Jihad Watch

Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Saudi King Abdullah is dead

Jan 22, 2015 7:05 pm By Robert Spencer

obama-bowsSaudi Arabia’s King Abdullah is dead. This is not an optimum time for a transition. The Saudis’ massive expenditures to export the jihad doctrine have come back to bite them in the form of the Islamic State, a self-proclaimed caliphate that denies the legitimacy of the House of Saud (and every other government other than its own) and has vowed to conquer it (and every other country, but it is right on the Saudis’ doorstep). The Iranians, meanwhile, are always jockeying to become the leader of the Islamic world, and in that Saudi Arabia is one of their chief rivals. But Iranian-backed Shi’ite Houthi rebels have just won a major victory in Yemen, and Iran has just concluded a military pact with Russia.

Could the death of Abdullah be the Iranians’ moment? Or the Islamic State’s?

I won’t count on it, Champ. At least, not now.
Lately, the Saudis have been very friendly with al-Sisi of Egypt. They are waking up and are starting to realize the dangers of their own handmade monster (the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, al-Qaeda, etc.) coming back to bite them.
Now that the big guy is gone, the next king (probably Salman) will have a unique opportunity to actually change things. If he keeps a good relation with al-Sisi things may REALLY change for the better.
        Let’s wait and see.

Salah—with respect—we have disagreed previously on whether Al-Sisi represents any sort of real reform in the Muslim world. This was always pretty iffy—but you are now positing the idea that one of the most oppressive Shari’ah states in the world, run as a fiefdom by the corrupt and autocratic Al-Saud family—which has also been funding Da’wa and Jihad all over the world—is poised to usher in some sort of marvelous sea change in Dar-al-Islam.

I believe this crosses the line from irrational exuberance into pure fantasy.

Sisi is quite the rage these days. But Sisi is a devout Muslim, and realises that Islam is under grave danger. He himself poimts out that the patience of the world is running low.

What Sisi is telling the imams is to tone it down, or else the days of Islam are numbered.

Its the same strategy that Muslims have employed through the centuries -lie low if there is danger from a powerful enemy.

This time the “powerful enemy” is not a military one, it’s an intellectual one. Against such an enemy Islam is helpless.
You’re right, they’d better tone it down otherwise the days of Islam are numbered. But, by toning it down, the fall of Islam will come faster and faster.
          It’s a lose-lose situation; Islam is dying.

That fantasism indulged in by Salah has been there all along, for anyone able to extrapolate the logic of his unreasonably hopeful expectations of Muslims. When a Westerner indulges so, it’s most often due to PC MC; when someone from the Muslim world, like Salah, does it, we must reasonably suppose it is due (at least in part) to dhimmi reflexes.

My optimism has nothing to do with any PC/MC or dhimmi reflexes. It has everything to do with FACTS.
You, in the West, because of the corrupt MSM, are able to see only one side of the coin: Islamic Violence.
I, because of my Egyptian background, am able to see the other side of the coin: the gradual and inevitable FALL of Islam.
I’ve already posted many links backing my claim. It’s not my fault if you chose to overlook them.

Indeed, that is the most reasonable suspicion we should focus on. And the strategy DP111 adverting to here (essentially what I have called the “Better Cop” strategy) only works to the extent that there is a sufficient number of dupes in the West gullible enough to believe it (and, alas, such dupes abound throughout the West — even in the Counter-Jihad). As for Angemon’s question about the hundreds of millions of Muslims, that is easily answered by another reasonable suspicion we should cultivate — namely, that those seas of Muslims around the world voluntarily (in a Stockholm Syndrome sort of way) and fanatically follow what their Ulema tell them — for they truly believe their Ulema are faithfully preserving and transmitting Muhammad’s Sunna.

This is not my panicking and crying “OMG”, Salah. The idea that Islamic savagery is right now growing expoentially is quite well documented. I would like to believe, as you do, that this does not indicate a further emboldening of Muslims, but rather a collapse of their confidence—but one cannot base this on anything objective.

As I’ve said, I *do* believe that we can successfully oppose Islam, but this will take Infidels waking up and really opposing the threat.

I do not expect Islam to reform, nor for it to implode on its own.

          …………………………………………

The Muslim Brotherhood is just one Muslim group—albeit a very dangerous one.

