A Jihad Watch reader in the Sacramento area has sent me this flier (click to enlarge), showing that today is NP3 Hijab Day at NP3 High School. NP3 stands for Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep; the school is in the Natomas Unified School District in Sacramento. This all started with a student at NP3 High who is an intern for the Hamas-linked terror organization the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). This student gave a presentation about Islamophobia and Islam at what was a mandatory staff meeting that also included an official CAIR representative.
The school then now decided to sponsor an official “Hijab Day” in cooperation with Hamas-linked CAIR. The flier also shows that another Muslim Brotherhood-linked organization, the Muslim Students Association, is also involved. Every female member of the faculty and staff, and students as well, has been encouraged to wear a hijab today. NP3’s principal, Tom Rutten, has been strongly encouraging everyone to participate and wear one.
Please contact Tom Rutten and let him know, politely and courteously, that there are religion-and-state issues involved here, and also that public schools should not be working with groups that have demonstrable and proven links to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. Also ask him when is NP3 Priest Collar and Nun Habit Day, and when is NP3 Kippah Day — or is it only Islam that gets this treatment? Ask him when is NP3’s day to honor women and girls who have been brutalized and murdered for not wearing hijab. Ask him why he is celebrating a garment that is, for all too many women, a sign of oppression and misogyny. Rutten is at 916-567-5740.
Scott Dosick is President of the Board of Trustees of the Natomas Unified School District. He is at sdosick@natomas.k12.ca.us. Remember that over at Hamas-linked CAIR they will be licking their chops and ready to pounce on any indication that Rutten or Dosick have been getting “hate messages” or “threats.” Do not give them ammunition in their jihad against freedom: be polite, courteous and reasonable in all communications, limiting discussion to asking calmly why Islam is getting this preferential treatment in a public school.

First “Hijab Day”, then “Insult Those Who Don’t Wear Hijab Day”, followed by “Rape Those Who Don’t Wear Hijab Day” and finally “Kill Those Who Don’t Wear Hijab Day”.
Those last three may take place 365 days per year (366 on leap years).

I do respect other religions including all non-violent Muslims, but there does appear to be a pattern that may be supported by the data below (could not verify). Food for thought, anyway. Immigration must take into account how quickly (and if) different people can be assimilated into its overall system of values. If they don’t respect our system of laws, won’t support our country over others, and repect different religions, then perhaps they should not come here. We have had many approaches to immigration through the years. Immigration is a good thing, but when is the last time there was a good honest discussion about it? How many people have any idea how many will be admitted and from where? What could be the impact on our culture? Otherwise, we could be France in a few years with whole sections that have their own laws.
Just sayin’
Here is a perspective by Dr. Peter Hammond. Dr. Hammonds
doctorate is in Theology. He was born in Capetown in 1960,
grew up in Rhodesia and converted to Christianity in 1977.
Adapted from Dr. Peter Hammond’s book: Slavery,
Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary
Threat:
Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life. Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard
for all of the other components.
Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to
agitate for their religious privileges.
When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse
societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious
privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as
well..
Here’s how it works:
As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2%
in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:
United States — Muslim 0..6%
Australia — Muslim 1.5%
Canada — Muslim 1.9%
China — Muslim 1.8%
Italy — Muslim 1.5%
Norway — Muslim 1.8%
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic
minorities and disaffected groups, often with major
recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is
happening in:
Denmark — Muslim 2%
Germany — Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom — Muslim 2.7%
Spain — Muslim 4%
Thailand — Muslim 4.6%
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population.
For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamicstandards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for
Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature
halal on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply.
This is occurring in:
France — Muslim 8%
Philippines — Muslims 5%
Sweden — Muslim 5%Switzerland
— Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago — Muslim 5.8%
At this point, they will work to get the ruling government
to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos)
under Sharia, the Islamic Law.
The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law
over the entire world.
When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to
increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their
conditions.
In Paris, we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non Muslim
action offends Islam, and results in uprisings and threats,
such as in Amsterdam, with opposition to Mohammed cartoons
and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:
Guyana — Muslim 10%
India — Muslim 13.4%
Israel — Muslim 16%
Kenya — Muslim 10%
Russia — Muslim 15%
After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting,
jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:
Ethiopia — Muslim 32.8%
At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:
Bosnia — Muslim 40%
Chad — Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon — Muslim 59.7%
From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the
tax placed on infidels, such as in:
Albania — Muslim 70%
Malaysia — Muslim 60.4%
Qatar — Muslim 77.5%
Sudan — Muslim 70%
After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some
State-run ethnic cleansing, and even some genocide, as these
nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim,
such as has been experienced and in some ways is on-going
in:
Bangladesh — Muslim 83%
Egypt — Muslim 90%
Gaza — Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia — Muslim 86.1%
Iran — Muslim 98%
Iraq — Muslim 97%
Jordan — Muslim 92%
Morocco — Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan — Muslim 97%
Palestine — Muslim 99%
Syria — Muslim 90%
Tajikistan — Muslim 90%
Turkey — Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates — Muslim 96%
100% will usher in the peace of ‘Dar-es-Salaam’ —
the Islamic House of Peace.. Here there’s supposed to be
peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the Madrasses are the
only schools, and the Koran is the only word, such as in:
Afghanistan — Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia — Muslim 100%
Somalia — Muslim 100%
Yemen — Muslim 100%
Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100%
states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred,
and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical
Muslims, for a variety of reasons.’Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan
against the tribe; the tribe against the world, and all of
us against the infidel. — Leon Uris, ‘The Haj’
It is important to understand that in some countries, with
well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the
minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which
they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia
Law.The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are
no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious
facilities.. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate
into the community at large. The children attend madrasses.
They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an infidel
is a crime punishable with death.
Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams
and extremists exercise more power than the national average
would indicate.
Today’s 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world’s
population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of
Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world’s population by the end of this century.

You are right about all the rest though I differ on cults.
What I make of cults,; is when you want to leave for what ever reason, then you can not leave easily.
If a group makes it difficult like imprisonment that is easy to figure.
If a group threatens that their “God” will do bad things to you then it is a form of mind control, usually as already they know much about you, and your psychological make up.
Threats of physical harm or death is the ultimate definition of a cult and people in islam are ok with that.
So it is a cult and no doubts about that in my humble opinion,

Thank you for sharing your perspective, AP2015 …but I see absolutely *nothing* worthy of ANY respect within islam; due to how inherently evil its tenets are, so I am somewhat surprised that you made such a broak statement which includes islam. I must ask, have you read the quran and hadiths? If so, then you ought to know what I mean. Granted, not all muslims are terrorists, but the vast majority of terrorists ARE muslims.
And you also stated that islam is “not a cult”, which I completly disagree with, as well; in fact, islam is a *dangerous* death cult.

I just spoke to Mr. Rutten, and I explained to him my concern about separation of mosque and state, and he told me this is not an issue here, since this was a student-run idea, and the school administration itself was not promoting it. He repeatedly denied that he, or any administration person, encouraged students to wear a hijab. I read to him from the article ” NP3’s principal, Tom Rutten, has been strongly encouraging everyone to participate and wear one.” He said this was totally false. I then asked him if it would be appropriate if Christian students wanted to have a “promote the cross day”, and he said that would be OK with him. I thanked him and wished him a good day, and he replied likewise. It was all very pleasant.

Here is a report of just over a year ago of hijab day at Natomas school.
http://www.natomasbuzz.com/2013/12/natomas-students-promote-hijab-awareness/
Although dated Dec 2013, for a Natomas school in Sacramento, I figure this will continue as per “the MSA Club plans to have more events after winter break”. –
and how these young children while wearing the hijab for the day with their concerns are not happy about “islamphobia” and if you are, then you have an “illiterate mind”. That is what their teachers are indoctrinating.
Where does it stop? A student “has been wearing a Hijab for her senior project for nine weeks ”
As those girls looked so happy and with their expression of free speech and “imagery”,supported by the teaching staff and school administration, in the name of multiculturalism , all due respect should be given with free speech/expression and hail to the FSM “flying spaghetti monster” (doctrine free, dogma free, except for smiles, giggles and laughter and to be accorded) and possibly the son of “Russell’s teapot”
Although difficult we must also maintain our “freedom of speech/expression” such as the “flying spaghetti monster”, that should be ok as a glorious symbol to be worn on our heads too, for giggling and “laughter is the best medicine” It is believed that it so important, as It can cure so many ailments in our life and society.
A stage one may have to go through in the beginning so you may have to plead forgetfulness, or some such mild disorder, and why should people be worried about your behaviour, as you seek the cure, in ” ” “FSM” or which ever you find is the best for you.
May you find in this world much free speech/expression that inspire contagious smiles, giggles and laughter.

I’m that girl that dedicated her senior project. Hijab Day is a day where the school and it’s students have the opportunity to show their acceptance and support for the religion of Islam. It is an educational day, where students learn about the religion, that is so often misrepresented. This day is completely optional and no one forces any one to participate in it. We are a school that has multiple organizations that represent different cultures and religions, so that our student body is well informed and educated. In no way shape or form, did this day promote violence or terrorism. This article has many false statements and is very ill-informed.

“This article has many false statements and is very ill-informed” so you S says.
The article I referred to which I provided a link so any one that had a pique of curiosity could see where I had drawn the brief summary from.
Please detail me where the false statements are or the errors in my comments
Just what are you studying during those 9 weeks wearing the hijad? It may not be your fault as the muslim student association MSA and your teacher may not allow you to read the koran? ?
Have you a copy of the koran? You can get a bonafide properly approved English translation (there are only 5) that is recognized as an approved translation. or you can google and read a copy.
Then you can google to understand about “abrogation” and find the chronological order of the koran. Once you have that you will then get the gist of the Meccan verses and the Medina verses. It can be read
So you can see that where Mohammad speaks of choice and no pressure in religion, see if you can find this after the abrogation when he moves to Medina?
I am sure your are now aware of isis and al quaida and their direction for attacks and the Paris massacres, said to be defending mohammad. and relies heavily on the koran hadiths and sira.
How can you defend the perfect man that leads ALL muslims if you have already read the koran all the way through and weighed up the abrogation in the koran.
To also read the hadiths like Bukari that supports a lot of the koran.
Although those 2 books are not an easy read , then afterwards I will know that you have a truly literate mind, as you will then have to weigh up just what is meant by multicultural ideas. All not so easy.
Although difficult we must also maintain our “freedom of speech/expression” such as the “flying spaghetti monster”, that should be ok as a glorious symbol to be worn on our heads too, . It is believed that it so important, as It can cure so many ailments in our life and society.for giggling and “laughter is the best medicine”. I am pleased you are not offended by me wearing undies or pajamas on my head when I feel the need arises, and what a great lot of giggles and laughs we would have.
So I wish you well on this next step of your studies.

This small minority of the Muslim population that you refer too, are that in itself, a small minority. There are over 8 billion Muslims in the world, and less than 1% of the Muslim population are associated with these terrorist groups. We acknowledge that there are extremists in the religion of Islam; however there are extremists in all religions that do things the the rest do not condone. Think to the KKK or the WBC.
And you must remember that the Quaran, is a living text, just as the Bible or the Torah. In all texts there are things that are written that are aren’t accepted in many countries, such as stoning. We also have to remember that there are places in the world that are a bit more backwards, however that was not what this day was about. The day was about shining a little on the majority of Muslims. The majority of the Muslims who are peaceful, kind, compassionate, etc. The majority of Muslims who are our neighbors, our doctors, our US Representatives, etc. If Islam is a violent religion and therefore all it’s practitioners are violent, then why aren’t we afraid of these specific individuals?
And I was studying what it was like to be a muslim woman in my city. I wanted to see the stares, I wanted to hear the comments, and I wanted to be asked the questions. And I wanted to use my experience as a personal example, to educate others to think before they judge an individual and their beliefs.

