“In 1965, defying racist Democrats posed a legitimate threat to your life. In 2015, defying jihadists poses a legitimate threat to your life. Martin Luther King knowingly risked his life. Pamela Geller knowingly risks her life.”
This piece is brilliant in its clarity. Leftists and Islamic supremacists have, of course, reduced it to “Nolte likens Pamela Geller to Martin Luther King!” but that is not the point at all, although there really isn’t any problem with the comparison anyway. The point is that both “provoked” an oppressor to expose him as such, at risk to their lives. One is revered, one is excoriated. Both are heroes.
“6 Reasons Pamela Geller’s Muhammad Cartoon Contest Is No Different From Selma,” by John Nolte, Breitbart, May 9, 2015:
When you are dealing with the mainstream media, it is always difficult to tell if you are dealing with willful ignorance or just plain old ignorance-ignorance. There are plenty of moronic savants in the national media who have cracked the “hot take” code to please their left-wing masters but have no fundamental grasp of history, or much of anything much of else.
The act of willful ignorance in the media manifests itself through bias, and lies of omission conjured up to serve that bias. These dishonest liars know they are dishonest liars, and willfully choose to not tell the world pertinent facts like, say, Baltimore has been run by Democrats for a half-century, Hillary Clinton is in favor of legally aborting infants born alive, Ted Kennedy abandoned a drowning woman, and George Zimmerman is Hispanic.
Anyone who knows anything about history understands that tactically and morally, Geller’s provocative Muhammad Cartoon Contest was no different than Dr. Martin Luther King’s landmark march from Selma to Montgomery.
The first thing the spittle-flecked will scream upon reading the above is that I am comparing Geller to King. I did not know King. I do not know Geller. I am not comparing anyone to anyone. What I’m comparing is one righteous cause to another.
The second thing the spittle-flecked will scream is that King never would have held a Draw Muhammad Cartoon Contest … which brings me to the first reason there is no moral or tactical difference between Garland and Selma:
The Oppressor Chooses the Form of Protest, Not the Protester
Whether it is a bully stealing lunch money, an abusive husband “keeping the little woman in line,” a government passing unjust laws, or religious zealots demanding fealty from all, oppressors come in all shapes and sizes.Oppressors do, however, share three important things in common: 1) The use of the threats of everything from shaming to instituting unjust laws to violence. 2) The goal of stripping others of their rights. 3) The choosing of the design and structure of whatever defiant protest might take place against them.
The protester has absolutely no say in this matter.
The only way to defy and protest against the bully who takes your lunch money, is to not give him your lunch money. Through his own actions the bully has designed the form of protest. The same is true for the abusive husband. If he is using the threat of violence to keep you “in line,” a defiant protest can only come in one form: doing the exact opposite of what he tells you to do or not to do.
If an unjust government passes a law making it illegal to sit in the front of the bus, the only way to protest the unjust government is to sit in the front of the bus.
Martin Luther King did not choose his form of protest in Selma. Racist Southern Democrats did.Pamela Geller did not choose her form of protest in Garland. The jihadists did.
The day that changed America is called “Bloody Sunday.” On March 7, 1965, five-hundred-plus civil rights activists provoked violence from their oppressors by defiantly gathering on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.
It was the oppressor who chose this form of protest, not the protestors. Racist Democrats who ran Selma and the state of Alabama refused to authorize the march and pledged to stop it. Therefore the only righteous way to defy these racist Democrats who refused to allow Americans to exercise their God-given right to protest for their God-given rights, was to go ahead with the march.
What was true in Selma 50 years ago also was true in Garland 5 days ago.
