Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Maine: Lacrosse coach loses job for criticizing Islam

Apr 6, 2015 11:55 pm By Robert Spencer

Curtis_Hall,_Fryeburg_Academy,_Fryeburg_MEFreedom of speech, you say? Increasingly not, in the United States: those who dare notice jihad violence and Islamic supremacism are vilified, marginalized, and defamed. When Scott Lees was fired, was truth a criterion? Apparently not. “Facebook post on Muslims costs Fryeburg coach his job,” by Daymond Steer, Conway Daily Sun, March 24, 2015 (thanks to all who sent this in):

FRYEBURG – After four years at the helm of Fryeburg Academy’s boys lacrosse team, Scott Lees of Conway said he was forced by academy officials to resign as head coach after sharing on Facebook an open letter to President Barack Obama that was unflattering to Muslims.

The letter, written by “An American Citizen,” was about Obama’s speech given in Cairo in 2009. In that speech and in another made last month, the president said Islam has long been a part of American history.

In the first part of the letter, it wonders whether anyone has have ever seen a Muslim hospital or heard a Muslim orchestra. The writer goes on to charge that Muslims “are still the largest traffickers in human slavery,” that they were allied with Adolf Hitler in World War II and that they were either pleased with or silent on the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The writer adds that the Barbary pirates were Muslims.

“I just thought it was an interesting article,” said Lees, who added he’s a politically minded independent conservative. “I thought it was an interesting letter to President Obama and his current administration who are not paying attention to Israel and focusing on Iran.”

Lees, 48, shared the letter on his personal Facebook page on March 17. Two days later, he was handing in his resignation as Fryeburg Academy’s lacrosse coach. He said that although he was supposed to meet with Head of Schools Erin Mayo and Dean Charlie Tryder on March 19, Athletic Director Sue Thurston told him a decision to fire him had already been made.

According to Lees, a property manager who is married and has two children, said he did not want a firing to go on his record. He asked Thurston if they would consider a letter of resignation.

“I’ve never been fired in my life,” said Lees, who also coaches hockey locally. “I’ve been coaching kids since 1992.”

Mayo said the season will start on time. She said Thurston is looking for coaches and Thurston will provide updates as they become available.

“We’ve got a great team,” said Mayo.

The decision on an interim coach could be made as soon as today, Thurston said.

Regarding the letter that led to his departure as coach, Lees said a friend had emailed it to him, and he posted it to see what people would say. Lees — who has since removed it from his Facebook page — said he did not comment on the letter online and that he meant no disrespect to anyone.

Lees said the post didn’t get much response. No students “liked” the post though it was liked by four adults, one of whom commented on it. “It’s not like it went viral,” said Lees. “It’s not like everyone and their brother saw it.”

But according to Mayo Fryeburg Academy has “a number” of Muslim students as well as students of numerous other faiths.

“We prize each young person we enroll as an individual, and we prize the diversity that they bring,” said Mayo, who pointed to the school’s mission statement, which says that “the Academy believes that a strong school community provides the best conditions for learning and growth. Therefore, we strive to create a supportive school environment that promotes respect, tolerance, and cooperation, and prepares students for responsible citizenship.”

Mayo said the school’s teachers, coaches and other staff need to live up to the mission statement.

Lees said he is not a bigot. In fact, he said that two years ago he invited a former Fryeburg student from New York City named Mohammed Islam to stay at his house for nine days. At the time, Islam had a court date in the area for a minor offense.

“If I had a problem with people who are Muslim, then why would I have allowed a Muslim to stay in my home?” asked Lees.

In a phone interview, Islam, who now attends Drexel University in Pennsylvania, confirmed that his former coach had opened his home to him.

“I never saw him as a bigot,” said Islam, who played under Lees for three years.

When asked of the posting, Islam said he spoke to Lees about it. He didn’t think it should have cost Lees his coaching job. Islam said Lees seems to take issue with Obama’s handling of the Middle East.

“I don’t agree with Scott’s opinion, but that doesn’t make him a bigot,” said Islam….

So if you are not self-employed or on welfare it’s unacceptable to voice an opinion that isn’t milk toast? What freedom.

