of view of a young shepherd boy.

‘But there is little else in prospect, and the consequences of this lack of coverage are becoming evident,’ he said.

The presenter pointed to a Bible Society survey published earlier this year that claimed a quarter of children had ‘never read, seen or heard of Noah’s Ark’.

A similar proportion was ignorant of the Nativity; 43 per cent had never heard of the Crucifixion, and 53 per cent had ‘never read, seen or heard’ of Joseph and his coat of many colours.

Mr Bolton wrote: ‘Does this matter? I think it does, for both cultural and communal reasons.

‘The United Kingdom cannot be understood without appreciating the role Christian culture has played in its development, from the introduction of the parish system to the replacement of a monarch (James II) because he was a Roman Catholic.

‘In the time of Henry VIII what one believed about the doctrine of ‘transubstantiation’ was literally a matter of life and death.

‘Our 17th-century Civil War was fought in large part over the doctrine of the Divine Right of Kings.

‘Without a knowledge of Christianity, what will our schoolchildren make of much of our finest literature and drama, filled as it is with Christian imagery? Or much of the finest European art?’

He added: ‘It is also vital that children of other faiths learn about Christmas. How can they begin to integrate into our country if they know little of the faith still at its heart?

‘Of course, the reverse applies, too. How can they feel welcome in this country if we make no real effort to understand what is often the most important thing to them and their families – their faiths?’…

And that means that what is most likely to come out of this is more state school teaching about…Islam.

Sick. And we still wonder why Muslims are so confident. They must see multiculturalism as a gift from Allah and a clear sign that the infidels are ready to be converted or enslaved.

Graham, I think you missed the point of the article.

I’m an American atheist, but I know a lot about the Bible. The culture of the West has been profoundly infused not only with the legacy of the Greeks and Romans, but also with Judaism and Christianity. Our art and literature is rich with references to Biblical stories. To lack knowledge of the Bible and the 2 religions it supports is to be *culturally illiterate* and to lack a huge component that allows a person to understand history.

It doesn’t matter, in this respect, whether people believe in those religions anymore or not. They are part of our cultural heritage and are forever entwined with our past and how we got to where we are today. Lose knowledge of those things, go ignorant of our past, and our future will belong to someone else. It will belong to anyone who makes stuff up about our history in order to manipulate us to where they want us to go.

Mister Buffster, I’m sort of surprised your post appeared.

Religious fruitcakes live in convoluted denial. And religious education leads to justification of intellectual intolerance. Someone’s distaste for erudite atheism has inspired rejections in the past.

One can tolerate teenage Muslims posting misspelled obscenities, or one can accept the censorship. I reject censorship.

Of Christianity, only two things should be said in the secular environs. He was and is the Incarnate Word, and the second person of the Blessed Trinity, the Son of God. Those who believe the above are known as Christians.

God’s word is considered “hate literature” and will soon be replaced by the koran.

I am ashamed, not of Christ’s words, but of this adulterous and sinful generation.

This is why many schools in the US no longer make any reference to Christmas- they use the generic term ‘holiday’- they don’t want ti offend leftist atheists or Muslims. School extbooks are now being fulled with pro Muslim propaganda

The ACLU hates Christianity and made it a life goal to rid the country of it. Thus can’t mention Christmas. However, Islam can be mentioned and its holidays. Muslims can pray in public schools. The ACLU does not take issue with Islam and it would be a good article to know exactly why they are not going after Common Core. Even they have to realize that Islam would not fit in any New World Order.

If the school system is so determined to scrub Christianity from text books and curriculum, then parents themselves MUST take the initiative to reverse this trend. Complain to the school and school boards. Make some noise, and lots of it!!! Don’t forget there is the option of teaching your own children about Christianity, or better still, send them to Sunday School.

