Those who advocate for the closing of Guantanamo have never dealt with the problem of recidivism. So many former Gitmo inmates have returned to the jihad. More will join them. More non-Muslims will be killed. Does this matter to “human rights campaigners”?
Note also that al-Rubaysh is a graduate of the Saudi program to “rehabilitate” jihadis. This is the kind of program on which Britain is staking its future.
“US government offering $5M reward for Al Qaeda leader freed from Gitmo,” FoxNews.com, December 23, 2014:
The Obama administration is scrambling to track down an Al Qaeda terrorist released from Guantanamo Bay years ago, offering a $5 million reward for information on him and placing him on a global terrorist list.
Ibrahim al-Rubaysh was originally released in 2006 by the George W. Bush administration and put into a Saudi Arabian “rehabilitation” program. However, al-Rubaysh returned to the battlefield and now serves as a top leader with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula — one of the most dangerous Al Qaeda affiliates.
The case underscores the continued risks in transferring detainees from the controversial prison camp — another four were released over the weekend to Afghanistan.
The Pentagon, though, insists that it continues to take precautions before releasing prisoners.
Lt. Col. Myles Caggins, Defense Department spokesman for detainee policy, said more than 90 percent of detainees transferred under the Obama administration “have resumed quiet lives in various countries.”
Al-Rubaysh, he said, was held at Guantanamo from 2002 and transferred in 2006.
“Since 2009, the Defense Department and five government departments and agencies conduct thorough security and intelligence reviews prior to transferring Guantanamo detainees,” Caggins said.
Recent alerts from the State Department revealed how al-Rubaysh has reestablished himself in militant circles since his release.
A briefing posting on the department’s Rewards for Justice website offers up to $5 million for information that “brings justice” to the former detainee. It says he has served as a senior “sharia official” with AQAP since 2013 and as such, “provides the justification for attacks conducted by AQAP.” He also is involved in planning attacks, the posting says.
A statement released last week by the department putting him on a list of “Specially Designated Global Terrorists” offered more details about his activities. The department said al-Rubaysh has made public statements, including this past August, “where he called on Muslims to wage war against the United States.”…

US government offering $5M reward for jihadi freed from Gitmo-
Well, of course! That is what happens when Obama hands them the keys to the prison! As commander and chief- He has squandered untold American blood and treasure and snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory.ISIS is President Obama’s legacy. That along with weakening our Homeland Security through race baiting antics with his cronies Eric Holder and Al Sharpton the Grievance Czar.

This particular criminal was released under George Bush in 2006. But point taken, as the recent releases under Obama are probably already winding their way back to the stream, like migrating fish return to the pool where they were spawned.

Released to the Saudi government. Who then proceeded to release him. The only country that needs its butt kicked in is Saudi Arabia. We need our American government to cut off the Saudis like how we are doing to the Russians. The Saudis are the primary cause and spread of Muslim Terrorism on earth.
Everyone complains about apartheid here and there and yet the most vile government in the world is a Muslim country and it practices not only apartheid but all forms of discrimination against minorities.

I am 100% for closing guantanamo.
Why wasting hundred of millions of dollars for an exclusive super expensive prison state for these idiots
instead of putting those idiots into regular prisons incl. live long solitary confinement
Libyan Jihad says
They don’t want the inmates in “regular prisons” converting to Islam, jihadist inmates are experts in attracting converts.
zebo says
that’s why i wrought:solitary confinement=no contact with others
(though i doubt the narrative,as most of those jihsdists are dumb a sh!t.Those few who are smart enough to convert people are not wasted on the battlefield by the muslims)

@ Libyan Jihad
“..jihadist inmates are experts in attracting converts.”
That’s because Islam attracts only the criminal, the pervert and the gullible.
Do you have any doubts that Muhammad was a criminal and a pervert?

Or better still, recycle them in a pulverised state in the G. Bay.

There is just no logic to this at all !
Do we in the west believe in the rule of law and due process? If we do then there is no place for Guantanamo bay. If someone has committed and offence, bring them to court with the evidence and try them.
Our justice systems work on the fact that we protect the innocent by having a high standard of proof. This also protects FREEDOM…..it means the state cannot just decide to lock people up without fair trial.
However that is EXACTLY what the US has done in GITMO.
We should accept the impartial rule of law……FFS if that means letting out the out the odd terrorist [whom we have no evidence against] so what? If previous governments hadn’t been so keen on Islamic immigration we wouldn’t be needing to worry about it. There are plenty out there anyway – the lefty idiots who let them in have seen to that.

Does civil law apply to enemy combatants and/or terrorists during an ongoing war? Maybe it’s just me, but if my government ever had to incarcerate enemy soldiers and terrorists I’d rather it did so in a location as far away from civilians and as hard to get into as possible, just in case their buddies try to go and get them.
Salah says
Seconded.

As Angemon says, Neil, you have mistaken the scope of US and state laws. The real problem is what to do with enemy soldiers who have no responsible state to which they belong. In WWII, the US captured Nazi soldiers. What did it do with them? How different is the treatment of these enemy soldiers?

I just don’t understand it. When he was released he had been thoroughly educated in avoiding workplace accidents.

Apparently, the handlers of these prisoners don’t believe in TAQIYYA.
If they did, they would have them strapped to the lie detector for the duration of their ‘rehabilitation.
A lie detector would be could for selecting immigrants too.
Christian A. Beltram says
Ibrahim al-Rubayish and his ilk are very good actors. Consequently, they can lie their ways out of prisons and rehabilitation programs with no difficulty at all. Only when they rejoin the global jihad will our military and government realized that they were duped into releasing dangerous individuals who have absolutely no remorse for the horrible acts of terrorism that they previously committed.

A *Saudi* program? So the same people funding the vast majority of the terror education/brainwashing/whatever you want to call it around the world are being trusted to run rehab programs? I have never been so glad I do not live in Europe than I have the last few years. I truly, truly fear for them. And this is no surprise, people usually agree that releasing psychotic murders on the street is a bad idea… unless they’re Muslim of course. No wonder they think they’re above all rules, not only does their god tell them so, their enemies do too.

“…people usually agree that releasing psychotic murders on the street is a bad idea…”
Unless you are Neil Jennison.
Or perhaps a protected and pampered European, living in a “feel good” fantasy land, completely divorced from reality and the consequences of releasing such psychotic murderers into your neighborhood.
Why then you might “take the moral high road” and simply state: “We should accept the impartial rule of law……FFS if that means letting out the out the odd terrorist [whom we have no evidence against] so what?”
Yeah, so what if your daughter and wife are raped? So what if the local supermarket was bombed and the blood of innocents runs in rivers down the street? So what if your son is raped and then emasculated before his head is carved off with a small knife?
So what?

So much for all the guff about releasing all the terrorists from Guantanamo! The US Govt. has now put a $5 million bounty of this recidivist. Others just went back to the battlefields and got droned out of existence. Some embarrassment here for all the liberals whining about closing down GITMO. Keep it going, there’s plenty more jihadis to fill it up.

Clearly a case of the clowns running the circus

Handing these terrorists over to the Saudi’s for therapy, is like handing over a prostitute to the Madam for Bible study. Locking people away for life because they are too dangerous to be running loose is nothing new. The US itself has thousands of lifers locked up in jails and institutions, many of them never convicted of any crimes. No one cries and whines over them, no one demands their release or wants to shut down those institutions. In most cases, the Gitmo ‘detainee’s’ have it much better than the lifers in State prisons. Releasing any of these terrorists should be a crime against humanity in itself.
