Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Vanderbilt University: Muslim Brotherhood-linked student group tries to bully professor who criticized Islam into silence

Jan 21, 2015 1:19 pm By Robert Spencer

Carol-M.-SwainThe Chicago Tribune reported in 2004 that the U.S. arm of the Muslim Brotherhood “helped establish the Muslim Students Association.” The Muslim Brotherhood, according to a captured internal document that names the MSA as one of its arms in the U.S., is dedicated in its own words to “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within, and sabotaging its miserable house.” What better way to do that than to intimidate into silence everyone who dares raise even the slightest objection to Islamic jihad terror?

The dean of students’ involvement in this thuggish assault on the freedom of speech is unconscionable, but not surprising.

“‘Liberal,’ ‘Tolerant’ Vanderbilt Muslims Seek To Bully Black Professor Into Silence,” by Eric Owens, Daily Caller, January 21, 2015:

A black Vanderbilt University professor’s op-ed critical of Islamic terrorism has touched off a wave of protest by Muslim students and other critics.

The op-ed author is Carol Swain, a longtime professor of law and political science at Vanderbilt and a self-proclaimed political conservative. Her op-ed, entitled “Charlie Hebdo attacks prove critics were right about Islam,” appeared in The Tennessean (Nashville’s main newspaper) on Jan. 15.

Swain, who opposes burqas and advocates stronger efforts at assimilation for American Muslims, argued that Islam “poses an absolute danger to us and our children unless it is monitored better than it has been under the Obama administration.”

In response, Muslim students, led by Vanderbilt undergraduate Farishtay Yamin, took great offense.

Yamin told The Vanderbilt Hustler, the campus newspaper, that she “could not believe her eyes” when she read Swain’s column. The student also quickly labeled Swain’s opinion as “hate speech.”

She then used Facebook to set up a “Campus-Wide Protest Against Hate Speech Published in the Tennessean” on Saturday afternoon.

Attendance at the fairly brief event was in the low hundreds, The College Fix reports. Students who showed up brought signs emblazoned with slogans such as “Better a brat than a bigot.”

Yamin, who is the publicity chair for Vanderbilt’s Muslim Student Association, told audience in no uncertain terms that a black female professor’s speech must be restricted if she says “these kinds of things” in the future.

“What I’m really trying to show her is that she can’t continue to say these kinds of things on a campus that’s so liberal and diverse and tolerant,” Yamin declared.

Swain “used a platform of murdering people to gain publicity,” Yamin charged.

“There is no way the students here are going to allow further attacks on their own peers,” the Muslim undergrad also threatened, according to the Fix.

“And if the university respects us as human beings, it has to come out and condemn these statements and promise us that it’s not going to happen again in the future.”

Mark Bandas, the dean of students at Vanderbilt, also got into the act. He appeared at the “Campus-Wide Protest Against Hate Speech” to offer encouragement.

“Ensuring that this campus is welcoming to, and supportive of, all of our students,” he told the assembled dozens. He also urged students to “engage in dialogue” when presented with “polarizing speech.”…

The student also quickly labeled Swain’s opinion as “hate speech.”

Hate speech? Leftists keep using that expression. I don’t think it means what they think it does…

That girl seems to lack any form of self-awareness. They have to restrict something that they don’t like because they’re so tolerant. Welcome to Obama’s America, where you’re free to speak your mind as long as what you say is in conformity with the party line.

      God bless Carol Swain.

Now *there* is an American professor who really *is* a Professor: who can *think* straight and has commonsense.

      Her students are fortunate.

Look at what trouble these people cause. We allow them into our country. We allow them into our prestigious universities and they object to thoughtful conversation backed by fact. They protest the truth. They rally against our freedom of speech and our freedom of press.

Foxes in the henhouse, just as Professor Swain said in her article.

Why is an examination of Islam on campus causing protests? Because the campus is so tolerant!

With logic like this, it would be easy to declare with a straight face, “ISIS has nothing to do with Islam”

That professor who want and is trying to bully those who criticize Islam into silence shows that she may not really care of Muslims or others criticize other religions, but only Islam. Nevertheless all this shows is that Islam is so very weak in nature that it can’t stand up to or hold up to criticism. Sine then there may be no actual good arguments to defend Islam there are some people who will try as best as they can to silence those who would criticize Islam into silence by intimidation and coercion because there are no real actual sound rational arguments based on logic or reason to up hold this religion. Thus they have to resort to using tactics of duress.