In the Bible (1 Peter 5:8), Christians are told that the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking to devour someone. A male lion walks about the jungle with his head lowered to the ground and roars. The roaring doesn’t kill, but the animals upon which the lion preys, are terrified, not knowing from which direction the lion will spring and run out of cover. The lion has used fear as a very effective weapon to gain his supper. The devil uses fear to do the same thing. He wishes to devour Christians, and so tries different tactics to strike fear into their hearts and make them run from the cover of faith.
The devil is using islam to strike fear. If terrorists weren’t threatening to behead…and other stuff…and rape gangs weren’t walking about like lions seeking and finding young girls, Christians would have less to fear. They need to pray for faith and then even if the government tells them what to teach, they won’t be afraid of what’s coming.

      • Edward says

        Nov 30, 2014 at 5:17 pm

“The devil is using islam to strike fear.” Yes, the devil has declared a full scale Spiritual Warfare!

In Ephesians 6 St. Paul cites it most explicitly: 12 “For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the principalities and the ruling forces who are masters of the darkness in this world, the spirits of evil in the heavens.”

Besides this danger we face….many people discount it…..for if it is a matter unseen it is not manageable!

Immersing oneself with the passages contained in Ephesians 6:10-18 ‘God’s Suit of Armor’
we can use this is useful deterrent if we: 11 “Put on this [spiritual] full ‘Armour of God so as to be able to resist the devil’s tactics.”

This, perhaps if we intercede by our awareness of ‘God’s Suit of Armor’ in our prayers for those that encounter strife in all corners of the world, as suggested by the passage of:

18 “In all your prayer and entreaty keep praying in the Spirit on every possible occasion. Never get tired of staying awake to pray for all God’s holy people” –

Hopingly, will wipe out the mindset of those wanting to do harm. This, by God Graces, of His presently maligned fallen creations, those He has created in His Image! [ALPHA-OMEGA]

(A side-note: I can attest to its effectiveness.)

I suppose only the historians of the future will have enough retrospect to see what caused this apathy and self loathing in the West, this weird disconnect from world history that white people did all the bad and all the brown people are victims of their relentless conquest of the globe. White people have no cultures, no indigenous lands, they popped up out of the ground from Hell itself to scalp an Indian peacefully knitting a AIDS quilt. It sounds too insane for anyone to believe but too many seem to. So they bend over out of this intense guilt, and thus commit cultural and ethnic suicide. It’s not until the rights of the average white male (especially mr hipster pro-palestine starbuck sucking douche) are threatened people will start to really wake up. It’s getting more and more dangerous for white females, but it’s not until it’s the guys start to feel the pinch that action will take, but it will be too late by then.

Public schools are not the place to teach religion.
There is a very thon line between instruction and proselytizing.
The separation of (church and state) is to prevent those that use the opportunity to proselytize one particular faith.
There should be a very clear distinction between education and the teaching of religion to (public school) children for this reason..
Muslim girls should not be allowed to wear hijabs in the public school system either since this is one way that Muslims try to proselytize their religion.

With respect, Jay Boo, I disagree. Firstly, the UK does not have the official separation of church and state that the United States does.

I have a degree in History of Art, and I can assure that there was *no* proselytizing on the part of my professors. But it simply is not possible to understand the history of Western art without exploring the incidents and imagery of Christianity.

The same is true of Western literature, music, and history.

It is, in the end, a common cultural heritage—even for those who are not practicing Christians.

Separation of church and state is very much a Christian concept—”render unto caesar what is caesar’s”. No serious Christians are demanding theocracy.

This is polar opposite to Islam, where there is no separation of mosque and state, and all—Muslims and Infidels—are supposed to live under barbaric Islamic law.

Actually, there should be a separation between school and state, just as there is a separation between religion and state. Every child should have a right to a decent education, but that doesn’t mean the State or business should stick their noses in.curriculum, nor do we need state “school boards,” among our most retarded and barbarian institutions. A thousand flowers should bloom, a thousand pedagogies should grow, and let parents use tax credits to choose any school, so long as the school obeys health and safety laws and doesn’t preach Nazism, Klu-Klux-Klanism, Sharia/Jihad, or other forms of violent sedition. For those for whom tax credits are insufficient — in other words, only for the very poor, school vouchers. No system is perfect, but educational freedom and choice would be far better than the government schooling (“public” schools) we have now. All schools should be independent, not just the “private” schools.

