What could possibly go wrong? “Iran Unveils Surface to Surface Missile With 2500 KM Range; Weapon is Direct Threat to US Vessels in Persian Gulf,” by David Daoud, Algemeiner, March 8, 2015:
The Defense Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brigadier General Hussein Dahqan, revealed on Sunday Iran’s new surface-to-surface cruise missile, the “Soumar.”
Dahqan also pointed to the Defense Ministry’s new strategy of developing and producing smart weapons for Iran’s armed forces, and introducing a new generation of advanced weapons. He said that the long-range “Soumar” system was developed and produced by the Defense Ministry’s aerospace experts, according to Hezbollah affiliated Al-Manar.
The “Soumar” has a range of 2500km, posing a serious threat to any vessels sailing in the Persian Gulf, particularly US naval forces, as well as an array of countries which are distant from Iran. Its design is based on a Soviet missile, similar to one stolen from Ukraine 12 years ago which made its way to Iran from the Chinese.
Dahqan added that producing and manufacturing this missile, which uses complex and advanced technology, was a large step forward in advancing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s deterrent capabilities.
According to Tal Inbar, the head of the Space Research Institute at the Fisher Strategic Studies Aerospace Center in Israel, the missile can be launched from planes, or equipped with a nuclear warhead, Israel’s Channel 2 reported. However, the original Ukrainian missiles on which the “Soumar” is based were not equipped with nuclear warheads, and could be launched from ships as well as submarines.
Dahqan also noted the delivery of large quantities of “Qadr” and “Qiyam” long-range ballistic missiles to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps.
These missiles, said Dahqan, are capable of destroying a wide array of targets in a range of complicated circumstances, given their high tactical capabilities, ability to remain over the field of battle for prolonged periods of time, and radar evasion. Regarding the “Soumar” Dahqan noted that it was more accurate and longer range because of the improvements in this missile over previous models in propulsion and control.
He also claimed that during the upcoming Persian year, which begins this year on March 21, the armed forces will be receiving a much higher quality of rockets, particularly when it comes to their range, accuracy and destructive capabilities. This will be an ongoing and permanent endeavor in the years to come, he added….

This is obviously built for peaceful power generating purposes (like their nuclear program). They intend to fill the missiles with batteries, so they can be blasted off into poor, barely inhabited areas that need access to a couple of AAs for their electric toothbrushes.
roger says
Yes, now that Osama binbama and friends have declared the Iranians to be “moderates”,
I would say that the electric generation thingy is right, also the missiles may be used to deliver fresh vegetables to the poor.

They show us only what they want us to see.

Everyone wants the world to be equal, so here we go. Somehow the “everyone deserves everything for existing” philosophy has spilled over from bad parenting to world politics and of course, nuclear weapons.

Thank you Jimmy Carter for preventing the Shah from allowing this regime to get power and thank you Obama for appeasing it.
Gamal says
Thank you China also for selling the missile technology to the radical Muslims.

That type of surface to surface cruise missile is exactly what the U.S. Navy’s Phlanax CIWS (Close In Weapon System) gatling gun was designed to take out, radar controlled and firing 20 mm rounds at a rate of 4500 a minute (75 per second). Bring ’em on Iran.

saturation attack will eventually bring down any vessel. There is a limit as to how many incoming missiles point-defense weapons can take out at any given time, even in overlapped AA fields. The real solution is to knock out all SSM launchers, vessels and vehicles before they can launch their missiles.
The 2500 km range is a suspect. Not verified.
Ernie says
Iran is very actively working on it’s own demise .
Spot On says
Correct. They call it Armageddon. They can’t wait for that day. The problem is they want everyone to be included in their party.
Ernie says
Dear Spot On , you can read between the lines , yes , this is exactly wat I meant ! Wars , rumours of war etc . The Great Day of the Lord is coming near , no doubt !
Spot On says
Yes, Ernie, I agree. My reason for making the distinction on your comment was that others still incorrectly think that we need not concern ourselves about Iran because Iran knows that our subs would completely take them out and therefore Iran would never initiate a nuclear attack. They think that the Mutual Assured Destruction policy will keep Iran from any such attack. As you know, the fallacy here is that Iran believes they must initiate Armageddon themselves. As Christians, we know that Armageddon will happen somehow sometime (and the signs are all there now) but it is not in our nature to want to know how or when or to bring it on ourselves in any way. Please have a great day.

Don’t know if there is anything to it or not but saw somewhere where they were predicting that Russia will lead a muslim army to fight in and around Israel…sound plausible Nodt sure where I saw that….

Soon, the entire Islamic world will have ICBM’s with nuclear capability. It’s inevitable in the near future.
umbra says
… when uk and/or france become islamic ….
mortimer says
The problem is not the missiles, but the jihad doctrine.
Without the jihad doctrine, the world will be 90% safer.
Bezelel says
mortimer, That’s what Bibi has been saying and I agree. iran has been focusing on weapons to use against ships for some time. The 200mph torpedo and the flotilla of speed boats to name a few. saddam had his scud missiles and the worlds largest cannon trained on Israel of course. Now the saudis are making deals with the paki’s for nukes when iran gets them. Mean time obola/kerry say the world is safer than ever.
BC says
The Iranian leaders think the Western leaders are stupid and gullible and I completely agree with them!
umbra says
Those who are prepared to deal with iranian nuke program are not in any effective position or authority to deal with it. Those who are in the position to do so are not prepared to deal with this (proliferation and weaponisation) problem. The middle east appears to be going nuclear and it may experience short patches of localised scorching hot spells in the future.
Dave J says
The problem with a Theological State acquiring nuclear weapons and long range missiles is that even if their country ended up a smoking radioactive ruin they would see it as a great victory as long as Israel and Washington DC were also wiped out.
They’d be cuddlin’ with the virgins and gloating bigtime.

Missiles cannot save Islam from itself.
Islam is the contents of a toilet bowl and will remain that way until Muslims finally decide to pull the plug and flush Muhammad’s poop down the drain.

The Iranians cannot fathom what the Aegis Combat System can do when put on automatic defense mode. All ships in the area defended by ships with the Aegis system are digitally linked and their defensive systems are controlled by the Aegis combat control computers. It takes data from every synchronized sensor, sea born, in the air, and in space, that and using it own 6 million phased array radar that tracks the entire area around the battle group many times a second. When in automatic defense mode it can defend against massive attacks from under the sea to low earth orbit. Except in simulation the Aegis Combat System has never been put into automatic combat mode, it has not been necessary.