But 80% of Egyptian Muslims still believe that brutal Shar’ah law is the revealed word of God, and 74% want to see it made the law of the land. Moreover, 75% of Muslims there believe Islamic law should apply to Infidels as well as Muslims.

95% there say Shari’ah should be used to settle family and property disputes; 70% want to see corporal punishment such as flogging.

Even more alarming, *81%* want to see stoning for adultery, and *86%* want to see the death penalty for apostasy.

67% say that it is bad that Egyptian law does not follow Shari’ah law closely enough.

          http://www.pewforum.org/2013/04/30/the-worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-beliefs-about-sharia/

All in all, these figures are *deeply* disturbing. While some Egyptian Muslims may oppose the Muslim Brotherhood politically, very few actually oppose them ideologically.

I’ve already posted numerous links backing my claim that millions of Muslims are indeed turning away from Islam in the recent years. Most of them are according to Muslim scholars themselves. There is some kind of panic all over the Muslim world because of that. Islam is like a cornered mouse, all he can do now is fight to the death.
You’re right, Islam will never reform. Muslim leaders and scholars also are cornered. They have one last option left: try to reform Islam before it’s too late. By doing so, they won’t save it, they’ll only precipitate its collapse.
This is why I’m happy when I see reformers; they’re actually destroying Islam.
As for the Pew polls, please forget it. Most Poll centers are as PC as most Western leaders. The proof is here for all to see: The Egyptian Uprising.

Egypt has the largest military, but not necessarily the best supplied. It is unclear if Egypt has sufficient fuel and ammunition for 30 days of full scale combat. saudi arabia in contrast has ample fuel and quite likely more than 30 days supply of munitions. If it runs out, the U.S. will do a supply run for them. The US may not do a supply run for Egypt quite so readily at this moment.

The Egyptians have the illusion of the largest military in the region size wise, but I can absolutely assure you that when tactics and morale in into it, the Egyptians have a poor record of combat discipline under fire, the Iranians Republican Guard can and do walk over the Egyptian so called Elite units in fire control, unit formation, etc the most combat hardened and experienced units are in the Iranian military, bar none. Not even the Saudi military can match them, the US military holds up Saudi , as for the house of Saudi I have no empathy or sympathy for them at all, neither should any freedom loving westerner, the Saudi regime is a spawn from hell, they deserve to fall by the hand of ISIS.

By the way, the T72B tanks used in Iran are the real deal, the US never fought the Russian 72B tanks in GW1 or GW2, the Iranians have over 500 T72Bs, (3rd Gen), only the SAA field T72Bs……..

Egypt will not need or have to use its military to defend Saudi sovereignty against Iran. Iran has an ok military but thats neutralized by Turkey, Pakistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, ISIS, NATO, and the USA. It would be suicide for Iran to make a move. They are tip-toeing lightly just helping their ally Assad of Syria. This is the real reason they want their own nuclear deterrent, they’re surrounded by Sunni and Western aggressors.

If we’d been proper dhimmis we wouldn’t have dared even say anything critical. After all, Muslims have every “right” to kidnap and terrorize the Kuffar, and if think otherwise that is “aggression”.

The fact is that Iran has kidnapped, imprisoned, disappeared, and likely murdered Americans since.

If Iran were unfettered by the West, it would have wiped ISIS from Syria and Iraq in weeks. Yes Voegel, thankfully Iran does intervene in civil wars against Sunnis or we would now have Sharia law in Syria, Egypt and Iraq. Your Rightards – John McCain and Lindsey Graham were big backers for Sunni insurgents in Syria, can you imagine the slaughter if they had ousted Assad? Also, why don’t all three of you tally up how many Christians the Shiites murdered throughout history then compare it to your buddies the Sunnis. I bet Sunnis win 10,000 to I. When sunni turks were exterminating all their Armenian citizens (2,500,000) many fled to Iran and were fed and sheltered, later emigrating to Armenia.

This is *especially* grotesque, considering there isn’t a single non-Muslim place of worship in the whole country, that they regularly raid house churches and arrest anyone present, and that they confiscate even such items of private worship as Bibles and crucifixes at the airport on entry.