“That professor who want and is trying to bully those who criticize Islam into silence shows that she may not really care of Muslims or others criticize other religions, but only Islam.”

It’s the other way round! The professor, Dr. Carol Swain said that Islam “poses an absolute danger to us and our children unless it is monitored better than it has been under the Obama administration.”

The following two people, especially the first, are the ones trying to intimidate her into silence:

“Farishtay Yamin who is the publicity chair for Vanderbilt’s Muslim Student Association”

“Mark Bandas, the dean of students at Vanderbilt, also got into the act”

  6. Wellington says

Islam is a prescription for terrorism (Mohammed himself said, “I have been made victorious with terror.” {Bukhari Hadith 4.52.220}) and so it is imperative for Muslims to silence the truth about this in free societies as they attempt to make them into unfree societies which Islam is superb at doing. Aiding this disgusting effort are clueless and often cowardly dhimmis like Mark Bandas. Kudos though to Carol Swain for having the courage to do something which, in America, it used to be much easier to do——-speak the truth. And nowhere in America has it become harder to speak the truth than on college and university campuses which have increasingly become little islands of Orwellianism.

Pack attack is used by many animals in the wild, such as wolves, hyenas and even lions. It is very effective and lethal, even to prey animals who are, in many cases, bigger and/or stronger than the attacking animal. The attacking pack pursue a group of animals, wild buffaloes, zebras or even elephants, then gradually try to isolate one of the group which is deemed to be the most vulnerable, being on the periphery or smaller.

After isolating it enough, they start the attack, which depending on the size and force of the prey, it may take from few minutes to more than an hour. I always wondered what would happen if the whole group of wild buffaloes or zebras charged back at the attacking pack, which many times are smaller in size or less powerful. After good analysis, I arrived at the conclusion that at least in most attack cases, the attackers would have left empty handed had the group defended itself as one! Instead, what you see, in all animal documentaries, that each one in the group is running for its own life leaving behind one of their own as a meal for that hungry pack.

That’s exactly the technique used by Muslims, especially in the west, to neutralize any one who dares to criticize, expose or tell about the reality of Islam and/or Jihad. The fragmented nature and individualism of western societies are very helpful in that regard. Every time this happens to someone or an entity that was courageous enough and caring enough for the well being of humanity, to say or tell something about the true nature of Islam, it’s almost always that person or entity is left alone trying to defend itself, if at all, in face of the ensuing vicious attack by Muslims.

Apart from some support, from few marginalised sites and individuals, like this site, these courageous people, publications or entities face complete silence and evasiveness from the outlets that count the most or which have big enough clout to save and support these inspiring people.

Last week, it was Charlie Hebdo, the last couple of days, it was Fox Network turn and now Dr. carol Swain, a decent respected woman, mother and professor of law at Vanderbilt University.

That’s why I think it’s very urgent and much needed, given that Islam has declared war on all of us who are not submitting to it, to show support and encourage those people and entities individually each time one of them shows courage and speaks for the truth, well being of our children and grand children and above all the future of humanity.

Send an email, a letter, give a phone call or even a hug, if possible, to him/her/them, for encouragement. It’s much needed and appreciated by them and us, in the same time.

We are all in this fight!

This brave professor is actually doing her job: she is stimulating critical thought. The answer to unpopular ideas is debate, rather than shouting.

Islam is the mother lode of bad ideas, so Muslims are helpless in debate and almost invariably are crushed. Islam must be challenged, disputed, confronted, tested, questioned, analyzed, opposed, exposed and finally rejected as dangerous, morally unsound, illogical, unhistorical and unbelievable.

You need not fret about destroying us from within, we’re doing it ourselves, and would have done the dirty deed even without the appearance of you hairy complainers on our shores. To wit, Prez Barack Hussein supports you even when deposed, and one of your First Family served in a highly sensitive position in the State Department. 12. dlbrand says

    Jan 21, 2015 at 3:39 pm

Muhammad’s victorious entry into and thus his conquest over Mecca proves, he far prefers live, warm submissive bodies, then cold dead bodies of those incorrigible in their resistance to Islam and its so-called prophet.

The message to the Meccans that day remains the same, to the world, today: in short, refrain from resisting Islam’s advance, submit to its rule, and you will be safe; remain settled and firm in your disbelief in the “prophet” and the book and ways he brought, ‘ pay the painful price thereof.

Only deaf and blind fools fail to hear and see the truth in that just stated.

