Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

White House: Taliban not a terrorist group

Jan 29, 2015 4:41 am By Robert Spencer

You may recall, even though it was so very long ago, that before 9/11, the Taliban blew up the Buddhas of Bamiyan and was known to be involved in training jihad terrorists for mass murder plots outside Afghanistan. There were al-Qaeda training camps in Taliban-controlled areas of Afghanistan. The Taliban has blown up girls’ schools — and shot Malala Yousafzai for daring to advocate that girls be educated. What this odd statement from Eric Schultz signifies is that the Obama Administration is trying to prepare Americans for the return of the Taliban to power — which will show up the absolute futility of all the loss of American blood and treasure in Afghanistan over the last twelve years.

“Taliban not a terrorist group, White House deputy press secretary says,” by Jessica Chasmar, The Washington Times, January 28, 2015:

White House deputy press secretary Eric Schultz argued during Wednesday’s briefing that the United States can negotiate prisoner swaps with Taliban members, because the Taliban is not considered a terrorist group.

ABC News reporter John Karl asked the press briefing rookie whether the Jordanian government’s trade with the Islamic State was similar to the United States trading five Taliban members for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

“As you know, this was highly discussed at the time and prisoner swaps are a traditional end-of-conflict interaction that happens,” Mr. Schultz said. “As the war in Afghanistan wound down, we felt like it was the appropriate thing to do. The president’s bedrock commitment as commander in chief is to leave no man or woman behind. That’s the principle he was operating under.”

“Isn’t that what the Jordanians are operating under?” the ABC reporter argued. “The Taliban are still conducting terror attacks, so you can’t really say the war has ended as far as they’re concerned.”

Mr. Schultz explained: “I would also point out that the Taliban is an armed insurgency. [Islamic State] is a terrorist group. So we don’t make concessions to terrorist groups.”

“You don’t think the Taliban’s a terrorist group?” Mr. Karl interjected.

“I don’t think that the Taliban — the Taliban is an armed insurgency,” Mr. Schultz corrected. “This was the winding down of the war in Afghanistan, and that’s why this arrangement was dealt.”

Christ on a bike! I’ve heard it all now, this has to be the most cowardly example of the brinkmanship of the political elite. They are all at it, Obama, Cameron, Merkel….. Where are the Lincolns, the Churchills, the Napoleons????

It makes me sick to my stomach,

No wonder Putin knows he can get away with poisoning a British subject in the streets of London using a substance that could have killed and injured hundreds… This is the example of the culture in the leadership of our once, proud nations. Thank god Hitler or Stalin aren’t still around, these fools can’t even cope with an uppity minority. 150 years ago, Britain would have merely crushed the jihadis and anyone who got in the way under the Imperial boot. It might have made the 3 Rd page. Now we are crippled with hand wringing gutlessness

That’s one of the basic flaws with democracy as it is implemented today. The main qualification of the people who run for office is that they volunteered themselves. So we get the ones who are so arrogant they don’t care about anyone except themselves, the ones who are just in it for the money, and the ones who are just in it for the power. None of them will think and plan further than their own life times, or at best that of their kids.

A better system would be to choose people randomly from the population, the way juries are chosen, each one serving a short term, maybe a year, before being replaced. Unfortunately, the party political system will prevent this from ever happening.

“A better system would be to choose people randomly from the population”

And an even better idea would be to go with the original constitution, which balanced the vote of all the citizens (House of Representatives) against the votes and influence of the production class and political leaders (Senate). The whole government was checks and balances.

As there were no limits on political contributions, a real leader could aspire to office by getting support from a few deep pockets and focus on issues rather than campaign funding.

The focus was on being a republic, with multiple blocs of power and influence, each balancing each other. The ultimate, but not total, power went to the people: revenue bills had to originate in the House of Representatives.

I’m just saying we have had a political system of great depth and flexibility. We don’t have to go to obviously-unworkable systems like random selection of political officials.

        AArd—-,

A ‘qualification” that you left off- they have to be good looking/sexy.

In this day and age, someone who looked like 9 we are led to believe) Lincoln looked like could never make it —be elected–to any major office. Possibly a city or county -where he/she would know the people (or at least a number of them); and his wife-Mary Todd Lincoln- who had health and (possible) mental issues- no way would the people elect him.

As an Englishman I’d go with the Churchill option but veer more towards Cromwell, Athelstan, Offa, Alfred, Penda (probably Welsh) and Henry V (I’ll leave that up to you). Great leaders seem to inspire their people, without having to resort to leftie jack boots and marching about in shorts.

Very true. That reminds me of the Kitchener’s war against Mahdis in Omdurman and the two Anglo-Afghan Wars, fought & won by General Pollock & Lord Roberts respectively, before that.
Today we need Pollock, Roberts, Kitchener & Churchill NOT Obama, Cameron, Hollande or Merkel to win war against islamists.
If you read history today’s so called our leaders (Lords in reality) looks like buffoons, some cheap circus curiosity, compared to those great generals.

