Nigeria lesbian fleeing Sharia death sentence asks UK judge to save her life

Mar 4, 2015 5:19 am By Robert Spencer

Royal Courts of InjusticeGiven the fact that she is appealing to the tender mercies of Appeasement Britannia, Aderonke Apata should be prepared to be sent back to certain death in Nigeria so as to ensure that British authorities do not appear “Islamophobic.”

“Nigeria lesbian fleeing sharia court death sentence asks UK judge to save her life,” Gay Star News, March 3, 2015:

A judge has adjourned court following an intense hearing of the highly publicized case of Aderonke Apata, a Nigerian lesbian fighting for asylum in the UK.

The 47-year-old gay rights advocate and award-winner came to Britain from Nigeria in 2004 seeking asylum on religious grounds.

Coming from a Christian family, she married a Muslim man in what she says was a sham arrangement to cover up her long-term relationship with a woman.

Apata claims her husband’s family turned against her when they suspected she was gay, and took her to a sharia court, where she was sentenced to death for adultery. Her brother and three-year-old son, she says, were killed by mobs.

She ran away, lived on the streets in Manchester, and now her case has come to the Royal Courts of Justice for a final decision. Will she be given asylum, or will she be sent back to Nigeria where she could face certain death?

Protestors from around the world gathered in London to rally at the hearing today (3 March). Just one petition calling for Apata’s safety has over 230,000 signatures.

‘’In many places around Africa, LGBT people are being persecuted for their sexual orientation, suffering corrective rape, their lives being threatened,’ Rose Bear, originally from Angola and South Africa, told Gay Star News.

‘I’m here today to support of LGBT from Africa who are seeking asylum to escape threats to their lives. It’s right that countries who can afford should give them asylum so that they can continue their lives peacefully.’

In the recent weeks, stories have emerged from UK detention centers such as Yarl’s Wood wherein violence, sexual harassment and bullying occur against LGBTI asylum seekers.

Charlotte Kristensen, from Denmark, said: ‘It’s beyond terrifying. Just to think that these people have gone through so much, being so close to being safe. To come onto English soil and become terrorised, tortured and abused by a country that’s an asylum. It’s a shame, I am actually ashamed to be English sometimes.’

Prosecutors have accused Apaka of the following:

She looked ‘feminine’ in Africa, with longer hair, and her ‘stereotyped lesbian appearance was adopted after the initial decline of asylum in the UK’.
Her gay rights activism started after she was first refused grant of asylum.
The people who signed a petition were ‘duped’ and has given ‘layers and layers of lies and inconsistencies’.
Apata had male relationships and cannot contact last three lesbian relationships but formed false sexual ones in detainment.
A sexual identity cannot ‘change’ as much as race cannot – thus her identity as a heterosexual on her first asylum application must be taken into account.
She is a ‘clever woman’ who has used the media to gain support and pressure the Home Office.
If she went back to Nigeria she wouldn’t have the stress of this court case and wouldn’t have the mental health issues to deal with. She would not have attempted suicide if not put through this stress.
Her LGBT activism was a last ditch attempt to remain in the UK.

The judge questioned many of the points made, arguing sexuality can be fluid and that some people ‘discover’ themselves. He also mentioned that even if she is not a lesbian, her public support and name recognition will certainly put her at risk in Nigeria.

Apata’s attorney then put the following to the court:

This is a fresh case, and that she has done everything she can to prove that she is indeed a lesbian, including showing that she is ready to debase herself to provide ‘evidence’ of a sexual nature.
She is at risk of imprisonment with her involvement of LGBT activism in Nigeria.
Her suicide attempt whilst in prison was genuine, and was only in prison for being a figurehead in a detainee center, protesting her rights.
Under immigration laws, conventional rights and asylum laws, she should be granted asylum as she is at risk when back in Nigeria….

Christian family – have a sham marriage to hide the “shame”.
Muslim family – religious court says to kill her and her family.

Which one is the religion of peace again?

Indeed. (As is why she became involved in homosexuality.) Whatever the case, good luck in dhimmi Britain!

Mirren 10, you know as well as I do, that as soon as these female ” asylum ” seekers show up in the UK, they are groomed by the Human Rights brigade, in what to say to asylum and immigration panels.
If sent back, they are all going to be gang raped, brutalised, tortured and subjected to every horror imaginable by their home country authorities.
They are hardly going to say they are economic migrants looking for a better life in the land of the free–that is free housing, healthcare and benefits

    ALLOW HER TO STAY .

    • jayell says

      Mar 4, 2015 at 3:29 pm

No, don’t allow her stay. As Dr. Quack here has already said, she’s playing the system. Is there any evidence for anything she’s claimed? If she’s such a ‘clever woman’ wouldn’t she have had the sense to avoid the ‘lies and inconsistencies’ as picked up by the prosecutor? And anyone knows that playing the ‘gay’ card in the UK these days is a sure fire way of getting the ‘sympathy vote’ – which explains the sudden change of sexual orientation after her first asylum attempt went wrong (somebody obviously gave her some ‘good advice’?). And in any case, the UK is NOT the first safe country after leaving Nigeria, so why is she trying it on here anyway? Answer – she wants all the free handouts!!! And now what’s all this? – “Charlotte Kristensen, from Denmark, said: ‘It’s beyond terrifying…….To come onto English soil and become terrorised, tortured and abused by a country that’s an asylum. It’s a shame, I am actually ashamed to be English sometimes.’” Sorry? ‘Terrorised?’ ‘Tortured?’ OK, so at Yarl’s Wood detention centre there’s apparently been some ‘violence, sexual harassment and bullying’, but according UK news reports it all seems to be comparatively low level stuff, usually people not being very ‘nice’, and apparently not all from the staff either. And you can get THAT sort of thing in any institution anyway, even in a school. So how does THAT become ‘terror’ and ‘torture’, Ms Kristensen? A little bit of exaggeration perhaps? And in any case why exactly is the UK supposed to be ‘an asylum’ (although it frankly feels like a LUNATIC asylum more and more every day)? I thought the UK was first and foremost supposed to be simply the home of genuine UK citizens, not a general dumping ground for all and sundry from all around the world, who happen to find themselves in a bit of bother or/and want to freeload on the unsolicited charity of the UK taxpayer. But that terrible sort of sentiment might make poor Ms. Kristensen “ashamed to be English” (and she’s from DENMARK???). Well, I have a sentiment for Ms Kristensen, but it would probably get me banned from this website.

