Jihad Watch

Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

U.S. special forces evacuate Yemen

Mar 24, 2015 10:42 pm By Robert Spencer

Houthis“This counterterrorism campaign will be waged through a steady, relentless effort to take out ISIL wherever they exist, using our air power and our support for partner forces on the ground. This strategy of taking out terrorists who threaten us, while supporting partners on the front lines, is one that we have successfully pursued in Yemen and Somalia for years. And it is consistent with the approach I outlined earlier this year: to use force against anyone who threatens America’s core interests, but to mobilize partners wherever possible to address broader challenges to international order.” — Barack Obama, September 10, 2014

“U.S., British forces out in Yemen, raising terror fears,” CNN, March 23, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

The United States and Great Britain have pulled their last forces out of strife-torn Yemen, raising fears that the failed state will become even more of a breeding ground for terror groups plaguing the Middle East and the West.

Over the weekend, the United States evacuated the last of its special operations forces — including Navy SEALs and Army Delta Force troops — amid the deteriorating security situation in the country, the U.S. State Department said.

On Monday, a security source in the region familiar with the situation in Yemen told CNN’s Nic Robertson that British special forces had also left Yemen in the last few days. The British Ministry of Defence declined to comment.
Armed men inspect damage after an explosion at Al Badr mosque in Sanaa, Yemen, on Friday, March 20. Deadly explosions in Yemen’s capital rocked two mosques serving a minority Muslim group that recently conquered the city. The mosques serve members of the Zaidi sect of Shiite Islam, which is followed by the Houthi rebels who recently took control of the capital.

The U.S. move came a day after terrorists bombed two mosques in the capital, Sanaa, on Friday, killing at least 137 and wounding 357 others, according to Yemen’s state-run Saba news agency. The terror group ISIS, based in Syria, claimed responsibility for the attack.
U.N. warns Yemen is at ‘edge of civil war’

U.N. warns Yemen is at ‘edge of civil war’ 01:47

It also followed months of fighting between government forces and Houthi rebels, who on Sunday seized the international airport in Taiz. The rebels now control both the airport and Sanaa.

Yemen has been a key U.S. ally in the fight against al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, allowing U.S. drones and special operations forces to stalk terrorists in the country. Now, that arrangement is in tatters, along with any semblance of peace in the Middle Eastern nation.

While State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke said Saturday that the United States would continue to “take action to disrupt continuing, imminent threats to the United States and our citizens,” the move left some wondering what role the U.S. could play with no forces on the ground. The country closed its embassy in Sanaa last month.

“I don’t think there is an active role for the U.S. other than intelligence and trying to see where the dust is going to settle,” said U.S. Sen. Angus King, a Maine Independent who serves on the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence committees.

That raises the possibility of the already unstable country becoming an even more fertile environment for terror groups to collaborate, grow and export violence, according to Robin Wright, a security and defense analyst with the Woodrow Wilson Center.

“It’s becoming much like Syria, much like Afghanistan was at the peak of its instability,” she said.
U.S. pulls military forces from Yemen

On Sunday, U.N. officials said the country appeared to be on a “rapid downward spiral.” The Security Council again deplored the violence and called for an end to the fighting and for Houthi rebels to return government facilities to the elected government of President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

But officials said recent events “seemed to be leading the country further away from a peaceful settlement and towards the edge of civil war.”

In addition to counterterrorism issues, all sorts of geopolitical influences are at work in Yemen — chief among them the regional power play between regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The Houthi rebels are Shiites with ties to Iran, who have long felt marginalized in majority Sunni Yemen. Sunni Arab countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council want to limit the influence of Iran, particularly Saudi Arabia, said CNN military analyst Lt. Col. Rick Francona.

“They believe now that Iran is in control in Beirut, in Damascus, in Baghdad and now on their southern border in Yemen,” Francona said. “So the Saudis are beginning to feel a little threatened here and are hoping the Yemen situation doesn’t spiral out of control.”