It was the jihadists who told us they would oppress us with violence if we exercised our God-given rights to draw and satirize Muhammad. Therefore, to righteously defy this oppression, Pam Geller and the 200 others had no other choice but to draw and satirize Muhammad (more details on this below).
The Deliberatively Provocative Symbolism of the Site of the Protest
The launch point of the historic 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery was no accident. To poke a finger deep in the eye of their racist Democrat oppressors, civil rights organizers deliberately chose the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The bridge is named after a Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan, a confederate Civil War general, and a Democrat U.S. Senator.
Starting their civil rights crusade in such a place was an intentional taunt, an open insult to a diseased culture, and an obvious act of cultural blasphemy.
For the same righteous reasons, Geller chose the site of The Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas, to hold her defiant cartoon protest. Just two weeks after the Charlie Hebdo massacre in France, a Stand with the Prophet in Honor and Respect event was held at the Curtis Calwell Center. The Islamic event was a horror show of extremism.
An unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings was invited to the conference — a barbarian who has declared the F.B.I. a terrorist group and preaches, “This so-called democracy of America, will crumble and there will be nothing. The only thing that will remain will be Islam.”
The organizer of the event, Malik Muhammad, has advocated for Sharia Law here in America.
The entire event was premised on “defeating” those who disrespect Muhammad. This was all couched under the politically correct term of “Islamophobia,” but here is the rub:
“Frustrated with Islamophobes defaming the Prophet?” the event materials ask. … “Remember the Danish cartoons defaming the Prophet? Or the anti-Islam film, ‘Innocence of Muslims’?”
Like I said: it is the oppressor who chooses the form of protest.
A Righteous Cause for Civil Rights
In the face of a very real danger, Martin Luther King, his fellow organizers and hundreds of free Americans, stood up and defied their savage oppressors in defense of their God-given rights.
They provoked violence, taunted, and broke the law, all in furtherance of a righteous cause.
In the face of a very real danger, Pam Geller, her fellow organizers and hundreds of free Americans, stood up and defied their violent oppressors in defense of their God-given rights.
They provoked violence, taunted, and obeyed the law, all in furtherance of a righteous cause.
I Come In Peace
The Selma protesters defying their violent oppressors, did so peacefully. Their only provocation was exercising their rights.
The Garland protestors defying their violent oppressors, did so peacefully. Their only provocation was exercising their rights.
Democrat Bigots Victim-Blame
While much of the national media sided with the Selma protestors, local Democrats in the media and the political establishment blamed and demonized King, and his followers, for rocking the boat, provoking violence, insulting the local culture, and causing the violence to happen.
Last week, Democrats in the media (New York Times, CNN, Washington Post, and even some sorry corners of Fox News) and the political establishment blamed and demonized Geller, and her followers, for rocking the boat, provoking violence, insulting a culture, and causing the violence to happen.
The 1965 Democrats and today’s Democrats are also bigots. The same CNN that protects Islam from offense by blurring the Muhammad cartoons, does not blur the Piss Christ.
The same New York Times that blasts those who offend Islam, profits from Mormon bashing.
Every one of these present-day media Democrats are silent in the defense of satire and mockery directed Christianity, or they enjoy and defend it. The opposite is true of satire and mockery directed at Islam. And that is the very definition of bigotry.
For the Righteous Cause of Freedom, People Risk Their Lives
In 1965, defying racist Democrats posed a legitimate threat to your life.
In 2015, defying jihadists poses a legitimate threat to your life.
Martin Luther King knowingly risked his life. Pamela Geller knowingly risks her life.
—
In both good and evil ways, Sunday in Garland, Texas, history repeated itself.
The national media is hiding that fact because they are either too bigoted, cowardly, and biased to tell the truth, or too ignorant to see the truth.

