Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Jordanian columnist: The Islamic State “did not invent a new Islam”

Feb 11, 2015 9:12 pm By Robert Spencer

IslamicStateshahadahThe author of this article, Zaid Nabulsi, several years ago wrote a piece entitled, “Zionism is an Incurable Disease of the Mind.” So he is not exactly a sober, thoughtful reformer. And in this piece he is sure that the negative aspects of Islam don’t come from Muhammad, but he can’t seem to decide whether they originated in hadiths he considers inauthentic or in the theology of the Wahhabis. How the Wahhabis, a movement for reform and return to the original teaching of the Qur’an and Muhammad, got Islam so wrong he does not explain.

All that said, however, this piece is singular in its acknowledgment that there is indeed a problem within Islamic tradition, and that Muslims need to address that problem. That is much farther than the overwhelming majority of Muslim and non-Muslim analysts are willing to go.

“‘We have a problem,’” by Zaid Nabulsi, The Jordan Times, February 10, 2015 (thanks to Benedict):

Enough is enough. It is time to speak out.

“Islam is innocent” is an incomplete sentence. Introspection is needed, for, if we shy away from reality, the alternative will be more images like those we witnessed last Tuesday night, when brave Lt. Muath Al Kasasbeh was burnt to death in a cage.

The inconvenient truth that is overlooked or willfully ignored by apologists for the indefensible is the fact that Wahabism, the cult of mediaeval austerity founded by Ibn Abdul Wahab (1703-1792), has over the last half century been exported to every mosque and school throughout the Muslim world until it completely enveloped mainstream Sunni Islamic teachings.

Wahabism has entirely replaced, and become, Sunni Islam; the two cannot be told apart anymore.

Some Wahabist teachings, which have permeated the air we breathe in the Muslim world, are simply irreconcilable with decent human values, especially the ones that declare that every non-Wahabist is a disposable body whose bloodletting is unproblematic.

So enough of this burial of our heads in the sand. It has become tiresome to keep hearing the unproductive cliché that Islam is innocent after each atrocity committed by devout fanatics who did nothing except execute the exact letter of their textbooks, which order them to slaughter the infidels.

The escapism that mainstream Islam has nothing to do with those atrocities does not hold water anymore because Wahabism and Islam have become indistinguishable.

To understand the crisis of Muslims today, one has to remember that Wahabism exists in several textbooks containing the alleged sayings of the Prophet Mohammad, or books of “Hadith”, revered by so many.

What we must confront is the undeniable fact that it is from many stories found in these books that the unprecedented cruelty of groups such as the so-called Islamic State and Jabhat Al Nusra emanates.

The problem today has nothing to do with the original spirit of Prophet Mohammad’s message. Nor has it anything to do with the tumultuous history of Muslims over 14 centuries, parts of which were no doubt glorious and enlightened.

The catastrophe today is with the visible manifestation of Islam in the modern world, as demonstrated by the prevalent beliefs and practices of many people who call themselves Muslims.

This negative image of Muslims is not all just smoke and no fire. This is what those 120 Islamic scholars who sent a letter to Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi last year could not fathom.

IS did not invent a new Islam. On the contrary, its followers are strict adherents of the same textbooks quoted in that long letter (bizarrely addressed to “Dr Ibrahim Awwad Al Badri”, Baghdadi’s real name, bestowing intellectual respectability upon this mass murderer, as if one were writing a letter to the mayor of Copenhagen).

In fact, the scholars’ letter was a misguided attempt to disinfect Wahabism, to cleanse it from itself, by claiming that IS simply misinterpreted texts that are otherwise compatible with human decency.

In that sense, the letter squabbled over the semantics of the alleged instructions by the Prophet to spread Islam by the sword, but it did not dare renounce the authenticity of those same sayings.

Instead, the scholars argued that IS has simply taken those instructions out of context, and so they addressed the devotees of Ibn Taymiyah (the mentor of Wahabism, 1263-1328) with counterarguments based on those same problematic Ibn Taymiyah texts that IS employed to justify its barbarity.

The truth of the matter is that, faced with the IS and Nusra atrocities, Muslims cannot afford to give Wahabism a facelift.

If we truly want to defend Islam, we need to perform a much more invasive surgery.

Take the Muslim Brotherhood as an example of the prevalence of the Wahabist teachings among Muslims today.

The Brotherhood is the virtual womb that incubated all the current jihadist groups, including Al Qaeda itself (Al Zawahiri hailed from the Egyptian MB offshoot that murdered president Anwar Sadat).

