John Kerry takes James Taylor to Paris to sing, “You’ve Got A Friend”

Jan 16, 2015 2:54 pm By Robert Spencer

Foreign policy in the Obama years is so embarrassing. France doesn’t need hugs or aging folk singers. France needs an honest assessment of the jihad threat and a realistic strategy to combat it. No number of hugs will substitute for that. But Obama, of course, doesn’t have realism or honesty to offer.

“James Taylor to Paris: ‘You’ve got a friend,’” by Kendall Breitman, Politico, January 16, 2015 (thanks to Anne Crockett):

Secretary of State John Kerry is visiting Paris to remind the French that they’ve “got a friend” in an unexpected way — through a James Taylor performance.

Video surfaced on Friday of the singer singing his hit “You’ve Got a Friend” to French officials….

President Barack Obama and his administration were criticized this week for not attending Paris’ unprecedented unity rally after the attacks. The White House later admitted that it “should have sent someone with a higher profile to the event.”

Kerry said that this visit was meant “to share a big hug with Paris ” — and, apparently, a song.

Kathy – if I recall correctly from other posts of yours, you’re a Catholic?

        Then PRAY.

Pray for France. Pray for deliverance from dhimmitude, and for clarity of mind and speech and for incandescent courage. They *do* have some people, both Catholic and secular, who are speaking up and trying to resist. Those people need heartening up. Pray for the raising up of clergy – both Catholic and Reformed – who will speak the truth.

Pray that la belle France, once known as the eldest daughter of the Church, may rise like the phoenix out of the dust and the ashes.

Nothing wrong with songs, as such; the French need songs out of their own deep past, songs to focus the mind and put steel in the backbone.

Didn’t JT sing a song many years ago called “Her Town Too” or something similar titled?
“It used to be her town, used to be her town, too…”
I suppose that wouldn’t have been thought appropriate for this occasion. But I suspect some Parisians might look around at the no-go zones and think that song was more fitting.

As a fan of JT, I know his entire oeuvre, and I can’t think of a single song that would fit (save for a revamped and lyrically adjusted “Slap Leather” — but then, that song was redolent in Bushbashing). Perhaps most fitting would have been his song he wrote in French back in the 80s, “Chanson Franscaise”, whose lyrics are all about how he can’t quite express what he wants to say because he doesn’t know French well enough — which, in that Dinosaur Hippie’s case would have been not merely a language barrier, but the barrier of an inveterate Leftist unable to step outside his Box (a Box unfortunately nearly as large as the world) to join freedom-loving people against Islam.

“Wouldn’t you think a country as large as USA would have a better crop of Presidential candidates [?]”.

It’s all in the structure of politics and the government. The original constitution allowed multiple influences in choosing candidates, including state legislators and electors. Also, campaign contributions were not restricted (though you could go to prison for buying votes), and “proportional representation” was not even dreamed of. Coincidentally, while you got some clinker Presidents, you also got great ones.

All the tinkering with the original concept of checks and balances has had the effect of filtering out the truly great candidates, who are unwilling or unable to spend all their time in tedious fund raising. Also, popular elections are by far the most prevalent way of choosing candidates, which also selects out good candidates. Notice I talked about selecting candidates, not officials. Party conventions and lawmakers had a major role in selecting the candidates for each party: then, they had to appeal to the general electorate in the main election, through the electoral college.

All the tinkering has had an effect: the process is stacked against truly qualified candidates.

And don’t forget the press. Let us go back to 2008– The N Y T – on the day that McCain (not my favorite person, by the way, but I am a Republican) was to ( and did get) the nomination, they ran ON PAGE 1, (AS I RECALL) allegations, that some years back, McCain (supposedly) had sex with a female lobbyist after having dinner together. This was proven false WHEN IT HAD HAPPENED-SOME 8-10 YEARS BEFORE ( both denied it; but even if it had happened- they had had sex- both were over 18; ).