Robert E. Lee sadly chose emotion over logic and is irrelevant.
Islam is anti-intellectual and is opposed to freedom of expression because it provokes thought among Muslims.

Fantastic piece. Well said. Pamela Geller is a courageous woman to hold such protest. That the oppressor decides how protest will be is a brilliant statement. So true!
somehistory says
This is a very well-written piece. It should be required reading for any and all who wish to comment on what Ms. Geller, Mr. Spencer and all those who showed up with their art or in support of the artists did in response to the demand by muslims that their false prophet be deified by all persons.
Don McKellar says
An excellent piece that is impossible to rationally argue with.
The only problem with it is the constant repetition of the term: “God-given rights” No deity gives anybody anything — human beings give themselves rights. In this case, the human beings who created America decided on what rights Americans would have, based on a very humanist perspective, not a religious one. If it were otherwise, America would have blasphemy laws — like in the Ten Commandments — but America does not. One might say America has post-God humanist-given rights.
But this is a minor quibble with the overall quite clever work.
somehistory says
What the author wrote is in agreement with this country’s Declaration of Independence….”all men are created equal and endowed by our Creator….with certain unalienable Rights.”
Evidently, “the human beings who created America ” as you wrote, decided to go with what they perceived as being from a Divine Creator, and contrary to your claims, it was very religious.
Don McKellar says
They make no reference to the god of the Bible, and no direct reference to any religion. They were deists and opposed to religion and religious laws. It is not a religious document. It doesn’t even make reference to a “Divine Creator” as you say. Only “their Creator”. There is no divinity. I take this to mean what I wish. I take it to mean our Creator being evolutionary forces and, as we are all the same species, evolution has given us all the same rights as one another as we’re all created equal. The document is very much a post-God of the Bible work and leaves such a reference obscure on purpose.
Don McKellar says
And when I say they were opposed to religion and religious laws, I mean them in their personal views, and religious laws for America, respectively.
somehistory says
Neither you or anyone else can know exactly what each of those mean felt as a personal belief….whether they were personally thinking of the God of the Bible or not. Several of those men did in fact write their personal opinions in other documents and some definitely believed in Christ and the God of the Bible.
Now you are free to believe whatever you choose…and so is the writer of the article on this thread, who wrote what he did…”God-given rights.”
Christians, whom you like to lump in with muslims whenever you comment, believe in freedom of thought, freedom of speech, freedom to choose whether or not to believe in anything as being the God-given Right of each person with our Creator as the One Who decides whether each one is living according to His Laws and responds to each one accordingly.
Evolution is your *god…your creator* so therefore look to evolution as your means of escaping what is coming in the very near future. But don’t expect everyone else to agree with you and leave God or God-given out of their articles and comments.
And, one last point…if you ask just about any person who believes in a Creator who endows that one with *rights*…most persons will say it is a *Divine Creator*…not evolution.
Know Thy Enemy says
Don, you believe that the Declaration of Independence “is not a religious document” despite its authors adding the words “God”, “creator”, etc. Well… John Nolte using the term “God-given rights” is not a religious term either! What is “God-given rights” to a believer is “fundamental human rights” to a non-believer, but the meaning/essence is the same.

Yes He does! A precious gift that is given to us at the very moment of our conception. That gift is the progenitor of our human existence when we reside within our Mother’s womb, firstly our brains, the organ that stores our souls (our subjective conscious); which contains the factors that propagates development of the biology of human bodies. Within our gestation span we develop our objective conscious area of our brains in unison with our 5 senses’ development.
Equipped with these human free will faculties we can do good things or be a bad apple. We can obtain wealth or be a street dweller. If the government gives you things objectively for a purpose. You can reject the offer if your sub-conscious deems it immoral if you accept it!
There’s much more that can be said……when we think of our merciful and giving God!
He can be that only if we don’t pervert our brain’s sub-conscious faculties by our objective conscious being conditioned by the external inputs provided by our 5 senses faculties (seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and by touch) of whatever the secular people espouses.
BTW, our sub-conscious is innately prewired to pace our hearts, our breathing. our automated physiology, storing our memories and of our allegory thinking process’ operating system!
His gift is the one that keeps pace of our viable lives. His ire is raised whenever anyone messes with His creations. That’s why Pan Geller has the right to stand-up to our enemies by protesting against those who want to mess with us and of course the entire world. We thank you for your efforts Pam for selecting Garland as your first venue to protest.

Erm, not all atheists act like that. I’m an atheist, and if you were to go through my posting history you’d see that I have no qualms pointing out that the values taught by Christianity are far superior than the values taught by islam. Heck, I even defended Christianity when I see muslims or other atheists bringing up the Crusades or the Inquisition.
I may not believe that Jesus is God incarnate but that doesn’t automatically mean I believe that “all religions are equal and teach the same things, except for Christianity, which is the worst thing ever, and if Christians had their way we’d be selling our daughters into slavery, and burning witches, and not investing in science, etc, etc, etc“.