And what did Lees post that’s even scantly as invective as in what’s contained in parts of the Koran? But schools have no problem with Islam.

When Mohammad Islam thinks you take Islam too seriously, you take Islam too seriously.

Exactly. And Lees was simply being factual and truthful. Can’t even be self-employed for long, or you will be attacked by LGBT groups or reporters on a crusade against Christians.

It sounds like the Fryeburg Academy does not favor anyone knowing and discussing history. Nothing the coach said was historically wrong. In fact if more people knew the history of Islam we would not be in the sour state we find ourselves in. They may think they are protecting their muslim students. In fact their actions do the opposite. The unbelievable ignorance shown by educators knows no limit.

They couldn’t just have him remove the open letter that was e mailed to him that he shared, and post an apology if he offend anyone for sharing it. NO. They felt the need to make sure that nobody could EVER accuse them of…..(GASP!)…..ISLAMOPHOBIA!

There will perhaps be a day when this sort of P.C. censorship loving behavior will come and revisit them in ways that they do not foresee.
They have been trained to be too arrogant and self deluded to even think that such a thing could ever happen.
Unfortunately, if and when the rest of us are telling them “We told you so!” That satisfaction won’t be doing any of us any good.

What are the chances this man would have been forced to resign if he had made critical comments about Christianity? Per Animal Farm, some religions are more equal than others nowadays.

What makes it all the worse is no major religion deserves to be criticized more than Islam. Not even a close call here. More like a blowout actually.

i imagine things like this are getting common place in this country. A few months ago I was asked to remove my hat. It was a hat with infidel on the back and an American flag with Arabic around the flag that basically said “Burn this one mother f***er”.

The jerk that demanded that I remove my hat said that it offends muslims I asked him if he read Arabic, he said “No”. I then asked how he knew that my hat was offensive? He said it was because I was wearing it and it had to be.

Well to make a long short I told the guy that if he wanted it off that he would have to take it off. He made the best decision and walked off. I been hearing more of these type of stories in my town. It is a small town in virtually the middle of nowhere. There must be some type of brainwashing going on. This is getting to the point of foolishness. Why would anyone defend these barbaric bastards?

I believe Mr. Lees may have standing in a federal court as his civil rights may have been violated. If that’s the case, and he is successful, there may be a multiplier on the damages he collects, and his attorney fees would be paid by the defendant. He should contact attorneys who specialize in these matters for advice.

When one of the most liberal country’s in Europe pulls the plug on Islam, the world is beginning to see the light… Wow.

Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands attended a concert in the capital, The Hague.

The Conductor, just happens to be Muslim, proceeds to give the Queen a lecture on the “beauty” of Islam. The entire orchestra got up and walked out, refusing to be associated with someone lecturing their queen. Staff of the music hall escorted the conductor off-stage and after questioning, out of the building.

Now that took courage. Good for the people of Holland. Watch the walk out. Bet you didn’t see this on your local news.

          “Subject: Dutch Orchestra Walks Out

There is at least some courage in the world. A class orchestra with a ton of balls.”

After the corrections, it doesn’t show as much courage and brains as one should expect. First, no Muslim should be allowed to provocatively approach a public event like that. He should be immediately neutralized, given the possible danger of a terrorist attack.

Secondly, since this Muslim was NOT the conductor but just some civilian in a tuxedo, they should have escorted HIM OUT and continued with the concert, rather than allowed him to disrupt the proceedings.

        • gravenimage says

          Apr 7, 2015 at 3:16 pm

Yeah—but it’s also a good sign that a Dutch orchestra hadn’t hired a Muslim conductor.

In fact, given the general Muslim hatred of music, I was rather stunned to hear that a Muslim was conductor of a world-class orchestra to begin with. Not surprised this turned out to be an error.