“We acknowledge that there are extremists in the religion of Islam; however there are extremists in all religions that do things the the rest do not condone.”
The so-called “extremists” in islam are only following what islam mandates. If islam says “chop the hand of the thief” they chop. If islam says “kill apostates” they kill. Islamic terrorists quote from the quran and the life of muhammad to justify their actions. You don’t see christian “extremists” chopping off heads or driving planes into buildings and quoting from the Bible of the life of Jesus to justify their actions.
“Think to the KKK or the WBC.”
The KKK was a white supremacist group. Don’t know what is WBC.
“And you must remember that the Quaran, is a living text, just as the Bible or the Torah.”
See, now I know you’re lying to me. I have seen qurans in 4 languages and several translations, and every single one of them said something along this lines: the quran is the immortal word of allah that has always existed in heaven alongside allah, that the quran is timeless and unchangeable, and that islam is the perfect religion. The Bible and the Torah don’t claim to be the direct word of God who has always existed in Heaven alongside God. We know that the Bible was written during hundred and hundreds of years by several authors, allegedly inspired by God. Don’t try to piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining, S.
“In all texts there are things that are written that are aren’t accepted in many countries, such as stoning. We also have to remember that there are places in the world that are a bit more backwards, however that was not what this day was about.”
See above reply.
“The day was about shining a little on the majority of Muslims. The majority of the Muslims who are peaceful, kind, compassionate, etc. The majority of Muslims who are our neighbors, our doctors, our US Representatives, etc.”
See video above for 411 on the “majority of peaceful muslims”.
“If Islam is a violent religion and therefore all it’s practitioners are violent, then why aren’t we afraid of these specific individuals?”
I can think of 3 reasons:
1 – Because they were lucky enough to be born and raised on society based on Judaic-Christian values, and islam isn’t the sole influence on their lives.
2 – Just because one calls himself a muslim there’s no assurance that he or she knows and abides by all the rules of islam.
3 – Taqqiyah
You’re doing things backwards, S. If you want to know what a religion teaches you don’t look at what a given individual does and assume it’s because of his/her religion. You go straight to the texts. I know catholics that practice birth control. Does this mean that the Catholic Church sanctions the use of birth control? Of course i doesn’t.
“And I was studying what it was like to be a muslim woman in my city. I wanted to see the stares, I wanted to hear the comments, and I wanted to be asked the questions.”
So you wanted attention. Well, you got it.
“And I wanted to use my experience as a personal example, to educate others to think before they judge an individual and their beliefs.”
That makes no sense. Are you saying that if we know what islam mandates and what it teaches we shouldn’t judge an individual that chose to abide by those rules and commandments?
Finally, S, one big question: where and how did the terrorism-linked CAIR and MSA came into your project?
S says
I meant 1.8 billion muslims in the world, which is 23% of the world’s population.

Hi S.
The very first comment that you replied to my comment just does not relate to “This article has many false statements and is very ill-informed..”
Then you explain it as it was per article and then bring a “straw man” argument “ “no way shape or form, did this day promote violence or terrorism.” , that as far as I can see in the articles or other commenters said that it was being promoted.
From that insinuation you then go on about “This article has many false statements and is very ill-informed. which infers that the article does promote terrorism being taught.
Then your next reply starts off on a tangent about numbers to try and also bring the point that the number of extremists are so low and extremist numbers are same as the Christians such as the KKK and WBC (Westboro Baptist Church)
I do realize that the KKK instigated a number of deaths and that thought pattern remained alive in the democrats as Senator RC at the beginning of his career started a chapter of it after WW2. Byrd was re-elected 9 times until his death in 2010.
The WBC at its very beginnings become unaffiliated even to the Baptist Church or any other denomination, and is decried by many churches.
The koran is a living text and so we can agree on the prescriptive direction that its gives when the “aborogation” verses
Truly a “living” text when you understand the Medina verses to bring death to “unbelievers”
Yes I do agree with you that personally at this “living” stage about the “majority of muslims that are our Doctors our US representatives,…… are peaceful”. That is as noted else where in many parts of the world when the % of number increase there becomes a living change.
So the bottom line ‘S’ the “living” koran will go to another stage when the society is changed to be more suitable and then be as advised by the words of Mohammad recorded in the koran and hadiths
As you say, you “wanted the attention, comments” and yet if you had dressed as the KKK that you mentioned, and showed the students how to fold the robes, and how to put the eye slits in the sheet, and then “use my experience as a personal example, to educate others to think before they judge an individual and their beliefs”
However you do everything to hide to those students the true words from the koran and hadiths and at the same time you do not disclose whether you have even read the koran, as I have mentioned in reply to your comment.
I do wonder if you have even bothered to read my reply, or any comments that are made on this thread.

Is the hijab 1) a ‘symbol of devotion to God’??? Or is it 2) a political symbol of male oppression?
The answer is 2) a political symbol of male oppression.
Women who do not wear a hijab are considered kafirs and slaves who may be ‘molested’ (i.e. ‘raped’) according to Koran 33.59.

This reminds me of an experiment an Iowa grade school teacher, Jane Elliott, did way way back in 1968 (and it was certainly not politically correct by today’s standards). Up above I have a little bit more information of reading the koran and on this site there is much study of the koran, or you can find your own site of English translations of which there are only 5 recognized and approved translations by Islamic scholars. An iman might put you onto a lighter translation, but it is not recognized by the schools of scholars.
I hope you will genuinely read them, so that you can get to know Mohammad, held as the “perfect man” to be followed by all muslims and even though you can ask questions of an iman, the words of the book as itself says, “not to be question” and there are consequences for a muslim that questions or wants to change his religion.

Half of you need to realize that you do not understand what the whole point of this day was. It wasn’t to encourage terrorists or brainwash the young. It was this girls senior project. She simply wanted to show her culture and what she believed in. There is nothing wrong with that. I find it absolutely appalling that just because she wanted the school to know more about this topic we have ignorant people who think they know what this school was doing take it totally out of hand. Unless you have deliberately gone to the school, have done your research about the schools event, and have gone to actually speak to the people involved. Then you shouldn’t be commenting at all because you don’t know the entirety of the situation. This was supposed to be a supportive culturally diverse day to embrace other cultures. That’s what Np3 is its a culturally diverse school that teaches it’s students to embrace their cultures, to stand up for their cultures, and to be aware of other people’s cultures. This isn’t some negative event and we as people need to except that there are people who are trying to make a change in this world.

Your point is a time wasting “strawman” as no one in the post or the following comments or in the report I linked to even said that.,so you fill the rest of your comment beating on it.
What was mentioned some of the practices that others had read of in other countries and even lived there, so directly knowing muslims and their beliefs cultures and practices, as guided by Mohammad which all muslims approve of as the “perfect man” Read the koran, understanding after working out the chronological order, and find the verses of “abrogation”.
What is being done is dawa,, that is proselytizing of Islam as she is on a “mission” to evangelizing for her Mohammad and Allah. She is not teaching as per religious study, as facts life and times where islam started but her ok life and problems as a muslima, and introduction to islam that is ok and to show how nice it is. Even she may not be so well read about the koran and hadiths, so please do read up about apostasy in different religions. She may need much help if she wants to change her religion.
show her culture and what she believed in
Yes believe in Mohammad the “perfect man” that all muslims follow and she had been studying him for at least 9 weeks and really had not read up the koran where all the words of Mohammad were recorded and then the hadiths, at least one such as the very reputable Bukhari
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahih_al-Bukhari
which I have mentioned in some earlier comments on this thread. Please read up on what she believes, as either she is a liar or she has been intellectually lazy and has not bothered to learn about the essential man that created this religion of islam.
There is a brief report
http://www.natomasbuzz.com/2013/12/natomas-students-promote-hijab-awareness/
which she has criticized my comment claiming “This article has many false statements and is very ill-informed” following her own statements, but she does not explain islam. and her beliefs.
embrace their cultures, to stand up for their cultures, and to be aware of other people’s cultures
sure it is good to stand up for people, but you do know that some parts of culture is abhorrent and causes a lot of problems, such as the tribe in New Guinea that eats the brains of their loved dead ones, that continues an infectious cycle like “Mad cow disease”
You say to be aware of other people’s cultures, and it seems that you do not look beyond to see what the actual facts are, So are you ok with “female genital mutilation” as Mohammad himself did say when in Medina, not to cut too deeply. though muslims say it is a thing of other nearby cultures which is also true.
Still for all the scholarly arguments in many of the countries of islalmic control, muslims still practice this, and in the western world and I know having meet nurses who have to have special consideration for woman (born in the western world) iwho have been fgm and the side effects.
The Rotterdam rapes over 1000 girls plus other towns as no social service person would speak out amd nor would the police help as they did not want to stir up a hornet’s nest and be accused of slamphobia. or racism.
except that there are people who are trying to make a change in this world.
Hurray strange to say we may be on the same side, as I want change, no more wars, more peace, as every one does, the people in Germany wanted peace in 1939 despite some people warning for ten years that their leader was selling them a “pig in a poke”. Still they let did not want to draw a line in the sand, so many tens no thousands ,no, hundreds of thousands were rounded up for forced labour camps and thousands of others disposed of,,while peace in our time was acclaimed,, yes before WW2 actually officially started.
And dammed if you or me want a war now, War is not a game as being currently played by the USA. You learn and know your enemy and so as and if you have to fight you do not play around. You go into win as soon as you can in the shortest time, or stay out and let the others die in their hundreds of thousands, if not millions, knowing that one side could be growing in strength. Knowing the world around you means that like President Theodore Roosevelt who had the “”speak softly, and carry a big stick.” and later as Winston Churchill said “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last”
These are the things to be properly worked out, so it may be possible to avert war.
Any enough said Although difficult we must also maintain our “freedom of speech/expression” such as the “flying spaghetti monster”, that should be ok as a glorious symbol to be worn on our heads too, . It is believed that it so important, as It can cure so many ailments in our life and society.for giggling and “laughter is the best medicine”. I am pleased you are not offended by me wearing undies or pajamas on my head whenever I feel the need arises, and what a great lot of giggles and laughs we would have.
So I wish you well on this next step of your studies.and those books to read

Did you learn about the origins of the Sikh religion and the struggles when muslims massacring Sikhs and how Sikhs retaliate in kind?
It seems that you were not evenly remotely interested in Sikhs, unless the teachers were going to test for how to put a turban on.
“S” said “use my experience as a personal example, to educate others to think before they judge an individual and their beliefs”
However she did do everything to hide to those students the true words from the koran and hadiths that are the basis of her beliefs.
If she wore KKK regalia would you have learnt not to judge an individual and their beliefs?
Surely you would have wanted to understand where her beliefs came from, and just what were her beliefs for wearing those clothes
The koran and hadiths is a major part of the beliefs of muslims showing them and teaching them that Mohammad is the ” perfect man” to be followed unquestionably by all muslims and to do so in full when they are able to.
Please read the koran, in chronological order (google)and also know that the Meccan verses are “abrogated” by the Medina verses.
All of that is supported by Bukhari hadiths
“Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī” Sunni Muslims view this as one of the three most trusted collections of hadith along with Sahih Muslim and Muwatta Imam Malik.[1] It is also used as an authentic hadith collection by Zaidi Shia Muslims.[2] In some circles, it is considered the most authentic book after the Quran.[3][4] The Arabic word sahih translates as authentic or correct.

Heather – Thank you for your comment. I respectfully disagree with the schools decision. If I were a parent, would remove my child from the school.
I strongly believe that the administrators and faculty are ignorant of Islam, which is a political system. Further, why would you welcome discourse with a known terrorist organization? You are blinding the children. Islam is an opponent of free speech. Islam does not get along well with other creeds and religions. Haven’t you been reading or watching the news?
I suggest educating yourself before you roll out the welcome mat to people who have declared war on you, your children, and your country.

