Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Video: Pamela Geller at Garland, Texas, Free Speech Rally

Jan 18, 2015 8:40 am By Robert Spencer

Yesterday Pamela Geller and I spoke to a massive crowd of patriots at a rally for free speech in Garland, Texas, outside of an Islamic conference about combating “Islamophobia” — that is, combating truthful speech about the jihad threat.

This video has poor sound quality, and the video quality is not so good, either. If a better video materializes, I will post it also. And if video materializes of my remarks, I will post it also. In the meantime, here it is — it is like a scratchy old Blind Willie Johnson record. Yes, it is hard to hear. Yes, it is worth the effort.

We should all have 100 car decals made up Je Suis Freedom of Speech and sell them to everyone we know for a nominal amount. Get this message out to the masses before the feeling passes.

Hello Alissa — Yes, I too have considered a way to show that I am on the counter-jihad side, for freedom of speech, by putting a decal on my car.

But unfortunately, that would almost certainly bring some retaliation by my neighborhood “lone wolves” — similar to the torching of vehicles in France last year.

Possibly but I think we have to do it any way. Make sure you have insurance. If not car decals then wear a t-shirt or sweatshirt with the same thing decal-ed on it whenever you go grocery shopping or to the mall. We can’t give in to fear or we lose. Don’t play in to their hands.

On the serious side of your important point about not giving in to fear, here is a link by a guy who really does advocate for courage — but with the necessary preparation :

Yes. We lovers of freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the equality of all people before the law, need to stand up and be counted. So what if the leftards and mohammedans shriek and spit ? Screw ’em.

I have a Tshirt that says ”Wherever Israel stands, I stand” and I frequently wear it when shopping.

I’ve also ordered an ”Je suis Charlie” Tshirt, and I’ll wear that, as soon as it arrives.

          Vive La Resistance !

Was there a counter-protest by the anti-free speech enforcers, known as the radical left; and their islamist friends?

If not, then the anti-free speech enforcers must have finally woken up to their senses.

    • RonaldB says

      Jan 18, 2015 at 10:24 am

      “Was there a counter-protest?”

I was at the protest. Yes, there was a counter-protest.

In Garland, Texas, the Muslims are still a tiny minority, so they are in the first stage of hijra. They present a nice face to outsiders.

And in fact, that is what the counter-protesters did. They carried signs saying “I love Christians, Jews, and Muslims”, “All lives matter”, “America is my home too.”…oh, and “Muhammad is the greatest”. But, the crowd was composed of leftist libertarians, aging leftists (too close to home for me), hijabed girls swaying to the song “Happy”, and various other fairly innocuous types…and a few obviously intense Muslims.

Understand that the theme of the conference we were protesting was “Stand up for the Prophet”. The way they put lipstick on that pig was to say that Islam really is a religion of peace and tolerance, as taught by Muhammad, so the conference was really to bring Muslims back to the real peaceful, tolerant teachings of the real Muhammad. By protesting the conference, we (the protesters) were really encouraging radical Islam by attacking the very people who were trying to slant Islam towards a peaceful direction.

The counter-protesters were rather well organized, and at the beginning stages, some of them would wander into the protester crowd, and protesters would wander into the counter-protester crowd. I asked one or two, nicely, what the purpose of the counter-protest was, and more-or-less got the answer I gave you above. Later on, some of the protesters became more rowdy, and the police, quite correctly in my opinion, asked the people on each side to stay separated. I should mention that the police were obviously personally sympathetic to the protesters, although as thorough professionals, they did their job of maintaining order and the rights of all, including the counter-protesters, quite admirably.

The protesters had a LOT of bikers, with heavy-duty Harley Davidsons. A lot of them were really fun to see and talk to close up. A couple of them became almost rowdy at one point, but they had a great respect for the police, and immediately cleared a driveway as soon as the police requested. All in all, I found myself wishing for at least a few parade marshal types to ask the more vociferous protesters to move back, but the anarchy actually worked quite well, for the most part.

One very obnoxious feature of the counter-protesters is that they had a very loud loudspeaker set up, which pretty much drowned out conversations in the area of the counter-protest. This was met by bikers riding up and down with their barely-muffled engines revving at full blast. Altogether, a good motivation to bring earplugs to the next protest. One of the songs they played was “Happy”, making me think of the lovely Iranian performers who made a very attractive, catching video of “Happy”, only to be arrested, incarcerated, threatened, tortured, and sentenced to 91 lashes for the offense of dancing with someone of the opposite sex they are not married to. “Happy” under Islam indeed.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg5qdIxVcz8

The huge benefit of the protest, in my opinion, is that it helps to open up the debate. Up to now, the mainstream news, like Obama, tiptoe carefully around the words “Muslim” and “Islam”. This was a LARGE protest, very connected to the Texas Grassroots movement. So, although there were some expressions there that made me cringe, what actually happened is that the debate is now focusing on Islam itself, and the suitability of Islam for a modern, representative society.

You can read the local coverage here:
      http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-news/garland-mesquite/headlines/20150118-protesters-picket-islamic-conference-in-garland.ece

I want to stress that no counter-protester was ever in danger, and that generally everyone got to express themselves. What they are becoming less able to do is sweep the issue of Islam itself under the rug, with the bland assertion that the real, peaceful Islam has been co-opted by “extremists”. That’s exactly the point that needs to be debated openly, in the mainstream media. And yes, some Muslim in America might begin to feel less welcome than they did. But feelings are not sticks, and they do not have the right to dictate the lawful reactions of other people.

Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer were there, and great as always. I don’t know how they have the time and intellect to process all the material they do, and still take part personally in demonstrations like this one, which may very well prove to be crucial to maintaining the country as we know it.

First of all, thank you for your service at the demonstration, RonaldB.

We are in a war and I believe that all who demonstrate for freedom in these events deserve a medal.

Particularly helpful are detailed “after action” reports such as Roland provided. ALL information on these events is useful for planning future festivities. So, a few comments on the comments:

“By protesting the conference, we (the protesters) were really encouraging radical Islam by attacking the very people who were trying to slant Islam towards a peaceful direction.”

    Yes and no.
It is very important to understand (and repeat and explain) that the people “who are trying to slant Islam towards a peaceful direction,” are in fact DOING NO SUCH THING! What they are in fact doing is creating a smoke screen to both CONFUSE GULIBLE INDIDELS and provide Jihadis cover. They are little taqqiya machines and should be exposed as such.

And certainly “radical Islamists” will be “provoked” by the truth, but as we all know they are really “self starters” who need no “encouragement” to murder, rape and pillage.

“The protesters had a LOT of bikers, with heavy-duty Harley Davidsons. A lot of them were really fun to see and talk to close up”

These events are a “natural” for the American Biker and we should be notifying all “Motorcycle Clubs” in a three hundred mile radius.

Contrary to some preconceived opinions, the vast majority of us are law-abiding, freedom loving patriots who will use almost any excuse to ride in the furtherance of Liberty.

And If I should perchance meet you at a demonstration, feel free to come and look and “talk close up.” I would only request that if you would like to rev the throttle on my bike, please ask first. You see, only a very tiny minority of us are violent “radical extremists.”

“A couple of them became almost rowdy at one point, but they had a great respect for the police, and immediately cleared a driveway as soon as the police requested.”

Another common misconception is that Bikers don’t get along with the police.

Many of us are ex cop or ex military. An excellent idea for a future demonstration would be to have an ex military Biker Club (Viet Nam Vets, Rough Riders, Patriot Guard, etc.) CONTACT THE POLICE AHEAD OF TIME and establish a “com link” with them. Bikers provide excellent “eyes and ears” and would be able to quickly report any violent activity to the police on the part of the Jihadis.

The cops are on OUR SIDE, remember?

“One very obnoxious feature of the counter-protesters is that they had a very loud loudspeaker set up, which pretty much drowned out conversations in the area of the counter-protest.”

Note to self and others, get a “very loud loudspeaker set up” for future demonstrations. Also, cops have “very loud loudspeakers” on their motorcycles – I gotta check into that.

“This was met by bikers riding up and down with their barely-muffled engines revving at full blast.”

    Uuh, it’s what we do.

The “Patriot Guard,” which I belong to, got its start by drowning out Westborough Church “believers” who were disrupting military funerals. Yeah, I know it’s juvenile, but it’s part of that “completely fail to give a shit” Biker mentality – and damn it’s fun!

“And yes, some Muslim in America might begin to feel less welcome than they did.”

    I spose they will…

“…demonstrations like this one, which may very well prove to be crucial to maintaining the country as we know it.”

    I couldn’t agree more.

Hope there is another one within my range in the future and I hope to meet some of you there.

      Hey Davegraybeard,

Great to hear from you. Just as important, your post was inspiring and informative.

The Westborough Church capitalized on the grief of the families of fallen heroes to publicize their own idiosyncrasies. I’m 100% certain you were a great comfort to the families by showing them that someone was standing up for them, paying the Westborough idiots back in their own coin.

You pointed out a weakness in my presentation. I used a paragraph to attempt to give the rationale of the counter-demonstrators. They actually did claim that we should support them because they were the ones trying to show Muslims that their religion was actually peaceful. As you say, the best way to deal with the future is to accurately report the past. I think any regular JihadWatch reader understands that this whole rationale is hogwash, for multiple reasons.

Can you imagine Christians saying “If you atheists don’t support our peaceful interpretation of Christianity and if you criticize our peaceful view of Jesus, we cannot be responsible for the violent interpretation of Christianity that may result.”

I have one small observation. I would not be so disrespectful of you as to touch your property without asking you. And I have great respect for you.

I don’t know who called, or actually organized the protest: whether it was Pamela Geller, the Texas Grassroots organization or Garland Grassroots organization, or perhaps even the motorcycle clubs, who had a large presence at the demonstration. But, I think your ideas are excellent. I think I’ll forward a copy of the blog, and this thread, to the leaders of the Texas Grassroots group. I’m sure they’ll find your suggestions helpful.

And, indeed, I’d love to meet you at some demonstration.

Appreciate all the summaries of the event. Although I was there from just after 3PM – 6PM, it never dawned on me to make even “mental notes” of things. Ditto on the neccesity of earplugs next time!

Thanks for noting all the Muslims’ signs. I especially got a kick out of the #AllLivesMatter…remarking at the time, “Yeah, except for all the folks killed by jihadists.”

Find Robert’s rally-speech, taken from my (very first phone-) video, here: http://youtu.be/F-Fh3fq23Sw

So fired-up for the next such event. Thanks to all who came. (A biker group with a large presence that day – and as yet un-noted here – was The Infidels, a veterans’ organization.)
