So what are they going to do now? What if they decide to wage jihad in France, since they’re being prevented from waging it in the Islamic State?
“France bans six from travel to join ISIS,” Al Arabiya, February 23, 2015:
French authorities confiscated the passports of six individuals to prevent them from travelling to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the interior minister said on Monday.
Bernard Cazeneuve said 40 more people would lose their right to travel outside France because they planned to join ISIS.
“There are currently six administrative bans on leaving the country that have already been signed, and around 40 that are being prepared,” Cazeneuve told reporters, Agence France-Press (AFP) reported.
AFP quoted a security source as saying that the six were “imminently” about to travel to Syria.
Their passports and identity cards have been confiscated for six months, after which the order can be renewed.
“There will be more,” said Prime Minister Manuel Valls when asked about the case on Monday.
It was the first time that France would take such measure.
The right to remove passports was introduced as part of a raft of new counter-terrorism laws in November aimed at curbing the number of French citizens leaving to join jihadist groups in the Middle East.
Some 1,400 people living in France have either joined the jihadist cause in Syria and Iraq or are planning to do so, Valls said last month.
“Around 40 cases are currently under investigation” in addition to the six, the source said.

Why on God’s green earth don’t they let them GO with free one way tickets!?
Who wants these fk-ups trolling the towns and cities with our families. This is just another thing I can add to the WTF-list because nothing is making sense.
Maybe if they are going to use them as intel to halt a major attack; the only reason I can come up with.

I agree – let them go & w/ luck Jordan or Egypt will drop a bomb on them. If they don’t get ‘martyred’ and try to return to ANY European country, they should be barred. Permanently.

Just plain stupidity!!!!

Yes, but that will be considered Islamophobic. The CBC will be outraged. After the Ottawa terror, we were told by the media that it was mental illness, not Jihad.
Richard Courtemanche says
Exactly and don’t let them back in. Beside collecting French gov benefits and a permanent security threat, they’ve become totally useless to the French community’s interests.
Jae M says
Exactly right! Let them go and DON’T let the RETURN! The easiest way to get rid of these madmen is to kick them out of the country they hate and away from the innocent citizens they want to murder.
LeeZee says
Agree with all of you. This is utter stupidity. Well, France’s Vichy Government welcomed Hitler and his genocidal monsters with open arms into the heart of Paris. Do the French have any backbone, or sense of morality/humanity? It seems only the stupidity gene has flourished.

This doesn’t make any sense to me. They ID cards and passports are revoked, but only for six months. Why only 6 months? They will attempt to travel again in six months, or they will cause trouble in France.
Please. Someone explain why it doesn’t make sense to just let them go? Let them go and in doing so, take away their rights as a french citizen.

Western policy is actually more insane than just this. I keep reading about jihadis arrested for leaving but being allowed to roam about when they get back.
It makes sense if our governments would like to kill off their native populations one jihad attack at a time.
mortimer says
With Europe’s open borders, these jihadists cannot be prevented from going.
Europe needs to establish a Devil’s Island where these terrorists can be quarantined for life and never hurt anyone.

mortimer,
I agree with you that the jihadists should be locked away, rather than allowing them to go.
Would it be moral, or consistent with a civilized state, to allow known murderers with open intentions to murder, to simply travel to another country to commit their crimes? Why would we advocate France, or other civilized countries, to encourage jihadists to go over to Syria and murder Christians, Yazidis, Kurds, and others there?
It gets the jihadists out of our hair, but what about the people they kill?
We need to make it a major felony, sooner rather than later, for a person to take actions to join a murder group out of the country. Once it can be proven they have taken actions to leave, and support ISIS, they can legally be locked away. Perhaps the French could rent some space at Guantanamo.

It’s a horrible situation. I don’t know of any simple or easy solutions. But this I do know. The government of a country is responsible for taking care of its own citizens, first. Yes, if they let these savages go, they will murder innocent people in other countries. But there’s also a chance they may be killed out there.
By forcing them to stay in France, they are guaranteeing that innocent French citizens will die. (Especially since apparently no one has guns over there but the jihadists!)
It seems we just have awful options. We just have to pick the least awful one.
Mo says
How does this make ANY sense?! If they can’t wage jihad outside of France, they’ll just do it INSIDE France! Let ’em go and then revoke their passports and their citizenship so they can never come back!
Duh! I swear, what are these leaders (and I use the term lightly) thinking?!

Precisely. If (when?) these pious muslims go jihadi on French soil, the blood of the victims is in the hands of the authorities.
And if the authorities know that a given person is going to join the islamic state, an entity that for all practical purposes has declared war on France, why not put them on trial for treason?

I couldn’t agree more.

Better to let them leave and prevent them coming bak in!
Don McKellar says
HEY, FRENCH GOVERNMENT RETARDS, LET US ALL SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU SO THAT MAYBE YOU’LL GET IT:
*** Banning muslims from travel to join the Islamic State *** STUPID. Then you’ve just got murderous jihadi who are the most devout of moslems trapped in France and looking to get back at France through violence! They believe you’re in the way of their religion. According to the Islamic texts, that means you must die. Really.
*** Letting muslims travel to join the Islamic State, then stripping of them of their citizenship so they can’t return *** GENIUS. Your problem with these raving lunatics is over. Millions of dollars saved on law enforcement, property damage, and French lives.
WHY CAN’T THIS SINK IN? ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID???
Jeff says
Execute them.
Vatandas says
I absolutely do not understand the logic of keeping them in the country. Let them go, cancel their passport and don’t let them back in.
