Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Kerry: US “on the road” to defeating the Islamic State

Feb 8, 2015 7:43 pm By Robert Spencer

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry reacts during the chairman's debate at the 51st Munich Security Conference in MunichThe US is also “on the road” to making its rivers flow with sparkling wine, and replacing all municipal buses with pink unicorns that will carry commuters on their backs.

“Kerry says US ‘on the road’ to defeating ISIS, amid claims terror group is spreading,” FoxNews.com, February 8, 2015:

Secretary of State John Kerry and a top White House official claimed Sunday that the U.S. strategy to defeat the Islamic State is working – despite warnings from other corners of the Obama administration that the terror network is in fact spreading.

Following the purported deaths last week of two ISIS hostages and concerns about the U.S. needing to do more, Kerry told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the U.S.-led coalition was “on the road” to defeating the Islamic extremist group, also known as ISIS or ISIL, in Iraq and Syria.

He argued that coalition forces have recaptured 22 percent of the populated areas that ISIS once held in the region “without launching what we would call a major offensive.”

The claim came just days after Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, delivered a grim assessment of the group’s evolution in testimony to the House Armed Services Committee. He described how the group was surfacing in North Africa.

“With affiliates in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, the group is beginning to assemble a growing international footprint that includes ungoverned and under governed areas,” Stewart testified.

Defense secretary nominee Ashton Carter, who had his confirmation hearing Wednesday, also told Congress this past week he is aware of reports that ISIS may try to expand into Afghanistan….

Bobm – Did anyone notice that after the gruesome murder of its airman Jordon decided to do its own thing targeting places where ISIS troops are gathered. (A pity they don’t have napalm to fry this Muslim rubbish!) UAE, that withdrew it’s aircraft from the coalition because of the lack or inadequacy of rescue arrangements for downed pilots, has sent it planes to operate out of Jordan because it felt that the coalition is empowering Iran too much. Doesn’t this sound just like something Obama would? The coalition will never be as effective as it could be as long as anus horribilis Obama is determining matters with advice from the Muslim Brotherhood.

Interesting. The expansion and the gaining of a foothold in other territories. Could they be growing larger or are they looking for a place to retreat? It will be interesting to see how they are received by the local jihadis. Many of the local organizations of those territories have pledged support to ISIS, but I wonder how many of them will bow to the will of ISIS leadership in their own sphere of influence. Especially if the reason they are there is from failure in the caliphate.

“It will be interesting to see how they are received by the local jihadis.”

This is why their religion is so important. Islam brings order among Jihadis and leaderhip is only a more minor decision compared with losing ones head. (Just see the growing number of Mosques in Ferguson and other inner USA cities where there were once churches. They too would only have a minor decision to make.) Each Middle Eastern Muslim city would be allowed to decide if they like or dislike a certain leader which is a far different choice than is given to Christians and other religious groups.

Obama’s hardest core inner city supporters are heavily Islamic. His Christian inner city supporters are losing ground to Islam and he strenuously defends only Islamic interests. Every move he makes in the Middle East is fine tuned to this growing hard core USA Democrat constituency and is much closer to violent Jihadis than any other form of Islam, if there is one. Note that he only reluctantly defends Christian cities in the Middle East, if at all. Egypt is a good example of Obama’s non-support for more peaceful Islam, where he immediately withdrew funds after the violent Muslim Brotherhood was extricated by a so called “secular” Islamic regime. At every turn in the Middle East, Obama has helped violent Jihadism and actively worked against “secular Islamic peace”, if there is such a thing.

Imam obama wants to eliminate Christians whom he considers oppressors of the Down trodden non white masses. He sees islam as their ticket to overthrow the current US society. Islam will be the army he believes will topple the US as it stands today. The imam in the white house is an outright racist and a traitor. He will not retreat when or if he he leaves the white house. He has a goal and a machine in place.

The goal is to fundamentally change America, as promised in his campaign speeches. He has two years left. After that he looses power along with his presidential authority. The only real power he will have left is his speaking abilities, with which he will use to sway fools.
Two years. We can already see him ramping up his efforts.

I’m just finally getting around to reading Obama’s book “Dreams From My Father”, and I’m rather stunned at how heavily Muslims run through it. Of course, I knew about this father and step-father, but both his New York roommates and a number of school friends and the main people he dealt with as a “community organizer” are all Muslim—far more than one would expect from a guy from Hawai’i.

Moreover, he is quite condescending when talking about Christians—even black Christians. Not so Muslims. He even admires the foul Louis Farrakhan on most matters. One of the few things he singles out for criticism—I kid you not—is the Nation of Islam’s poorly-thought-out strategy for marketing toothpaste to the faithful.

        Very disturbing stuff.