Do you still stand by your statement, that “every single person of the Islamic culture is not a terrorist or affiliated with a terrorist organization”?
Heather says
You (as with all our parents) have the right to choose for your child where to go to school, and of course, I respect that decision. On this campus, we strive (expect/teach) to give our kids every opportunity for free/critical-thinking, to stand up for their beliefs and to accept other’s opinions without prejudice.
Our school is the most diverse school in the area, having most all beliefs of spirituality and religion represented. Sikhs and Muslims are the majority of our population. With our Sikh young men wearing turbans and our young ladies wearing the hijab, last year it became apparent (through student organized senior projects, not by admin/staff) that education as to what these headdresses represented (for these students specifically). Which spurred “Project Guardian” a campus-wide campaign of kindness (anti-bullying) that was also created/was run/and continues to be implemented by our students.
Prior to these student implemented educational opportunities, the misunderstand/ignorance/just not caring to know/what ever it was of our campus community (me included) was needed to bring our community together. We had GIA (God is Awesome) Club as well as MSA, BSU, etc. on campus. All of which could have done something like this to educate us about things they do/wear…but didn’t/haven’t yet and will support them too.

Chase, I don’t know Katnis’s views on this, but there are few people here who believe that *all* Muslims are terrorists or are affiliated with terrorist organizations. Most here understand – and certainly the founder of this website, Robert Spencer, understands – that there is a vast array of views among those who identify as Muslims regarding issues like Sharia Law and jihad, freedom of speech, etc. Spencer is constantly acknowledging that there are Many Muslims who are not out to subdue the unbelievers, many Muslims who cherry-pick from the texts, or who have never bothered to read the texts, or who wear their religion lightly. We *know* that such Muslims exist, and I myself have had several friendly acquaintances with such Muslims, including the 3 Turks who lived with my family for a while.
But aside from the Muslims who reject the political part of Mohammad’s example and the corresponding parts of the Koran, there are also a large portion of Muslims who, while not being jihadis in the violent, make war, not love, sense, are interested in helping the jihad to spread Islam and Islamic law by other means. They believe it is their duty to help bring about the aim of the Islamic texts – to bring the world under Islamic law through dawa and jihad/war. And Islamic law is not tolerant of dissent. It is not very tolerant of Christianity or Judaism, and completely intolerant of atheism and polytheism.
Islam, the religion, is a doctrine. Muslims, as human beings, have the capacity to take it all the way, following the doctrine and the example of Mohammad – which is scary stuff – or to water it down, ignore the political and jihad commands, and to choose only the best and ignore or rationalize the worst in the religious texts.
Unfortunately, there is a large portion of the Umma that takes the whole trilogy of Islamic texts – the Koran, the ahadith and the biography of Mohammad – as absolute and unquestionable, and aims to bring about the submission of everyone under Islamic rule. They are at war with the unbelievers both literally and in efforts to expand Islamic influence in the laws and cultural practices in non-Muslim countries. While I sympathize with any live-and-let-live partial Muslims among us, and do not want them to be harassed or otherwise abused (and people should not be abusing and harassing each other, in any case), it’s not easy – given the aims and actions of the activist group – to figure out who is who, or to feel confident that one knows who is who.
This is a very difficult situation for everyone.
I am not ignorant of the Koran and the Life of Mohammad. I also am not ignorant of what is going on in the world in places like Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen… and I know human nature well enough, after 60 years of living, to understand the bind gentle souls born into Islam are in today.
But it’s crucially important to recognize that our lives and our liberties *are* under threat by the full-on Muslims, whether by violence or other means, and that we need to learn all we can about their aims and strategies.
One of the many books I have read regarding the subject is “Muslim Mafia” by P. David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry. A note from the authors at the book’s beginning reads:
“A Note of Caution from the Authors – This is not a book about Islam or Muslims in general. It is about the threat from Shariah Islam and violent jihad propagated by a criminal class of Muslims known as the Muslim Brotherhood or the “Ikhwan mafia.” This secretive organization dominates most established Muslim groups and mosques in America while exploiting, manipulating, and even victimizing law-abiding Muslim Americans. Only a small share of the world’s 1.4 billion Muslims are part of this dangerous group. This book is about them.”
According to this book and many other sources, one of those groups is CAIR.
This is why people here are appalled that CAIR had anything to do with this event at the school.
katnis says
Chase – Your response shows that you are ignorant. I simply stated the truth: islam is a political system, many muslims have declared jihad on the western world, islam opposes free speech, and islam is not tolerant of other creeds and religions. I’ll ignore the personal insults, though they did give me a bit of a chuckle. Now go ahead and pick up a few books and start reading. I’m already assuming that you’ve never touched a koran. May I suggest you start there so you can draw your own conclusions?

Hello katniss
“Islam is a political system” is not a fact but an opinion. You may view Isalm in that way, but there are plenty of other people, both Muslim and non-Muslim, who view it as a religion sacred to others. There may be some aspects that we don’t agree, but aren’t religions like that? Protestantism began because Martin Luther did not agree with the Catholics practice of selling indulgences. What one religion finds acceptiible, we may not, but religion brings different perspectives into the world. Aren’t other religions also intolerant of other religions. Isn’t one of the Commandments in Christianity to recognize and worship God as the one and only true God?
Why only make out Islam to be the bad guy? History has shown us that plenty of other religions and races posed as threates to America. We ourselves have imposed religion onto others in the past. We Christians have also slaughtered people and taken land in the name of God. But we don’t look to each other with hate filled eyes.
The main purpose of this senior’s project was to bring awareness about the harsh treatment women face by wearing a hijab. Islam was never imposed on the students nor were the students ever forced to wear a hijab. The purpose was to bring understanding among those who had no clue the suffering many Muslim woman go through.

Protestantism or Catholicism don’t say that non-protestants or non-catholics are the worst of creatures and that it’s the duty of protestants or catholics to fight them until protestantism or catholicism rule the world.
“Aren’t other religions also intolerant of other religions.”
Only islam has a doctrine mandating warfare against, and subjugation of, other religions.

There’s a difference between doing something and claim it’s in the name of God (which goes against that commandment “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain”) and doing something because the word of allah unmistakably says you have to do it.

Anon said: “Islam is a political system” is not a fact but an opinion. You may view Isalm in that way, but there are plenty of other people, both Muslim and non-Muslim, who view it as a religion sacred to others…”
TheBuffster says: This is not an opinion, but a fact. Islam is both a religion and a political system. Mohammad was not only the Prophet of Islam, but a king and a warrior, and the Koran and the example of Mohammad’s life created the blueprint for how an Islamic State was to rule, and how it was to make war and conquer and spread.
Some Muslims may ignore the ugly parts of their religion, may cherrypick the better parts and blank out the part about the duty to wage jihad against the unbeliever, but as we see in the world today, there is a significant number of Muslims who are right into the whole jihad example of Mohammad and his followers. The jihadis aim to impose the sharia law on everbody – a law that includes the stoning to death of adulterers, the murder of homosexuals by throwing them off of a mountain top (or, as in the recent case performed by the Islamic State, from a tall building), the killing of those who leave the Islamic faith…
When we talk about Islam, we aren’t talking about the cut-and-paste, partial version practiced by gentle people who just want to live and let live. We’re talking about the doctrine *as it’s written* and as it’s followed by orthodox, fundamentalist Muslims who consider the partial Muslims to be heretics, hypocrites, apostates, and deserving of death.
Anon: “There may be some aspects that we don’t agree, but aren’t religions like that? Protestantism began because Martin Luther did not agree with the Catholics practice of selling indulgences. What one religion finds acceptiible, we may not, but religion brings different perspectives into the world. Aren’t other religions also intolerant of other religions. Isn’t one of the Commandments in Christianity to recognize and worship God as the one and only true God?”
TheBuffster: Anon, were’ talking about a religion that today, in our time, includes a significant number of people who believe in it in the old-time religion way, and when I say old-time, I mean 7th century Arabia. The disagreement I have with the Prophet Mohammad is that I don’t believe homosexuals should be beaten up or killed for holding hands in public, that women should be stoned to death for adultery, nor for being raped but not being able to prove it was rape. I disagree that Muslims should be executed if they convert to some other religion. I disagree that people who mock the prophet should be killed. I disagree that Islam should be spread by the sword, that captive women should be made sex slaves, and that women should be forced to wear hijab or niqab or a burqa or face punishment … and there’s so much more that I disagree with in Islam.
There are things I disagree with in Christianity and Judaism, too. But the worst parts of the Old Testament aren’t being practiced or pushed in the modern world, and Jesus pretty much nixed all the nasty stuff when he stopped people from stoning the adultress. He also told his followers not to punish disbelievers, but just leave them alone – it wasn’t up to men to punish disbelief. That was up to God’s judgment. So when Christians later did nasty things in Christ’s name, they were going *against* his example.
Mohammad actually *approved* when his followers murdered the people who mocked him.
Yes. I disagree with Mohammad about that. And since he was the founder of Islam, and held by the Koran to be the perfect example for Muslims to follow, I think there’s a bit of a problem here.
Anon: “Why only make out Islam to be the bad guy? History has shown us that plenty of other religions and races posed as threates to America. We ourselves have imposed religion onto others in the past. We Christians have also slaughtered people and taken land in the name of God. But we don’t look to each other with hate filled eyes. ”
TheBuffster: I’m not a big fan of religion myself, but as an atheist I’m not scared of any of the other religions I know of in the world *today*. I’m only afraid of Islam. Why? Because it’s the only religion *today*, in my lifetime, here-and-now, with a large number of fanatics who zealously aim to imitate Mohammad in all things, and impose their monstrous religion/social system on everyone. Well, everyone that they allow to live. That wouldn’t be me.
Anon: “The main purpose of this senior’s project was to bring awareness about the harsh treatment women face by wearing a hijab. Islam was never imposed on the students nor were the students ever forced to wear a hijab. The purpose was to bring understanding among those who had no clue the suffering many Muslim woman go through.”
TheBuffster: “…The harsh treatment women face by wearing a hijab…The purpose was to bring understanding among those who had no clue the suffering many Muslim woman go through.” Hmm.
I have no doubt that women wearing a hijab or niqab or burqa in the West often get unpleasant looks and sometimes nasty comments. That is unfortunate and shouldn’t happen. They have my sympathy, especially if they aren’t supporters of jihad or of sharia law.
But I think while we are considering the unpleasantness these women and girls face in the West for wearing the hijab, we should give a thought to those women and girls in some Muslim lands and in the harsher households and Islamic ghettos in the West where girls are physically punished if they *refuse* to wear hijab. I think we should consider the harsh treatment and suffering of women in those most severely Sharia-compliant countries where a man can divorce his wife by simply saying “I divorce you”, but a woman has to get permission from an imam if she wants a divorce, and he might not grant it; where the testimony of a woman in court is worth only half that of a man; where a girl’s father chooses her husband; where a woman can be beaten if she disobeys her husband and is not permitted to leave the house without being escorted by a male member of her household. This is not in some distant past. This is today. And this is what jihadis and their supporters want to spread throughout the Middle East and the rest of the world.
Sure, people shouldn’t be rude to a girl for wearing a hijab. But given what’s going on in the world, perhaps liberty-friendly Muslim women should reconsider wearing clothing that is so strongly associated with the resurgence of the old-time Islamic religion in the 20th and 21st centuries. It wasn’t that long ago – within my lifetime – that most women in Iran and Afghanistan dressed like Westerners. Then the Islamic Revolution came and time turned backward. Sharia became the law, far harsher than a rude stare or an unkind remark.
Perhaps liberty-friendly Muslimas should consider that, given the context of our times and the actions of the liberty-hating members of their religion, they should leave the symbolic headgear to the 7th-century-lovers, and kindly ease the fears of the nervous kafirs in their midst?

