Over at PJ Media I discuss some hate-mongers Linda Sarsour should focus her organization’s time on confronting.
The Arab American Association of New York’s website describes its executive director, Linda Sarsour, as,
a working woman, community activist, and mother of three. Ambitious, outspoken and independent, Linda shatters stereotypes of Muslim women while also treasuring her religious and ethnic heritage. She is a Palestinian Muslim American and a self-proclaimed “pure New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn!”
She is also quite influential: she is a frequent visitor to the Obama White House and has the ear of far-Left New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. And now she has set her sights on “Islamophobia,” claiming that there is a wealthy group of “Islamophobes,” including Steve Emerson and me, whose full-time job is to “vilify Islam and Muslims.”
In an interview published last Tuesday in Middle East Monitor, Sarsour claimed that,
it’s a very dangerous industry in this country. This is not just Steven Emerson doing this as a side job, or something he just writes about when he has free time. This is what people like Steve Emerson do every morning from when they wake up to when they go to bed. Their job is to vilify Islam and Muslims.
This is a sterling example of how leftists and Islamic supremacists advance the “Islamophobia” myth: as far as they are concerned, Islam and Muslims are entirely guiltless in all respects, and the only reason why anyone is suspicious of them is because of a well-heeled “Islamophobia industry” that works full-time, for unaccountable reasons, “to vilify Islam and Muslims.”
But back in the real world, people are suspicious of Islam and Muslims because of “Islamophobes” like these, who seem very much indeed to have made it their full-time job to “vilify Islam and Muslims”:
1. Abubakar Shekau.
Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Nigerian jihad terror group Boko Haram (whose official name is the Congregation of the People of the Sunnah for Dawah and Jihad), recently claimed responsibility for the mass murder of hundreds of people in the Nigerian town of Baga. “We killed the people of Baga,” Shekau announced. “We indeed killed them, as our Lord instructed us in His Book.”
The book to which Abubakar Shekau is referring is, of course, the Qur’an. Somehow he got the crazy, Islamophobic idea that it calls for the murder of unbelievers. No doubt Barack Obama is on his way to Nigeria right now, to warn Shekau that he has to stop perpetuating “offensive stereotypes of Muslims.”
2. Zak Ali.
Last week, a young man named Zack Davies ran amok in a Tesco supermarket in the north Wales town of Mold. He attacked a Sikh, Sarandev Brahambra, with a hammer and a machete, leaving him with serious injuries. This story from The Mirror identifies the victim by name but describes him only as “Asian,” without ever saying he was Sikh, and also says: “The attacker was shouting ‘White power’, witnesses said, and detectives have confirmed the assault appeared to be racially-motivated.”
So this was presented to the British public as a an attack by one of those right-wing racists that British authorities are much more concerned about than they are about Islamic jihadists, and this attack appeared to substantiate their concern.
There’s just one catch: Zack Davies is a Muslim who calls himself Zak Ali, and who warned on his Facebook page on the morning of his attack in Tesco: “The wrath of Allah is about to come down upon the kaffir, I will have my revenge.” He also posted four Qur’an verses (identifying the suras as “books”) that call for violence against unbelievers:
Book of Al-Anfal, verse 12 ( 8:12) – “I (Allah) will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off.”
5- Book of Al-Baqara, verse 191 (2:191) – “Kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from wherever they drove you out.”
6- Book of Al-Baqara, verse 193 (2:193) – “Fight them on until there is no more tumult and religion becomes that of Allah”
7- Book of Al-Tawba verse 29 (9:29) – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the last day… and fight People of the Book, (Christian and Jews) who do not accept the religion of truth (Islam) until they pay tribute (Jizyah tax) by hand, being inferior.”
The fact that Zak Ali is a Muslim who clearly believes in jihad against unbelievers doesn’t mean that this wasn’t a “white power” attack. Neo-Nazis have an affinity for Islam, based on their shared Jew-hatred. The British media, however, has not reported on the jihad aspect of this attack at all. Yet two reports strongly suggested that at least some British journalists know that the perpetrator was a Muslim, and are covering up that fact. The Mirror ran a photo of Zack Davies that appears on Zak Ali’s Facebook page — but it is remotely possible that they got it from somewhere else, and didn’t see Zak Ali’s page.
Also, the Daily Post ran a story Monday with the headline, “Mold Tesco attack sparks fear in Sikhs across Wales.” Only Sikhs? But wasn’t this a “white power” attack against an “Asian,” which would mean that Muslims should be just as fearful as Sikhs? But neither this story nor any other says anything about Muslims being afraid after this “white power” assault on an “Asian” — a strong indication that the British media knows that the attacker was a Muslim, and are concealing this from the British public. “Community cohesion” must be preserved at all costs!
3. Omar S.
A Muslim identified only as Omar S. was arrested on January 9 in the Catalonian city of Manresa. He was screaming “Allahu Akbar!” and “You will all die!,” as well as “I am a Muslim and Allah is great!,” and tried to grab a policeman’s gun. After his arrest, he screamed, “You killed my brothers in Paris. I’m going to kill everyone. Christians, you will die!”
4. The five statue-destroying Muslims in Italy.
On the same day in Perugia, five Muslims entered the chapel of St. Barnabas, where they smashed a statue of the Virgin Mary to pieces and then urinated on it.
Monsignor Paolo Giulietti, auxiliary bishop of Città della Pieve, imitated Western leaders such as Barack Obama and David Cameron by immediately moving to absolve Islam of all responsibility for this act, saying:
For Islam, the figure of Mary is very important: she is the mother of the Prophet Jesus conceived in virginity, and the Blessed Virgin is the most holy woman. Muslims pray at the Marian shrines in the Middle East. We cannot see in this act of vandalism—which as I said is wrong in every way—an episode of religious hatred. It is important not to feed mutual suspicion, especially at this time….