Why is it that ISIS, the Taliban, and other Islamic terrorist organizations have over the decades and still can proclaim without penalty that Islam is superior to any other faith, and promise to slaughter anyone who doesn’t convert to Islam, and have summarily murdered tens of thousands who do not convert, yet an individual who identifies correctly the negative aspects of Islam, and the facts cited in his Facebook page, is penalized for telling the truth? You and your faculty should be ashamed of implicitly “submitting” to Islam (the term “Islam” means “submission”). What is it with Americans who will not stand up to Islam and to Barack Obama, whose Islamic sympathies are so obvious and have put this country in peril? Are they really Americans? And, please, don’t respond by saying that Scott Lees violated some vague school policy concerning faculty not sharing Facebook posts with students. That’s the flimsiest excuse I’ve heard yet. I urge you to retract your decision to fire Scott Lees or or demand his letter of resignation.

      Dear Sir/Madam,

I’m disgusted that you have dismissed Scott Lees for simply sharing a letter to President Obama on his Facebook page!

Are schools not places where ideas get discused? Evidently not Fryeburg Academy. What exactly did you find such a hate crime about the following?

In the first part of the letter, it wonders whether anyone has have ever seen a Muslim hospital or heard a Muslim orchestra. The writer goes on to charge that Muslims “are still the largest traffickers in human slavery,” that they were allied with Adolf Hitler in World War II and that they were either pleased with or silent on the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The writer adds that the Barbary pirates were Muslims.

What is it about Islam, compared to say Judaism or Christianity, which compells you to censor all criticism of it? Has no-one ever criticised Judaism or Christianity? Is it forbidden in the United States to discuss the pros and cons of different cultures and ideologies? Is it forbidden to discuss history?

I hope that Mr Lees sues you and wins.

It is deeply regrettable that your previous coach was unwise enough to criticise the religion of peace although I know where he was coming from. In all honesty I must admit that there was a time when I was willing to voice my opinion in the face of overwhelming pressures to remain silent, as exampled here:

It’s bullyism and it must be stopped. No one should be bullied, or punished for exercising their right to free speech….The left has turned into bullies…There is only one way to deal with a bully…workplace violence. Not the Allahu Akbar type, the John Wayne type. There are lots of ways to punch a bully right in the nose and not go to jail for doing it. A lawsuit is one of them…Even if they win they still had to lawyer up and explain themselves in court. No one likes a bully…

In Britain someone is suspended for inviting a Muslim to Church and it’s a case of “shattered, staggering, dying, dhimmi Britain”

In America someone loses their job for criticising Islam and it’s merely a case of “Freedom of speech, you say? Increasingly not, in the United States: those who dare notice jihad violence and Islamic supremacism are vilified, marginalized, and defamed”

Perhaps Robert Spencer could explain why the levels of criticism for similar incidents in similarly stupefied and damaged countries are so markedly different.

      Apr 8, 2015 at 6:17 pm

ECAW, I believe the difference is that the case in Britain involved the government, since the victim works for the NHS.

It being governmental policy to persecute is fundamentally worse than persecution by an individual or institution in the private sector, and is less susceptible to redress.

I’m still concerned that your main focus now appears to neither Jihad violence nor dhimmi enabling, but just that Robert Spencer—as you see it—is sharper in his criticism of dhimmitude in Britain than in America.

Robert Spencer is only ever mentioned in an admiring way. I regard him as the foremost figure in the counter jihad movement. Nevertheless his own posts clearly show that the situation in the US is every bit as bad as it is in Britain, including government actions as well as the media and academia – and you only have half the proportion of Muslims that we do. For instance the Muslim Brotherhood have been allowed to slither into the interstices of American society just as thoroughly as they have been in Britain.

In some ways you might even say the situation is worse in the US. Where is your political party opposing Islam like Liberty GB or your street movement like the EDL?

I only point out the disparity in RS’s attitude when he displays it. It brings out a patriotic response in me. Patriotism – that’s good isn’t it, it’s what we all need these days. If RS wants to find somewhere in a worse state than the US I suggest he pays more attention to Sweden.

On the net, the people who fired him were thinking about bad publicity for not being hip, worried about being called bigots. But how can telling the truth be bigoted? Well, the facts of Islam are so bad that in its case, yes, anybody who utters the truth about Moslems must be a bigot.

