I remember reading/hearing about some passage from the Koran or hadith that spoke of melting stomachs. I searched briefly for it, but couldn’t find it. As outrageous as burning someone alive is, that sounds even more appalling.
The Jordanian response has been very encouraging. So has the response which demands a rethink in Islamic discourse. I’m pessimistic about whether or not it will have much of a demonstrable effect, but it’s still nice to see. I’d hope it’s becoming clear that something of an Islamic reformation is critical for the entire world.
Lastly, I would like to say that I am of course disgusted with the theatre IS made of the pilot’s death. I was stunned with the bravery and dignity of this pilot, who was only a young adult.