The Saudis and other Gulf Arab nations have called for every effort to be made to roll back the Houthi gains and hand full control back to Hadi’s government.

On Monday, Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi criticized regional governments over their stance on the fighting.

Al-Houthi said his group was striking back at al Qaeda and ISIS in self defense, and said he found it “very strange” that nearby governments would condemn the group for such acts while welcoming the United States, which he called “the umbrella of tyranny in the world.”
Yemen on the brink

There’s little reason to believe the Security Council’s calls for peace will have much impact. Last month the council slammed the rebels for taking over democratic institutions and holding officials under house arrest, with little effect on the fighting.

Last week, a Yemeni jet commanded by the Houthi fired missiles at a palace housing Hadi in the port city of Aden.

No one was injured, but the direct strike marked an escalation in the deadly fighting between the two sides. That same day, Yemeni military forces — some under the Houthis, others led by officers loyal to Hadi — battled in Aden, leaving at least 13 people dead in the clashes, Aden Gov. Abdul Aziz Hobtour said.

The fighting is taking a huge toll on Yemen’s people and economy, said Rafat al Akhali, the country’s former youth minister. Aside from the direct impact of fighting, people are losing jobs and businesses are closing, he said.

There’s still time, he said, to implement a political solution to the crisis.

“I don’t think we’re past the point of no return yet,” he said.

Francona was less sanguine.

“I don’t see anything stopping a major war going on,” he said.

Amazing how things have dramatically changed in Yemen in just six months… Gosh, who would have thought…

“special forces evacuate yemen” I’d like to see the US special forces really “evacuate” yemen and a bunch of those other Islamic countries. By “evacuate” I mean clean out the radicals

This is hardly shocking for the well informed on the “religion of peace” and the psyche of the followers of Islam.

The American president is spelling out the strategy in the light of impending civil war in Yemen. The US itself is to be blamed for much of the extremism in Islamic world and elsewhere.

They were/are partners with the Arab kingdoms who spend billions for spread lies that koran is pure science!!! (They kill any one who dares to disprove of any science)They (middle east nations) bribe western scientists to “confirm” the lies. Most of the Moslem population do not understand anything about the politics of Arab Kingdoms and that of US and its allies..Politics is all about being carried away emotionally by the state and the so called religion. The general public watch the global terrorism with awe and are excited that the judgement day is round the corner.

You cannot fight terrorism with war. The war has to on the foundations of devil;s lies as mentioned herein. Defeat the devil’s lies and deception through more information to the wider public. The West does not have anything to give to the world except democracy, secular state and such nonsense. The world must be shown that the West also has wonderful peace loving people who have had a great Christian tradition….

Sure we can win a war, if we keep killing them in large numbers eventually they will run out. To win this war of civilizations it will requiring killing a large number of them. It is what it is, this is simply the reality of the situation. As of now we lack the will to engage in this war, and the enemy knows it too.

I’m sorry—this is ridiculous. America and the rest of the West have indeed made enormous mistakes in dealing with Islam, but the idea that they are *the cause* of “extremism” in the Muslim world is just false. Such “extremism” is orthodox Islam, and comes from the texts and tenets of Islam, not for any American element.