The people who fired him were also thinking unconscious thoughts, feeling hidden fears, about a mass murder operation being launched at the school, which’d ruin everything. That’s how terror works, intimidating Infidels into silence, even agreement.

R U all missing the BIG picture? Through out history victory always went to the one with the new weapon, Greek Hoplites, Roman Legion, Viking Berserkers, Welsh Longbowman, English Squares. The new weapons of Islam’s 1400 year long war against the rest of the world are Terror and Taqqiya (Lying and deceit). The U.S. has been terrorized into submission afraid of a terrorist incident in their own backyard, so they placate the Muzzies at the expense of their own integrity. America has lost the war, terrorized into Surrendering. It will get worse, and it may not get better after it gets worse. U.S.A. may completely disappear, as did the Hittite Empire (victors over Ramses II and the Egyptians at The Battle of Kadesh 1276 BCE) for 3,000 years.

I think the ongoing cultivation and deployment of PC MC is an amalgam of both

        1) irrational respect for the Other (here, the Mother of all Others, Islam), with its other side of the coin, irrational shame & guilt about our own white Western civilization;

        and

        2) a more or less semi-conscious fear of violence from this Other we are otherwise “respecting”.

The second factor has to be kept suppressed under the threshold of consciousness, of course, since it tends to contradict the first principle. The way they can continue to work together is part of the ingeniously incoherent psychology of PC MC — which, needless to say, requires not only tortured logic but a good deal of Denial to keep it humming & chugging away as a sociopolitically influential meme & mechanism.

Voeg and Mistah Kurtz, you are probably right that fear of Muslim violence *is* a factor, even if it is one that is not consciously acknowledged.

But Voeg, I believe that a more immediate fear for these “politically correct” dhimmis is a subset of this factor you noted:

“1) irrational respect for the Other (here, the Mother of all Others, Islam), with its other side of the coin, irrational shame & guilt about our own white Western civilization”

And that is that if they allow freedom of speech such as Mr. Lees that *they* will be suspected by some of not having sufficient respect for the “Other”—that is, that they will be accused of being “Islamophobic” or “racist”, which they consider a fate worse than death.

      Mohammed Khan,

If you look at Zeon’s drawings it seems that he is someone promoting a really racist message. If we here criticize Muslims it is always with the understanding that Muslims are not a race and that religion should be treated like a choice.

But ZEON is at best unclear about JEWS. Does he consider all Jews as a race evil? Or does he clearly refer to some ideology which some jews choose and some Jews don’t?

And about ISIS being a Israeli, American, Saudi conspiracy: You probably everything that suits your prejudice and nothing that argues against it. YOU are probably very prejudiced and YOU refuse to go wherever the evidence leads you.

But even if this theory is true, don’t you see how EASY Islam and it’s holy texts are making such a scam? Your Quran-Hadiths-Sira really are immutable (due to so-called Divine origine) and therefore by now Obsolete, Incomplete, Contradictory and Ambiguous. And if your theory is right, THAT is making the Muslims who join ISIS a laughing stock. If your theory is right, you Muslims deserve to be tricked and set up against each other for clinging to such obvious fatally flawed texts without any effort to come to an acceptable interpretation that contradicts that of ISIS.

I don;t think the Israel-ISIS-theory is true, but Muslims deserve such a treatment fully.

      Apr 7, 2015 at 4:10 pm

Let me try to explain the philosophical etiology of comments like “we need one voice” in this context.

This is derived from neo-marxist social conflict theory where it is assumed that the “greater good” of statistical “social justice” for the cultural minority “proletariat” is served by committing conventional injustice against members of the cultural majority “bougoise”. The individual injustice is seen as “necessary” for the “greater good” of helping the proletariat cultural minority achieve “equality”.

The false belief here is usually that all cultures are “equally valid” because all cultural differences are necessarily superficial and don’t include any fundamental ideological differences with real-word effects.

Even Marxists ought to admit that the thesis-antithesis-synthesis pattern requires both thesis and antithesis in order to achieve synthesis. So suppressing either thesis or antithesis will prevent synthesis which would be the idealized “one voice” that this guy claims he wants.