Here then, just one more example of the so-called prophet of Islam, and how he deals with those who insult him, as well as, what he had to say, with respect to the believers that take care of those who insult him:

Abdullah b. al-Harith related to me from his father that Asma’ bt. Marwan of the Banu Umayya b. Zayd, who was married to Yazid b. Zayd b. Hisn al-Khatmi, insulted the Prophet, vilified Islam and incited the people against the Prophet with poetry:

“I despise the Banu Malik and al-Nabit and Awf and I despise the Banu l-Khazraj
You obey a stranger who is from other than you; not from Murad or Madhhij,
Do you have hopes of him even after the killing of your chiefs
Like one who awaits a well-cooked broth?”

When her provocative words reached ‘Umayr b. ‘Adi b. Kharasha b.Umayya al-Khatmi, he said, “O God, indeed I promise that if you return the Messenger of God to Medina, I will surely kill her,” for the Messenger of God was in Badr. When the Messenger of God returned from Badr, ‘Umayr b. ‘Adi went looking for her in the middle of the night, and entered her home. Her children were sleeping around her, and one suckled at her breast. He touched her with his hand, and discovering the suckling babe pushed it from her. He placed his sword upon her heart and pierced her until it came out from behind her. Then he returned to pray the dawn prayer with the Prophet in Medina. When the Prophet turned and say ‘Umayr he said, “Did you kill the daughter of Marwan?” He replied, “Yes, for you are dearer to me than my father, O Messenger of God.” But ‘Umayr feared that he had undermined the Prophet by killing her. He said, “Do you fault me for that, O Messenger of God?” The Prophet replied, “Two goats will not thrust about her.” And surely this was the first time such words were heard from the Prophet. ‘Umayr said: The Prophet then turned towards those who were around him and said, “If you desire to look at a man who secretly helped God and His Messenger, look at ‘Umayr b. ‘Adi.” ‘Umar b. al-Khattab said, “Look at this blind one who is relentless in his obedience to God.” He [the Prophet] said, “Do not say blind one, but rather, the one with vision!”

When ‘Umayr returned from the Prophet he found all ‘Asma’s children burying her. They approached him when they saw him coming from Medina, and said, “O ‘Umayr, did you kill her? He replied, “Yes; and do me any harm and you will see what happens to you! By Him who holds my soul in His hands, if you, all of you together, say what she said, I will surely strike you with my sword until I kill you, or die in the attempt.”

That record, via the same transmitter, then provides this honorary praise for ‘Umayr, from Hassan b. Thabit:

Banu Wa’il and Banu Waqif and Khatma are inferior to the Banu al-Khazraj.
When your sister called her woes with her lament, and death approached,
She stirred up a man of glorious origin, noble in his coming in and going out
He colored her in the redness of blood
Shortly before dawn, and he felt no quilt.
God will convey you to soothing Paradise,
Rejoicing in the blessing of the entry.

“As for those who abuse Allah and His Messenger [– meaning unbelievers who … deny His Messenger–] Allah’s curse is on them in this world …. ” (33:57)

“They are an accursed people [– far from mercy]. Wherever they are found they should be seized and mercilessly put to death. [This is the judgment on them.]” (33:61)

“This is Allah’s pattern [and custom] with those who passed away before [– a reference to what happened in past nations to hypocrites who unsettled believers.] You will not find any alteration in Allah’s pattern.” (33:62)

So, go ahead. dlbrand. Set the record straight. Are you perhaps a little too subtle in the sarcastic department (or, to be fair, are Sarah and myself just a little too dim to catch your erudite sarcasm?), or are you exactly what Sarah and I think of you, i.e., just another rank and deluded Muslim making yet another excuse for the rank religion which is Islam?

No Muslim would refer to Muhammad as “so-called” prophet.

Nevertheless, it is relatively common for a Muslim to post here a long quotation that normal people would consider to be abhorrent and reprehensible, but to the Muslim, it simply proves his case, as it is a quotation from the Koran or Hadith. This illustrates the moral inversion of Islam, which judges an act moral because it was commanded or done by Muhammad, rather than having an a priori morality that stands on its own.

No Muslim would refer to Muhammad as “so-called” prophet.

          Indeed, Ronald, Thank you.

In brief—this fight is much too costly, much too potentially deadly, for me to either waste much time on individuals who fail to read that which they then authoritatively comment on, or fail to take time to note that which they read.

Thank you, Ronny—so too, Terry, for your perception.

