Pakistan to continue ban on “blasphemous” YouTube indefinitely

Feb 8, 2015 5:52 pm By Robert Spencer

YouTubePakistanA brittle and insecure culture, desperately afraid that dissent will expose its illogic and hypocrisy, and thereby bring it down. Thus it must act to suppress forcibly all dissenting speech; it considers it a matter of self-protection. This goes not just for Pakistan and Islam, but for the American Left.

“Ban on ‘blasphemous’ YouTube to continue,” Pakistan Today, February 9, 2015:

Pakistan will continue to ban YouTube indefinitely, more than two years after it blocked the video-sharing website for hosting a movie deemed insulting to Islam, an official said on Sunday.

Pakistan Supreme Court ordered the government to block YouTube in September 2012 after the ‘Innocence of Muslims’ was uploaded on it, sparking violent protests across the Islamic world.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has since been trying to block the movie, in a bid to restore access to the website, but a minister on Friday said there had been no headway in these efforts.

“We fear there will be protests if YouTube is unblocked without removing the blasphemous movie,” a telecommunication official said on Sunday.

The ban has drawn criticism from free speech activists and student unions, who called for immediate restoration to help researchers.

Pakistani authorities have in the past tried to block online content and social networking websites due to blasphemy, a crime punishable by death in the Islamic republic.

In November 2011, the telecommunications authority tried to ban nearly 1,700 “obscene” words from text messages.

In 2010, Pakistan shut down Facebook for nearly two weeks over its hosting of allegedly blasphemous pages. It continues to restrict thousands of online links.

Have you tried telling people the film was removed? How many people in Pakistan would be able to go to YT and see for themselves is wasn’t?

You want to know the real reason why Youtube is banned. Go look a Syria-tube. They have video from smart phone showing just how stupid the fighter of ISIS are. The are big brave holy warriors when they are dealing with unarmed people but put them up against people who can fight back and they are cowards. There in one I call Allah Akbar mortar the idiot has a 60mm mortar the video shows him dropping shell each time yelling Allah Akbar, on the 4th shot he blows himself to pieces, another some jihadist is bad mouthing Assad he is taking time making lunch with an open flame the ends up explaining to Allah why open flame and explosives are not a good thing, The holy fighter shooting a RPG doesn’t want to get shot so he carefully stays in cover to take his shot and hits the wall right in front of him and blows his head off. The freedom fight trying to take out a Syrian T-72 tank and instead get splattered against a wall in junks. To hear the brave jihadist crying liking little children when one of their brethren get the top of his head taken off my a Kurdish sniper. It is hilarious.

Who cares? Why would anyone miss doing business in Pakistan anyways?

Let’s stick to our values. We won’t miss them.

This can happen in America! Lindsey Graham, Senator is talking about legislation that would restrict ones ability to express their opinions about Islam. A slippery slope! Say (NO) to Politicians who want to legislate speech in America about Islam or any other Religion or Cult. Opinion Islam is a Cult promoting death, destruction, intimidation, racism and sexism.

Have they declared hadith blasphemy and banned hadith search engines?

here’s a thought. if there is something I don’t want to see, no matter how ‘offensive’ it might be, I don’t watch it. therefore removing the potential problem before it exists. how simple is that?