In reality though, the only “one voice” he wants is his because that makes things much easier for bureaucrats.

The rules the ACLU plays by are; all Chritians are bad so anything, including cold blooded murder, that you do to them is ok, white people who are not. Left wing are bad, the same rule as Christians apply. The ACLU supports this decision.

    • Nimrod says

      Apr 7, 2015 at 3:34 pm

The rules of Neo-Marxist conflict theory apply to the ACLU. That means that they are only interested in the rights of the “prolitariate” which in neo-marxist terms means anyone who is not male, white, heterosexual, and Christian. (White, male, heterosexual, and Christian are the “bougoise” in neo-marxist thinking and thus always must be opposed even when that means embracing hypocrisy. This is how you get supposed feminists converting to Islam; the contradictions don’t matter as long as all of the bougoise groups are being opposed.)

Scientology was founded by talented science fiction writer and US Navy officer L. Ron Hubbard in 1952. The cult teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature. Its method of spiritual rehabilitation is a type of counselling known as auditing, in which practitioners aim to consciously re-experience painful or traumatic events in their past in order to free themselves of their limiting effects. Scientology is infamous for attacking its critics, ex-members and perceived enemies with psychological abuse, character assassination, and costly lawsuits.
Scientology is essentially a 20th century capitalist pyramid scheme version of Islam, but thankfully too complicated and expensive for most people. If we consider jihad as the board game RISK, Scientology is Monopoly.

According to the article, the letter’s main content was:

In the first part of the letter, it wonders whether anyone has have ever seen a Muslim hospital or heard a Muslim orchestra. The writer goes on to charge that Muslims “are still the largest traffickers in human slavery,” that they were allied with Adolf Hitler in World War II and that they were either pleased with or silent on the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The writer adds that the Barbary pirates were Muslims.

The sly Muslim student (Mohamed Islam) whom the coach was remarkably friendly to (allowing him to stay in his home for nine days, according to the story), comes off as an open-minded assimilated American Muslim — and yet, we learn:

“I don’t agree with Scott’s opinion, but that doesn’t make him a bigot,” said Islam….

What is there in Scott’s “opinion” to disagree about? It’s all facts of history. This by itself demonstrates what we already should know, that this Muslim student is a stealth jihadist (as we must reasonably assume all Muslims are), pretending to be assimilated, but harboring the fanatical opinions that evidently vitiate such a supposed assimilation. Indeed, his very name is enough (imagine some neo-Nazi student who had changed his name to “Adolf Nazi” pretending to be nice, friendly and assimilated…).

Quite right, Voeg. There is nothing cited in this letter that is not simply factual.

      • Nimrod says

        Apr 7, 2015 at 5:04 pm

The funny thing is that the concept of “politically correct” corresponds exactly to the Maoist concept of “revolutionary”.

For example, in Maoist China if you were saying something politically correct then it would be called saying something “revolutionary”. If you said something politically incorrect then you’d be denounced for saying something “counter revolutionary”. Then you’d be accused of having mentally ill “counter revolutionary” thoughts and sent to a “reeducation” camp where you’d learn to be more “revolutionary”.

Same Maoist concepts but for some reason we’re not using the original Maoist terms for them.

Faculty members and administrators are made to understand that their careers are at risk if they deviate from the accepted viewpoint….Meanwhile, professorships increasingly look like self-perpetrating sinecures and university presidents and boards, (not unlike corporate boards), look increasingly like fearful faculty puppets.” There has been a total downsizing in academic standards; to make way for unqualified liberals totally lacking in the traditional academic disciplines which they have made no secret of ultimately wanting to eradecate. “The over-riding goal: do whatever it takes to choose diverse or feminist candidates regardless of qualifications.”

Re: (Mayo said) Fryeburg Academy has “a number” of Muslim students as well as students of numerous other faiths.

As president Barack H. Obama declared to the world:

“The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

That sets the tone… from the rotting fish head on down.

    A better human being said:

“In times of universal deceit telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.”

That Islam is a Death Cult may discomfort some, but dissent used to be considered “patriotic”.