That said, to your next comment, Ron:

Nevertheless, it is relatively common for a Muslim to post here a long quotation that normal people would consider to be abhorrent and reprehensible, but to the Muslim, it simply proves his case, as it is a quotation from the Koran or Hadith. This illustrates the moral inversion of Islam, which judges an act moral because it was commanded or done by Muhammad, rather than having an a priori morality that stands on its own.

          Indeed.

Nonetheless, few times, if ever, have I seen or heard Muslims, in defending their faith and their so-called prophet, in talking to non-believers, refer to the instances similar to that that I cited in the post above.

Fact of this matter is, seems, just yesterday or so, David Woods posted a clip featuring the following hadith, an instance similar to that which I post above:

“It was narrated that ‘Ikramah said: ‘Ibn Abbas told us that a blind man had a female slave who had borne him a child (Umm Walad) who reviled the Prophet and disparaged him, and he told her not to do that, but she did not stop, and he rebuked her, but she paid no heed. One night she started to disparage and revile the Prophet, so he took a dagger and put it in her stomach and pressed on it and killed her. There fell between her legs a child who was smeared with the blood that was there.

The next morning mention of it was made to the Prophet and he assembled the people and said: By Allah, I adjure the man who did this to stand up.’ The blind man stood up and came through the people, trembling, and he came and sat before the Prophet. He said: O Messenger of Allah, I am the one who did it. She used to revile you and disparage you, and I told her not to do it, but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she paid no heed.

He did not post that because he is Muslim, he posted it for the same reason I posted the al-Waqidi provided narrative I posted above: because he is aware of the hadith and wants others likewise to be aware of what is provable basic Islam.

In short: we will only know Islam if we know Islam. We will only know Islam if we, to the best of our ability, know that in their “Sacred Text.”

My aim is to fulfill that which, knowing what I know, I believe is my duty to humanity: show that that I know is in their “sacred text.”

I believe that is incumbent upon all of us (non-Muslims) who have knowledge of Islam: share it, always, to the best of our ability, get it out there. Tomorrows are not assured us.

ey then authoritatively comment on, or fail to take time to note that which they read.

          Indeed.
Nonetheless, few times, if ever, have I seen or heard Muslims refer to the instances similar to that that I cited in the post above.

I have two sons from her who are like two pearls, and she was good to me. Last night she started to revile you and disparage you, and I took a dagger and placed it on her stomach and I pressed on it until I killed her.’

Sorry about that. Serves me right for not reading your initial comment more closely. I will do my best not to do something like this again. Again, my apologies. Wellington and his “angels”, with a few, peripheral distractions (yes Voeg that includes you) will “look after” your posts. Yes, indeed, pumbar, but $3000. sounds like much too good of a deal, therefore, can we make it ten?

Also, is it best if I just post my card number here?

    I read Professor Swain’s op-ed.

Well written, articulate, factual and–of most importance–her fearless personal opinion.

The only two ‘errors’ I noted were:

    1) “the Prophet Muhammad” rather than ‘the Muslim Prophet Muhammad’.

    and

    2) while she correctly refers to Islam–jut Islam–throughout the article, she errs with one reference to “the dangers of radical Islam.”

I’ve seen her on several television news/opinion programs in the past.

    Smart, brave woman!

Will Yamin believe her eyes if she reads this authentic hadith?

Universities today reflect the prevailing trend in liberalism of cultural moral equivalence. According to this dogma, all cultures are morally equal, and any attempt to deny that by pointing to distinguishing flaws in a culture that would impugn the moral stature of that culture is racist. This thinking represents an extension of racial moral equivalence, an idea that triumphed after the Holocaust and the end of slavery and segregation. Unlike cultural equivalence, racial equivalence is sound because making moral distinctions based on physiology is obvious nonsense. However, once they had a good idea, human nature being what it is, the concept was then extrapolated into the realm of absurdity, where all cultures are equivalent and anyone who disagrees is a racist. Race is conflated with culture, cheapening the meaning of racism.
Thus, it is racist to impugn Islamic cultures, to imply that Western cultures are better overall or that Muslims have any fundamental problems. A good example of the absurd lengths to which some people will go to make this case is Noam Chomsky’s recent statement that the Charlie Hebdo massacre is equivalent to the journalists killed accidentally by Israeli or US bombing raids against jihadist groups.
In the political realm, cultural moral equivalence is used to justify open borders, special privileges for Muslims, aid to Muslim entities such as Hamas/PLO and an evenhanded approach to Israel and her enemies. It is a wrongheaded and dangerous concept, and it is undermining Western civilization.