Firstly, this was a student run project so no “church and state” violations exist. Second, no one is being forced to wear a hijab. It is all up to each individual. Third, if any students would suggest a “priest collar day” or “Kippah day” it would be allowed. Finally the student, while being Muslim, is not trying to convert or “Islamify” anyone. The point of the hijab is modesty. So that people get to know you for you, rather than judge you based on looks. If that isn’t a good message then i am not sure what is.
Having attended this high school, and participating in Hijab day, while also being a more conservative minded, upper middle class white suburban male (yes I felt the need to include that, as most will write off what I say if I’m not white), I see nothing wrong with what is happening. I do not understand people that make your type of comments like “make you afraid of something you have no knowledge of ” when to make it, you yourself, obviously have no skerrick of understanding of the danger or hatred towards all things non-muslim that islam represents. I would suggest you try reading the koran, the hadith, the sunnah and you will no longer suffer such delusions.
I have spent many, many hours educating myself on islam and it presents, from their own documents, as little more than a blueprint to control and manipulate all its followers while exhorting the death or subjugation all all who aren’t. The hadiths, strangely enough, show quite openly what a murderous, lowly, lying, hypocritical, raping, plundering tyrant Muhammad was, and yet muslims somehow equate him to being the perfect man whose example should be followed in all things. Extraordinary!
Every war ravaged country, is ravaged by muslims; every country that has offered muslims sanctuary, has problems from their incessant demands for change to cater for their beliefs; continual whining of victimhood and refusal to integrate with their hosts. Islam is totally incompatable with western beliefs.
From one end of the world to the other there is death, war, destruction, refugees and the murder and cleansing of Christians and there is only one cult who is the cause of it. Where does this continual mantra that “islam is a religion of peace” that our dhimmi leaders keep espousing come from?

>Firstly, this was a student run project so no “church and state” violations exist.
Ignoring that fact that you had non-students as part of this… that argument didn’t fly with school prayers either. Students are not permitted to engage in religious organized activities in schools either. Students wouldn’t need to leave school in order to avoid having to other religions being exposed.
>Second, no one is being forced to wear a hijab. It is all up to each individual.
That didn’t fly with school prayers either. The fact that students can opt out of religious activities do not suddenly make it constitutional. Lemon v. Kurtzman made that clear.
>Third, if any students would suggest a “priest collar day” or “Kippah day” it would be allowed.
They why haven’t Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Sheiks, Atheists, etc. tried this? Oh… they did and it got tossed in court. Any of these would be equally unconstitutional. Not to mention students would be bombarded with hundreds of religions.
>Finally the student, while being Muslim, is not trying to convert or “Islamify” anyone.
That didn’t fly with school prayers either. Christian groups claims that same nonsense. It wasn’t to convert anyone. It doesn’t matter… your intent doesn’t make an unconstitutional act, constitutional.
>The point of the hijab is …
Don’t care. It is still religious in nature. They tried that with school prayers… it fosters community, it helps a sense of belonging, it makes you humble, etc. There is no secular purpose in schools promoting women to be modest — let alone using hijabs to do so. The secular purpose of schools is to teach children basic information — not to make students humble, foster a sense of belonging, or promote modesty in girls. Even if there was a constitutional secular purpose in getting girls to dress modestly… there are secular means of doing this.
>If that isn’t a good message then i am not sure what is.
I don’t think it is a good message that women have to dress modestly… but that doesn’t matter. The establishment clause doesn’t care whether you or I think something is a good message or not. If it is religiously based, it isn’t allowed in schools.
>Again I reiterate that this is NOT a way to “Islamify” you or your children.
Not that I believe you… but the establishment clause, Lemon v. Kurtzman, and the Lemon test does not grant exceptions based on why you say this. Again, school prayer arses tried that and they got sent packing also.
>You may call Mr. Rutten and express your concern but it will actually change nothing, as it is a student
>run event. Please be civil, and try not to use racism or any intolerance in your arguments as that will

Rather than a hijab day… maybe students should have an establishment clause day. The school is likely to be sued. School prayer groups tried the same things nearly thirty years ago “It is organized by students”, “Students can opt out”, “It has a secular purpose.”, etc. Lemon v. Kurtzman blew that one out of the water.

Parker, one of my concerns about “Hijab Day” is that the female students are, in effect, forced to declare themselves on a complicated issue about which many of them are ill-informed. Those students who choose to *not* wear hijab are likely to be viewed as “islamophobes” – as bigots. It’s one thing for a Muslim girl to give a talk about the reason Muslim women wear hijab and quite another to put students into a position where they have to reveal their own feelings and views on that article of clothing and its meaning.
The reasons for choosing not to wear Islamic dress on hijab day may range from uncertainty about what to believe, to a conviction that joining in would be a betrayal of all those women and girls in the world who have not been given a choice whether to wear it or not, in places like Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and everywhere that the Islamic State invades. I hope that those girls who chose not to wear hijab were not treated as bigots, were not pressured to explain themselves, were not made to feel that they should be ashamed of themselves.
I have been reading Islamic texts and history and many books on the topic since before 9/11 – since the time of the Iranian Revolution, when the Ayatollah Khomeini said that he was going to spread his version of Islam throughout the Middle East and then to “The Little Satan” (Israel) and “The Great Satan” (the USA). Women were forced to wear the hijab and were arrested and beaten by the morality police if even a bit of hair was peeping from underneath. People weren’t allowed to listen to music. Etc. They had to submit to the religious dictates of the Islamic government. So I wanted to find out about this religion that was setting up a theocratic state in Iran.
Now there are other brands of Islam striving to impose their religion on the world through extreme violence and with total intolerance. What we need today is not a bunch of high school girls playing “dress-up” – I don’t see what meaningful lesson is to be learned from that, or from kids all wearing kippahs or Amish dresses and caps or shaving their heads and wearing Buddhist robes – that’s just the outerwear and doesn’t tell you about the religion or answer the questions that thoughtful people want to understand.
What would be a more meaningful project would be for the Muslim student to take the most shocking, intolerant verses of the Koran and the Hadith (the words and deeds of Mohammad) and explain to those of use who have read the Koran and Hadith how a freedom-loving, anti-jihad, anti-shariah Muslim interprets the instances when Mohammad approved of the murders of poets and critics who had mocked him? And why Mohammad’s example should no longer be followed today? Or why the Islamic law that says that whoever changes his religion from Islam to some other should be killed can now be ignored? And there are many other scary aspects of the sacred works of Islam that would not worry anyone were it not for certain Islamic governments and terror groups following this very example today.
Explaining how harmless Muslims, truly peaceful Muslims with honestly peaceful, live-and-let-live intent, rationalize or interpret these parts of their sacred texts – giving the theological basis of a non-threatening, tolerant Islam, if there is one – would go a long way to building understanding between that decent portion of the Umma, and the non-Muslim world. But so far, in all these years, I have yet to hear a moderate Muslim address these topics in a convincing way. When I’ve brought the topic up with Muslim acquaintances I either get a shoulder shrug or a very lame, and not theological at all, excuse. Or obvious dodges and subject-changing. So that’s the area you really need to address, if you can.
In light of that, asking all the girls in school to wear a hijab for a day is completely empty. It addresses no fears, explains nothing. But it does put dissenting girls on the spot, in public, among their schoolmates.
And that’s not cool.
SK says
Students who chose not to participate on Hijab day were definitely not viewed as “islamophobes” or “bigots”. There were no more than 30-40 girls participating. It’s best to not make assumptions.
ThyeBuffster says
SK, I’m glad to know that.
As to making assumptions, that’s the normal way the human mind functions. We all make assumptions, based on our context of knowledge and experience, on trends that we see occurring around us. I’ve seen a number of the students who’ve responded to this article assume that the people here think that *all* Muslims are terrorists or support violence, for example, which isn’t true. A few here might think that the wearing of the hijab shows a more orthodox dedication to the whole Koran and the example of Mohammad. But from my experience here, I’d say most people who comment regularly on this website know that Muslims, being human beings, vary on how much of the Koran and Hadith they accept, and that you can’t read a person’s mind through her head scarf.
My concerns about political correctness at schools and mistreatment of dissenters stems from my own experiences, the experiences of people I know, and what I’ve read about in books and documentaries on the subject regarding the closing of debate at many schools at all levels. It’s quite common, as I understand it. But note that this is a *concern* of mine, and my sense of probability that this would be occurring at the school at issue here is what worried me about the project.
The great thing about open discussion is that assumptions can be challenged, whereas if there is not place to air ones assumptions, they don’t get challenged and are less likely to change.
I make a constant effort to challenge my own assumptions. But it’s good to throw my views into the ring and see what answers I get.

The purpose of the hijab is to protect women from men’s lust which in the case of Muslim males are
apparently uncontrolled as the women have to be covered up all their lives, in the case of the burka completely. How do western men control their lust as they are confronted with scantily clad women everywhere. Because they, for the most part, have been brought up to control themselves and to respect
women’s right to wear what they please. Yes they sometimes go too far but that is their choice
In Islam there is no choice, not event the choice to leave Islam!
The hijag whatever you apologists say is a symbol of the warped relationship between men and women in Islam, Go and see what it is like where sharia is the law and women are beaten by religious ‘police’ for showing even a bit of hair and forced to remove make up even.
Mohammad said that the largest proportion of people in hell are women. Muslims still hold to the idea of women being the tempters of men which is why the victims of rape have enormous difficulty getting justice

Will these same students be celebrating America? (and all that she stands for)
Will these same students [especially the Muslim students] be joining in on Christianity day, or Jewish faith day, or Hindu or Sikh day…. Of course, the Muslim students wont have to, as its going to be offensive to them in the first place……. which will lead to yet another ‘apologist lefty liberal’ teacher bending over backwards to have it all banned (except for of course, Hijab day)
Parker says
Actually, yes, we do celebrate America. There are literally multiple accounts of me, and other students being as American as possible. On culture day last year I painted my face red white and blue, wore American flag ribbon from hear to toe, and carried not one, but TWO American flags with me all day.
All culture is accepted at np3. You guys should try it

and apparently in no muslim country is such ‘diversity’ celebrated. In fact it is usually the reason for attacking others churches, for disallowing the exposure of other ‘faiths’ for being an insult to Islam and bringing out the howling banchis screeching ‘allah is greater’ and the hamr and frequently death, to ‘all others’. Tyranny is what this is. Islamic tyranny, under the cover that any cirticism of Islam is ‘Islamophobic’.
In all areas where muslims wall themselves off, there is little to no allowance for such ‘diversity’ and in muslim ruled nations that is law. Of course, none of this is too be mentioned because it’s claimed to be ‘Islamophobic’, insensitive, unfair et al.
Tell me…. can you name any religion, any at all- that was so utterly unfair to all others as Islam was and is, and by fiat thru the teachings of Mohammed? There isn’t any, and as such, that should and must be discussed.

Most muslim women won’t / can’t refuse that hijab. Kids at this school can wear it for one day and get a warm fuzzy without knowing the full picture.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m guessing that you’re either very young, or you are very niave. If you disagree, dress like an orthodox Jew and go to a muslim festival in Dearborn, MI or any of the 751 no-go zones in France. Be sure and report back on your experience!

I don’t need to understand what the hijab is to better acquaint myself with the so-called “diversity” within islam, because I read the quran and I understand PLENTY about what islam has to offer, and I want nothing to do with islam–no thank you! The quran is a manual-4-murder and muhammad (perdition be upon him) was probably the vilest criminal known to man; and islam is inherently evil from beginning to end. Any questions?

Would these students be getting some credits for their comments?
If the teachers are grading them for their comments then it does be-hove them to reply back with much more understanding about diversity, multicultural and how it all fits in with the facts from the koran hadiths and sira, and what Mohammad, acclaimed the most “perfect man” to be followed by ALL muslims, appreciated in his life of well clothed girls and woman and how some of these females were affected by him..
Many still are seriously “troubled” often in life and death situations around the world. In the USA some muslimas also are as badly effected wearing hijabs and so seriously risk becoming victims, unless they can teach every one how to understand what it is like to be a muslim with these hijab problems. Just not telling people about.all the truth about Mohammad’s recorded word in the koran and his life per the hadiths and sira,
From their own placards and sayings:- ” judge them by what is in their head” as not much value has come from those student comments. The students seem to be concerned that “it is the illiterate mind” ” “that oppresses woman” but from observation they have not practiced much literacy and read many books, and newspapers. I do wonder if the school administration may be hindering them by keeping them busy with their curriculum, or is it facebook twitter etc, so not allowing enough time to read more widely to appreciate why thousands of girls in England of their age were badly effected by stopping islamphobia, as social services and police would not actl;- as after all islamphobia was stopped ! ! ! and so it was a bit of diversity practiced by muslims showing their culture.
I hate being hard on these girls but for other girls it has been a very hard world where muslims are involved,, once there are a higher %r of them, so I feel it has to be said..

