He said “radical Islamic terrorism,” and he should have said “jihad,” but nonetheless, this is all true, and it needs to be said, and said again.
“BEASTMODE Cruz: You Can’t Defeat Radical Islamic Terrorism if Admin Can’t Utter Those Words,” Washington Free Beacon, December 2, 2014:
Straight-shooter Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Tex.) went BEASTMODE on Obama Tuesday when he called the president out for not calling terrorism what it really is: terrorism.
Cruz noted the Obama administrations reluctance to call the Ft. Hood shootings by Nadal [sic] Hassan a terrorist act, even when it has been established that Hassan was in communication with radical Islamists. The administration simply referred to the shootings as “workplace violence,” Cruz said.
“That is Orwellian doublespeak,” Cruz said. “You cannot win a war on radical Islamic terrorism with an administration unwilling to utter the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’”
Sam says
Thanks TED! It is about time we start calling Islam, Evil Islam which it is.
Shane says
Wow, I am tempted to vote for him just for telling the truth about Islam. Hope he says the same thing during the republican presidential debates! Go get em Ted!
voegelinian says
The truth; but not the whole truth. As Spencer notes, Cruz had to leaven his critique with that annoyingly unnecessary — and recklessly misleading — qualifier “radical”
Tradewinds says
He should have said “Islamic Terrorism” and left out the “radical” which is redundant. Islam is inherently radical, extremist, militant.
pumbar says
I think the word “terrorism” is redundant there too.
mortimer says
Yes, redundant. Islam clearly teaches that the main task of Muslims is to terrorize the disbelievers by fighting them and taking away their civil and human rights.
“Turhibunna” (terrorize them) – K. 8.60
mortimer says
What Islam TEACHES is totally different from what most Muslims actually DO.
Most Muslims are non-observant; they are ‘hypocrites’ who do not conduct warfare against the disbelievers.
voegelinian says
mortimer’s annoyingly unnecessary — and recklessly misleading — asymptotic spasm above is one illustration why our problem is not so much Islam as it is Muslims.
Islam is just a body of ideas; it is Muslims who put it into bloody practice — when they are not mendaciously pretending to be peaceful (and fooling gullible sorts like mortimer).
mortimer’s “hypocritical Muslim” is just the rightly derided Moderate Muslim dressed up in new clothes.
lu says
I very rarely agree with Ted but this time he is spot on! And yes – the term “radical” is superfluous as we all know …
Zebo says
Well,he is not white, therefore he knows he won’t be instantly attacked and crucified by the media when breaking the “never criticize islam-taboo”
But some logical thoughts might be helpful:
Barak is a name used by muslims and jews
Hussein is a 100% muslim name.
Therefore i am not surprised that a guy with two muslim names won’t criticize islam.
The other thing:How is it possible that a (pseudo?)christian has no christian name?
Is there a special exception for Obama?Maybe his favourite priest: cocain dealer Al Sharpton can explain this?
Don McKellar says
Yes, it is time to drop the qualifiers like “radical” which doesn’t make any sense, and ideally he should be calling it what it is: jihad, plain and simple. However, this line of reasoning discourse into the root of the problem should be one of the key signatures of any Republican contender for the White House. Without it, any American would be a fool to vote for them, and their party idiots for nominating them. Indeed, dealing with Islamic jihad needs to be FINALLY addressed honestly and openly and the starting point MUST be to call it what it is, instead of trying to appease moslems and cowering before political correctness over truth and facts.
It must be front and center for ANY candidate. It is the defining topic of US foreign policy for the 21st Century, and Obama’s approach to it has resulted in the most disasterous and botched foreign policy of any administration, perhaps ever. Worse than Carter, by some margin. Even worse that Bush the Idiot! And people said it couldn’t be done!
voegelinian says
“It must be front and center for ANY candidate. It is the defining topic of US foreign policy for the 21st Century”
You’re right, but it’s not going to happen for at least another 25 to 50 years from now. My dismal projection is based not so much on the easily derided “Elites” as it is on the evidently pleasantly asleep masses of Ordinary People out there who, pace a small minority — seem pretty much oblivious to the problem of Muslims (which perforce is joined at the hip with the problem of Islam).
Wellington says
Yes, I know full well that the term “radical Islam” is redundant, but at least certain conservatives in America (like Ted Cruz) are regularly connecting the vast majority of terrorism with Islam, as opposed to connecting it in some mindless pc/mc kind of way (“mindless pc/mc” being yet another redundancy) as the liberal establishment in America continues to do by simply and simplistically referring to “terrorism” or “extremism” or “radicals” or “workplace violence” (yeah, this one’s a real winner, isn’t it?) or…or…or….