Mere mention of war or crusade makes the Isalmic world whine about the “atrocities” of crusaders. I am sure those “atrocities” were committed by a section of barbarians for a couple of years may be. To compare those “atrocities” to suppression and tyranny of most Isamic kings/states would be lie and deception. The Western leaders and leftists enjoy this untruthful and unreasonable lie. The moslem population generally thinks through the heart as their central nervous system of the brain is weakened reciting and reading “beautiful” poetry of Koran. Whenever their nations or colones are attacked or even perceived to be attacked they gang up together but when they are without external threat they want to kill each other. This is how middle east man vents out his energy for the cause of devil perhaps. And what about the factories of the devil:madrassas, mosques, religious schools etc etc.? Which war takes care of them? To my knowledge none. So on the one hand you (west) want to finish off the terrorists on the other you don’t even bother to check terrorists’ factories and schools. Why not choke the terrorists before their conceptions as you are keen to appease the “moderate” moslem anyhow. Singapore has understood the psyche of moslems especially of religious class and they have good systems in place. All the propaganda and lies are curtailed/filtered at the factory outlet of “religious institutuions”. Evidently there are evil elements who work overtime to coin new word like Isamaophobia and so on beside preparing all kinds of war manuals for every terrorist & terroris organisation on the face of the earth. Even if you get a handful of terrorist and gas them it will have rippling effect on the Islamic world and therefore the world( wherever they are sizable in number). It is important to remember that Islam is a complete war machine as the Egyptian Christians. So you need to target the source after all you have laid down systems in the West where the state should not be partial to any community which is not a bad idea anyway.!

The Jews used to look down upon the Romans and now the radical Islamist looks down upon everyone else.

This is not about the “Middle East”, Raja. Middle Eastern Jews and Christians are not like this—just Muslims.

And non-Middle Eastern Muslims—from Africa, east Asia, Europe, or India—are just as savage as their Arab coreligionists.

          This is all about Islam.

I certainly am not keen to appease “moderate” Muslims—nor am I clear how destroying Mosques and Madrassas would do that.

I’m afraid Singapore, while not as “politically correct” as the West in many ways, still does its share of appeasement. Following the crackdown on the local Jemaah Islamiyah cell, then-Deputy-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong held dialogues with the leaders of the Muslim community. Details of the investigation were shared to explain that the arrests were not targeted at the Singapore Muslim community, or Islam.

And I’m not sure we want to be in the business of running Mosques and Madrassas, in any case. There is no real way to reform Islam, and I can’t see any good coming out of an attempt.

I *do* believe they should be heavily monitored by homeland security, though.

I think I found the idiot you’re referring to: French doctor Maurice Bucaille, who published a book, “The Bible, The Qur’an and Science” in 1976, which argued that the Quran contains no statements contradicting established scientific facts, which is not true of the Bible.

Bucaille appears to have been an Islamophile who went so far as to declare the Qur’an the “word of God”. It is unclear whether he actually formally converted to Islam.

Certainly, as an adult he spent most of his time in the Muslim world. He was appointed family physician to king Faisal of Saudi Arabia. Another of his patients at the time included members of the family of then President of Egypt, Anwar Sadat.

But your assumption that such “Bucailleism” is the norm in the West is quite mistaken. His book was *not* critically well received. The Daily Telegraph said that Bucaille’s “assertions have been ridiculed by scientists and sophisticated theologians”.

I wouldn’t go so far as to consider Singapore a totalitarian state—though I don’t regard it as a democracy, either. It’s rather more an authoritarian state, albeit of the generally benignant variety.

Since you have mentioned Singapore twice, and no where else, I presume you live there. Not a bad place to be.

But your assumption that Singapore does not pander to its Muslim population is incorrect. It virtually bars anyone from daring to proselytize Muslims there, lest they find this “offensive”.

The 1966 Administration of the Muslim Law act does ride herd on Muslim institutions—but it also puts Infidels in the queasy position of enabling Islam.

And in officially sanctioning the Syariah Court, Singapore actually enshrines unjust Shari’ah law. The only slight saving grace is that this is only for Muslims, and exempts some of Islamic law’s gaudier horrors.

And this control, alas, has not prevented the infiltration of Jihad groups like Jemaah Islamiyah.

Thanks Gravenimage for your detailed reply/

I would like to share some more information on the subject we have dealt with..

          You have said:

Good. I’m surprised, though, to see you sneering at secular democracy, in that case.

