A famous German rapper turned jihadist has reportedly threatened Charlie-Hebdo-style attacks in Germany in a new video released by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil).
Dennis Cuspert, better known by his former stage name of Deso Dogg, was identified as the voice featured in the propaganda video by German media and jihadist websites.
“In France deeds were done, in Germany the sleepers are waiting. We want your blood, it tastes so wonderful,” the voice says in the video, which features footage of the attacks in Paris earlier this year.
“Even if you’re in Europe, wage your jihad,” he sings. “Allah will reward you, put an end to the filthy ones.”
The video, which resembles a professional rap music video, also features footage of fighting in Iraq and Syria and what appear to be staged scenes of men preparing for shootings and suicide bombings.
Cuspert has previously appeared in an Isil video in which he took part in the beheading of several prisoners.
He has been named by the US state department as a “specially designated global terrorist”, and is wanted in his native Germany.
He abandoned a highly successful career in gangsta rap after converting to Islam and travelled to Syria in 2012 to take part in the civil war there.
He later joined Isil and pledged an oath if loyalty to its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and has become one of the group’s leading propaganda voices, particularly in its efforts to recruit German-speakers.