Many of the “student commenters” are very similar creating straw man, and making many shallow claims that do not relate and or explain what they have learnt, or are their lessons really so shallow?
Do you think this is how and what they are being taught? It comes across as being very shallow.
It did make me wonder as the way they express themselves seems to be, with no thought, little reading of the articles and what others have said and very little comprehension of what was written here. Very sad,
It appears like “I must say something”. or a “knee-jerk reaction”
That is why I wondered if they were looking for a credit, and so I wondered how their teachers were grading their efforts.
c) teenagers excel at social media and the internetz I see may seem great and influence people of similar shallow thought processes, though personally I would have more respect for people who think, and reason much more and develop much deeper knowledge.
At this stage I do think it is great for the media attention, as perhaps just a few of the students, if they can see past the media hype, might feel some genuine curiosity of what hijabs are really about and the involvement of islam, and so investigate at a deeper level.
Even just coming to this site is a starter for some, as perhaps at another stage of their lives, in seeking more knowledge, they may come back to reflect or confirm other things.
However it is usually the media that make a lot of hype and gloss and if any truth is raised, then blurred with attitude of “move on” and so by next week it is back to another shallow issue.
It is good there is discussion and I welcome the student’s input, and except for very few rash comments/replies it has been very civil and many interesting points have been raised, for the edification of us all.

Easy, since Saudi funded Salafist Orthodoxy of intolerance and strict Sharia became the dominant force in global Islam in the 1970s.
Who funds organisations like CAIR? Have you asked your teacher?
The ignorance around the difference of the sects within Islam by the people in the West is shocking.
Salafist and Wahhabi doctrine have NOTHING to offer women or not Muslims and offer death to apostates (look it up) and male Homosexuals.
I find it extraordinary that here, in 2014, in the Enlightenment of the West we are subject to a sect of Islam that demands suppression if freedoms that women in particular have fought for for generations.
If you are a woman who thinks that the hijab is merely an article of modesty you are a fool and part of the problem.

Why do you think people are upset with Islam? It is not for modest living and principles.
Do you want to know why? Here’s one reason. There are so many Muslims who have this idea that Islam is the ONLY religion. Now where did they get that idea? From your holy books and your leaders. From Mohammed himself. I’ve read your books and commentaries and I know that is what they say.
This brings to mind other ideologies with similar domination fantasies that they were willing to try and carry out. In recent history. In living memory of many alive today.
Many of the doctrines of Islam are hideous in their treatment of women for example. I know it’s going to fall on deaf ears to you. The mutilation of women through female “circumcision” is just one case in point. Recommended in the Qu’ran by the way.
The wearing of the hijab is in part a matter of male “ownership” of females. Keeping them from the eyes of other men to ensure his property is truly his. It is a way of controlling women and keeping them in place. In other words under the control of men–who can then do what they want with them. Divorce them on a whim, marry them when they are children, beat them–the list goes on.

Freedom. People are free to get the new iPhone, or to criticize whoever they see fit to criticize. It’s a shame that you have a problem with freedom, in which case a repressive ideology like islam is more up your alley.
“I teach history at a secondary school and we just finished the crusades. You know, where the good Christians murdered anyone who wasn’t Christian, men, women, and children.”
Then you’re an incompetent teacher. The crusades were a delayed, localized response to centuries of islamic aggression. BTW, did you go through the islamic conquest of the lands the Crusaders went to free? Do you want me to school you on the reports of atrocities committed by muslims against civilians who foolishly thought that if they offered no resistance they’d be spared?
“Today we drop bombs and drones on homes where families live, children sleep, and nobody seems to care.”
And, of course, you offer no evidence to back this assertion. And why should you? This is the official narrative of the leftist propaganda – no evidence necessary. Here’s how things usually go: you bomb a terrorist camp and the next day the terrorists call in a TV station and show “evidence” that it was an innocent civilian family house. “Evidence” that miraculously show no sign of having been bombed – no scorch marks, no dirt in it, nothing. There’s a name for that – propaganda.
“Reading your website reminds me why I stay away from such ignorance, where CAIR is pronounced as an organization worse than the NSA or CIA.”
The links between CAIR and terrorist organizations are very well documented. Feel free to stick your head in the sand, that won’t change anything.
“People defend thei homes in Palestine with rocks while bombs are dropped on them.”
Do they defend their homes in “palestine” by going into Israel and killing civilians?
“We’ve been at war for 1 years fighting threat that was made by us.”
Once again, the idea that the “threat was made by us” is part of the official leftist propaganda – no evidence necessary because “it is known”.
“Before this when I was growing up Russians were the enemy, communists, Vietnamese, Japanese, and now they are not even thought about.”
It might have anything to do with changes in the communist regimes. Islam, on the other hand, hasn’t changed since its invention, and that’s something muslims are proud of. The ideology of islam remains the same ideology that murdered hundreds of millions since it first came up. You claim to teach history? Then look up the “Barbary Wars”, and tell us if the US caused that threat.
“Yet, and one time the hatred you have for Islam, Americans had for them.”
Hatred? You make it seem like not liking an ideology that would have us converted, subjugated to third class-semi slaves living in a state of constant humiliation or dead is a bad thing.
“Pope Urban II wanted to gain Jerusalem, starting a war against the infidels/heretics/non-Christians was just a way for him to get what he wanted. He said things that were not true to rally people to fight for his cause.”
Once again, if you’re really a history teacher then you’re very incompetent, and you’re doing your students a disfavor.
“Do you see any resemblance to what is happening now? If people invaded America and killed your family what would you do?”
You mean, like the islamic state threatens to do? Or Iran?
“But you’re so lost in your hate and ignorance even the truth cannot be seen by you.”
What truth is that? You’ve already shown to be incompetent when it comes to written history. Why should we trust you to show us the “truth”?
“As an American and a Muslim I pity you. I at one time was also ignorant, and then sought for the truth and found it. May you also one day see it for yourself.”
American and muslim, eh? You’re doubly biased then. Most Americans don’t know much about European history. They don’t know that what is now the so-called “islamic world” (from the middle east to north africa) was, at a time, christian land, and very advanced for the time. Then barbarian muslims invaded those lands, destroyed them and caused what today we call “the dark ages”. Then they moved into Europe, and it took centuries to get them out. Centuries of fight against a totalitarian ideology that kept attacking European nations over and over until the 18th century. And muslims always shirk (see what I did there?) responsibility for any act of islamic aggression.
So tell us, “Dennis”: how much does CAIR pay? Are you payed by the word?

I better leave it as I am sure the school administration must know how unwise that is, despite teaching all this great diversity and multi culture and tolerance, when one side may appear tolerant when weak, but absolutely intolerant when they gain enough power and then inveigle laws to be more suited to them, or simply ignore the law.

Really i’m uneducated God you cunts are retarded islam means to submit Islam is derived from the Arabic root “Salema”: peace, purity, submission and obedience. In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law.
Everything and every phenomenon in the world other than man is administered totally by God-made laws, ie. they are obedient to God and submissive to his laws, they are in the State of Islam. Man possesses the qualities of intelligence and choice, thus he is invited to submit to the good will of God and obey His law, ie, become a Muslim.
Submission to the good will of God, together with obedience to His beneficial Law, ie, becoming a Muslim, is the best safeguard for man’s peace and harmony.
Islam dates back to the age of Adam and its message has been conveyed to man by God’s prophets and messengers, including Abrahim, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.
Islam’s message has been restored and enforced in the last stage of the religious evolution by God’s last prophet and messenger, Muhammad.
The word Allah in the Arabic language means God, or more accurately, The One and Only Eternal God, Creator of the Universe, Lord of all lords, King of all kings, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. The word Allah to mean God is also used by Arabic speaking Jews and Christians. So I’m not the one who is uneducated ARMY ACKNOWLEDGES PEDOPHILIA PART OF ISLAM
A new Army manual that warns American soldiers in Afghanistan to avoid talking about certain topics has unwittingly acknowledged that Western taboos such as pedophilia are an inherent part of Islamic culture.
“By mentioning that pedophilia and women’s rights and saying that soldiers should not mention such things they are tacitly admitting that those things are indeed part of Islam,” said Robert Spencer, founder of Jihad Watch.
According to the Wall Street Journal, a new 75-page Army manual suggests U.S. soldiers are to blame for the large number of deadly attacks on them by Afghan security forces. The manual reportedly says the soldiers may have brought the attacks on themselves because of insensitivity towards Islamic culture.
“Many of the confrontations occur because of [coalition] ignorance of, or lack of empathy for, Muslim and/or Afghan cultural norms, resulting in a violent reaction from the [Afghan security force] member,” the draft report prepared by Army researchers and obtained by the Journal said.
Clare Lopez, a senior fellow with the Center for Security Policy, said the suggestion that U.S. soldiers are to blame for the attacks on them by Afghan security forces is outrageous.
“To suggest that our troops are somehow being murdered because of our insensitivity to their culture is essentially saying it’s our own fault that the troops are being killed because we weren’t nice enough to them,” Lopez said. “The fundamental refusal to acknowledge that the enemy fights because of what he says he fight for, which is Islam, is a failure by our professional leadership from Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta on down. Because of this, we have no strategy.”
This year alone, more than three dozen attacks have killed 63 coalition forces. In an attempt to quell the attacks the Army report has issued a list of “taboo conversational topics.”
The topics include “making derogatory comments about the Taliban,” “advocating women’s rights” and “directing any criticism towards Afghans” or “anything related to Islam.”
WND contacted the Army to request a copy of the manual. Army spokesman Ray Harp responded by saying it would not release a copy, for security reasons. He explained the Army wished to avoid detailing specific tactics, techniques and procedures outlined in the handbook.
Regarding the WSJ copy, Harp said whoever released it was not authorized to do so.
“While the handbook does contain information we do not want freely distributed into the hands of our enemies, it is labeled with the ‘For Official Use Only’ restriction,” Harp said. “While still officially unclassified, we require the information to be protected from an open distribution and it should not have been released to anyone outside of those who needed access to it for official purposes.”
Elaine Donnelly, director of the Center for Military Readiness, says while she has not seen the draft copy, she can understand how it is beneficial for the Army to help teach soldiers about cultural differences. Unfortunately, she said, Congress and military leaders often go too far.
“There is a cultural problem that the military needs to confront, but I’m not sure this manual is the best way to go about it,” Donnelly said. “If the information in it is for our soldier’s protection so as to prevent something from being provocative, it might save a life, but if as the article suggests it is calling for soldiers to be overly deferential, that’s not called for.”
Donnelly noted the example of Navy Lt. Florence Choe, who was shot by an Afghan guard in 2009 for wearing shorts while jogging along the perimeter of the base.
“I’m not saying this was her fault, but if her commanders had taken the time to acknowledge that individuals in that part of the world have a different attitude in regards to women in shorts, it might have saved her life,” she said.
However, Donnelly says there are other taboos supposedly in the report that appear to have gone too far.
The Army manual also advises soldiers to avoid “any criticism of pedophilia” or “mentioning homosexuality and homosexual conduct.”
“In that part of the world homosexuality is condemned, and pedophilia is accepted. It’s not like our culture at all and that needs to be acknowledged. We don’t have to be subservient to be cautious,” she continued. “Unfortunately, often times our leaders want to go overboard, believing it will help our relationships with these countries, but the truth is it doesn’t.”
The Army manual has drawn sharp criticism from Marine Gen. John Allen, the top military commander in Afghanistan. Allen reportedly has rejected a proposed foreword written by the Army using his name.
“Gen. Allen did not author, nor does he intend to provide, a foreword,” Col. Tom Collins, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan said. “He does not approve of its contents.”
Spencer says the ban on criticizing pedophilia has put the military in a difficult position. By attempting to show cultural sensitivity, it is forced to acknowledge that pedophilia is an inherent part of Islamic teaching.
“This draws attention to the fact that despite denials by the U.S. government and groups like CAIR, these things are a part of official Islam,” Spencer said. “However, I don’t expect them to have the honesty to acknowledge the inconsistency.”
He said that by telling soldiers not to speak against pedophilia, the military and the U.S. government is essentially endorsing the behavior.
“We are essentially sending the message that the United States endorses pedophilia by refusing to speak out against it. I don’t see any way around this.”
Clare Lopez, also a senior fellow with the Clarion Fund, said the new manual is another example of how the military is sending the message that Western culture and values are subservient to Islam.
“It’s another step in a process of submission to the appeasement of Islam that the United States leadership including military leadership has been pursuing for quite a while,” she said. “The entire program seems to be geared to appeasing the Taliban and jihadists by giving in to their world view which says Islam should not be offended and letting them decide what is offensive.”
She said the problem is not limited to the Obama administration but began in Afghanistan under President George W. Bush.
“This actually began in 2004 when we helped Afghanistan enshrine Islamic Shariah law in the constitution. Once we did that, we no longer had any purpose being in the country because we gave the enemy everything they asked for,” she noted. “That’s what they fight for, the imposition of Shariah. All of these other measures that followed from that point on have been a further attempt to win their hearts and minds. It hasn’t worked as is evident by the fact they are still killing our soldiers.”
The Army manual is in keeping with policies by the Obama administration to deliberately scrub all training materials that criticize Islam. Earlier this year, the FBI destroyed all of its materials that taught there was an Islamic connection to terrorism.
WND previously reported the Pentagon refused to give assurances that soldiers who burned the Quran would not be turned over to Afghan authorities to face trial.
Cmdr. William Speakes, a spokesman for the Pentagon, said: “It would be premature to speculate at any potential outcomes. Any disciplinary action if deemed warranted will be taken by U.S. authorities after a thorough review of the facts pursuant to all U.S. military law and regulations and in accordance with due process. We have made no commitments beyond that.”
When asked if that meant the only commitment officials were willing to make was that the soldiers would not be tried in an Afghan court, Speakes said: “No. The only commitment we have made is that we will take any appropriate disciplinary action deemed necessary by the investigation. Any suggestions that we have made more detailed commitments beyond what I just told you is inaccurate.”
Spencer said the Army manual sends the message to Middle Easterners that despite statements by our government, they cannot expect any help from America when it comes to fighting for basic human rights.
“Anybody in these Muslim countries that wanted to see freedom of speech, a crackdown on pedophilia, or rights for women were disappointed at the time that we endorsed the Afghan constitution which enshrined these principles in Islamic law,” Spencer said. “It sends the message to advocates of human rights and freedom that the United States is not going to help them and they are on their own.”