          —————————————————————————————————

i am not sneering at secular democracy.I am trying to understand the psyche of Islamic world viz a viz democracy and secularism through discussion or my expression . The goal is to have a clearer view/idea of Islam or Islamic view.and hopefully have a better vision to deal with the devil who has been hyper active for about 15 centuries.I believe God is in control of the world though devil is the King of the world. In this fallen world (fallen due to mankind’s rebellion against God) God is dealing with every bad people or every bad nation through natural laws (not nature) e.g., the nation that crushes others is eventually faced with the same situation from within as witnessed by Arab and Islamic nations. It is God’s business to clean the scums and He does it in a veiled manner.

Islam’s blood line or bread and butter is to latch on to others like a leach in a parasitical manner. In other words whatever you do will be viewed as being wrong or man-made and that it is not god-sent. It is a circular reference. Let me quote it for you. Koran is true because it claims itself to be true. Since it claims itself to be true it is true. It challenges anyone as to the untruthful of Koran and as it claims to be true. I can see the craftiness of Satan in this circular reference. His job from the time of Garden of Eden till today and till the end of age is and will be the same. Secularism is another scornful subject of the terrorist and hence the overwhelming majority of the people( We must be remember though that the least Koran-influenced people are the best “Islamist”) The word secularism is viewed as atheistic society which is not necessarily true In practice secularism shelters all religions, terrorists and atheists alike. As Islam is a supremacist code in the name of god it is just not compatible to any world systems. They are just too “INFERIOR” to Islam. Secularism is ideal but an allergy or anathema to Islamist. So what is the point tn harping on secularism?

It is no different with the term democracy. It is the best system man can have but again reviled by Islamist because the terrorist is constantly focused on the “ideal” Islamic state which is “god given” and he wants to believe that it is the best political system. The terrorist has been brainwashed with all kinds of lies and false statistics that his system has least crime. He is blissfully unaware that his Arab princes have a gala time in Europe and in US with all kinds of vices not worth mentioning in this forum. The Arab and Islamic nations are hell bent on painting a rosy picture of the affairs of their states just by suppressing some serious crimes of their land. These states want to keep their people in good humor and also keep all the inequality and injustice at bay.So what is the role of democracy? where does democracy stand? Nowhere period. Islam is not just a war machine but a complete lie and deception machine. They want to keep their flock happy and united. Not understanding these basic truths about Islam and Islamic Middle east some idiot/idiots in the West “discovered” the term Arab spring in recent years. This is a classic case of being in fools paradise!!!!

Therefore the best things you have to offer the world and to the terrorist is an anathema to terrorists. It is the lie machine at work.

You have said that Jihadwatch is an educative site alerting the masses about Jihad. This is essential but you are fighting against time. When you know God you can easily see the guile of the devil. Research has shown that less and less people have time for God or for bible studies.in the US. If people are not passionate about God will they be interested to understand the devil’s design patented to the terrorists? I hope the resources are channeled to the right places.

How about spreading the truth about masses or celebrities leaving Islam? This potent weapon should not be discarded. A Sri Lankan cricketer Dilshan left Islam. This news must be glorified.. I know of people who have been assaulted for leaving Islam. In devil’s own nations people are killed for leaving Islam. You in the West should empathize with these people and take up the matter with your “friendly states” who are in reality treacherous evil empires. Perhaps you can campaign on this subject. Islam must be banished by scorching the ideas and lies of Koran etc for which the internet is the best means. We are really in a blessed age of information (Daniel chapter 12) and it cannot get any better to expose the devil and his doctrine of hate, lies and deception!!!!

You cannot underestimate the role of Christian converts from Islam who make excellent missionaries for Christ and for lasting peace of the world..

So on the one hand you are plugging the gullible Westerner from falling into frying pan(One Indian prince, Sambhaji was put into a frying pan alive for not accepting Islam) you can also rescue some who will be good soldiers and not your sacrificial lamb. The world has a long way to go and you and the passionate for God can made it happen.