Moreover, “filthy Infidels” are not even allowed into Mecca. There are signs on the highways leading into the city indicating lanes for Kuffar which don’t enter the city. This cutoff is known colloquially as the “Christian Bypass”.

IDs are checked for anyone entering the city. Any Infidel flouting this will be arrested. Most are deported, but an Infidel from Sri Lanka who had spent some time in Mecca before being detected was sent to a Shari’ah court. Daniel Pipes, who covered the story in 2007, has been unable to find out the poor man’s fate. Infidels have long been killed who entered Mecca, and this penalty is still on the books. Infidels are similarly barred from Medina.

This promotes “understanding between faiths”, all right—the understanding that Muslims treat “unbelievers” as oppressed second-class citizens at best.

Anyone who knows about the Middle East will say that it is the House of Saud that is funding the radicalisation or Arabisation of the Islamic world. They fund these Jihad nutters to stay away, by funding nut job mosques in Europe.

For example Pakistanis in Britain were of Indian culture 40 years ago, The women wore saris and the men wore Jinnah hats. Now they wear burkas and nightshirts. Why? Because of Saudi funded mosques,

The fat greedy Saudi family are feeding the crocodile hoping it will eat them last. But I have news for the House of Saudi. Abu Bakr and ISIS are coming for you! Just like when the ‘Prophet’ took Mecca. It is only a short step from Iraq to Saudi. And when Abu Bakr comes for Medina and Mecca like the ‘Prophet’ what will you do?

The Saudis fund the mosques and the stealth Jihad, especially in the West. The Iranians support the hot Jihad by providing weapons and training for warfare. The Saudis are one edge, and the Iranians are the other edge of the same sword.

untested saudi military with shiny western weapon systems vs battle experience but poorly equipped isis and iranian forces. Loser(s) would be the first to panic and flee. However, being islamic, all are equally cowardly, so any conflict is likely be a stalemate.

Current (and future) scenario, al saud family trying to save its own rear ends and continue to fund and equip (covertly or otherwise) isis to pile up the heat in iraq and syria to keep both isis and iran occupied. iran’s power play in yemen is the reciprocal of this saudi action. One thing is certain, as these holes on earth keep going at each other, they will eventual go bankrupt.

“The strangest thing about Islam is how few of the world-wide Umma actually know the Qur’an and Sunnah from personal reading and study since the majority can’t read or write Arabic. The Imams can lead most of them in any direction they please. ”

        — the meme here being that, essentially, most Muslims really aren’t… Islamic; they are decent, hapless victims of a Tiny Minority of Extremist Clerical Elites. So Westman’s ludicrously benevolent statement about Saudi “mourning”, we see, is really a graciously paternalistic tip of the pith helmet to all those millions of decent not-really-Islamic Muslims Who Just Wanna Have a Pita Sandwich.

Westman, the main purpose of Jihad Watch is to warn Infidels of the threat of Jihad and Shari’ah, *not* to pretend that these are not horrors in the hope that some Muslims may then—somehow—decide to change.

Considering the Saudi regime deeply abhorrent is not “painting it black”—it *is* black, and pretending it is not does nothing to help, I’m afraid.

        More:

I must give credit to the King for sharing wealth with his citizens and hope this largesse continues…

Giving money to a population will always cause exponential growth, and that additional growth is creating more poverty…
        …………………………………

Growth, as a rule, does not “create poverty”. And the idea that a nation’s wealth belongs to the autocratic potentate and that if he bestows some of that wealth on his cronies that it is “largesse” is, I’m afraid, part of the problem.

        More:

The more educated Saudis become the more likely they are to modify their view of Islam.
        …………………………………

This hasn’t happened so far. Muslims just develop a superficial gloss of education; they do not actually abandon Islam and embrace ideas of democracy and equality.

        More:

It’s also true that there is great greed and corruption among the Princes and they get an unfair percentage of the wealth. Curtailing this was one of King Abdullah’s objectives toward the end of his life.
        …………………………………

Considering the fact that he headed the House of Saud, this seems unlikely. Hopeful Westerners have long wanted to see the latest Saudi “prince” as a reformer, but this has never been the case.

