Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Oklahoma City beheader’s mosque imam claims he has a “certificate of ‘Apostolic Succession'”

Dec 29, 2014 11:05 am By Robert Spencer

islam-imad-enchassi-oklahoma-110410jpg-7fde7c85c785983bApostolic succession is a Christian doctrine: it is the idea that the bishops are successors of the apostles and derive their authority from those apostles. Catholicism and Orthodoxy, as well as the ancient Oriental Churches and some others, hold that only those bishops who hold a valid succession from an apostle have any legitimate authority in the Church.

Apostolic succession is not an Islamic doctrine. Yet Imad Enchassi, the imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City (ISGOC), which the jihad beheader Jah’Keem Yisrael attended, claims to have a “certificate of ‘Apostolic Succession.'” He says his certificate is “earned by a selected few,” but doesn’t say where or how he earned it, or from whom. Which apostle did Imad Enchassi succeed? Where is his see? As far as I know he is not a Christian, much less a bishop, priest or deacon. He mentions this “certificate” in connection with his education, and yet his education is all Islamic. There is no apostolic succession in Islam.

Enchassi is the chairman of Islamic studies and “Chaplin” at Oklahoma City University. (Does he occupy the coveted “Charlie Chaplin” post, earned by a selected few?) He is also an adjunct professor of Islamic studies at both Phillips Theological Seminary and St. Paul School of Theology. Enchassi has received the Interfaith Alliance “Community Service Award,” Hamas-linked CAIR’s “Inspiration Award,” the Dialogue Institute’s “Dialogue Award,” the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice’s “Humanitarian Award,” and the Oklahoma Conference of Churches “Interfaith Award.” He was named a “Visionary in Religious and Education Outreach” in The Daily Oklahoman’s Progress Edition.

Question: if a Christian minister had claimed to have attained “Ayatollah status earned by a selected few,” and had the claim displayed prominently in the bio on his church’s website, do you think he would be teaching Christianity at three schools, and be laden with honors and accorded the respect and deference of the community? I don’t think so, either. So why is the obvious charlatan Imad Enchassi so hailed and celebrated in Oklahoma City? Could it be because he reinforces establishment Leftists’ sense of themselves as broad-minded multiculturalists, and tells them all the soothing deceptions they so desperately want to hear?

“About the Imam: Dr. Imam Imad Enchassi,” Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City (thanks to Mark):

…In 2004, Enchassi made a career move, turning his previous part-time volunteering activities into a full time commitment by becoming the founder and executive director of the Mercy Education Foundation – a multi-million dollar project creating the first accredited Islamic school of Oklahoma City. During that time, he also became the founder, imam and president of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City (ISGOC). In that role, he studied overseas at the Daawa University Institute and the University Institute for Islamic Studies in Lebanon, where he received his bachelors, masters and doctorate degree in Islamic Studies. In addition, he earned a certificate of “Apostolic Succession” earned by a selected few.

Besides being the senior Imam at ISGOC, the chairman of Islamic studies and Chaplin [sic] at Oklahoma City University, an adjunct professor of Islamic studies at both Phillips Theological Seminary and St. Paul School of Theology, Enchassi is also in charge of organizing outreach and curriculum with the Muslim and non-Muslim communities throughout the state of Oklahoma. He is a highly sought after public speaker, and he is regularly booked to address audiences at academic institutions, government functions and interfaith events to offer his expertise in Muslim principles, comparative religions, interfaith dialogue and human rights.

Among much recognition, Enchassi has received the Interfaith Alliance “Community Service Award,” CAIR “Inspiration Award,” Dialogue Institute “Dialogue Award,” Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice “Humanitarian Award,” Oklahoma Conference of Churches “Interfaith Award” and was named a “Visionary in Religious and Education Outreach” in The Daily Oklahoman’s Progress Edition.EnchassiApostolicSuccession

Oh dear Lord…that’s too funny…take it from a traditional (which means …real) Catholic, who knows what Apostolic succession is!

Muslims are so deceived as well as being so deceptive, they really haven’t a clue!

