Germany: Soap brand withdrawn for being insulting to Muslims

Jan 20, 2015 5:20 am By Robert Spencer

Ombia_bath soapYou might have expected the soap bottle to feature a Muhammad cartoon, but no. The soap is called 1001 Nights, and “the packaging, which Aldi said was intended to evoke the exotic Orient, depicted a Turkish-style mosque with dome and minarets, together with a lantern and a set of prayer beads.”

So what, you ask? Ah, you’re thinking like a kaffir. “With its dome and minarets, the mosque is a sight that means dignity and respect for them for Muslim people.” Also, “others complained that it was inappropriate for a mosque to appear in a bathroom setting.” And so the soap had to go, with a suitable groveling apology.

However, in a sign that all is not perfect on the dhimmitude and appeasement train, “non-Muslim customers reacted angrily to the decision, claiming it was unnecessary to withdraw the product and demanding its reinstatement in Facebook posts. Some claimed there would have been no complaints if a church had been featured.” Indeed.

“Aldi withdraws soap brand ‘insulting to Muslims,'” by Justin Huggler, the Telegraph, January 19, 2015:

With Europe facing terror alerts and Germany in the grip of anti-Islam protests, the supermarket chain Aldi has found itself in the middle of controversy over liquid soap bottles that depicted a mosque.

The German discount chain Aldi Süd has withdrawn its own-brand Ombia 1,001 Nights liquid soap from sale after complaints that its packaging was insulting to Muslims – only to face new complaints from non-Muslim customers demanding it be reinstated.

The packaging, which Aldi said was intended to evoke the exotic Orient, depicted a Turkish-style mosque with dome and minarets, together with a lantern and a set of prayer beads.

The row began when Muslim customers posted complaints about the design on Aldi’s Facebook page.

“I was somewhat shocked that a mosque that was depicted,” Ali Girdapoglu wrote. “With its dome and minarets, the mosque is a sight that means dignity and respect for them for Muslim people.”

Others complained that it was inappropriate for a mosque to appear in a bathroom setting, and there was a heated discussion on Aldi’s Facebook page.

“We are sorry the design of our soap has caused you distress,” the supermarket said in a post that has been deleted, according to Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper. “The product will soon no longer be available in our stores.”

Non-Muslim customers reacted angrily to the decision, claiming it was unnecessary to withdraw the product and demanding its reinstatement in Facebook posts. Some claimed there would have been no complaints if a church had been featured, while others posted pictures of other products featuring mosque designs….

Agree with Ardvark, if there wasn’t a real and present threat of violent retaliation from the death cult I’m sure aldi would do an advert saying i like this mosque but I prefer this mosque (showing one in ruins).

The brainwashing of kafirs continues. Go ahead, complain about the displacement or killing of thousands of Christians in Syria, Egypt, etc…or the outright destruction of Churches in the ME. Sexual enslavement of non-muslim young girls? Make a statement that such things are unacceptable. See how much sympathy that garners. Maybe you can get a twitter response.
Amazing isn’t it, a picture of a mosque in a bathroom setting is somehow a more important “slight” than death and destruction upon kafirs? And not just to muslims, but to western leadership as well? I no longer recognize the world I live in. It is surreal.

Not as shocked as the Christians of Constantinople (Istanbul) would have been when they had their church (Hagia Sophia) confiscated and converted into a Mosque, the one pictured on the soup packet. Also pray beads were first used by eastern Christians, yet another appropriated idea from other peoples and claim ownership my Islam. Kind of like the so called golden era of Islam that never was. Achievements of subjugated non Muslims attributed to Islam.

new day,new lows in muslim culture.

Maybe soap is a threat to islam as it may be interpreted as metaphor how dirty islam is
and that the ugly truth may become visible once the fake “religion of peace”-shit is washed away and mosques are considered what they really are:recruit center to brainwash mohammeds soldiers into eternal jihadists.

the only thing that is more disgusting is islams 100%primitive and non-existing arbritary logic.

On the one hand they feel insulted by churches and either (moderate muslims)protest against them like in ethopia until they are destroyed or they(radical muslims) destroy them straight away like in nigeria
on the other hand they don’t have any problems to turn those churches into mosques if they are huge and attractive enough(and than pretend that they have built the mosque and use it as fake proof how advanced and great they have been hundreds of years ago)

They obviously only can steal from others or destroy from others and never waste a chance to complain.

Now more often than ever the dhimmified west and the leftists lapdogs of Islam give in to their ridiculous demands, proving the words of the Koran to be true. We must really be the ” worst of creatures” to have lost our dignity and pride tho this barbaric 7th century cult.

Many of Germany’s Muslims are Turkish.
They were originally allowed in only as TEMPORARY guest workers.
    Politicians promised this..
They were supposed to return to Turkey after two years.
Unfortunately, appeasing politicians quickly changed the law soon after so they could stay.

If Germany had WITHDRAWN its Turkish Muslims as politicians had promised they would not now have this problem.

      • Neil Jennison says

        Jan 20, 2015 at 7:29 pm

I would normally never go for such silly ideas as toilet paper with Mohammed’s image on it…………But at the moment I think there is a huge principal at stake…..that of freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom to criticise beliefs and freedom to offend those who choose to take offence.

I would have no great desire to wipe my arse on Mohammed…..at least if Muslims were not defending the Jihadis who killed the Charlie Hebdo journalists – and wishing to introduce Sharia blasphemy laws into the west.