Yet, when Abu Musab Al Zarqawi was killed in 2006, the three most senior leaders of the MB in Jordan brazenly visited the condolence house in Zarqa and announced to the media that Zarqawi was a martyr in the eyes of God, despite Zarqawi having blown up three hotels in Amman the previous year, killing scores of Jordanians going about their lives or celebrating a peaceful wedding.

We need not go too far back.

More recently, former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, of the MB, committed much worse deeds than his Jordanian counterparts while he was briefly in office, using his pardon prerogatives to release the murderers who carried out the 1997 Luxor massacre of 62 elderly European tourists.

Not only that, Morsi even appointed the leader of that group as a governor of Luxor itself.

The MB in Jordan, despite their token condemnation of the immolation of Kasasbeh, still refuse to describe him as a martyr.

Some may counter that it is poverty and economics, not Wahabist doctrine, that explain why so many Muslims are supportive of such murderous trends. This simply defies the facts.

The orgy of decapitations in Syria over the last four years was promoted by very rich Sunni clerics such as Yusuf Al Qaradawi and Mohammad Al Uraifi, aided by the countless satellite stations openly calling for the murder of Alawites and Shiites, and financed by billions from extremely wealthy but hateful Muslims.

So, enough with the denials. It is time to raise the alarm. We have a problem!

It is not a coincidence that for over a decade we, Muslims, dominated the world record in mindless televised massacres.

There is obviously a propensity towards eliminating “the other”, imbedded deep within Wahabist ideology.

It is not only foolish to deny this fact, it is also dangerous, for we would be covering the cancerous tumour with a bandage.

What we cannot deny is that many of the Wahabist textbooks are the same operating manuals that Islamist butchers use to justify their savagery.

For example, very few people know that while Muath was being set on fire in that macabre video, the voiceover was a recitation of an Ibn Taymiyah fatwa deeming the incineration of unbelievers a legitimate act of jihad.

Ibn Taymiyah is not some obscure scholar on the fringe of Sunni Islam. In the Sunni world, he is universally venerated with the title “Sheikh of Islam”, elevating him to an almost infallible clerical status.

If we really want to defend Islam as a religion of mercy, if we really want to be believed when we proclaim the innocence of this religion, we need to do more than just repeat this meaningless mantra about us having nothing to do with IS.

We have to muster the courage to identify the specific texts that actually defame Islam, denounce them and permanently cleanse Islamic tradition of them.

    ISIS is Muhammadized.
Should we expect anything less from true followers of Muhammad?

Yet another example of a Muslim in the Middle East being more honest and therefore useful than nearly anyone in our political class, media, educational institutions, or entertainment establishment.

“a Muslim in the Middle East being more honest and therefore useful ”

Well, normally speaking, anyone criticizing defects of Islam would be ipso facto useful. But our sprawling and complex situation throughout the West of this ongoing Conversation about Islam is, unfortunately, neither normal nor proceeding rationally. In the context of the complicatedly addled Conversation we must suffer through (We few, we happy few, we band of brothers [and sisters] who have done the excruciatingly unremarkable — yet strangely enough, woefully uncommon — feat of waking up to see what’s plain as the nose on our face, that there’s a giant Elephant in the Room and that the Emperor not only Has No Clothes but is Buck Naked with his Wee Willy in full view), such seeming candor of Muslims like this Jordanian journalist would tend to serve the purpose not of waking the remaining majority of our pleasantly decent and relatively intelligent fellow Westerners from their ridiculous myopia about the problem of Islam, but rather of reinforcing their already stubbornly persisting and dearly held Meme of the Minority of Extremists. For, what this Muslim Jordanian becomes when he is processed by the typical PC MC Westerner is not a source of the profound criticism of Islam that his ostensibly schizophrenic diagnosis logically leads to, on the road to its destructive condemnation (which, in his schizophrenia, he cannot permit, since he must hold dearly to his Islam and his precious Muhammad, the source of the disease), but rather yet another nudge in their minds reinforcing their belief that most Muslims are good people we can “work with”, and that, you see, there is a wonderful “diversity” in the Muslim world, and they too, you see, are concerned about this problem and want to “work with us” blah blah fucking blah.