You’ll agree it’s time for all bishops in the apostolic succession to start converting Muslims to a belief in genuine apostolic succession.

    TO ROBERT SPENCER:

Can it be someone so highly informed about islam as yourself does not know that Catholicism IS THE SAME AS ISLAM…Catholicism and islam are fingers on the SAME hand. I am a Jew. I am highly disturbed that NO ONE IN THE “CHRISTIAN” WORLD SEEMS TO HAVE EYES IN THEIR HEAD WHEN IT COMES TO THIS RELGION OF CATHOLICISM AND ALL ITS VARIOUS FORMS…COPTIC, EASTERN ORTHODOX, MORONI, ETC

CATHOLICISM HAS KILLED MORE JEWS THAN ISLAM AND IT WILL DO IT ALL AGAIN ….

CATHOLICISM ALSO STANDS BETWEEN JEWS AND YESHUA AS THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE…CRUSADES, INQUISITIONS AND THE POPE WHO NEVER REFERS TO ISRAEL AS A JEWISH STATE ….ONLY THE “HOLY LAND”

      @ shosh7154.

Excuse me, I am neither Catholic nor Jewish. I am a Protestant believer in Yeshua, as you have so named Him, by his Hebrew name. I take serious issue with you about your concept of Catholicism on the grounds that there are no modern day Catholics running around with machetes and AK-47 assault rifles aimed at Israelis. What took place hundreds of years ago cannot be used as a modern day argument that Catholics hate Jews! That simply doesn’t wash! If you believe that, then you probably also believe that Hitler was a Christian – which he absolutely WAS NOT!

CHRISTIAN IS AS CHRISTIAN DOES! That’s the byword of all true Christians, whether Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant or whatever. Many so-called Christians will find themselves seriously wanting when they stand before the Judge of the Universe! And the same goes for the Jews!

In every argument there are three points of view – the left, the right and the truth. Don’t tell me that my ancestors persecuted the Jews, or the Blacks, or the American ‘Indians’, or anybody else. I have no ax to grind. Our American forefathers set a standard of tolerance toward all faiths in our Constitution. They themselves were a conglomerate of many faiths – including some Jews!

Sadly, it has always been the Muslims who have resisted all attempts at peaceful coexistence. They will NEVER be our friends, and any attempt to have a coherent dialogue with them will always result in a loss to the non-muslim. Don’t compare apples to poisoned mushrooms. Christians have always had their flaws – whatever their official denomination, but muslims HAVE NEVER SOUGHT FOR TRUE PEACE WITH GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE! Muslims HATE Jews because that’s what mohammed taught them to do. Now wouldn’t it just be a real kicker if Christ, being a Jew Himself, would have taught his followers to “go thou and do likewise”.

The crusades was to stop the Islamic caliphate from succeeding…and it certainly did slow it down..As for jews being killed during the crusades it happened because the muslims posed as jews to avoid detection..

Hitler who killed millions of jews is also labeled a Christian..He was not a Christian..He was a muslim and his speeches prove it…His muslim SS soldiers were responsible for the final solution..

    • zebo says

      Dec 29, 2014 at 2:31 pm

      Dude,
while talking about jews-which do you mean exactly??
      Torah jews,Tanakh jews,thalmudic &/or atheist &/or jews,messianic jews or the sabbatenean wanna-be jews

You should be a little bit more precise ,as not all jews consider the catholic church as obstacle as they don’t follow(unlike islam or christianity) the same books and therefore all do not consider catholiscism as obstacle.

Be a little bit more precize or enlighten us with some good links.
I don’t care aboit reliigion therefore think and say whatever you want to say but say it a correct way and not such crap which is siimply wrong.
eg it is very well known that Hitler did not gave a shit about christianity .He was into occult(ariosophy) like jewish cabbalists but this does not make him a jew.
He turned the original sun symbol swastika top down(= dark sun)
Turning symbols top/down is what satanists use to do(eg. pentagramm top down= baphomet symbol)
Considering that Hitler was not a jew and that communism in russia has not just killed 50mio+ people but to 5% of those victims were jewish i would not say that catholicism is no.1 in killing jews.
And you must consider that communism was created by Marx based on works of Moses Hess and initiated by Trotzky:and all three are? Jews.

