Iranian Foreign Minister “all smiles” over nuke concessions from US

Apr 1, 2015 11:31 pm By Robert Spencer

Javad-ZarifWhy wouldn’t he be “all smiles”? He’s achieved total victory. “Iranian Foreign Minister ‘All Smiles,’” by Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon, April 1, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

LAUSANNE, Switzerland—Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister, said late Wednesday that he is “all smiles” as talks with Western powers over the country’s nuclear weapons program run past a self-imposed deadline and Tehran pushes the United States to make more concessions.

When asked by a reporter whether he was feeling less optimistic following tension in the negotiating room, Zarif responded, “I am all smiles.”

Zarif also demanded that negotiators stop pressuring him and the Iranian side lest the talks stall without an agreement.

“Any agreement and pressure will not go together,” Zarif said. “They are mutually exclusive. So our friends need to decide whether they want to be with Iran based on respect or that they want to continue based on pressure. They have tested the other one. It’s high time to test this one.”

Secretary of State John Kerry will remain in town until Thursday morning in a bid to patch over remaining disagreements with Iran over what an initial political agreement will look like.

The extension in talks appeared to rile Western reporters and opened questions about just how many concessions Iran is angling to receive.

Details of that agreement remain vague and U.S. officials are discussing few details ahead of any announcement.

Meanwhile, U.S. allies such as Israel and Saudi Arabia have continued to express reservations about reported concessions the United States is making concerning the size and scope Iran’s nuclear program going forward.

These include Iran’s refusal to export its stockpiles of enriched uranium, the key component in a nuclear weapon.

President Obama on late Tuesday held a video conference with Kerry and other senior U.S. officials to discuss the ongoing talks….

True- but Paki has India next door and has never publicly stated its intention to destroy Israel.
Israel has THERMOnuclear weapons- hydrogen fusion bombs and missiles, not just ‘atom’ bombs. Its technology is 30 years ahead of Iran. USA has Israel’s back in spite of Obama’s stupidity- and he will be gone in 2 years.

Why would Russia sell nukes to iran? Doing so would weaken Russian influence (politically, strategically and economically) over iran even if iran is prepared to pay big bucks for them – iran needs Russia more than Russia needs Iran. North Korea on the other hand may be prepared to sell what ever nukes tech and material to iran for money.

Umbra, Russia has been enabling Iran’s nuclear program for decades:

        http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/Country-Profiles/Countries-G-N/Iran/

        It hasn’t been a secret.

        • umbra says

          Apr 2, 2015 at 7:27 pm

It is true that Russia has turn a blind eye to iranian nuke program just as it has with north korean, syrian, iraqi, pakistani and other former budding nuke states. Neither Russia nor any of the other major nuke powers would benefit, in any way at all, from the physical proliferation of sophisticated, compact, high yield and/or accurate fissile/fusion weapons that could have intercontinental reach. It goes without saying that these nukes can be turned against them.

Undoubtedly, Russian (along with Chinese, British, german and obama’s) passive support for iranian nuke programs is a gigantic-galactic mistake. This support is based on the premise that the iranian program is completely civil (just like what the north koreans promised – the world now knows how that turned out). The reality is, the present Russian policy for iran may very well lead to the same outcome as that in north korea, do nothing (to stop the military aspect of the program) and let them have their nukes. However, unlike the situation around the Korean Peninsula, there is a high degree of certainty that a nuclear arms race will take place in the unstable middle east once iran gains nukes (or believed to have obtained the capacity to build nukes). While the Korean Peninsula around the DMZ is a highly (perhaps the most) militarised zone, there has not been any major conflict since the end of hostilities in the early 1950’s. The middle east however has had wars and revolutions more less every decade since then.

Well, the political winds shifted against the Islamic Republic of Iran and Obama stood with them. Bravo.

Now if we just ease pressure on Russia, North Korea, and Boko Haram it’ll be respect up to our eyeballs. And we all know there’s no geopolitical currency like the tasteless, odorless, curiously ephemeral respect.

    So, what happened?

That the Sunni Muslim world (90%) would allow Shia (10%) Iran, considered heretics, to become the boss is laughable. NOT gonna happen.
THREE weapons of small yield? WHY would Iran have settled for such a small number?

There is probably some truth in this report but there is no evidence given, only speculation and innuendo.

It’s not often you see Saudi Arabia and Israel agreeing about something. The puzzling aspect to this whole saga is why is the West bending over backwards to strike any sort of deal.
Iran has consistently obstructed the IAEA over its nuclear program. That is reason enough to walk away from the table and say “we won’t be back until you cooperate, and sanctions will remain in place”. The fact is with low oil prices their economy is in trouble and the screws need to be tightened until they beg for a deal.
But the Iranians have played Kerry & co like the incompetents fools they are.

    • umbra says

      Apr 2, 2015 at 10:54 pm

There are economic interests at play for certain parts of the west to see western sanctions against Iran completely lifted. Brits and germans have potentially very lucrative contracts with iran in many sectors of industries – especially defense, energy (oil and gas exploration, production plus refining), heavy machinery, electronics/communications, even nuclear tech, reactors and systems. The brits and germans want to open a market in iran, the French not as much at present since they have gulf states. US do not need iran, but obama wants it anyway. China will do business with anyone as long as it economically beneficial. Economically, Russia appears to be the foolish one. By opening iran to the western businesses, her preferential trade with iran (China aside) will be opened to increased competition.

I doubt it, David. That *might* have been true sixty years ago, but now even though Israel or any other nuclear armed nation *could* do this, I very much doubt that any civilized country actually *will*—and surely these barbarians know this.

      • Will Doohan says

If we had a President with any cajones he would tell these savages that there is at least one Ohio class submarine with 24 Trident II’s, each with a full load of twelve warheads, on permanent patrol within striking distance of the entire country of Iran at all times; and that any nuclear attack on Israel by either them or any Muslims given nuclear weapons by them, will be considered an attack upon the U.S., requiring a full retaliatory response.

    • Alarmed Pig Farmer says

      Apr 2, 2015 at 2:07 pm

That the Persians will get the bomb seems inevitable now. As I understand it they already have the ICBM platform needed to carry it to Tel Aviv. After they nuke Israel, my prediction is that the Western powers will back down, largely out of deference to Communist China, which relies heavily on oil from Iran.

While the Twelfth Imam seems like a comic drama image, it’s one that resides in the mind of the man Prez Barack Hussein likes to refer to as the “Supreme Leader,” and his head is connected to his finger which will soon be on the nuclear trigger.

      • umbra says

        Apr 2, 2015 at 11:09 pm

China’s influence in the middle east may be overstated. She does not have the capacity to – militarily or politically – stop western military response to islamic nuke attack(s) against Israel. China’s foremost security concern is her immediate backyard. Granted that she needs lots of oil and is consuming an enormous amount being pumped out from the middle east, her energy concerns could by allayed if alternative energy solutions/sources are made available.

If vast majority of middle eastern oilfields and infrastructure became radioactive through nuke exchanges (perhaps even only between iran and gulf states), then Canada may very well be the next energy powerhouse with her supposedly vast reserves of oil (in various forms of deposits).

I have not the same views of Paul’s verses of being *gathered to meet the Lord in the air” and, although I understand you and am not trying to bring you to my way of thinking, I see the many prophecies…from Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, the Gospels and Revelation…coming together in a most significant way.

And thank you for your wishes at this most important of seasons for Christians. May you continue to have hope in Christ and His promises, and a fulfillment of Numbers 6:24-26.
