When was the last time Finland’s national radio aired readings of the complete Bible? Or even just the New Testament? Or any other religious text? Finland’s state radio channel is promoting Islam in this way, but what if Finnish listeners are alarmed by “slay them wherever you find them” (2:191, 4:89, 9:5) or the other violent passages? I suppose that was why the imam was there to comment: to make sure Finns didn’t think the book really meant what it said.

HELSINKI (AP) – Finland’s state radio channel YLE is broadcasting readings of the entire Quran in Finnish to improve knowledge of Muslim culture in the Nordic country.
The 60 half-hour readings are accompanied by comments from the translator of the Islamic holy book and Imam Anas Hajjar of Finland’s Islamic Society.