        More:

Nonetheless, I hope that wealth given to the average Saudi will continue while the Prince portion decreases. Most of all I hope the education benefits will increase and cause the control of Imams to decrease.
        …………………………………

In any even semi-free nation, individuals generate their own wealth—it is not distributed by the local warlord.

        More:

Could I be excused for thinking that black and white thinking usually leads to war when what we really want is change? If anyone should be asked to speak about Islam in our communities, our message will not be heard if it simply sounds like anger toward a people.
        …………………………………

Muslims are *already* waging war against us. Do you really believe that if we don’t get angry about the murders of cartoonists, journalists, police officers, off-duty servicemen, Jewish shoppers, and patrons of chocolate cafes that it will all just go away?

        More:

Even war cannot change Islam, because it has no central authority to defeat. There is no Emperor-God to come with his hat in hand. There is only the Book and the Sunnah, and they can spawn many more Jihadists unless there is a world attitude, world-wide including the world of the Umma, that this evil, and will be resisted.
        …………………………………

Actually, Islam has been driven back many times—at Poitiers, at Lepanto, at the Gates of Vienna; from Spain, from Portugal, from Greece, from the Balkans, from piracy in the Mediterranean, and most recently, from piracy off the coast of Somalia.

The idea that any of this has ever rested on some sort of reform among Muslims is mistaken.

Such reform would be lovely, of course—but it has never happened, and is unlikely to happen through the efforts of the despised “filthy Kuffar”.

        More:

Someone wrote: “The Radical Muslims want to cut your head off, and the Moderate Muslims want the Radical Muslins to cut your head off.” Perhaps there are also, “Frightened Muslims”, who have little choice, and don’t want any of it.
        …………………………………

Let’s assume that this is true. “Frightened Muslims” are unlikely to have any influence on their violent coreligionists, nor are the likely to come to the aid of threatened and brutalized Infidels. We can acknowledge their existence, but this represents a dead end, and yet more proof that Islam is unlikely to reform.

        More:

“Westman, you’ve made some great comments since you began posting here. So—are you *really* serious with the above? I understand, all of this was included when I wrote:” .. what I think of Islamic doctorine and the Royals part in spreading Wahhabism..”
        …………………………………

In that case, I’m not sure what you find to praise in this appalling regime.

        More:

There is a famous line in the movie Lawrence of Arabia: “With Major Lawrence, mercy is a passion. With me, it is merely good manners”
        …………………………………

That line is spoken by Prince Feisal. Now, any film is a fictionalization, at least to an extent. You seem to take it at face value, though, that this Saudi prince indeed practiced “mercy” as a matter of course, and seem to imply that this holds with all members of this tribe.

But—as just one example—Prince Feisal after later being installed as King of Iraq presided over the horrifying Simele massacre, a continuation of the Armenian Genocide that specifically targeted Assyrian Christians. And the massacre was just the final atrocity in a policy of mass-murdering Assyrians.

When British officials questioned Feisal about his role in the genocide, he denied that it had happened at all—even though he was widely suspected of himself giving the order of the killing of all Assyrian males.

I’m not sure where you think this fits in with Feisal’s “mercy” and “good manners”.

As I said, you have made some very good comments here—but Saudi Arabia is one of the very worst Shari’ah states, and I cannot see any gain from pretending that this is not so.

“The more educated Saudis become the more likely they are to modify their view of Islam.”

gravenimage’s response was fine, but also could have added the searingly apposite fact (utterly undigested in Westman’s ruminant stomach on its way to his brain) that studies have shown that most Muslim terrorists are in fact university educated (and consider, just to pluck one example from a keffiyeh one could adduce, that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the head of ISIS, has a Ph.D. in Islamic studies).

“The implication that I am baffled and clueless is false.”

You were baffled that Westman could be previously posting good stuff; and now countenancing the evil and dnagerous Saudi regime and Saudi Muslim society. Whether this means you were “clueless” about Westman or not, is a matter of interpretation, not fact. It seems to me you assume that when someone like Westman posts salutary stuff about Islam, he then can’t be PC MC. It’s a common instinct in the Counter-Jihad — and it thrives I think largely because of the under-appreciated phenomenon I have termed “asymptotic” — which is a term precisely adverting to this strange phenomenon of the otherwise anti-Islamic person showing various signs, tics, reflexes, farts and burps that make sense only as residues or indications of a still operative PC MC (if only in part — which is the point). Once we are aware that this phenomenon exists, and once we take the time to understand its nature and features (as best we can, of course), we can become better able to detect it. You evidently had not detected it in Westman before, and when he evinced that odd burp about the Saudi regime, you suddenly begann to notice something amiss. His subsequent response to you which you ably dissected shows how profoundly asymptotic he is — if not positively PC MC. Why are you quibbling with me on this?