+don’t forget that muslims are great in killing people and rewriting /censoring history.
They killed 100 mio indians while they occupied india
and they killed several million slavic people
and they enslaved some million white people and some dozen million black people
and most people don’t know that this have happened.

therefore the chance is pretty high that catholiscism isn’t even in the top3.(except you believe in the existing theory that the vatican has created islam-but there is no evidence for this until now)

Personally, after reading your post I believe you have to have a mental defect that distorts how you perceive reality. I am a Catholic and take great offense at your accusations here. Catholics neither hate Jewish people nor do they want to kill them. I personally pray for the protection of Israel and all the Jewish people. This very odd way some Jews look at Christians as if we hate, stalk and plan to kill them is quite disturbing especially when there are Islamists out there who outwardly say they want to wipe all of you off the planet and make no effort to hide that desire. Please, spend your efforts worrying about the ones who have knife pointed at your back and not the ones who would gladly save you.

I mean these people actually stated that they HATED the Catholic Church and their reason? Because of ‘The Rosary’ and-I kid you not-the crucifix. As if having Christ’s body on the cross denied the Resurrection or somesuch.

Anyhow they all went away when I happened to mention I was a 1st Amendment lawyer (!?). But heavens-what an eye-opener. I mean, one expects this from psycho Muslims. But from one’s fellow Christians/Americans?

You are, shosh7154, either a—– 1) liar, or 2) mentally ill, or 3) a Muslim in thin disguise. Overlapping here among 1), 2) and 3) is a real possiblity, in fact it’s somethng approaching a certainty (unless you’re just another pathetic and eternally clueless Western leftist, in which case only 1) and 2) would apply to you).

Your post makes no sense. Also, just for well written English purposes, reduce in big measure, would you, capitalized words. It’s bad form and bad English. Perhaps you could learn AT LEAST THIS MUCH.

Well, shosh7154, I would assert, as others already have, that you are, in effect, a loser. And let me write that again in all capitals——-LOSER. But, please, disabuse us of this conviction if you can, though I doubt you can and I strongly suspect that you will either not reply again, or if you do, it will be just more rubbish material like you’ve already supplied. Really, you’re an adult but aren’t you ashamed that you’ve reached adult status while learning so little in the meantime? Just askin’.

But go ahead, prove us all wrong and, read this closely here you dear shosh7154, provide us an intelligent, informed, cogently argued post, which you haven’t yet done, to put it mildly. It would be most welcomed, I assure you. Your turn, though I doubt you will respond again since your kind are, quite simply, one-hit “wonders” and then they are heard from no more. No wonder, since such one-hit wonders have so very little of substance to convey ih the first place. Such as you.

Why don’t you look to see what G-d says about Catholicism in His word? It is written you shall have no concourse with the dead, you shall have no other gods before ME, you shall not mix worship of idols and worship of ME, there is ONLY ONE MEDIATOR between G-d and man…that Man Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, there is none holy but G-d, all have sinned and fallen short of the Law, Hell (weeping and wailing and grinding of teeth in outer darkness forever in unspeakable loss in fire) is the judgment for all who are not born again by the Spirit of the Most High, there is salvation ONLY IN THE NAME YESHUA (JESUS)…..

Yes, historically, ANY religion that practices proselytization is a problem. Any religion that takes the “convert or die” doctrine is a threat. While the Catholic Church in the past has had a “Convert or die… ok we can’t kill you all so we’ll absorb your beliefs into ours” doctrine, it currently does not.

I just read an article concerning one of your faculty, Imad Enchassi. It states that he has made the claim of having received a certificate of Apostolic Succession. This is highly unlikely as it is part of Christian doctrine, not Islamic doctrine. If what the article claims holds to be true, then OCU is employing someone of dishonest character, which can only reflect poorly on your institution and harm its academic integrity. It would be in the university’s best interest to investigate this matter and take appropriate action if Enchassi did in fact make such a claim.