As the prosecution case makes clear, it seems pretty likely that this woman is just trying it on. In any case she would be safe in Southern Nigeria which is Christian.

    • Mirren10 says

      Mar 4, 2015 at 8:46 am

I agree she’s probably trying it on. As I said earlier, if she comes from a **Christian** family, why would she marry a mohammedan ?

”The 47-year-old gay rights advocate and award-winner came to Britain from Nigeria in 2004 seeking asylum on religious grounds”

What award did she win, and who awarded it, and for what ? She’s contradicting herself as well; first she says she’ll be persecuted because of her sexuality, then she says she sought asylum on **religious** grounds, so which is it ? Fishier and fishier.

I’ll bet she’s collecting loads of benefits, as well.

Actually, ECAW, homosexuality is illegal in Southern Nigeria, also. They don’t execute people for it, but I believe the punishment is something like 14 years in jug.

Oh, is it? That’s unfortunate but we can’t take in the world’s homosexual population can we – not that you’re saying we should. The world is full of some bugger persecuting some other bugger for something or other. I hear that British schoolchildren, deprived of the more traditional pretexts for despisng their calssmates, now pick on kids with ginger hair. Not a very nice species are we?

I agree with your Mirren10 and ECSW,

Immigration ought to be for the benefit of the asylum country, not necessarily for the immigrant.

Particularly in Muslim countries, there are always victims: the Sunni majority persecute the Shi’ite Muslim minority; in Shi’ite majority countries, the Sunni Muslims are persecuted. Both sects persecute Sufis, and all Muslims persecute Ahmaddiya Muslims. The Alewite Muslims of Syria will be exterminated by the ISIS Sunni Muslims as soon as our imbecile Republicans have their way and Syrian President Assad is deposed.

So, if Western countries allowed in all persecuted Muslims, there would be about 3 Muslims left outside of the US, Britain, and Europe.

The Sunni immigrants would be paying zakat (charity) to support Sunni terrorist groups; the Shi’ite immigrants would be paying zakat to Shi’ite terror groups, and the Ahmadiyyas would be protesting any attempt to label the terror groups as “Islamic”.

Anyway, you get the idea. We need to get away from the claim that a country owes immigrant status to someone just because they happen to need (or want) to get away.

I agree that this particular refugee sounds extremely dicey. It is not the responsibility of England to ensure that every gay, or every minority in the world is not persecuted. England has the responsibility to take care of itself, and set the example of what a free country, willing to protect itself, can accomplish for its own citizens. Whether other countries follow suit is up to them.

this puts our government in a no-win situation. ummm, what would I do… ? if she stays, then we appear anti-sharia, hence anti-Islam as we are protecting her, but if she is made to return, she dies. then we look like we don’t care. a tricky one. well no, it’s not tricky at all is it. this is not our problem. this shit is going on all the time but we never hear of it. it’s only because she has funds to travel here that we know anything about it. but it changes nothing. other messed up countries are not our responsibility. we are not the world police. sorry, but that’s the way I see it.

Stuff like this ( lesbian asking for asylum from Nigerian sharia) is dicey. Once you maintain that a country has the obligation to give asylum simply because the refugee is in need, you open the floodgates to Muslims, who are always killing each other. I think that countries ought to have no obligation to take in refugees if it does not serve the interest of the country.

Furthermore, this particular person seems questionable. It seems to me she is a economic refugee, very capable of gaming the system. The following is from the document you cited:

The Secretary of State contends that the Claimant has for 10 years “played the system” by repeated and different applications, dishonestly made and that “She has …made false asylum claims. She has pursued an appeal claiming that she was in a subsisting relationship with an EEA national when she was not. She overstayed, worked illegally and studied illegally” as the FTT concluded at para 114. Paragraph 9 of Mr Bird’s Skeleton Argument sums up his case thus:
“The Defendant does not hold back from asserting that this Claimant is a person of proven dishonesty (2 convictions) who is not afraid to speak out and protest, who entered the UK unlawfully in 2004 with a false passport and has been successfully avoiding removal ever since, deploying a variety of reasons (including her heterosexual family life) in support of her cause.

“…Once you maintain that a country has the obligation to give asylum simply because the refugee is in need, you open the floodgates to Muslims, who are always killing each other….” Muslims killing each other or not, why should the UK be held responsible for the safety/health of all and sundry when we’re not remotely responsible for their problems? It wouldn’t be so bad if they showed some gratitude for any help they received and behaved themselves, but they’re usually not even capable of that, treat their presence and privileges here as some kind of ‘right’ and often inflict their problems on the local authorities and populations.