          ………………………………

          OK

          More:

          ………………………………

Not sure what you are saying here. Islam generally rejects democracy, certainly full democracy with guaranties of liberty for the individual. Some Muslims, though, are willing to use the artifacts of democracy like the vote in the short term to usher in Shari’ah.

          More:

Islam’s blood line or bread and butter is to latch on to others like a leach in a parasitical manner. In other words whatever you do will be viewed as being wrong or man-made and that it is not god-sent. It is a circular reference. Let me quote it for you. Koran is true because it claims itself to be true. Since it claims itself to be true it is true. It challenges anyone as to the untruthful of Koran…
          ………………………………

Yes—I am quite familiar with Islam’s circular “reasoning”

          More:

Secularism is another scornful subject of the terrorist and hence the overwhelming majority of the people( We must be remember though that the least Koran-influenced people are the best “Islamist”)
          ………………………………

“The least Koran-influenced people are the best “Islamist”—not sure what you mean here. Generally the best “Islamists”—not a term I generally use—are those *most* steeped in the texts and tenets of the Qur’an. This only stands to reason.

          More:

The word secularism is viewed as atheistic society which is not necessarily true In practice secularism shelters all religions, terrorists and atheists alike. As Islam is a supremacist code in the name of god it is just not compatible to any world systems. They are just too “INFERIOR” to Islam. Secularism is ideal but an allergy or anathema to Islamist. So what is the point tn harping on secularism?
          ………………………………

Of course pious Muslims hate secularism. I’m not sure what your complaints about it are, however.

And while secular democracies do indeed protect peaceful religious practice, it *should not* protect Jihad or any other violence done in the name of religion. Of course, these days pretty much all violence done in the name of religion is Islamic.

          More:

It is no different with the term democracy. It is the best system man can have but again reviled by Islamist because the terrorist is constantly focused on the “ideal” Islamic state which is “god given” and he wants to believe that it is the best political system.
          ………………………………

Pious Muslims hate *any* system that is not Shari’ah.

          More;

The terrorist has been brainwashed with all kinds of lies and false statistics that his system has least crime.
          ………………………………

This is only because Muslim use “crime” differently than we do. They do not regard pedophilia, rape in Jihad, sex slavery, “Honor Killing”, and murdering Infidels and many other horrors as crimes at all.

Whereas, they regard “blasphemy” and equal rights for Infidels and protection for rape victims to be “crime” that are punished under Shari’ah.

          More:

He is blissfully unaware that his Arab princes have a gala time in Europe and in US with all kinds of vices not worth mentioning in this forum.
          ………………………………

I don’t think most of them much care. If wealthy Muslims go to Dar-al-islam to debauch with Infidel women and obtain Infidel goods, this is perfectly Halal.

          More:

The Arab and Islamic nations are hell bent on painting a rosy picture of the affairs of their states just by suppressing some serious crimes of their land.
          ………………………………

Sure—some Muslim “leaders” drink and engage in other non-Muslim activities. But I imagine this has always been the case. So long as Muslims have the “freedom” to wage violent Jihad, they tend to be pretty happy. It’s the only thing that does make them happy.

          More:

These states want to keep their people in good humor and also keep all the inequality and injustice at bay.
          ………………………………

What Muslim state wants to keep inequality and injustice at bay? Not sure what you are referring to here.

          More:

So what is the role of democracy? where does democracy stand? Nowhere period. Islam is not just a war machine but a complete lie and deception machine. They want to keep their flock happy and united. Not understanding these basic truths about Islam and Islamic Middle east some idiot/idiots in the West “discovered” the term Arab spring in recent years. This is a classic case of being in fools paradise!!!!
          ………………………………

You are quite right. Many Westerners still believe that Muslims want just what civilized Infidels do, but this is not at all the case. While hopeful Infidels hoped that the “Arab Spring” was a flowering of democracy, it was mostly just intensified Islamization.

