This is simple common sense. By going to Iraq and Syria to join the Islamic State’s jihad, these Muslims have joined an entity that has declared war against the United States. They have committed treason. They have forfeited the rights and privileges of citizenship. But it will be interesting to see who opposes this, and on what grounds.
“Cruz Files Bill to Ban American Islamic State Fighters from Returning to U.S.,” by Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon, January 23, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) will file legislation on Friday to ban American citizens who fight alongside the Islamic State (IS) and other terror groups from returning to the United States, where they pose a significant terror threat, according to sources in the senator’s office.
Cruz, who first proposed the legislation last year, seeks to strip those Americans who travel abroad to fight with IS (also known as ISIL or ISIS) of their U.S. citizenship rights and stop them from coming back stateside.
The bill, known as the Expatriate Terrorist Act (E.T.A.), tightens and updates existing regulations by which a U.S. citizen effectively renounces his or her citizenship.
Cruz said that he is filing the bill partly in response to President Obama’s Tuesday State of the Union address, which he described as “detached from reality” on the foreign policy front.
“President Obama’s approach to foreign policy refuses to acknowledge the threats our enemies pose to our national security—it is detached from reality and making the world a more dangerous place,” said Cruz, who also is releasing a new video that takes aim at Obama for misleading the nation about these threats in his annual address.
Cruz said stripping American IS fighters of their citizenship is a step toward securing the country and restoring the country’s image.
“We’ve seen the grave consequence of the Obama-Clinton-Kerry foreign policy unravel with respect to Iran, Russia, and now Yemen,” Cruz said. “These consequences are not confined to faraway lands. They directly threaten America and our allies.”
“That is why this week, I am re-filing the Expatriate Terrorist Act, which prevents Americans who have fought abroad for designated terrorist groups from returning to the United States,” he said. “I look forward to working with senators on both sides of the aisle on this and additional measures to secure our nation and restore America’s leadership in the world.”…

I don’t know how far back I suggested something similar; and I do think there would be many problems with implementation, once you get past the veritable BARRAGE of bleeding heart opposition and sabotage.
My idea was to make those people ‘unpersons’. EVERY trace of government documentation would be erased and shredded. The first time they attempted to use their unpassport, it would be seized, photocopied* and shredded, and the unperson escorted from the port/airport/border crossing.
Any applications to a US consulate by the unperson or their unrelatives would be met with a blank stare: “We have NO records of this person as a US citizen.”
* The unpassport might be forwarded to the US for forensic examination.

Well said. Those who oppose this legislation on constitutional grounds should understand that the constitution is not a suicide document. The lives and safety of Americans must come first.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and state that team obama will oppose this bill …just a wild guess.

What the Hell has taken so long to figure this out. Anyone on the street knew this was the answer months ago.
I wish our politicians would do more than campaign.
There is no common sense in government. I’ve worked for them twice and had to get away from all of those idiots.

Months ago ? In other parts of the world we had figured that out years ago – we thought it was just a case of White Christian Lemmings going for grand suicide.

Bill O’Reilly states that the vast majority of Moslems in America just want a normal life like the rest of us.
***
As for Sen. Cruz, that’s a good if belated start. The finish would be to suspend all immigration by Moslems until we determine whether they just want a normal life like the rest of us, whether they’re compatible with freedom. A feature of such a bill would be to deport all immigrant Moslems who have not yet attained citizenship.

“But it will be interesting to see who opposes this, and on what grounds.”
I doubt if it will be openly opposed by any groups. This is a job for stealth jihad. The Muslim Brotherhood affiliates will be quietly visiting their friends and allies on both sides of the aisle. The question of whether Saudi oil money will be backing them is very interesting. The Saudis are enemies of the Muslim Brotherhood, and enemies of ISIS, backed by the Muslim Brotherhood, and enemies of Iran, which opposes ISIS. This makes sense mainly in the tribal world of Islam, where everyone is everyone else’s enemy, depending on the degree of consanguinity.
But, the reasoning will be even more interesting. In fact, it is a deadly danger to give government the right to strip citizenship rights with an administrative action. What happens when the government decides to strip one’s citizenship rights based on a past trip to Israel, say, or to the Ukraine, or any other hot spot of the government’s choosing. Even if it is only a business trip, the victim has no opportunity to present his case. Government powers should always be considered in light of a government hostile to your principles, rather than a government friendly to them.
Having said this, being at war is also a deadly danger. I would hope there would be procedures in place so the people stripped of their citizenship would have the opportunity to present their case that they were not, in fact, acting as enemy agents. This is not to do them a favor, but to do us a favor.

Ted, could you please run for president?

I will be watching Sen. Ted Cruz and two or three other conservatives closely in the Republican debates, should he / they put their hat in the 2016 ring for the Republican nomination. If any conservative dare stray from the party line, if he says the Palestinians are terrorists or they are an invented people or if he says we should not establish another Islamic terror state in the region (in Israel), I expect the long (Establishment) knives to come out. Karl Rove, Elliott Abrams, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and other elite Republicans will bare their Palestinian-loving, Islam-loving teeth.

This legislation is of NATIONAL importance, so those of us who want to tell Senator Cruz about their support — DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT OF HIS STATE . . .
If a phone call or email makes you too nervous as trackable by taqiyya-spouting Lib gremlins, remember that a FAX — sent at a copy center with a card paid by cash, is complete untraceable.
katnis says
Well that should be a slam dunk. Those opposing should expect a ripple in their careers.
Why just limit the terminology to “terrorist” wars? Why would it make sense for an American citizen to fight in any foreign war? Think about it. We can’t predict future alliances. Further, how will terrorist war vs war be defined?

The ban would be so unfair to those who left the country to kill us Americans. We should allow them to come back and kill our ourselves in a shopping mall or something like that instead of going all the way over there. Fair is fair.
What we are allowing Islam to do to us is crazy.

Obama would oppose this because it might catch him if his backround were every seriously vetted.

Robert…please update us on who votes no for this bill. I even think we should pay for anyone who wants to join to fly over there. Give them 72 hours to think about it so they can’t claim they were under duress and then off ya go to Turkey! Too bad we can’t stick a GPS device inside them so we know where to aim the missles…

There is another simple possibility which, unfortunately, our PC democ rats are too squeamish about.
Joining Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) or Al Qaeda or any on of the multitude of Islamic Jihadist movements is actually an act of treason against the United States, if committed by a US Citizen, or US Permanent Resident, or any other person who availed himself or herself of US protection.
All such traitors should be hunted, apprehended, charged with treason, have the death sentence imposed upon them, and then be executed.
A US citizen who chose to return would simply make it easier to have him or her apprehended within US territory.