Then take 22012– YAHOO/AP had two stories- different days-
        1. Romney ALSO HAS A BIRTHER ISSUE. Reading- about halfway down-it said that Romney’s father, (the late- by something like 20 or so years) George Romney (Mitt’s father) MIGHT have been born in Mexico, where Mitt Romney’s grandfather had gone to, some time back in the 1880’s or so. What that MIGHT have to do with Mitt Romney who was born in Michigan, and how what his grandfather did or did not do 100+ years ago is relevant.

Then there was the story (I gave up reading Yahoo news about the campaign due to these and some other biased articles) that Romney also had a solar energy failure, like Obama’s ( The Cal. firm-Solyana or whatever the name was– the one that burned the taxpayers for some $500 million, but was run by an Obama fundraiser and campaign contributor). Buried, the firm was run by a relative (nephew, I think) of Mrs. Romney, and the Romney’s and his firm (Bain Capital) had put some 4200 million or so into it. IGNORING THE FACT THAT THIS WAS PRIVATE MONEY, NOT TAXPAYERS..

The press will crucify anyone who they don’t like. And that is someone who is not a progressive asshole.

Bible prophecy is very often hard to see because of the words used by the ancient men of another language. In the time of King Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel said that the feet and toes of the immense image would be “iron mixed with clay (Dan. 2:41-43).” The image represented earthly empires….the last of which is the feet and toes and will be crushed by Christ.
Clay is the opposite of iron in that iron is strong and can withstand a lot of pressure…clay is soft and easily molded. This prophecy of Daniel is so much easier to understand now.

  14. Informed American says

    Jan 16, 2015 at 5:23 pm

Kerry’s song singing should not be embarrassing, it is purposefully designed that way to stimulate the emotional reaction of embarrassment in the general American public and to make them feel powerless toward fighting “terrorism”

This song fest is actually quite revealing for several reasons:

1 It shows that the current administration believes the American populace to be easily manipulated aa grade school children or junior high school adolescents. A recent survey points out that entering college freshman are reading at the 7th grade level [1] The average American today has almost lost their ability to think critically, cogently and rationally. (this is by design, aka the Common Core curricula)

    2. It shows the demoralization of America as outlined by Yuri Bezmanov in his interviews with G. Edward Griffin. Yuri explains that demoralization means that the person is unable to have a proper and correct moral reaction to the events around them as they unfold.[2] American has completed step 2 in this 4 step process, of destabilization, and is entering stage 3, crisis. Yuri’s interview needs to be viewed by all Americans.

    3. Kerry’s ambivalence should not be taken as buffoonery, actually the US has helped ISIS by supplying tens of thousands of small arms through the Benghazi Libya gateway into southern Turkey and thence into Syria, in a proxy war attempt to overthrow the reign of Bashar Hafez al-Assad, despite Vladimir Putins remonstrations. The US simply has aided ISIS [3] and even retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen Tom McInerney admits that the US “helped build ISIS” [4] So why should Kerry be concerned at all? Where do you think all the money and aid keeps coming from?

    4. As Rahm Emmanual stated “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” so we now see the Charlie Hebdo massacre being used as an excuse by Western governments to outlaw any encrypted communications on the global internet altogether. David Cameron’s slip of the tongue let the cat out of the bag as he stated “We must not allow terrorists safe space to communicate with each other” [5,6] Were the individuals responsible for the Charlie Hebdo massacre using encrypted communications? This slip of the tongue shows that things were being monitored at the bare minimum.

As this reply is being written, we see both Cameron and Obama meeting to discuss obtaining more encrypted communications from American companies.[7] While the reason is valid, to block encrypted terrorist communications, much more is at stake here as Forbes Magazine succinctly points out[8] Can governments be allowed to prosecute whatever party that is attempting “to obtain or alter information” the relevant party is not entitled to look at? This is how broad the proposals currently are, but please remember that broad latitude is being given to governments to decide who “is not entitled” and to prosecute.

As readers of Jihad Watch know, there was a recent pledge to push back against “anti-jihad” articles[9] Please consider the source. So will “anti-jihad” articles be the future information we’re “not entitled to look at” at the risk of felony prosecution? Please think about this!

    5. Do readers know that the occupant of the White House declared economic war on Russia? [10,11,12] Poking bears with sticks will have consequences, already the restriction of natural gas to 40% of original supply and abandoning the petrodollar exchange mechanism by Russia signals economic hardship ahead for most of the Western world.