I understand the impatience that those who know Islam for the gigantic iniquity which it is have with these halfway measures (e.g., “radical Islam” instead of just “Islam”), but I would argue that it is going to take some time for mankind, and especially those in the West, to fully and finally grasp that the human race got a major religion which is horrible and a pain-in-the-ass to all the world. Revolutionary ideas (and the idea that a major faith is malevolent to its core is quite revolutionary) take a while to settle into the collective consciousness of the body politic. I too am at times quite impatient with this reality, but impatience is as nothing compared to reality. Reality moves on its own time schedule and pays little heed to impatience, which it considers nothing more than an emotional luxury.
What does encourage me above all are two facts: 1) the truth is a very stubborn thing; and 2) there is no way in hell that the millions who have come to despise Islam will decrease over the years; quite the contrary in fact, as disgust with Islam will grow exponentially over the next several decades.
Islam is doomed or mankind as a whole is. There is no reconciling the two in the modern world and, though Islam will die with much blood on its hands, it will eventually die and will be seen as one of the greatest mistakes in the entire history of mankind. Think long term, beyond your own existence, which is as nothing compared to the indefinite future.
Edward says
Islam will implode within……Muslim’s vs Muslim’s… that’s why!
In a chain reaction way!
If dis-unity within continues as it seems….it will vaporize even quicker!
The tenets of the Sunni’s vs the Shiites sects are 180 deg. out of phase!
mortimer says
Sunni’s and Shiites AGREE about 90% of their doctrines.
Don McKellar says
Get on the phone to ISIS, mortimer! Them and a dozen other international terror groups and a bunch of Islamic governments need your wisdom on these matters so they can stop murdering each other over the 10% they don’t agree about!
eduardo odraude says
Wellington, agreed.
Cruz deserves credit simply for saying “Islamic” instead of “Islamist” or some other nonsense. We should notice he’s pushing the envelope and be thankful he’s doing more than most of us are.
I was talking to a sort of leftish person today, and she is one of the nicest people I know. I was struck by the sincerity and strength of her false belief that Israel and the Palestinians are morally equivalent, though she didn’t use that expression. She insisted it’s not a black and white situation. I agreed, and said it’s black and gray. In other words, the Palestinians are mostly moved by a culture that is totalitarian, evil, and insane, while the Israelis have a very imperfect but mostly normal human culture.
She didn’t buy it. But I don’t think any bad motives can be attributed to her. Though she has false views, she’s probably a nicer person than I am, just poorly informed or perhaps not that smart. But her goodness as a person reinforces my view that we need in general to treat people on the Left with more respect. A lot of them are good, well-intentioned people whom we should try to convince. We should not attack them personally.
Wellington says
Many on the Left can be very nice people, though they are invariably ill informed on one matter after another, but quite ironically they think that conservatives are the ones who are ignorant. As William F. Buckley used to say, if you know the facts you’ll be a conservative, but it’s a big “if.” Or, as Margaret Thatcher said, the facts of life are conservative. Still, I agree with you that those on the Left should not be attacked personally unless they are either 1) a jerk or 2) those who engage in highly injurious willful ignorance, which is often the case where Islam is concerned (and I might add that many on the Right are guilty of 2) also—–well, for that matter, some on the Right are guilty of 1) as well).
mortimer says
The Left is good at producing whacko theories contradicted by reality.
voegelinian says
It will take longer, as long as the Counter-Jihad doesn’t push Breibart-style for an end to this nonsense. After all, the Counter-Jihad is composed of a diverse collection of individuals — including ordinary schmucks and Beltway professors and journalists (e.g., Clare Lopez and Diana West) — from all walks of life who (more or less) get it (with a few raggedly asymptotic edges here and there). If we can get it, so can they. We should not be formulating excuses for them, but rather lighting their feet on fire.
P.S. Indeed, the “raggedly asymptotic edges here and there” in the Counter-Jihad I alluded to reflect one major explanation for why the mainstream remains as torpidly retarded on this issue as a frozen slug on December cement — for, it arises from the same PC MC wellsprings.