This Muslim Jordanian, in the end, fucntions as a “Better Cop” This new Muslim Cop is “Better” precisely because the standard issue Good Cop is perceived by a growing number of Muslim stealth jihadists to be showing signs of not working as well in deceiving the Infidel, for there seem to be growing signs of the Infidel no longer accepting the rather simplistic deception of the Good Cop — for the simple fact that Muslims are spiralling so ridiculously out of control in their normative lust for belligerent supremacism that even the profoundly clueless Western Mainstream is beginning to show signs (not enough and not nearly fast enough, but that’s another story) of a bit of skepticism. Beyond that important function of the Better Cop, he is also needed to infiltrate the Counter-Jihad (Zuhdi Jasser is a prime example, suave and slick enough he apparently fools even Frank Gaffney).

To be generous, this Muslim Jordanian could be simply profoundly schizophrenic and could be sincerely wrestling with his Islam in that torturous odyssey those few who have finally freed themselves in apostasy must go on as they disentangle their psyche from the insidiously demonic intestines of Mohammedanism that has possessed them all their lives. But we cannot afford to give any Muslim the benefit of the doubt (and the Counter-Jihad Softies be damned).

In a way this honesty is good. Though it falls on deaf ears which refuse to hear anything politically incorrect and at odds with the bunker made of lies about Islam that our mainstream media and most political “leaders” hide behind.

In a way this honesty is bad. It seems to me that in a way by acknowledging the truth of ISIS as very much springing directly from Islam, and the call to reform Islam because of ISIS will actually not fall on deaf ears, nor accomplish anything like a reformation. Instead, the siren call of the caliphate will be heard by even more of the most devout and pious of moslems, and those who can become so. Zaid Nabulsi can’t begin to explain “what went wrong” — which translates that he has it wrong in the minds of those who are absolutely certain of themselves: the upcoming ISIS recruits who grow in number each day.

It is ironic that the voices of both jihad and counterjihad are united against mainstream taqiyya and fairytale wishful thinking in media, politics and academia. We don’t like this alliance, but what Qutb, al Qaida, the IS and Boko Harem all say is completely true: Islam comands the faithful to kill and dominate all non-Moslems. The place we depart is that counterjihadists explain Islam in the first place as completely insane.

Yes, it’s all the fault of those wicked wahabists, who have perverted the true message of the prophet mohammed. I seem to have heard all this before. Oh, and those bad hadiths, as well.

What *is* the ‘true message’ then ?

It’s not in the koran, because that’s been perverted by wahabbists ( 🙂 ) and it’s apparently not in the hadith, ditto, so it must be in Nabulsi’s head …

By the way, has anyone else noticed that the only victims he’s sobbing over, are his own fellow mohammedans ?

Not quite true that he is only concerned with a fellow muslim being murdered. He also berates Morsi for freeing the “murderers of 62 elderly european tourists at Luxor”. Unless you are saying that he is using taquiyya or kitman then I think you might acknowledge that he is showing disgust at both the original act and the pardoning of the murderers. He certainly has a down on the MB and wahhabiism.

Usually, part of the point of a “presidential pardon” is that it is irreversible. The people have been pardoned for that crime. Naturally, they could be tried and convicted for some other crime or crimes, but in the matter of _that_ specific crime they are permanently pardoned.

That fact won’t matter for voeg. Some people here have stated that they hope Sisi to usher in a new era in Egypt where nationality trumps religion (or something along those lines) and voeg, desperate to look relevant, has chided them for allegedly falling for Sisi’s taqqyia (or something along those lines). Thus, he won’t miss a chance to criticize Sisi, regardless whether said criticism is valid or not.

Zaid Nabulsi: “every non-Wahabist is a disposable body whose bloodletting is unproblematic”

So…has Zaid Nabulsi himself become a ‘non-Wahhabist’ now? In that case, the ‘Wahhabist’ warriors of ISIS consider him to have left Islam!

He is now a target for the jihadists?

    • voegelinian says

      Feb 12, 2015 at 2:21 pm

Jordan itself has been a target of the jihadists for years. That’s the disease of Islam; it foments profoundly internecine hatred, conflict, dissension, and violence. The great poet Dante was astute in realizing this as the heart of Islam, and figured God’s punishment of Muhammad (and of Ali, the founder of Shia Islam) in Hell to be specifically for their crime of being “Sowers of Scandal and Discord” (seminator di scandalo e di scisma , in the Inferno, Canto XXVIII, verse 35). Muhammad’s punishment in Dante’s Hell was to be sentenced for eternity to ripping his own chest apart, rending himself from his neck down to his butthole, as symbolic of the discord he brought into Mankind. This discord so essential to Islam’s nature, naturally, results in rampant and endemic internecine conflict and violence — Muslim-on-Muslim hatred and killing — which PC MC idiots in the West perceive as reflecting “diversity” in the Muslim world, offering the deceptive mirage in their desperately anxious need to find Decent Muslims Whom We Can Work With, through the naive conclusion that any given Muslims who are on the receiving end of this internecine violence must be the Good Guys since they are ostensibly “victims” (never mind that these supposedly Good Muslims share the same hateful fanaticism of the Muslims who are attacking them).