I would suggest some of you might do the same.

Not being a Catholic, and therefore not believing in the concept of Apostolic Succession, I still am aware that other people who are of the Catholic faith take this concept to heart. But this muslim, full of himself and infection from the bite of the beast of islam, doesn’t know the difference between those who believe in it and those who don’t. He must think he can win over Christians by claiming to be an *apostle* and at the same time, being muslim and leading other blind ones to the pit. Just where did he obtain a *certificate* of being in succession from Christ;s apostles? Were they still alive somewhere on earth…being over two thousand years old by now….handing out the paperwork to show succession…they would have nothing to do with this imam of satan. Certainly he didn’t get his paper from a Catholic leader? Is this claim to help him cover for the teaching that led the follower to behead the poor woman? It certainly makes no sense, whatever.
Such balderdash as this comes from the mind of infection with a terrible malady…that is, the plague of satan. The dragon is the one handing out this *certificate*…making this one certifiable for sure. And I don’t think he’ll convince anyone that he has authority to speak for Christ.

I’m guessing at what he means…mullahs write ‘letters of accreditation’ for other mullahs. It doesn’t mean they are accredited of course, just that they have a letter from other mullahs.

This is how Islam does it. There’s no laying on of hands ceremony or what have you, it’s just a letter that they frame and put on the wall.

A Muslim claiming apostolic succession is weird. But if one accepts the oft stated claim by Muslims, that Jesus was a Muslim, and he will come back and break the cross etc, then the apostles were also Muslim. And from that an imam can claim apostolic succession.

In the meantime Muslims also discovered America, invented mathematics, and most of everything.

Far more likely, Muslims can claim demonic succession, or psychotic succession.

  10. Zebo says

    Dec 29, 2014 at 1:42 pm

    Of course he has!
Didn’t you know that muslims can do and have everything they claim?

    They discorvered cuba(according to erdogan)
They discorvered the US continent and thousands of indians have been muslims(according to erdogan)

Give a muslim the power to rewrite history and within 50 years he will tell you how muslims invented electricity ,the car,the train, the computer and how they landed first on the moon.

    BUT

he may even be right about this apostal stuff because
christians are such dumb islam-asskissers that they even ignore that each and every 100000 are killed by muslims-consiedering this this apostal thing is nothing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the pope would convert to islam and before this happens they will make some muslims bishops etc.

Having attended an Apostolic Church, referred to by some as Pentecostal Light, no other book than the Holy Bible is referenced with the exception of Hymnals. Although an imam my be welcome to attend he would not be invited to speak. The sermons are qualified by at least three corresponding Scriptures and delivered by a Pastor who is known to walk the walk. My advice to anyone associating with the imam is to wear dark sun glasses in case of lightening bolts.

Oklahoma City beheader’s mosque imam claims he has a “certificate of ‘Apostolic Succession’”
    ……………………………

This story shows two things: that Muslims are never content to murder Christians and other Infidels, but want to steal from them, as well; and that when credulous Western Infidels are dealing with “moderate Muslim scholars” that they seldom take pains to ascertain whether they are actually “moderate”, and what quality of scholar they might actually be.

More disturbing than this absurd bit of humbug is *this*:

“OK Beheader’s Imam Defended Muslim Terrorism, Called for Jailing Pamela Geller”

    http://www.frontpagemag.com/2014/dgreenfield/ok-beheaders-imam-defended-muslim-terrorism-called-for-jailing-pamela-geller/

He hates Israel and supports the Jihad against her, and wants to see criticism of Islam criminalized.

Perhaps even more disturbing is this story:

“OK Beheaders’s Imam Claimed Threats to Behead Muslims Days Before Attack”

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2014/09/27/beheader-s-imam-claimed-just-days-before-incident-that-people-were-threatening-to-behead-muslims-and-their-children/

This claim is so profoundly odd, and so specific, that I doubt it can be pure coincidence, and it strongly implies that he may have know about his Mosque attender’s plot to behead innocent victims ahead of time. If so, then by not reporting the plot, he is complicit in the murder—but was happy to use it for more false Muslim victim-mongering.