Tyler says
I do not see the problem with a student wanting to create awareness about their religion amongst their peers. America was built on the foundation that no matter religion nor creed, everyone would be treated with the same rights. No teachers were involved in the planning or execution of the event, so why would there be any church and state issues? And for those who bring up “why aren’t there any Jewish yamaka day? Or burka days? Etc.” The only reason there isn’t, is because no student stepped up to organize it. This isn’t the school’s fault, its a lack of motivation by students. The fact of the matter is that a girl was proud of her religion and wanted to share her beliefs in a calm and voluntary fashion. This shouldn’t even be a discussion, its pretty simple.
somehistory says
“This shouldn’t even be a discussion, ”
Oh, but the student who was *doing a project* said that she wanted others to understand the *challenges* she faces because she wears a hijab. She just wanted to wear it and have all the other females wear it, but there was to be no discussion?
Many women have voluntarily worn scarves to keep their hair neat, to protect from rain, to protect from wind, and to cover their curlers, but wearing a hijab is a symbol of the subjugation of a woman to islam’s mysogyny and as such, those who don’t wish to be subject or those not being forced to be subject, shouldn’t wear them to *understand the challenges* as it is a defeat of the whole idea of understanding of what islam is.
Religion is a choice…at least for Christians…muslims evidently don’t get one in many countries…it’s islam or else…an offer not to be refused. Why should this thuggery be honored by students and teachers who are not subject to it? Religion or not to have one should be a personal choice made freely. No one wants to be forced to worship a god in whom they do not believe and whose *commands* are gruesome.
If a student *stepped up to organize…’ wear a cross day or read a Bible verse day or carry a small flag with the Star of David day…would your school *encourage* all of the students of the same gender to do the same? Be honest now. At least to yourself.
Tyler says
I have no doubt that np3 would accept a star of David day or something along those lines. In fact every Wednesday morning, Christian students meet on school grounds and pray. Its a diverse school with no real dominant race or religion among the student body. I understand that in many countries being Muslim is not optional, but that’s what is great about America. They can be Muslim, and you can not be Muslim, and no one can force you otherwise. no one was forced to wear the hijab. It was totally voluntary. There was no “thuggery” involved whatsoever. It was requested, and multiple times it was stated that it is okay not to wear a hijab on that day. Answer me this: what goes through your mind when you see a woman in a hijab?
somehistory says
What goes through my mind? That the woman is subjected to inhumanity from all men who see her as *dressed properly* and that see her, not as a human person with feelings to be respected, but as less than their farm animals.
I see a person who, if she likes the feeling that comes of thinking she is superior to other women who don’t wear it, and to men who think she is under subjugation to an ideology,as deluded. If she thinks she is superior, then I see her as wishing all women to be enslaved and to me, that is thuggery.
There is no superiorty in islam, although all who accept it as true worship, the only true worship, believe they are superior to all other people and that anyone who doesn’t accept it should not be allowed to continue.living freely.
I have had dealings with muslims, both men and women. I have seen the men and little boys as young as three years old abuse the women, mothers and wives in the family.
The hijab is a sign to me of this oppression. It doesn’t get any respect from me. The women who put a high value on the wearing of it, have not earned any respect. The ones who would like to set it aside and be free as the True God intended them to be, but are afraid of being murdered by a muslim male, have my pity and hope they can find a way to escape.
TheBuffster says
Hi, Tyler. Even though you weren’t addressing the question to me, I’d like to answer this: “What goes through your mind when you see a woman in a hijab?”
When I see a woman in hijab, I always wonder. Questions run through my mind.
What kind of a Muslim is she? Does she follow Islam in a way that’s compatible with the principles of individual rights for all? Does she believe in full and equal freedom of religion/conscience, freedom of expression, and all the other rights recognized in the American Constitution, and does she ignore and explain away the many examples of Mohammad grossly violating those rights and admonishing his followers to do the same. especially against unsubmissive unbelievers? Does she want the US to maintain its Constitutional guarantees of rights as they are, or does she want to curb all criticism of Islam as “hate speech” and have people like Robert Spencer and Mark Steyn brought before tribunals, forced to spend thousands of dollars to defend themselves for stating their negative views about her religion? Is she appalled at what the supremacist Muslims are up to around the world – not just the terrorism, but in attempts to bring Sharia into Western law by non-violent means?
And I wonder if she’s wearing that hijab because she wants to, or because her family would punish her if she didn’t. I wonder whether she’s part of a nice Muslim family that blends a respect for individual rights with only the best parts of the doctrine in the Koran and Mohammad’s example, or if she has to endure such strictness that she’s afraid to do anything but what her husband or father allows. (If she’s out by herself, I take that as a good sign.) I even wonder whether she’s truly a Muslim but is afraid to admit to anyone that she’s left the faith intellectually and spiritually, because her family would beat her up or kill her if she admitted the truth and took off the scarf.
I wonder all these things because I know that there is a variety of alternative possibilities. And when I have an interaction with a woman in hijab, like the girl at the checkout counter at the grocery, I’m always friendly and she’s friendly, and I still wonder because friendliness doesn’t tell me anything about what’s behind the smile. I know that I can’t read minds and that I don’t know the stories of the strangers I meet.
Normally that’s not a concern, because if the stranger is wearing a kippah or a cross or any other religious symbol, it’s not associated with a religion whose will to force itself on the rest of humanity has not been buried beneath the weight of constitutional protections and outshone by the light of reason. It’s most fundamentalist practitioners still, today, aim to bring humanity under the rule of Islam or die trying, and they’ve caused a lot of mayhem and misery not just through the religion’s history, but right up to this very moment.
So when I see a woman in hijab, I wonder about her. And I feel a bit uncomfortable.
sherrylynn says
I just talked to the prinicipal’s office, and she said that no one was required to wear a hijab. It was just a demonstration by a Muslim student who explained the hijab as her class project. She said if a Jewish student wants to do a project explaining the yarmulke, it would be similiarly demonstrated. If you can find out that this isn’t true, please do. I’m just reporting what she told me.
Mahu says
My daughter is a student at np3. No one was forced to wear a hijab. ( my daughter did not) and a Christian club does meet and pray around the flagpole once a week. It is a very diverse school. It’s also very small. Only about 300 or so students. We are very happy there.

This is disturbing the level of brain washing going on at this local Sacramento High School
I called and got a woman who was extremely nice (to the point of obvious sarcasm) trying to try and make me the evil hater
Assuring me they have “great kids” etc etc
But when asked about if they were taught the whole story with the violence in the world going on she side stepped it
Tried to goad me into saying I was threatening her when I refused a invitation to come visit stating I do not see how that conversation would be any different and would take my own steps (meaning social media, emails etc) nut she jumped to conclusion it was a threat, really???
She kept pushing for my name and phone # for her “list” which I refused (I dialed *67 first which hides your number on caller ID) and when asked what would be done with list she stammered and didn’t give an answer
This is obviously a way left liberal ran school with an agenda and they arrogantly are proud of what they are doing
After telling me about going on “the list”, tried to tell me I was the “only call” she had received opposing it. LOL
Hide your number, and state your from “Natomas area” (their area), she isn’t interested in anyone outside their areas opinions
Please call and forward to others to call and share our opinions opposing this brainwashing of our youth
This is what we are fighting people