Yes, BO/BS was spouting this leftist garbage last night as he sighted “the dignity of all human persons”. This immoral stance caused Hillery to advise empathy for the unspeakably depraved. Francis-Bergoglio is full of it under “ecumenism”. It is Marxism and it is evil.

“Unlike cultural equivalence, racial equivalence is sound because making moral distinctions based on physiology is obvious nonsense. ”

      Well, not quite.

It is pretty lame now to still claim there are no differences between human racial groups. The evidence, in fact, is overwhelming.

Individuals are still equivalent in the eyes of the law. That is, every individual has equal rights, and is not to be disturbed if he does not break the law.

Nevertheless, the claim to racial equivalence has dire consequences. For example, the smaller proportion of blacks with college degrees or high positions is taken as evidence of discrimination if the races are assumed to be equivalent, as a group. The lower test scores of black students is taken as systematically inferior education if black students are assumed, as a group, to be as able to learn as non-blacks. The higher proportion of blacks in prison is taken as evidence of discrimination by the police and courts if it is assumed blacks and non-blacks are equally likely to act in a criminal manner.

      • jewdog says

        Jan 22, 2015 at 7:16 am

The only moral issue you identify is the higher crime rate of blacks, but that is a result of the pathologies of black culture in the West, not physiology.

There is a long-standing principle in Common Law that the one taking another before a court of equity must do so with clean hands. A cult devoted to lying about others (the Muslims canard that the Christian Trinity is God, Jesus, and Mary, for instance) and glorifying death and destruction scarcely qualifies.

Someone on campus (and spread it to all campuses, please) should pass around a petition asking that there be

a Constitutional Amendment to outlaw Death Cults.

Defined as “Any group which demands your death if you try to leave that group“.

And see if students would back it.

    (Without naming Islam, of course.)

How could anyone object to outlawing a group that declared a death penalty upon -and then tried to kill -people just for wishing to be free of that group?

Such an Amendment should actually be proposed in Congress.

But they are such gutless, brainless Quislings, I might as well expect then to impeach Obama for treason by his releasing of terrorists back to the battlefield during wartime.

We can protest all we want but unless our governments decide enough is enough nothing will change.
That is not going to happen any time soon.
So what do we do about that? In Australia there is a new party formed by the Q Society of Australia trying to do this. If we all cas out votes for them, the two main parties will lose any power they have or will have to do what we want in order to stop us from turning our back to them.
Seeing how Muslim votes have so much power and they are only just under 2% of popultion, imagine what the rest of us can do when we want to.
It’s all up to us. Start voting for the right people. Americans had a chance to vote for Ron Paul but faield to so now they suffer the consequences. If Australians faile to vote for parties dedicated to Australia and not Saudi Arabia then we will continue to have this problem and keep getting closer to the point of no return.

I find it interesting that the article being cited (written by Eric Owens), toward its end, has a strangely worded critique of Swain and Vanderbilt:

“Swain, a professor at prestigious, pricey Vanderbilt since 1999, was once both a high school dropout and a teen mother. Since then, she has earned multiple degrees from fancypants schools and written a number of scholarly books published by leading presses, notes Inside Higher Ed.”

The wording would seem to suggest that Swain, a full professor at Vanderbilt, should be ashamed of 1) a job at a prestigious university, 2) going from high school dropout and teen mother to full professor, 3) earning multiple academic degrees, 4) publishing multiple scholarly books.

I just don’t understand the minds of these so-called journalists. It is impossible for me to understand what value system they operate under.

Not only did you act shamefully, despicably, recklessly, and carelessly, you provided the perfect illustration of what happens to those who really and truly follow Islamic principles. Lying, cheating, and stealing all for the sake of Allah. Surely you must be proud. My heart breaks for you.

When, in the rare event someone from the generally debased ‘halls of academe’ has the courage to say what needs to be said (even though she does make the mistake of referring to ”radical islam”) they should know they have a huge amount of support.

Ms. Yamin declares “What I’m really trying to show her is that she can’t continue to say these kinds of things on a campus that’s so liberal and diverse and tolerant” and decries the professor’s rational comments as “hate speech”. Yet again, any appraisal of Muslim activity that doesn’t promote the “religion of peace” myth is labeled as hate speech. Ms. Yamin, a student, praises the university campus as “liberal,,,and tolerant” while at the same time attempting to muzzle the free speech rights of an experienced and observant professor..