In defense of Dr. Imad S. Enchassi, let it be said
that he is in the forefront of Muslim-kafir ecumenism.

I had long wondered about his “certificate of Apostate
Succession” he referred to on his bio page
    http://www.isgoc.com/site/abouttheimam/ .
When I wrote to info@isgoc.com to ask him
about the intriguing concept of Apostate Succession,
he assured me that this was a misprint for “Apostolic
Succession”. (Anybody who has a Wayback Machine
can verify that this page once said “Apostate Succession”.)
I wrote a letter by U.S. mail to the address at
    http://www.isgoc.com/site/contact/
asking for a copy of this advertised certificate,
and Dr. Enchassi said he would have it translated
from Arabic and send me a copy. I suggested that
instead he simply put a .pdf copy of the original Arabic
certificate on his website, and let Apostolic Succession
fans read it for themselves, using Google Translate.

Yesterday, he agreed to this and wrote me:
    > Mark
    > My “Apostolic Succession” appear in brackets on my resume.
    > “” meant to bring a closer meaning to western audience.
    > It theory it’s a similar concept.
    > As you requested It will be on our web sight today.
    > Funny how certain web sites commented
    > on this. I wish you guidance and inner peace.
    > Peace and blessings to you.
    > This will be my last communication with you regarding this subject.
    > I pray for your guidance. I pray that you find the truth. Peace.
    > Imad S. Enchassi.

Dr. Enchassi is a “deeper” man than an ignorant kafir
might give him credit for. You will notice many errors
in the text of his above-quoted email, such as “It theory”
for “In theory” and his referring to quote-marks as
    “brackets”. But his resume
    http://www.isgoc.com/site/wp-content/uploads/Resume.pdf
assures us that he is “Fluent in English and Arabic”, so all
these seeming errors are actually deliberate, as a way
to make readers think. Notice how the variant phrase
“a selected few” forces the reader to ponder the difference
with “a select few”, and how his spelling of “web sight” is
a tribute to his poetic sensibility for the visual nature of websites.

When the Arabic of his certificate is up on his bio
page, even a counterjihadi will be satisfied about
what the certificate attests to (including which Apostles
he derives his religious authority from; Phillip? John?),
about who is making the certification, and about
the standards of proof used by the certifying authority.

This publication of his certificate of Apostolic Succession
will embarrass all the kafirs who — in the words of
Dr. Enchassi’s fellow Oklahoman Gene Autry —
“used to laugh and call him names /
they never let poor Imad / join in their apostle games.”
But now that the truth is out, Dr. Enchassi will
    “go down in history.”

I’m sure Dr. Enchassi will be heartened by an
outpouring of emails of appreciation sent to
    info@isgoc.com or imadenchassi@me.com .

This alleged former Nun mentioned throughout the comments relies on the Protestant Anglican Bible for her alleged informed discourse on the rights and wrongs of Catholicism. In fact she uses only the Catechism and the King James Bible to discuss the fundamentals of Catholicism, which are founded on and taught from a much wider pool of knowledge Law and Tradition. To rely on this to mount an argument is to argue shallowly.

          http://www.biblebelievers.com/bennett/bennett_mary-worship.html

          Catholicism worships a woman who was born a sinner and died and is buried in the earth, whose body awaits resurrection. She cannot hear any living person praying to her for salvation or mercy nor can she save anyone since she herself is a sinner saved by His sacrifice. It is written you shall have no other gods before ME. Catholicism says the woman is a Mediator between G-d and man. This is blasphemy. Yeshua said HE ALONE IS THE MEDIATOR BETWEEN G-D AND MAN. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

The woman worshiped by Catholicism had 4 sons after Yeshua and more than two daughters, hence she is no longer a virgin. The woman is no greater than any other servant of G-d as Yeshua said…Mark 3:32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are here to see You. Mark 3:33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? Mark 3:34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! Mark 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

There is much more… open the link and read…she can teach you the truth because she has met THE TRUTH and she nows belongs only to Him.