Robert Spencer, you say that the hijab is a sign of oppression and yet, you are a Catholic. Almost every picture of Mary portrays her wearing a veil, and it wasnt long ago that many women wore veils to church. They continue to do so today and I doubt it is a sign of oppression. By disrespecting the rights of women around the world to wear hijabs, you are in turn disrespecting many Catholic women as well.
somehistory says
Ahh, but Mr. Spencer isn’t *disrespecting* anyone…and he hasn’t said a woman doesn’t have the *right* of women to wear hijabs.
Try reading the articles written by Mr. Spencer, listening to his talks and reading his books and you’ll get a clue as to what Mr. Spencer’s points are about women and the hijab.
BTW….there are no *pictures of Mary* as cameras had not been invented at the time she lived. Artists represent her only in works of art and religious works. Mary was a Jewish woman. What do you know of Jewish dress of that century? And what of it was entirely voluntary?
MD says
somehistory:
I’m sorry if you couldn’t make the logical connection that when I referred to ‘picture’ i obviously meant religious works of art. For 1) to be quite frank I don’t think you have a right to say who is and isn’t being disrespected in this situation. When you insult someone on their efforts to create awareness about women who wear hijabs by saying that what they choose to wear is oppressive, you are disrespecting their choice to wear one and making a judgement on something you have no experience with. and 2) with all due respect, if you would actually try reading what i said, i never said that Mr. Spencer denies womens rights to wear hijab, i simply said he is disrespecting those rights.
And while the jewish dress of a previous century may be relevant, I should point you to modern day where women from other religions such as Catholicism choose to cover their heads when they go to church. To this day nuns do the same.
Furthermore, although the lines are constantly blurred, there is a difference between culture and religion, maybe you should look into that.
somehistory says
Md, Of course, if you live in the real world, you know they didn’t have *pictures* as by a camera….my point…which evidently you couldn’t understand the logic therein…is that you don’t know what Mary actually wore on her head, so to use her as a *reason* for women today, spec Catholic women, to wear a veil or scarf….and by that….going on to use that as a *reason* hijabs are something women should wear…is just foolish. muslim women do not wear scarves because other women wear scarves, nor because artists paint them on their depictions of a Jewish woman whose Son taught us to be Christians.
Women wear scarves for various reasons. Have you studied Catholicism so that you know the whys and wherefores of their reasons?
And you wrote that I said quote:”: saying that what they choose to wear is oppressive, ”
I never wrote that in my comment to you
When it comes to re-reading, you should take your own advice. It is amazing that one such as you can make judgments as to a person’s knowledge or lack thereof by a short comment by someone you have never met, much less, spoken to at any length.
Catholic women, and I know a few, former and present Catholics, are not under any obligation to put anything on their heads when going to and from church, nor to the grocery store, to work, to a party, to the beach, to any place they may wish or need to go. The wearing of a scarf or hat or veil is left up to the individual woman as to whether or not and where she may choose to wear one. If they choose not to wear anything on their heads, they will not be beaten to death by their Catholic husbands.
I have worked with muslim women who wore a scarf to work….would you, yourself, claim that Catholics and other religious women would also do that? To an office, keeping it on their head throughout the day?
You must make the argument equivalent, or leave out other groups. If the Catholic women do not, then it is not an equivalent argument.
Besides the fact, women have long worn scarves for various reasons, many having nothing to do with *culture* or *religion.* Women have worn scarves to clean their houses and work in the fields or gardens. Neither is a cultural or religious thing, but a matter of keeping the hair clean and/or out of the face and the way of their work.
Mr. Spencer has not *dis-respected* anyone’s *right* to wear whatever they may choose to wear. And neither did I insult or *disrespect* anyone’s *right* to wear something on their head as a religious choice. The big issue is this: choice…making the personal decision to wear something on the head in observance of a religious feeling or faith. If it isn’t a *Choice* for the woman, if someone else decides for her that she must wear one on pain of death…by being beaten or strangled or whatever manner the husband, father, brother, uncle or muslim man on the street may choose…then this is not something to be respected.
And to bring this religious practice into a school for the very purpose of making it acceptable to all the other females, as though it is something to *treasure* is just plain wrong. If the student who is muslim wishes to wear it, and there is no health reason, or other legal issue involved, then I couldn’t care less if she wears one. But to bring the rest of anyone female into the practice so they can experience her *challenges* is wrong. If she doesn’t wish to wear one, and no one is making her wear it, why is there a *challenge*? Just don’t wear it. If she wishes to wear it of her own free will, then that is her choice, she can do so, but the other girls shouldn’t be made to feel as though they must wear one too.
Maybe you should look into Mr. Spencer’s writings. You might gain some insight.
As for me knowing the difference between culture and religion….there is no real reason to go into depth of my knowledge of that, but muslims are the ones who *blur* the lines between the two. Some claim *culture* as a *reason* to wear the hijab; others say it is their *religious requirement* and they must wear it.
If it is culture;;;;they can leave it behind as many others leave their homelands and meld into the culture of another country. If they wish to keep their culture, they shouldn’t expect those of a different culture to adopt theirs.
If it is religion, they should ask themselves if they are *free to choose* their religious practice. And they should not try to impose their religion on others.
MD says
somehistory:
1) I never said that women only wear headscarves because of other women.
2) YOU originally said the Mr. Spencer isn’t disrespecting anyone, explaining the reference to “oppressed” from the original article
3) You should take your own advice on not making judgments about people and their knowledge. The hypocrisy in your words is ridiculous.
4) You are blowing the Catholic reference way out of proportion. The point that unfortunately didn;t get across was that i dont understand how muslim females wearing a hijab and teaching others about it is so bad when people from other religions and cultures do the same. By saying that this group of people doing it is bad, but this other group that im apart of,who is doing the same is good just doesnt make any sense.
5) the “choice” of the hijab : Millions of women around the world openly and freely CHOOSE to wear a hijab. I agree with you that there are plenty other women who dont choose to do it and are forced to. Is that the hijabs fault? No, its the people who treat others horribly and deals with things in bad ways that are at fault..
6) The “challenges” of the hijab aren’t in reference to “having” to wear it. The challenges that stem from the hijab are the ways in which women get treated by others just because they wear one. People have this notation in their heads that it’s a sign of oppression. But its not, instead its meant to empower the woman. (Not to be judged by appearance and sexuality)
7)The day was for girls to, by participating, get a feel for why women might wear the hijab and understand some of the reasons….and to support them in it if they chose.
8)If you want to talk about leaving behind culture and about melding into the culture of this country, then remember that this country is often referred to as the “melting pot” of the world. America’s culture is all other cultures combined, with freedom to practice what you want.
9)No one at the school was forced to wear a hijab. They had a choice on whether or not they wanted to participate. Only the students at the school can say if it was “imposed” upon them, and the way in which they have responded, it certainty doesn’t seem so.
And by the way, i live in the realest of worlds and would prefer to stop discussing non-sense things about language with you such as the word ‘picture’.
At the end of the day its seems you will always have a differing opinion which i certaintly dont agree with, but the same freedom of speech that allows Mr. Spencer to write the things he does, also allows me to speak my mind as i did. Dont tell me what i do and do not mean. And take your own advice in telling people about what they do and do not know.

A very small percentage of students chose to participate in Hijab Day, and in a school of slightly over 400 students, that isn’t many–probably barely double-digits. The amount of press and the vitriolic comments have created far more of an impression than the actual event would have done by itself. In their eyes, it was just a Senior Project, one of several on campus. Had this website not publicized the information, the day would have been forgotten by yesterday, and they would have moved on quickly. It would have been a footnote, at best. Most kids just wanted to eat lunch and hang out with their friends, not be part of a social exercise. Students who didn’t care about it one way or another have now jumped on their soapboxes to defend their school, their friend, their belief in respecting diversity, their belief in their right to express themselves, or just to piss off an adult/act as trolls.
Our community and district are small for our city–it has 2 standard public high schools, and 2 charter public high schools. NP3 is the smallest of these. All of our high schools are diverse in population. Perhaps it would be easier if communities consisted of people of the same color skin, faith, upbringing, and daily habits–if they were tribal, if you will, or lived in small villages. Realistically, however, the world has changed far beyond that–cities are large, world travel takes but a day, people speak more than one language, families move for jobs, for schools–for a myriad of reasons. Our school community is built on the shared belief of a strong education that readies our students for a world that is ever-changing. Choosing to send children to a charter school (or private school, etc.) here means that a family is heavily invested in their students’ futures, because the expectation of participation in the joint educational process is generally higher than in a traditional public school. (Sadly,) it’s no longer a case of, “Oh, you’ll just walk to the neighborhood school.” People move districts, move miles, pay thousands of dollars per year, all to get their kids into specific schools.
The outrage expressed here has been surprising to many, simply because so many see the situation so differently from the students (and their families). While some see it as indicative of a weakening of our American values and a welcome to those who threaten our way of life, this diverse community does not. For our students, it was simply yet another educational experience–one to participate in, or not; one to yawn through or make fun of, as teenagers do; part of an ordinary Wednesday that would have blended into Thursday, which meant Friday and the weekend wasn’t that far away. They were probably more interested in lining up for the Pizza for Prom sale, because duh.
The students who have come to this page to inject themselves into the process include a current student, a former student-now-future lawyer in college at one of the best universities in the country, a former student who moved to a HS in another district, and a student who doesn’t attend our school, but has friends who do. Our community is small–it’s more like three degrees of separation here. If you don’t know someone, you probably know someone else who knows that first person.
tl/dr: was anyone forced to wear it? no.
did a lot of girls participate? no.
was it school sponsored? no.
did the guys participate? they could wear bracelets, if they wanted to, but, like the girls, few did.
could you do a Star of David Day, or ask if others wanted to drag a wooden cross across campus to experience what Jesus did, or create an internment camp and invite students to participate in what the Japanese Americans and Italian Americans and German Americans experienced during WWII, or something like that? sure, if it related to a school project and within the same set of boundaries that the hijab day followed.
were we taken by surprise by this response? somewhat, but because we’re adults, we get it
was the staff meeting mandatory? umm, aren’t all staff meetings mandatory?
did the principal “strongly encourage” all females to participate? no. he strongly encourages students to get to school on time, though.
are we letting the terrorists win? hell, no (one of the students who responded here is so patriotic he practically bleeds red, white and blue–not an exaggeration–it gets boring after a while)
do we encourage our kids to respect others’ differences, as long as they respect ours? hell, yeah.

Anon_y_mous – thank you for posting this. I think it’s been most helpful in getting the situation into better perspective. I’ll come back when I have time to ask a few questions, but I get the sense that you understand the people here and sympathize with our concerns – and that perhaps the event at the school is not a manifestation of the usual politically correct bullying that we’ve seen and have come to expect. Although the involvement of CAIR and their propaganda in any way is a worry, and is what got me most riled up (and rightly so) – that and the worry that kids who didn’t participate or who openly dissented would be treated as bigots.
I hope to get back here to discuss this further.
And I hope the kids will hang around and that the discussions on this thread can be moved in a more constructive and clarifying direction. When people think they’re fighting bigots or fighting the destruction of their liberty by advocates of supremacist religion, everyone’s moral and righteous blood gets up and they don’t really hear each other or get down to the whole truth and nothing but.

While I appreciate your civility, I don’t believe much constructive conversation will take place here. Nor do you. The original post on this page was ill-informed, and purposely goaded who I assume are regular visitors with disinformation. To answer your queries, I will say this:
No, “kids who didn’t participate or who openly dissented” were not “treated as bigots.” No, “the event at the school [was] not a manifestation of the usual politically correct bullying that [you’ve] seen and have come to expect.”
If posters here, who seem to troll more often than not, had actually listened to what the students (not “students”) were saying, instead of stereotypically assuming the kids were being duped, perhaps something different would have occurred. As it is, and at the risk of sounding uncouth, this site is near full with knee-jerk reactionary assholes, content with inflammatory and inane comments meant to empower themselves while comfortably ensconced at home on the sofa. I understand their actions are fear-based. I understand the fear is of Islam becoming a world order. I understand that is what so many who practice Islam believe to be their destiny. I just don’t believe the posters here to be much different than their counterparts. It’s just a matter of degrees one way or another when one speaks of extremists.

Like how hateful, or islamophobic, this site is, and how terrible muslims have it, despite all evidence to the contrary?
Also, what qualifies you to say who’s a NP3 student or not?
“ this site is near full with knee-jerk reactionary assholes, content with inflammatory and inane comments meant to empower themselves while comfortably ensconced at home on the sofa.”
He says, projecting his lack of self-awareness.
“ I understand their actions are fear-based.”
And here is the usual “islamophobia” charge.
“I just don’t believe the posters here to be much different than their counterparts. It’s just a matter of degrees one way or another when one speaks of extremists.”
Because being against islamic terrorism is not much different than being in favour of it, right?
Tell us, anon_y_mous, have you read the quran, sira and ahadith? Do you know anything about islam or are you just content in assuming that anyone who opposes islamic supremacy is just an “asshole, content with inflammatory and inane comments meant to empower themselves while comfortably ensconced at home on the sofa“?