    So, there are no losers.

Does leading a life of self-ihdulgent luxury and dying of pneumonia at the ripe old age of 90 qualify him for 72 virgins? I thought that was only for jihadis!

Absolutely nothing will happen internally or globally with the death of this fossilized turd. Any aggression by Iran will bring immediate U.S. and NATO retaliation. Russia would love to see a Saudi implosion but the dead King has dozens of successors. China, like the USA, will fall over itself to show its total submission to the kingdom.

The feckless Obama wouldn’t send a dog catcher to the French Solidarity March but I bet he will personally be washing and kissing the feet ( maybe ass ) of this new Saudi King.

I’m also sorry for the passing of your border collie. Years ago I gave a BC puppy to my in laws, at about 13 she died and even 6 years later they still grieve for her.

“Could the death of Abdullah be the Iranians’ moment?”

Excellent question. They will certainly try to exploit it, but the Saudi system is that of a well-entrenched family and tribe. There seems little likelihood of the tribe being knocked out of the driver’s seat.

Iran could never become the leader of the Islamic world, Iran is hardcore SHIA and 80% of Muslims are SUNNI – Iran already is the leader of the “Shia” and will remain as such.

Saudi Arabia has “Mecca” and that big black rock weird thing that they worship and is of course Salafi hardcore Wahabi Sunni.

King Abdullah’s death won’t change nothing in and of itself. One Salafi King on to the next Salafi King as the French say: The King is Dead, Long Live the King (move on).

The real question in my mind (and perhaps fantasy): Can another Sunni country which is moderate become the next leader of the Sunni Muslims world wide. Of course, there are no Sunni Muslim countries really thrusting towards Moderate/Secular (the days of Kemal Ataturk / Naser are long long long gone!)

Love Jihadwatch. (Mr. Spencer great job and highly appreciated)

Iran is not only the leader of Shia Islam, it is also an active promoter of bloody civil war against Sunnis in various hot spots (most intensely, Iraq).

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but the king’s name was Abdullah ibn Abdilaziz. That roughly translates to “slave of allah son of slave of the almighty”.

    Aren’t muslim names wonderfully diverse?

In my cartoon there is a big sign that says “Mahometans Expedited Here” with a big arrow. The sign is drawn to look like that apartheid sign that directs people into Mecca. Behind the entry gate is a large slippery slide down into a darkness below. It’s greased with oil. Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. Down they go.

The Saudis should have been crushed within days after 9/11 — but then who would have paid our politicians and subverted our academic institutions?

The new caliphate cannot possibly be taken seriously until it overruns and control Mecca and Medina —
will our khalifa Barry Sotero paay foir that too?

    • Markos Spelios says

      Jan 24, 2015 at 12:55 pm

Totally agree Prinz Eugen. We definitely invaded the wrong country after 911, but the Bushes had their heads so far up the asses of the Saudis that it wasn’t even on the table. To stop cold the onslaught of muslim colonization we need elected officials with zero connections to Middle East oil money and absolutely no connections with islam. I despise Bush Jr. almost as much as our rat brained president Obama.

Obamas friend King Abdullah was reported to be be starving four of his daughters to death in a house in Riyadh because their mother had left him and fled to London perhaps Obama could inquire as to their wellbeing, I mean he cares so much about the jihadis in quantanamo.

The national flags are flying at half-mast on all public buildings including our parliament in respect for Saudi oil and Islamic thuggery and honouring a state that has appalling human rights record.

Both Cameron and Prince Charles have gone to show the UK’s dhimmi status will be maintained under the new king and to ask that Saudi money will continue to fund mosque building, the spread of Wahhabism and Islam through our universities. In return for these ‘benefits’ we will continue to allow in as many Muslims as we can get. After all we only have 3.4 million living here.