Re: Dante’s Inferno, I will use Mandelbaum’s translation (with a couple of minor adjustments):

No barrel, even though it’s lost a hoop or end-piece, ever gapes as the one whom I saw ripped right from his chin to where we fart:

His bowels hung between his legs, one saw his vitals and the miserable sack that makes of what we swallow excrement.

While I was fixated on watching him, he looked at me, and with his hands he spread his split chest open and said:

“See how I rend myself open: See now how maimed Mohammed is! And he who walks and weeps before me is Ali, whose face is opened wide from chin to forelock. And all the others here whom you can see were, when alive, the sowers of dissension and scandal, and for this they now are cleaved.”

If he does denounce and cleanse Ibn Taymiyyah, he will be targeted for murder by Ibn Taymiyyah’s disciples…ISIS!

Been nice to know you, Zaid! Or maybe he will simply run to a non-Islamic country with freedom of expression where he can invent his own ‘new-improved’ Islam.

THE JEWISH RABBI WHO BECAME THE FIRST CALIPH

    JEWISHENCYCLOPEDIA
The unedited full-text of the 1906 Jewish Encyclopedia
    SCHWARZ, JOSEPH:
Palestinian geographer; born at Flosz, Bavaria, Oct. 22, 1804; died at Jerusalem
Feb. 5, 1865. When he was seventeen years old he graduated as teacher
from the Königliches Schullehrerseminar of Colberg, after which he joined his brother Israel at the University of Würzburg, where for five years he devoted himself to the history and geography of the Holy Land, and published a map of Palestine (1829; republished at Vienna, 1831, and Triest, 1832). It was his ardent desire, however, to study in Palestine itself the physical history and geography of the Holy Land, where his knowledge of Talmudic sources and early Jewish writers would be of more service. Accordingly he decided to settle in Jerusalem, whither he went in 1833. Schwarz then began a series of journeys and explorations in various parts of Palestine, to which he devoted about fifteen years.
The results of his investigations and researches into the history, geography, geology, fauna, and flora of that country have placed him in the front rank of Palestinian explorers and geographers. HE IS THE GREATEST JEWISH AUTHORITY ON PALESTINIAN MATTERS SINCE ESTORI FARHI (1282-1357), the author of “Kaftor wa-Feraḥ.”

    HISTORY OF PALESTINE
    614-1096 C.E.
From the Accession of the Mahomedans to that of the Europeans.

    By Rabbi Joseph Schwarz, 1850

Rabbi Shallum, son of the then Resh Gelutha, in Babel, aka Abu Bachr al Chaliva al Zadik, Abu Bakr, the first Caliph, was in fact: [A JEWISH RABBI] Rabbi Shallum, son of the then Resh Gelutha, in Babel, perceiving this dreadful predicament, went to Mahomed, and offering him his submission, friendship, and services, endeavoured to enter with him into a friendly compact. Mahomed accepted his proposition with pleasure, conceived a great affection for him, and took his daughter, a handsome young girl (A 6 YEAR OLD CHILD), for wife; he made him also a general in his army, and gave him the name of Abu Bachr al Chaliva al Zadik, literally:

The father of the maiden, the descendant of the righteous; this means, that of all his wives, who were either widows or divorced women, this one was the only one who had never been married before, and then she was the granddaughter of the celebrated chief of the captivity; therefore, the descendant of the righteous. This occurrence induced Mahomed to give up his terrible intention to destroy the Jews in his country, and thus did Rabbi Shallum save his people.

THE SHIA SECT SAY ABU BAKR & UMAR USED THEIR 2 DAUGHTERS, AISHA & HAFSA, TO POISON MUHAMMAD!

It is clear from their writings, that these two Caliph HIJACKED Islam and created thousands of Hadiths.
It was Abu Bakr who authorized the First Quran.

So we have a JEWISH rabbi becoming the first Caliph and authorizing the First Quran!

This would would account for the 2 Qurans – the MECCAN Quran and the MEDIAN Quran.