If they just said, “OK it is legal, the massacre was wrong, but we would rather you respected our religion”…..then fine, I would not be asking for it.

But someone should now produce “Mohammed (Shit Be Upon Him) ” toilet roll.

Yes, if Muslims wish to respond with something similar about Christ…..let them. My religion, my God, is big enough to take it. I wish for no revenge if they do. Freedom is everything is a democratic country.

As a Catholic, I will also still love them and pray for them.

        • Neil Jennison says

          Jan 20, 2015 at 7:37 pm

I should add, I will still love them and pray for them, and I will forgive them…….but I will not give in to them.

        • Bezelel says

          Jan 21, 2015 at 12:20 pm

@Neil J, I’m with you on praying for them as they are truly satan’s trophies but I have not seen anyone change course without motivation of some sort. Kissing up to them is only seen as weakness by them. Tolerance as a mechanical term as an automobile engine is necessary and without the engine would seize. There is a limit that beyond tolerance there is slop. The engine starts making noises that get louder and louder until it flies apart in a catastrophic failure. There is an analogy in there somewhere. God’ grace and peace to you.

refers to an image of a mosque on a container of bath-soap, but won’t show a picture of the “mosque with dome and minarets”. Does it really depict Hagia Sofia (as one commenter said)? The Telegraph reader cannot verify this. This failure to show the “offensive” part of the packaging is like reporting about Muhammad cartoons without showing the cartoons. It’s bad journalism.

Soap? What’s that? Where in Quran, sunnah or Sira, does talk about soap? Where can I find instructions for the use of soap in sharia? It was just a mistake to hook Islam up with soap on the label. All mosques are models of Mahound’s original Mosque, and it is well know he never used soap for anything. And why should he when camel urine was available for free, and at the time it was known as a powerful cleaning agent for both mosque and personal body. People even drank it for it’s tonic properties. All the company has to do is remove the mosque picture and replace it with a camel, with the slogan, ‘I would walk a mile for a camel’…There should be few complaints about that.

Most mosques are built on Christian churches. Remember, Instanbul for hundreds of years was Constantinople, named after the first Christian emperor, Constantine. The Muslim call to prayer may be based on Gregorian chants of the time. Minarets were added by conquering Muslims. I surely hope someone will add to this by the arrogant islamist Turkish president Erdogan, who Obama dearly loves, by what Erdogan said about Islam.

The only people at fault for Constantinopole falling to the Muslims are Christians. When Constantine asked for help to defend his city, other Christians didn’t respond.
We are doing exactlyt he same now. So many Christians and others begging for help and all Christian leaders ignoring it.
Learn to like Islam for it will be our master.

I believe, a little known fact is that the cannons and gunpowder that the Muslims used to batter down the walls of Constantinople were bought from the Christian Hungarians.
Christian governments are still providing Muslims with weapons to murder other Christians, all over the world.

No, dufous, they are not “Christian” governments. The only Christian government I can think of would be the Vatican so are they supplying arms?

did you take lessons in stupid or were you just born that way ???
Western countries are considered Christian therefore their governments are Christian in heritage and culture.

      Cartimandua,

Very interesting, your comments. Could you provide us / me with a good source for Christian / muslim history, in particular, the Crusades? I want to learn more.

      Thanks very much.

In Indonesia, the muslims were protesting a hotel logo claiming it was a word ‘allah’ in Arabic, but upside down
    (http://news.detik.com/read/2015/01/19/190627/2807764/486/kaji-logo-hotel-yang-dianggap-lafadz-allah-terbalik-mui-minta-waktu-1-minggu)

I think, the muslims are trying to extort money from the hotel, making some ridiculous reason.

As I look at our lovely American churches and Synagogues, I have a frightening vision of them turned into Mosques, and our Nation into a Caliphate of Genocide, Murder, Rape, Theft and Tyranny.

That is EXACTLY the Muslim master plan for the USA and Europe,
and this Muslim master plan is being rapidly brought to fruition by Western Governments continuing to import tens of millions of Muslim “refugees” and ” asylum” seekers into their countries every year.

This is getting beyond petty now, if they don’t like the packaging then don’t buy it and you won’t see it in your bathroom setting. it’s like when Muslims complained to subway about them selling ham, subway removed ham from their menu and replaced it with Turkey ham, well I don’t like Turkey ham I like ham, this is sadly the way great britian( I say great britian but is it really) has now gone and it won’t change it will only get worse people, get a backbone .

Probably it’s the soap that offends them, implying, as it does, a need for washing. The rest is just stuffing & packaging.

Good. Who the hell wants to see a mosque on their soap anyway? Be reminded of the ugly thing every time you go to the bathroom? Let them replace it with a nice picture of a young piglet, splashing in the tub. Now, that will bring a smile to all, or most, anyway.

Time to, no past time, to send all these Muslim complainers back to whatever country they came from and do not let any more into our nation. They will not assimilate to our democratic republic and will work to undermine our freedoms by trying to establish sharia law. Acting friendly is one step in Islam’s plans to subdue unbelievers in Allah until the Muslim population reaches significant enough numbers to try and force submission or make us pay a tax and be treated as 2nd class citizens.

Maybe Muslims don’t know what soap is, or perhaps they do and the notion that they might use the stuff is insulting. What is insulting, without a doubt, to all humanity, is Islam.