          More:

Therefore the best things you have to offer the world and to the terrorist is an anathema to terrorists. It is the lie machine at work.
          ………………………………

Well, this is true. Pious Muslims hate *everything* the free West has to offer: secular democracy, the right to peacefully practice religion, equal rights for women and minorities, freedom of speech—everything, really.

          More:

You have said that Jihadwatch is an educative site alerting the masses about Jihad. This is essential but you are fighting against time.
          ………………………………

This is quite true—and why Robert Spencer works so hard.

          More;

When you know God you can easily see the guile of the devil. Research has shown that less and less people have time for God or for bible studies.in the US. If people are not passionate about God will they be interested to understand the devil’s design patented to the terrorists? I hope the resources are channeled to the right places.
          ………………………………

This can certainly be true. At this point, many Infidels, both religious and secular, have failed to recognize the full scope of the Jihad threat. I do believe some people are starting to wake up, but the question as always is whether it will be in time.

          ………………………………

Jihad Watch has dealt with the plight of apostates from Islam in the Muslim world many times—it is an important issue. And apostates are even threatened in the West.

We should do everything we can to protect apostates, both at home and in Dar-al-Islam. And I very much agree that we should put pressure on supposed “allies” who persecute apostates. I have expressed this here many times.

          Dear “Gravenimage”

          Thanks for your reply.

Your perception that live in Singapore is incorrect. I admire that Island nation for dealing with radical Islam a little better than liberal West.My knowledge about West and Singapore might be wanting in many cases, so please bear with me. My name is real and I live in a south Asian nation that will be more than happy to turn me over to the devil’s Jihadist for a bribe. However I believe in my little contribution of writing etc as you have your own paintings. I guess your paintings will have a lasting impression of the so the prophet in a lethargic world of 21 century. The objective is to educate the world about satan’s own Jihadists and the likes. You might find my views to be Christian centered.I guess that serves the twin purpose of bringing people to Christ and to stop people from going to Satan through Jihad. I love the web site http://www.christiancourier.com.

The Jihad is a potent weapon of the devil that instills the confidence of the jihad fans that the end of ages is at hand as “predicted” by Koran. Jihad converts lots of gullible people and morons. In fact it is fashionable to convert to Islam because of all chaos and the morons are taught that Islam is very powerful( as it kills, maims and explodes all kinds of bombs and so on )This is akin to Hitler’s view that the barrel of the gun is the most powerful thing.) Both won’t be remembered for too long!!!!!

I see chilling attributes of Satan in a Jihadist and his methods.Although not all world will be converted to Islam as claimed by Jihadists etc it has the potential to subdue the world through back door (through liberal democracy etc) and enslave as many as possible.I am very jealous of the Jihadists and the war, lie and deception machines behind him/her.

I look forward to a time when a Jihadist will be ashamed to call himself a jihadist as the world will stare or question at him for his shamelessness of being a Jihadist. A few converts to Christ can bring in lots of morality and shame to jihadists. (like a son of Hamas leader who converted to Christ, hope he is not killed already) Christ and Jihadists are diametrically opposed to each other. God’s plan is the best for all men and jihad is trying hard to hijack it. Eternal vigilance will keep our freedom afloat!!!

I am a stock trader with about 4 years of practical experience. Oh boy!!! It is like doing a P.h.d on a subject !!!!!!.But I love it..

This is part of the concessions Obama is willing to give Iran along with nuclear capability so he can have a legacy thinking they will share power with him in the middle east. Good luck with that while you stand with Valerie Jarret and the Muslim. Brotherhood betraying Israel and USA.

The OhBummer’s model of success: Yemen-learn it love it live it!

I wonder what is happening in Yemen´s gas and oil industry.?
Last time I was there, a large LNG plant was being built near Aden. I expect that has all gone now.
I would be very surprised if there were any European/ USA expats left there.

It’s so easy to predict the outcome of these things, once President Obama engages. It’s shame we can’t bet real money.