Buffster: I’ve been reading Robert Spencer’s posts and books and participating in the comments for a few years. I’ve read a couple of Robert Spencer’s books, read many of his articles, and watched many of his videos. My evaluation of him as a person is that he’s intelligent, well-informed on his subject, and honest. *However* he is capable – as is everyone – of making erroneous assumptions from time to time. His original post may have been mis-informed, but I do not believe it was deliberate disinformation. If it isn’t true, for example, that CAIR was present at the presentation to the staff meeting, I’m sure that Robert did not make that up. He would have been mis-informed himself. If he didn’t check into the situation sufficiently before writing his article, shame on him!
But by having people write to the principal, that brought a good deal of response from teachers and students, which I think is a good thing.
Can constructive conversation happen here? As I said, I’ve been around this website for quite a while now, and I know that constructive conversation *does* take place here (as well as knee-jerking), or I wouldn’t bother with this site. If you read my posts, I think you’ll find that I try to work out the point of view of the person who’s disagreeing with me, that I’m open to correction, that I’m looking to refine my understanding. I’m not the only one here that does that.
The vast majority of regular posters here agree that Islam, as it stands in the Koran and the example of Mohammad’s life, *if accepted in its entirety and put fully into practice*, leads to a Muslim aiming to bring all of humanity under the rule of Islam. A Muslim who swallows the religion whole is a danger to everyone, including those Muslims who want nothing to do with the horrible parts of Mohammad’s example. But I think, from my experience here, that most regulars know (and definitely Robert Spencer himself knows, and states often) that Muslims are not all sharia-pushing, Islamic supremicists.
However, people here do vary in their levels of calm and patience and thoughtfulness. Some are better at listening than others. Some are better at analysing and expressing themselves than others. Some knee-jerk a lot, and think they know what a person is saying because they expect a certain thing. Everyone does that once in a while.
And all these people, while agreeing on the danger we face from undiluted Islam, have plenty of arguments among ourselves. We aren’t all of one mind on everything.
But if you’re patient and keep at it, don’t post while you’re angry,do your best to make your points clear, and don’t deliberately insult anyone, you actually can make headway. You can model a better way of addressing these most important issues and concerns. To me, the important thing here is not how other people are thinking, but how *I* am thinking, how *I* am expressing my thinking, how I’m improving my thinking, and my skills at getting my thoughts across to others. And challenging my own assumptions.
I do not assume that people who seem stubbornly stuck in what I think is a mistaken point of view will remain that way forever. Assuming that can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, and I’ve proved such an assumption wrong time and again. Sometimes a calm, analytical mind that puts forward questions and concerns without insulting one’s opponent actually gets the opponent to listen. He might not agree with you, but you might eventually get him to understand you on your own terms, if you’ve made those terms clear in a way he can grasp from his own context. And then, over time, as he ponders what you said in the shower or in bed or while changing the oil in his car, he might finally see your point and agree with you. You just don’t know.
Anon_y_mous: “No, ‘kids who didn’t participate or who openly dissented’ were not ‘treated as bigots’” No, ‘the event at the school [was] not a manifestation of the usual politically correct bullying that [you’ve] seen and have come to expect.'”

Buffster: Unfortunately, we read about a lot of schools (and know of first-hand examples and friends’ experiences) where political correctness and propaganda has trumped true education, and where people are too quickly labelled “bigots” for raising certain questions. This is very common coming from the progressive or American liberal side. But clearly, it doesn’t matter what side of the argument a person is on, the zeal to fight the good fight can lead to jumping the gun.
You said “I understand the fear is of Islam becoming a world order. I understand that is what so many who practice Islam believe to be their destiny.”
I’m glad to know you understand this.

I’d like to relate a story told to me today by a friend of mine.
His daughter, about 14 years old, found a case of cyberbullying among her classmates online. One of her classmates is struggling with depression, and a few other classmates have ganged up on her online, urging her to kill herself, saying horrible things to her. His daughter reported this to the school.
“Good God!” I said to him. “WHY would kids do such a thing?”
“The little girl is a Muslim,” he said.
So, you see people, there *is* a serious problem faced by Muslim kids.
In our concern to make sure that kids aren’t being blinded by propaganda to the serious threats within the Muslim community, we need to make sure that we aren’t blinded to the acts of cruelty and injustice that are going on in angry reaction to that threat.
Sure, when Muslim girls from strict families are abused by their families for being “too Westernized”, that’s more serious than being taunted by some idiot hooligan kids… usually. But it might be every bit as destructive if the Muslim being taunted is already suffering real depression.
This is an issue that a Muslim teen would naturally want to tackle, and should tackle. *How* she went about it is the all-important question, and how the students and teachers dealt with probing, challenging questions – and whether students would even feel comfortable raising such questions – is the justified concern. If this is a school where probing in all directions fearlessly is encouraged, which I think is rare these days, and where the topic of harassment of Muslims can be dealt with without unquestioned propaganda, then that’s a commendable thing.
And it *is* possible, regardless of what I think are our reasonable expectations to the contrary, for a Muslim girl to give a talk about “Islamophobia” that addresses only the cruel treatment that Muslims sometimes experience when they’re just minding their own business, and the assumptions that some people make that *all* Muslims are down with the jihad.
While we can’t know firsthand what really happened at the school, one way or the other, I think we should develop more useful, productive ways of listening to opponents and engaging in discussion than what has resulted from the “Hijab Day” article. The subjects we’re dealing with are too important to muddy them up with personal insults. We can do better than that, and we need to do better than that or all we’re doing is talking to ourselves.

As a former member of this LAW BASED high school, students AND TEACHERS, BOTH, know EXACLTY what we are talking about and what legal issues are being crossed AND ARE NOT being crossed. Students are ENCOURAGED, NOT FORCED BY OUR PRINCIPLE TOM RUTTEN, to spread awareness of any and all issues that are both relevant AND problematic to each individual student. Student use their first amendment right to speak freely of these tragic issues how they choose. Whether it’s race issues, religious issues, etc. Taking away that freedom AND ALLOWING an article like this to HARASS a school’s principle is not right and shows the true hatred behind the makers of this absolutely RIDICULOUS article. I feel sorry for all of you who have hate towards the Muslim community because it just shows how TRULY IGNORANT you are to the culture as a whole and how horrible the “all of you are violent and killers” stigma of being apart of the Muslim community is. I’m a proud catholic Mexican-American woman and I have never in my life been MORE PROUD of graduating from THE INCREDIBLY DIVERSE California distinguished NP3 high-school. However, I understand, AS AN ADULT AND A US CITIZEN, that everyone deserves a voice. Therefore, your choice to practice your 1st amendment right is just as important as these students.
To my friend Parker who left the comment about this STUDENT ORGANIZED EVENT: he is completely lately right! This event was not to “muslimify” any students and was not put on by any sort of “terrorist affiliated group.” These are regular high-school students, aware and educated on THEIR RIGHTS AS A US CITIZEN , who feel like they will AND CAN make a change in communities.
And to those who will comment on this reply with hate towards my race, gender and opinion: just know that NP3 high-school will never change and I’m proud to have been a pirate. I’m ready for all of you who hide behind that screen full of hate.

Apparently, you don’t.
“Students are ENCOURAGED, NOT FORCED BY OUR PRINCIPLE TOM RUTTEN, to spread awareness of any and all issues that are both relevant AND problematic to each individual student.”
“PRINCIPLE”? Hmmmm….
“Student use their first amendment right to speak freely of these tragic issues how they choose. Whether it’s race issues, religious issues, etc. Taking away that freedom AND ALLOWING an article like this to HARASS a school’s principle is not right and shows the true hatred behind the makers of this absolutely RIDICULOUS article.”
So it’s OK to use the first amendment right to speak one’s mind unless you don’t like what others have to say, in which case it’s “harassment” and “hatred”.
BTW, you misspelled principal twice.
“I feel sorry for all of you who have hate”
Again with the accusation of hate. You have nothing to stand on, ergo the false accusations.
“towards the Muslim community because it just shows how TRULY IGNORANT you are to the culture as a whole”
I believe that most regulars here are more acquainted with muslim culture than you.
“and how horrible the “all of you are violent and killers” stigma of being apart of the Muslim community is.”
And yet, if we go by the comments of the so-called “students” of NP3, that’s not a thing there. Apparently, everyone knows one another very well, and everyone lives in a wonderful multicultural universe. So which way is it? Are you a idyllic community where no one cares about race or religion or do muslims there suffer terribly from the stigma of willingly professing a religion that mandates warfare against, and subjugation of, non-muslims, allows for wife-beating, sexual slavery and sex with children? You can’t have it both ways, you know.
“I’m a proud catholic Mexican-American woman and I have never in my life been MORE PROUD of graduating from THE INCREDIBLY DIVERSE California distinguished NP3 high-school.”
Qué bién que habla ésta chica!
“However, I understand, AS AN ADULT AND A US CITIZEN, that everyone deserves a voice. Therefore, your choice to practice your 1st amendment right is just as important as these students.”
Except that you claimed that by doing so we were taking away freedoms, and harassing and hating the school’s principal.
“To my friend Parker who left the comment about this STUDENT ORGANIZED EVENT: he is completely lately right! This event was not to “muslimify” any students”
Who said it was?
“and was not put on by any sort of “terrorist affiliated group.””
So how did terrorist-linked CAIR and MSA came to play a role in this?
“These are regular high-school students, aware and educated on THEIR RIGHTS AS A US CITIZEN , who feel like they will AND CAN make a change in communities.”
Change from what into what? These so-called “students” have been harping on and on about their wonderfully tolerant multicultural paradise of a community.
“And to those who will comment on this reply”
You mean, the ones who use their first amendment right?.
“with hate towards my race, gender and opinion”
There you go again with “hate”, and disingenuously trying to pass the idea that your comment will be criticized by anything but the content of your words.
“just know that NP3 high-school will never change”
Huh, didn’t you just told us that the students were trying to change their community? Let me refresh your memory:

First, Thank you so much for that amusing reply, as well as the spell check on the word principle. Haha its too bad the “huh, didn’t you just told us…” Part made it very clear that 1. You have not been reading some of the hateful things some of our fellow Internet users have been writing about this article and 2. Your grammar is just as bad and annoying as your reply. However, thank you so much for that reply in Spanish, that was not condescending and racist at all haha, again, thank you SOOO much for the amusement. It’s really refreshing to know I can get a good laugh off of this website by defending my old high-school.
But I have a very small question for you: what are your thoughts on this “hijab day?” Which clearly you’re not a fan of.

Such as?
“and 2. Your grammar is just as bad and annoying as your reply.”
Two things to note:
1 – I replied to ALL your points while you dismiss my answer as “bad and annoying” without bothering to reply to any of the points I raised. That tells us a lot about your character and lack of willingness to have a frank, honest discussion.
2 – English is my 3rd language whereas you graduated from an American high school, and still I managed to correct you.
Your knee jerk, “NO U” response further cements what I said above about your lack of willingness to have a frank, honest discussion.
But since you clearly have issues understanding English, I’ll repeat the question.
Firs you told us this:
Then you told us this:
So which way is it? “Make a change” or “never change”?
“However, thank you so much for that reply in Spanish, that was not condescending and racist at all haha”
No, it wasn’t.
Prefieres que hablemos en español?
“again, thank you SOOO much for the amusement. It’s really refreshing to know I can get a good laugh off of this website by defending my old high-school.”
And it boils down to that – blindly defending you alleged old high school without any regard for facts. Or proper English.

*in advance- excuse any spelling and grammar errors I may have made, after a thirteen hours operational flight, everything is a tad blurry*
I sat here and read majority of these posts back and forth only leading to one question that still remains (in my head, that is), “Have any of you actually lived outside of the United States?” Furthermore, “Have any of you decided to move to the Middle East and experience life there?”
I feel there are so many individuals on this post deciding to respond with opinions formed based from news segments they have watched. When your opinions have been skewed by the media and you do not have FIRST HAND knowledge it becomes a lot harder to validate misconstrued opinions. I attended personally NP3 from the very beginning of opening its doors, was on the committee to making very open deciding factors about our school from school colors, to mascot, to how we would decide what week spirit week would fall on to how we decide what should be included in spirit week. We even had an open discussion about the school uniform/dress code that was originally in effect from the beginning of opening its doors.
The one thing I will say NP3 has over every other institute in Natomas is the ability to recognize their students as humans capable of being civil and soon to be contributors to society. The same principal, Tom Rutton (who was the principal I met summer of 2006 as he was introducing this new school to my parents, as well as other future parents and students) is very fond of assisting and guiding his students into being future leaders in society. Mrs. Gorman and teachers like Mr. Hagarty, are the reason I was able to be more open minded and view the world and different socioeconomic backgrounds as well as cultures with an open mind. I currently live and reside in the Middle East, one of the seven Emirates to be exact, and some of the things that I can remember being publically shared on news broadcasts couldn’t be further from the truth of what I have experienced. Yet some of the things are spot on.
I posted this just to say it’s the same with how people from different countries view America and Americans. On an everyday basis I continue to personally abolish some of these outrageous things people think but then again you can’t fix or change everything.
With that being said, I would love to say kudos to NP3. They are forever being progressive in many aspects and they positively influence their students on a much more personal level than I can say for many other institutions in the world. The student who decided to make this her senior project I commend you and I would love to know in four years what your senior thesis would be upon graduating college.