The reader needs to step back and look at the whole picture unfolding here. Big central banks are threatened by economic collapse because of the inability to pay on oil derivatives bonds, but low oil prices are insuring this outcome, the recent Omnibus bill allows banks to legally steal depositors, oops “unsecured creditor”‘s money, plunging the nation further into an debt/economy vortex which future generations will pay for, but Kerry is participating in a song fest.

Most revealing indeed. Does anyone believe that the current administration has the health, life and safety of the American people as their goal? Or is it to sing more folk songs, while things implode all the way, ushering in a cyber controlled totalitarian police state, never seen before in the history of the world?

Again the reader is strongly urged to read Yuri Bezmanov’s testimony [2] on demoralization. If we know how America was demoralized, we can take positive steps to undo the extensive damage before it is too late.

One last word: Praying is the first right step to take, before any other steps to recovery take place.

P.S. While preparing this reply on the Jihad Watch website reply page, both the webpage and this material disappeared right in front of this author’s eyes. Is the truth that scary?

      Learned American,

Thank you very much for your informed reply. I appreciate any reasoned and informed entry, whether I agree with it or not.

Bezmenov’s interview is a bit dated. References made in the interview makes me think it was given around 1984. I wonder if he would have the same perspective today, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but still with a totalitarian government. His observation on demoralization is interesting. He views the moral climate of the country as a whole, but with the advent of the internet, there are very different groups, who are cohesive within themselves. For example, the internet and JihadWatch site allows me to attend the anti-Sharia demonstration on two days notice. We need at the least a political action group of our own, dedicated to stopping the immigration of Muslims and any other individuals who do not accept the foundation principles of the United States government and constitution, as presently constituted. No weasel words on “change through constitutional amendments”. If they want to make substantial changes to the form of government, they can go elsewhere.

But, what we have now is a situation where information and critical thinking is freely available to any individual and can be had at the click of a button. This is entirely outside the scope of government, and you rightly point out the dangers of allowing government to be arbitrary in defining who is a danger. There is no question that with the present administration, any powers of discretion given to the government will be used on anti-Jihad, anti-Islamic resources. The Republicans, operating through the funding filter of Grover Norquist and his Muslim Brotherhood allies, are not likely to be much better.

I appreciate your references to Obama’s actions against the Russian economy. I have no idea what motivates Obama, or if he is even cogent enough to understand the issues. It makes me think of the part in the Brezmenov interview where he says Russian agents were shot by Africans with machine guns, for no reason other than that the Africans had been given machine guns and wanted to use them. If Obama is involved in any personal way in the decision to sanction Russia, other than as a mouthpiece, what is his motivation? I have no idea.

I also appreciate your alerting us to the possibility of banks confiscating deposits in the next crisis. The authority to do so is murky, but with the increasing centralization of the federal government, who is going to oppose the decision of agencies such as the FDIC? It’s a bedrock principle of accounting that simply because you have custodianship over assets, they do NOT become your assets. Apparently that principle is being eroded, and simple possession is now constitutes a claim, in the same manner that renters in New York city gain a substantial property interest in an apartment simply by signing a lease agreement.

Ronald– The Grover Norquist to whom you refer.

is this the same nu tjob, who back in the last days of Pres. Truman’s Administration and the beginning of President Eisenhower’s was furious that both wanted to use budget surpluses to pay down WW2 debt, rather then reduce tax rates? if so, he must be about 100+ (I was just out of diapers at this time). (Or his descendants, who also seem to be nut jobs). I am also against and hate paying taxes, but the governments DO DO SOME THINGS, AND HAVE TO, AND MUST BE PAID FOR. To go back to (in its entirety society as it existed in 1776, as some “Libertarians’-advocate is unreasonable, in today’s world. It no longer takes months to go from Europe or Asia to the US, now more like hours. And messages in minutes or less.

Holy Hell. This man is Secretary of State and he’s a complete fool. He also decades ago was only too ready to condemn America for its actions in Vietnam and sullied the reputations of countless loyal and stalwart Vietnam Veterans in doing so. Indeed, he lied about America’s actions in Vietnam at the same time he embellished his own actions while there, as so many Vietnam Veterans know to this day.