Vindictive??? That’s taqiyya. We are all sorry for those trapped, especially the females, in the murderous Islamic ideology which wants to annihilate Jews and Christians. Google/Read the Surah 9, if you can be objective. Read about the moslem grooming gangs raping over 1400 white girls (infidels). It’s not being against Britain, it’s being against the murderous ideology of Islam. Israel is tiny and surrounded by thousands of miles of hate. Why? Because moslems are taught to never ever have love for anyone else but other moslems, as taught in the unholy book. Thus in the psychopathic murder’s mind, anyone who has any question about him must be beheaded, and that is going on to this day. Again, this is all in the Surah 9, Moammad’s last say on how moslems are suppose to act. That is a real stretch to say Spencer is vindictive, when vindictiveness is inculcated from birth to moslems.

      ……………………………………

Firstly, this article has no reference to Israel in it at all. Secondly, Israel is the *only* country in the Middle East which guarantees religious freedom for all her citizens—Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and other. This is not true of any of the surrounding Muslim countries, where Christians are oppressed and brutalized, and in most cases any known Jew would be butchered outright.

And most saliently re this article: Omar Beddali implies that since Britons helped create modern Israel that they deserve to be too frightened to uphold their cultural heritage and freedom of speech in the face of Muslim violence.

But this latter, of course, has *nothing* to do with support for Israel at all—no Christian living in dhimmitude under Islam is allowed to speak about Christianity at all.

Asia Bibi, in fact, is under sentence of death in Pakistan for daring to admit to her Muslim neighbors that she loves Jesus.

And she is not alone: there are other Christians under death sentences throughout Dar-al-Islam, as well as Christians who are simply murdered by homicidal mobs of his coreligonists.

In most cases, I doubt the subject of Israel even came up…

And he says that daring to mention any of this is vindictive—to the victims.

      What grotesque projection.

UK: Teachers “scared to teach about Jesus” for fear of offending Muslims
    ……………………………….

And why is that? Don’t Muslims say they “respect” Jesus?

What they don’t say, of course, is that that the Muslim “Jesus”—really, “Isa”—is *nothing* like the Christian Jesus. He not a healer or a peacemaker, and his main role in the last days in the Islamic conception is to return to earth to *kill Christians*.

    More:

As a result, many pupils are not learning the crucial fact that Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus.
    ……………………………….

One again, we see the depths of attempts at Muslim censorship. Stating that Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus is not an establishment of Christianity; it is a simple statement of historical fact.

But in just the same way, Muslims do not simply eschew the eating of pork—instead, they have become violent at schools teaching about the existence of pigs. (Please note that I am *not* comparing the two above subjects except in one way—that Muslims want to “Islamoform” to such an extent that *nothing* that is outside Islam may be freely spoken of).

    More:

A lack of understanding of Christianity is also preventing youngsters from gaining a proper understanding of religious imagery in literature and drama as well as European art.
    ……………………………….

Yes—as I noted earlier, Britain and the West cannot be understood without at least a basic understanding of Christianity—art, literature, music, drama, history—and this is exactly what Muslims want, for Westerners to be cut off from their religious, moral, and cultural heritage.

    More:

This ‘ignorance’ in schools is being compounded by broadcasters’ reluctance to tackle ‘faith issues’ in children’s programmes.
    ……………………………….

Yes—this is not just the schools, but a society-wide bowing to pressure from both Muslims and leftists.

    More:

He said the Band Aid single, Do They Know It’s Christmas? would be better renamed for school children as ‘Do They Know What Christmas Is?’

He said: ‘Older readers might think this is a redundant question, but I’m afraid it’s not.
    ……………………………….

Appalling. This so basic—or should be.

    More:

Mr Bolton wrote: ‘Does this matter? I think it does, for both cultural and communal reasons.

‘The United Kingdom cannot be understood without appreciating the role Christian culture has played in its development…
    ……………………………….

This is, of course, exactly what Muslims want; if you cannot understand your own culture, you cannot defend it, or even grasp what is being lost.

Where and when in God’s name did the UK get the bizarre idea that they must be “multicultural”??? They are committing suicide by allowing Muslims into their nation and allowing Muslims to dominate their nation. Muslims want to murder the British and have been doing so for a long time now. Come on UK time to kick them all back to the sandbox…..