For an update that encapsulates this whole affair,
here is a letter I sent to Dr. Imad S. Enchassi
(the correspondence is in reverse chronological order)…

    Dear Dr. Enchassi:
I was so stoked to have your assurance yesterday (quoted
below) that by the end of December 29, 2014 you would
have on your “web sight” (ha, clever pun!) a copy of your
    certificate of Apostolic Succession.

Originally you said on your biography page
    http://www.isgoc.com/site/abouttheimam/
that you have a certificate of Apostate Succession.
Then you revised the claim to say that you have a
certificate of Apostolic Succession. And now the
latest version of this page says that you have a
certificate of “Apostolic Succession” (with quote-marks).

I expected to see this certificate in a pageful of Arabic text,
but instead I see only a slight modification on your bio page:
In addition, he [Dr. Enchassi] earned a certificate
of “Apostolic Succession”* earned by a selected few.
*Eijazah in Quranic Recitation that goes back to
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), similar to the concept
    of Apostolic Succession.

“Eijazah” seems to be another one of your creative
spellings, referring to what Wikipedia calls
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ijazah .
But according to this article, the only thing in common
between the Ijazah that you now claim and the Apostolic
Succession that you used to claim is an isnad chain.
But where on your website do you cite this isnad chain?
And where, for that matter, is the text of your certificate
of Eijizah that you now claim, and that you said you
would put up on your website? Am I just looking at
the wrong page? Who issued your certificate of Eijizah,
and when, and what does this certificate certify (e.g.,
are you only a hafiz, and not an apostolic successor)?
Having defended you on an Islamophobic website, I now
feel very embarrassed at your backpedaling weaseliness.
If you won’t even back up this Eijizah claim of yours,
I and the rest of your fans will begin to lose all respect
for your honesty, and start to take you for a charlatan.

On the other hand, maybe you are much smarter than
all of us, and you are acting out a plot from a John
LeCarre novel, in which a discredited agent is later
shown to have been falsely accused. This has happened
in real life too. Do you remember it? There was a
Hawaiian who was accused of being born in a foreign
country and who for a long time refused to release his
birth certificate. This got his enemies all riled up, and
embarrassed them when he later actually produced
    a valid birth certificate.

So maybe that’s your game: You really do have an
    honest-to-goodness certificate of Apostolic Succession,
but are acting as if you don’t, only to prove later that
your claim of apostolic succession is genuine, thereby
    confounding your anti-Islamic enemies.
But until that happens, in my extreme disappointment,
I’ll consider you to be a self-promoting quack imam.

I will not stand next to you on the day you stand before the L-rd and He asks you about your relationship with His Son. How does focusing on anyone else save you?

As a student of Oklahoma City University, I know the imam personally. When he uses the term “apostolic succession,” he is not intending to deceive anybody. He is deliberately using a Christian term in a technically incorrect way as a rhetorical method in order to draw an analogy between a feature of Christianity and a feature of Islam.

In certain Muslim circles, it is considered prestigious and authority-granting to have an intellectual pedigree going back to Muhammad. Imam Enchassi’s quasi-“apostolic succession” certificate is from a very respected (at least in some circles) class or program he took in studying Islam, where he studied under a teacher who studied under a teacher who studied under a teacher who….eventually, allegedly studied under Muhammad himself.

Of course this claim may be historically spurious, as many religious claims of authoritative succession are. But his belief that his teachings are descended directly from those of his religion’s prophet is quite sincere, and that is all he means by the term “apostolic succession.” I think perhaps he should be more explicit in how he uses the term, but if he’s unclear it is due purely to being a bit careless and not intending to deceive anyone. He’s adamant about getting people educated about Islam and would not want anyone to have misconceptions about it.

But why use the Christian term for an Islamic concept? It is simply so he can make Islam more familiar to his audience. As a man who speaks to many Christians, within the highly Christian culture of Oklahoma, he does all he can to make Islam familiar to people who are often inclined to see it as a highly foreign and without analogue in their own religion.

His English is not very good. I occasionally correct him, and one classmate of mine does so more frequently. But he is a very gentle and good man, and smart.