In continued kick-America-first mode, he said nothing about the real killing in Southeast Asia once the Americans leff in 1975, courtesy in part because of liars like him. He’s also, in effect, a gigolo twice over and one who docks his yacht in Rhode Island to avoid the taxes his home state, Massachusetts, would have imposed on it were it there, though all the while he keeps supporting higher taxes in general for Americans in general.

The man has no shame. No sense. No real knowledge. He’s a user and a liar. He’s despicable. And he is America’s current Secretary of State and came very close to being President back in 2004. Sometimes it’s difficult not to conclude that life is an idiot. The existence of Islam and the career of John Kerry tend to prove this.

It appears to me that he was being mistreated to show the importance of John Kerry. If I were James, I would have been quite insulted by everything about the situation. Whoever provided the microphone failed to set one up for vocals. The mic on the stand was positioned to pick up sound from the acoustic guitar, which made it too low to pick up James’ singing. He had to hunch over to be close enough to the mic. After a while, the woman on stage manually held a mic for him to sing into, which allowed him to straighten up. Incompetence aplenty. The US military coined a phrase and acronym for that sort of thing. “Situation Normal. All F***ed Up!”

I wouldn’t feel too sorry for James. He’s been a staunch supporter for Obama and has helped him in both of his campaigns. He also said after 911 some stupid comment about how “there are people who have a lot of anger and frustration in the world and I can understand that” or some such retro-Hippie bullshit. He’s one of my favorite musicians; but as a citizen whenever he opens his trap sideways to make sociopolitical observations, he’s a clown.

As much as I like JT’s music, I really don’t care for him personally. Shameful to see the way he let himself get pimped out like this.

        Vostro,

Unless Taylor was forced at gunpoint, or drugged and taken against his will, to Paris, and to perform, he did this on his own free will.

So, was is it shameful? Shameful that he would allow himself to be used like this? perhaps? But, he was apparently doing so voluntarily.

        No sympathy.

Hussein Obama’s lack of action against terrorism will allow Islamic Brotherhood to more firmly establish itself in the USA. He is playing for time.

That was cringe worthy, totally embarrassing. I’m surprised Kerry and the lady didn’t do a little dance instead of standing there. Couldn’t Obama have just sent a carrier bag with a few CDs in it again?

I’ll take Reagans cowboy diplomacy over these leftist metrosexual twerps, James Taylor diplomacy any day. What an embarrassment. Thatcher could gain more respect from a jihadist as a women than Kerry ever could as a Muslim.

What an embarrassment to this country and American people. Makes you want to say, HMMMM…..how old are these people. Did Obama send a note by Kerry that said, ‘I like you, do you like me? Check yes or no.’

They need to just STOP, stop it now, just play golf, no more of this trying to be foreign diplomats, please. This was as embarrassing as Hillary’s reset button.

I can only ad to Robert’s comment that, “Foreign policy in the Obama years is so embarrassing” by saying it is also dangerous. This bunch in DC running the country is so disgraceful, it’s beyond comprehension or words.

My sister speaks French- not perfectly, but reasonably. About 6 or 8 months into Obama’s first term, she and a friend (also speaks French) went to France. Speaking, in Paris and in a few other cities, she was asked the same question.

” HOW COULD AMERICANS BE SO STUPID AS TO ELECT THIS CLOWN?’. And this was before he was in office for a full year.

And Michelle was ridiculed, as to her- well, everything.

Nothing has changed, except the US has lost more prestige; friends and strength.

Kerry should have brought yusuf islam, aka cat stevens to sing. It would fit in so well with the wests useful idiot ignorance toward islam. This would have helped Hussein obama save face in the wake of his hebdo no-show fiasco, and had placed him back in good graces as being so tolerant.

These western leaders are more dangerous to us than islam itself.

It’s not Obama and Kerry that is the embarrassment. It is the non-brain dead Americans that haven’t rebelled against the political rape of their great country from the overgrown college students destroying their country. The time of rebelling through a vote is over.
