“We denounce violence and respect freedom of opinion. But the other side has to understand that we love the Prophet Mohammed.” Noted. And there are plenty of things that I love also, and I don’t demand that everyone else respect my sensibilities; I put up with occasionally being offended as the price of living in a free society in which not everyone has the same point of view about what is valuable and important and what isn’t.
“Egypt Muslim authority slams new Charlie Hebdo Mohammed cartoon,” AFP, January 13, 2015 (thanks to Block Ness):
Cairo (AFP) – Egypt’s state sponsored Islamic authority on Tuesday denounced as a provocation the planned publication of another cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed in the new issue of French magazine Charlie Hebdo.
“This action is an unjustified provocation against the feelings of 1.5 billion Muslims,” the Dar al-Ifta said in a statement.
“This (magazine) edition will result in a new wave of hatred in French and Western society. What the magazine is doing does not serve co-existence and the cultural dialogue Muslims aspire to,” the statement added.
Dar al-Ifta is headed by the mufti, the government’s official interpreter of Islamic law.
His adviser, Ibrahim Negm, told AFP the institution condemned the bloody attack on the magazine’s offices last week by jihadists, after it published satirical depictions of the Muslim prophet.
“We call on all Muslims not to participate in violence,” he said.
“We denounce violence and respect freedom of opinion. But the other side has to understand that we love the Prophet Mohammed.”

They have only ONE Ambition…WORLD DOMINATION …
Welcome Back Hitler !!
Tayloch says
Fine. Give us a call and we’ll talk when YOU (and by extension, your cult) stop persecuting and killing the Copts.
Until then, your precious “prophet” is fair game.
mortimer says
They will NOT stop because their ‘cultural dialogue’ is a monologue.
The violence in Islam is inspired by Mohammed’s biography.
katnis says
And that is why islam is not compatible with western values. We play by different rules. Your “prophet” is a legit target for our satire. The two don’t mix, and we shouldn’t change to suit your values. Period.

I agree !!!
Wellington says
This Mo follower respects freedom of opinion? Huh-uh. And the 1936 Soviet Constitution guaranteed freedom of religion.
bernie says
North Korea also supposedly has “freedom of religion” in their constitution.
As for being offended: Mormons love Joseph Smith, and many of them were offended by the musical “The Book of Mormon”, yet they aren’t murdering people over it.
“I’m going to buy a cheeseburger”. Well, right there you’ve offended many vegetarians and Hindus, and also Jews who follow a kosher diet. So, should you be killed for it?
mortimer says
With respect to offending Muslims, Bernie wrote: “So, should you be killed for it?”
Sharia law says ‘yes’.
Georg says
Well, guess what! I’m QUITE offended by the way the Koran talks about me. Will it be banned? Of course not. If my leader describes the call to prayer of the religion that speaks about me as being lower than the gum under your Muslim shoes– CRAM IT!!!!
Georg says
*if my leader calls that sound the “sweetest”… Sorry, I get excited considering how terribly the Koran libels me while I do nothing in retaliation while my fellows are slain for a cartoon which is much, much less offensive (while admittedly offensive, but to an indescribably lesser degree).
tilda says
Then don’t buy the magazine and / or don’t read it. You have a choice.
mortimer says
And the terrorists have NO choice, because Allah has commanded them and his Sharia law is ‘perfect’ and ‘eternal’ and overrules your choice and that of everyone else.
Allah tests the faith of Muslims by sending them to hunt kafirs and slaughter them like pigeons.

The moderate is able to speak with firm conviction yet softness of tone rejecting violence and asserting wholesomeness of sensibilities only because he can rely on the extremist to follow the Koranic scriptures and perpetrate violence for him.
It’s good pasha bad pasha.

Imam Mujahid on O’Reilly. Not joking. He is claiming Islam is peaceful. The cognitive dissonance, it burns.

“We denounce violence and respect freedom of opinion. But the other side has to understand that we love the Prophet Mohammed.”
We understand that muslims love the Prophet Mohammed. But muslims have to understand that we love the freedom of speech too.
Why does everything have to go only one way… the muslim way???

Have you noticed the difference between Islam and Christianity? the first is loud and violent, the latter is peaceful calm and quiet. I am a Christian and many a word of “jesus Christ” my God, is said as a curse word, and I quietly ask people to refrain. In the media there is often something scoffing at Christianity, do we cause a violent seige or murder when this happens? No, yet the love I have for my Lord is more than anything I have on earth, and I am commanded to love my enemy, which I am finding so hard to do.
Veronica Jones says
Martin Infidel…There are some who call themselves Christians, as anyone could do! But if they hold violence in their heart they cannot be genuine.
As a Christian and Bible believer I know what is to come, and I dont need to go and live off the land.
But its your choice if thats what you want to do. May the God of creation bless you.

Sisi will need at some point to decide whether he’s going to take a radical secular route, like Ataturk and remove Islam from the public stage or instead try to balance a role as both secular leader and also a protector of Islam. I’d suggest the later is likely to be a dead end where he’ll become increasingly ineffectual like those before him.

Shaykh Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam is the leader of the Dar al-Ifta al-Misraiyyah which does Islamic legal research about Islamic rulings and determines ‘the right way’ to apply Sharia law in all aspects of life.
It is one of the highest authorities of the Sunni world. The only higher authority in the Islamic world is the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Mosque.
Angemon says
No, that’s not how the Western world works. Some people have a good laugh at satirical cartoons, some feel offended and complain, others don’t like and shrug it off. But I’m talking about how Westerners behave – the only ones liable to being swept by a wave of hate are muslims.
“We denounce violence and respect freedom of opinion. But the other side has to understand that we love the Prophet Mohammed.”
You denounce violence, but? There is no “but”. Either you denounce violence or you don’t. You don’t get to say you denounce violence but there are somethings that make justifiable. Listen buddy, you love death more than we love life and we love free speech more than you love your self-appointed child-rapist prophet, capisce? That doesn’t change just because sven if some people in high places prefer to self-censor themselves.

Your point is very powerful and a proper answer to this so-called religious leader.

You can draw Jesus or say anything about Him. No Christian will resort to a violent revenge in His defence because Jesus stands for goodness, love and peace. He is Devine and very competent to defend HIMSELF. NOT SO FOR ISLAM. SEE THE DIFFERENCE.
ANY RELIGION THAT HAS ZERO MESSAGE OF HOPE MUST ENCOURAGE MORTALS TO DEFEND IT WITH THE SWORD!

I heard a muslim journalist on BBC say that they(Muslims) were very offended at the cartoons and printing 3 million more was ridiculous. But what about the rest of the world that is offended that they can’t express themselves or criticize what they want. Should I kill Muslims because I hate their intolerance or insensitivity to my concerns? I am hurt that the worlds media is afraid to talk about the Hebdo cartoons or show them. These Muslims are very selfish, thinking only of themselves and their hurts.

Before 2001 I would’ve thought a “grand Mufti” was an Italian ice cream, I’d have thought “martyrdom” a noble, self-sacrifice and I had a very different view of the word “honour” (which now brings sinister, perverse connotations). This putrescent ideology has even soured my language.