The best way to teach Muslims about Jesus is to show them what the Qur’an and the various hadiths had to say about him.
In Islam, Jesus (Isa) is only a prophet, he’s not the Son of God.
O.K. let’s agree with them on this one.
Now, according to the Qur’an and the hadiths, Jesus was Holy, Pure and Sinless.
BUT, according to this same Qur’an and these same hadiths, Muhammad was a SINFUL man.

Then ask Muslims this simple question:
Assuming that Jesus was a mere prophet, would you like to follow a Sinless prophet or a Sinful one?

      A great point!

If the Muslim speaker knew you were going ask the above question beforehand….he would rather refuse your debate with him. Their cynical innate ostrich syndrome is an attribute most Muslims.

Many thanks Salah, for the ‘crossmuslims.blogspot.com link.

You’re right, but things are slowly and surely changing thanks to the freedom of the internet. Many Muslims are starting to realize that Islam is indeed a false religion. And when they do, they urinate on the Qur’an!!!

Pathetic, capitulating Britain! Proscribe islam – then, after a short hiatus, we will at last know peace, sanity and civilisation again – and they will all be back in the slime-pits that they crawled out from

Until the World Leaders and every global citizen begins to stand up against Muslim threats and violent ways we will coward under their power to Kill… This is an evil rising that the world must once again conquer..not by religion but Law.. All religious beliefs belong in the home. Not in our governments, not in our businesses or schools! Why the Muslims deem it necessary to destroy the beliefs or practices of Non-Muslims is beyond me. To each their own! We have a new bully in the sandbox and it is time we teach them a lesson. Threaten to harm another human being and there will be punishment. Harm another human being for their religious beliefs and you will serve the rest of your life in hell be it prison or death. And, if that does not stop the violent nature of radical Muslims then we must start punishing the entire family. Islam is a not a religion of peace, at this time, but it could be if they realized they will never dominate the world especially by fear.

Why would anyone think that Moslems would be offended by hearing about Jesus or Christmas?
Accoriding to Islam, Jesus is the second greatest prophet after Mohammed and He will come judge the world at the end of times. It’s true that they’re mistaken of not believing Him to be the Son of God, but I don’t see why they would be offended by Christmas?
If someone would be offended by Christmas, I think it would be the Jews (according to whom Jesus must have been a false messianic pretender) but not the Moslems…

JRMK, I’m afraid you have much too benign a view of Islam. It isn’t just that the Muslim Jesus—”Isa”—is not the son of God. He is *nothing* like the gentle Jesus of the Gospels. The main role of the Muslim Jesus is to return in the last days and “break the cross and kill the pigs”, which means to do away with dhimmitude—the small, uncertain space under Islam where Christians may practice their faith.

After that, Christians face the choice of conversion to Islam, or death. The main purpose of “Jesus” under Islam is to *kill Christians*.

As for Christmas, this is utterly forbidden. Here is one such Fatwa:

Hook has slung his hook or been censored? I hope not censored.

My people do seem pretty pathetic I agree. But remember so far as I’m aware there’s no sense of ‘collective guilt’. There’s simply misplaced tolerance and yawning apathy as Graham Turner says. Of course Buffster has the appropriate intellectual answer to that. But it doesn’t carry you too far when ‘culture’ begins and ends with an ipad.

Of BF, BNP et al……why oh why can’t they join together? The cause is everything but all they do is fiddle. Of Liberty do they actually have any administration which actually reaches out to members?

Robert…when I write on here what I write is very faint before it’s posted and poor old eyes have difficulty. Is there anything you can do?

    Funny that.

However if some English kids were “offended” by the teaching of homosexuality they would be thrown out and marked for life as homophobes.

Constant recurring evidence that the British system of government is Dhimmified.

It’s not a mystery, Joe. Muslims coming here is a Hijira—they plan to eventually take over. There are lots of Infidels to exploit—and they don’t even have to wait until they are a majority to sponge off the dole, push for Shari’ah law, and rape and rob.