Again, the US Government has decided that punishing the Taliban for 9/11 just isn’t worth the effort. After all, back when Clinton blasted a Qaida/Taliban camp in retaliation for the 1993 bombing, it ended up with the missile costing more than the structures it destroyed.

We must try to impeach Obama at all costs. Congress and the People can drive the initiative.

Secondly we can have the People involved in Referendums that call for sharia to be banned in each State.

Thirdly, we can initiate Court actions to decide whether or not Islam is a religion under our Constitution and our laws.

Fourthly, those who have been damaged by Obama’s inaction can initiate class actions that will force the media to write some reports.

Finally, we can use our imagination to ensure that future generations will remember us for our courage . . . that they too, will have forefathers they can be proud of.

There is a little bit more to this story than most people know.

In 1999 the US gorvernment was trying to make a deal with the Taliban for the Tapi-pipeline(and in the meantime it was proven that Bin Laden was on the payroll of fbi/cia in the 80ies )
At that time the taliban was officially called”a source of stability in central asia”.
The taliban refused to sign the contract and according to pakistani negotiator Niaz Naik US officials told the taliban:”acceppt our carpet of gold or we will give you a carpet of bombs”

Since the USA invaded Afghanistan the Opium production rose 20x and US soldiers were even ordered to protect the poppy fields and all main military bases were built one the supposed tapi pipeline way.(the usa have a long history of state sponsored drug smuggling since Air America in Vietnam and the Iran/Contra affair.
Karsai suspended talks with the USA after he discovered that the usa and taliban held secret peace negotiations in qatar and saudi arabia in 2012.

The modus operandi now is nothing unusual for the usa as the ends always justify the means for them.
They did this with saddam(at first best friend of usa supported with wmd gas weapons than classified as monster)
they did this with noriega(who helped the usa to remove the nicaragua government )
now the same with the taliban, organised and sponsored and built up in the 70’s by charles wilson, kissinger & friends to fight the sovjets.
Turned into enemy since 1999 and now removing them from the terror-list because they did not succeed to controle afghanistan but still want to built the tapi pipeline and controle the huge untouched natural ressources as they know,if they don’t do it China will.

”These sorts of preposterous lies are breathtaking in their lack of respect to ordinary people. Does this guy think we haven’t been paying attention?”

Given the fact that Americans have **twice** voted this traitorous de facto mohammedan into your highest office, I would say ‘you haven’t been paying attention’ is throwing roses at it.

However, my own compatriots have been equally guilty: camoron, merkel, et al …

The thing to remember is, that politicians, as a set, have zero respect for the people who vote them into office. They believe, ( not without reason) that the electorate, as a whole, is composed of fools and idiots, who will vote for *any* party that tells them what they want to hear. Consequently, we get the ‘government’ that we deserve.

Of course, what is *outside* the scenario I described above, is the few, the all too few, people with any intelligence at all, who *never* voted for these traitorous, venal, greedy scumbags. It is we who are the victims.

Fantastic, the word used here not in the slang sense of good but going to the word root of fantasy.

Giving the Global Jihad the name of a military tactic opened endless possibilities for avoidance. I thinks what Schultz meant here is that the Taliban isn’t active in the mass murder business in Dar Al-Harb, as is ISIS, Al Qaeda and so many other Moslem activist organizations.

Language is a wonderful fiber that can be tied into endless types of knots to deal with something in a happy way… until the rope wraps around your throat. In that sense, Schultz was choking. But happily. I’m sure he snickered derisively when he went backstage.

This is the reason why we’ll need “three years” to defeat ISIS: to give them TIME. Time to have their own banks, currency, institutions, etc.

No one has mentioned just how close we are to mob rule. Until we raise the voting age to 26 and have an English literacy exam with a Civics section attached, we’ll have a new group of knucle-draggers at each election cycle.

Our Founders are rolling their eyes at what we’ve done to the astonishing (then) thing they fought and died creating.

In a very real sense, we should be ashamed at what we permit to function inside the District of Columbia today. We’ve brought this on ourselves.

I agree with the literacy and civics.

PICTURE ID TO VOTE WOULD ALSO HELP, as would THE DEAD NOT VOTING. But JFK (in my lifetime) initiated that in the 1960 election that he stole from Mr. Nixon, and the democraps have been using it ever since.

For the Taliban have proven by their own violent ,brutal and murderous actions ,time and time again, that they are indeed terrorists. To be even more specific, Islamic terrorists. For example the Taliban are so cruel and vicious that they had poisoned the wells of girls schools in Afghanistan. Furthermore, the Taliban are so hate and malice filled that they have thrown acid into the faces of girls and women. Taliban have stoned females to death and have cut off the index finger off of male citizens of Afghanistan who had only voted in an election The list of the many heinous and hideous affront that the Taliban had committed could go on but this should be enough to expose the Taliban thugs to be what they really are a terrorist group and jihad terrorist group at that.