And Mr. Cruz is right. One can’t speak truth without the right words.

There are way too many Realityophobes to ever elect Cruz. As Julius Caesar once said: “The people love to be deceived”.

Realityophobes ! Love that word!!!

“FACT-O-PHOBES” 😉

Cruz said. “You cannot win a war on radical Islamic terrorism with an administration unwilling to utter the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’”
In other words, we cannot win a war on radical Islamic terrorism with a PC administration.
And since this administration is a PC one, it must go. Right? but how? Ahhh…elections!!!
Unless your are willing and able to elect a Robert Spencer, an Ann Barnhardt or an Allen West for president, you are doomed to elect ANOTHER PC adminstration.
That’s not the way to win any war.
mortimer says
The Left is using Muslims to destroy Western civilization.
John Stefan Obeda says
I myself wonder whether God is going to use Islam to punish many people for their unrepentant sins against His commandments. Maybe He also uses bad weather to get us to sit down and do some serious thinking about ourselves and God’s ways. It is possible for God the Holy Trinity to lose His patience, not so? And at times God did use His own enemies to punish or to wake up His own people, the Israelites in the days of the Old Testament. So, God have mercy on us for the sake of Your Son Whom You delivered up for our offences.

Cruz: You can’t defeat Islamic terrorism if you can’t even utter those words
…………………………………….
Yes, he might have phrased this even better, but this is nonetheless very refreshing to hear. I hope others are listening.
Davegreybeard says
I am listening, graven.
My dream ticket?
Cruz and West.
Darren says
My dream ticket is Joe Biden and Shelia Jackson Lee. I figure since the nation is in terminal decline we mise well have some clowns to laugh at. With the right marketing I could see it happening. Since the majority of the country is more concerned about reality TV and texting if you make the Biden Shelia Jackson Lee campaign trail a reality TV show you will get the reality TV people to vote in force, simply attach the national election vote to a cell phone vote like in American Idol, and boom there is 60 million voters who normally don’t even vote let alone read about politics.

He is right. As posters here know the UK media has many euphemisms to hide the Muslim terror. Send your friends a copy of A Consequence of Apathy by NR Baldwin for Christmas. Lets spread the truth.

When the Obama admin. has expunged the word “Islamic” from all references to terrorism in all U.S. administration documentation, what else can you expect, event tho’ 99% of all terrorist activity around the World is perpetrated by Muslims. The policy of deflect, divert or deny is part of taqiyya doctrine, and he certainly knows how to apply it..
Coolio says
It is not ‘radical’ Islamic Terrorism, it is orthodox Islamic practice.
The English author Theodore Dalrymple comments:
“Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect, and is intended to.”
Bill Coleman says
Good start for Cruz, but my favorite is Allen West. Everyone has a lot of ground to cover if the political and legal battle to stop the advance of Islam is fought and won before there is a bloody civil war or civilizational jihad has eliminated the possibility of political/legal resistance and civil war.

Speaking of euphemisms (despite those who believe Cruz was spot on):
1. The phrase ‘radical Islam’ is NOT a redundancy.
It is a fiction which creates and perpetuates the bogus notion that Islam is available in two separate versions; the ‘religion of peace’ version as practiced—we are told— by the vast majority of the world’s Muslims, and that twisted and perverted interpretation followed by a tiny minority’ of ‘extremists’.
2. Referring to the acts of violence committed by Muslims around the world as ‘terror/terrorism’ instead of jihad removes Islam’s commands and teachings from the general public’s conscience.
I was robbed at gunpoint while working at a convenience store many years ago. And while it was definitely terrifying, the police report properly left no doubt that the event was an armed robbery.