Slightly OT but the Guardian (of all places) has a very interesting piece about the inside of ISIS training camps.
    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/25/inside-isis-training-camps

It makes no bones about the fact that religion is the driving force behind recruitment and retention.

In reference to ISIS throwing gays off tall buildings:
“The purpose is not to increase the volume of violence but also to raise eyebrows and trigger questions about such practices, which Isis is more capable of answering than mainstream clerics, who prefer to conceal teachings that propound such punishments. Many Isis members were eager to emphasise they were impressed by such obscure teachings, and were drawn to the group by the way Isis presents Islam with absolute lucidity. Mothanna Abdulsattar, for example, spoke about the group’s “intellectualism and the way it spreads religion and fights injustice”.”

    • MKG says

      Feb 8, 2015 at 11:21 pm

      Interesting comment Mr. Wehtje.

I noticed people have join jihad for any number of reasons, and it is curious how many people are drawn due to the simplicity of sharia law as opposed to the complexities of secular law, as stated by muslims themselves. Despite the brutality of punishments, people know what to expect, and most can comply. In the arena of information operations and psychological warfare this aspect of anti-jihad is most challenging.

      • gravenimage says

        Feb 9, 2015 at 10:44 pm

With all respect, MKG, I don’t think the attraction of Shari’ah for hard-core Muslims is *despite* its brutality, but *because of it*.

Also, the idea that ordinary people are more apt to run afoul of Western law due to its complexity simply isn’t bourn out by the results—remember, the Islamic State has been lining the streets of Mosul with severed heads.

It is that the most pious Muslims want to see savage Shari’ah imposed not just on Infidels but also on their “heretical” and “insufficiently Islamic” coreligonists.

Shari’ah law is also rife with false accusations—it is just that the most pious Muslims want to be the ones making those accusations.

Besides, wouldn’t civilized people be for more sanguine about the prospect of getting a ticket or a fine or even a court date rather than the prospect of being dragged to the public square and facing flogging, amputation, beheading, or stoning to death?

The attraction of barbaric Shari’ah is about savagery and ideological “purity” more than anything else.

        • MKG says

          Feb 10, 2015 at 1:05 am

Gravenimage, all of your points are very good, but remember, we are not dealing with civilized people. We are dealing with people trying to live through darkness and savagery. That is what they understand. Perhaps that is why only dictators seem to be able to keep a lid on chaos in that part of the world.

Thanks for your input. It helps broaden the picture.

        • gravenimage says

          Feb 11, 2015 at 9:23 pm

          Thanks, MKG.

And remember, Muslims also believe that Shari’ah is the unchanging law of Allah—the major reason for its perennial attraction.

I was surprised to see this in the Guardian too but I noticed that the author kept at one remove from the epicentre of Islam, Mohammed and his companions. I think this was in line with his last sentence:

“New recruits such as Ghannam and his cousins graduate armed with theological arguments, military training and a conviction that fellow Muslims are at least partly complicit in the suppression of true Islam.”

If he had concluded that ISIS really have found true Islam rather than just a conviction that they had I think it would not have appeared in the Graun.

      For instance he writes this:

“throwing people from high buildings did not even inspire criticism of sharia in the Middle East because many did not realise it was a sharia penalty in the first place”

I’m sure he’s wrong there. Death for homosexuality is sharia but the means is not (correct me if I’m wrong). I tracked that down to an obscure hadith about a discussion between three of the more influential companions (presumably when Abu Bakr was caliph):

“…The Sahaabah [companions of Mohammed] were unanimously agreed on the execution of homosexuals, but they differed as to how they were to be executed. Some of them were of the view that they should be burned with fire, which was the view of ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) and also of Abu Bakr (may Allaah be pleased with him), as we shall see below. And some of them thought that they should be thrown down from a high place then have stones thrown at them. This was the view of Ibn ‘Abbaas [the cousin of Mohammed] (may Allaah be pleased with him).” Ahmad (2915)

Likewise he cites the brutality of Khaled bin al-Walid but he could equally have cited the brutality of Mohammed himself.

Personally I think ISIS are closer to the original Islam than the author admits. Details here:

Sure Mr Kerry, keep “defeating” and funding IS(IS). Let’s just say that behind all of this mind numbing PMD (Politically Modified Discourse), the military/industrial complex strikes again 😉

The America of old was anti-empire, but it has slowly been allowed to degrade into the empire it has become today. Washington’s infamous “WOT” (War on Terror) will do nothing to counter violent (i.e. activist) Islam. It will only reinforce and extend the power of the welfare/warfare state and government curtailment of our natural right to freedom. So for what it’s worth, I’d like to conclude that while I wholeheartedly oppose Islamic doctrine, I also strongly oppose the US bred/led War on Terror.

    Kind regs from Amsterdam,