The article by John Nolte was well researched. But there is 1 big difference that he did not point out between the nasty politicians of the 1960’s who opposed Dr King and the Islamists who oppose Pamela Geller today. The politicians KNEW that the US Constitution gave all Americans the right to vote, and they tried to stop African-Americans from voting because the politicians were mean nasty white supremacists. They made African- Americans take reading tests and answer questions that had no factual basis like “How many bubbles are in a bar of soap?” So those reading tests and questions were declared illegal, and the mean nasty politicians KNEW that African-Americans would go out and vote. Their game was up. But in the case of the Islamist jihadis who kill “blasphemers” for saying anything negative about prophet Muhammad, they are told they are doing the correct thing! So no law protects a blasphemer, and the jihadists who kills the blasphemer get rewarded. This makes Pamela Geller all the more spectacular and steller. God bless her. She is a role model for everyone, not just girls and women.

I have a simple question, if you admire and love your prophet, do you also love and admire his actions? Your texts paint mohammad as a pretty cruel and evil human. Do you think such a man should be idealized? If so why should he be idealized considering his actions? If you idealize him despite knowing this, does that mean you support engaging in the same actions mohammad did? I understand if you don’t know much about the faith, and might not know what he did, but if after knowing what he did, how can you still support such a faith? I don’t believe it is bigoted or hateful against muslims to ask this simple question. Why are you so protective of a prophet who engaged in such horrible behavior? That would be like idealizing Charles Manson. So even after knowing the life of mohammad you still idealize him, means there is something seriously wrong with you. The man was a butcher and slave owner among other things. I’m just at a loss at how anyone can idealize this man.

Brian Hoff,
Those two muslim men are not considered muslims by muslims? Oh, please, of course they are muslims! And are definately considered muslims by their iman and mosque. Look at what they posted online before the attacks,( asking that Allah accept them as Mujahadeen and saying they had acknowledged the head of the Islamic State as Caliph) the iman of the mosque they attended, after first denying that they were full time members, admitted not only were they members and attended regularly , the mosque even paid one of the attackers bail money on a previous arrest. And ISIS congradulated them and took credit for inspiring them to the attack ,obviously considering them fellow muslims.
Sunnah is that people who insulted, made fun of, wrote poetry about or otherwise ” displeased” Muhammed were killed. While sitting in mosque Muhammed asked several times for volunteer assasians to go and kill someone who had “displeased” him.
The Hadiths state several examples of this and when Muhammed took the city of Mecca, he had a list of people who were to be hunted down and killed, and all of these people were killed by Muhammed’s followers.
And Quran 33:57-61 states ” Lo! Those who malign Allah and His Messanger, Allah hath cursed them in this world and the Hearafter and hath prepared for them the doom of the distained. Accursed they will be seized wherever found and slain with a slaughter”
Anjem Choudary said after the Charlie Hebdo murders ” Muslims do not believe in the concept of freedom of expression..” And said that anyone found guilty of abusing the prophet Muhammed will recieve ” capital punishment implemented by an Islamic State” , capitol punishment is death. In addition the Islamic Fatwa Council of Jerusalem , Shaykh Khalid Ghanayim issured a fatwa that says ” Whoever insults any one of these four things wheather in jest or sincerity has become an infidel and must be killed” Insulting Muhammed was one of the four things. this is ot just his opionion but the opinion of the Quran, sunnah and the consensus of Islamic scholars.
What muslims in America need to understand, for your own sakes, is we do not believe in Islam and America will NEVER be an Islamic country. Americans are extremely tolerant, but there is a breaking point and if Americans are pushed past that breaking point, they will not be so tolerant and accepting.
Because we dont believe in Islam and dont believe that your Muhammed is any sort of a prophet, we are not obligated to obey your Sharia laws. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights say that people in America can believe in any religion that want, that they are not to be forced in any way to believe or profess any particular religion. And no one has the right to force anyone to believe or profess any particular religion. Threatning violence or commiting acts of violence everytime YOUR ( not America’s) Sharia laws are broken will not work. Americans are getting very fed up with this. More and more American people are reading and studying your Islamic books and making sure that others know just how 6th Century and incompatable with American law, culture and way of life your Islam really is.
Now I realize I have wasted my time posting this, because you will not come back here to refute my statements.

The defenses made of Pamela Geller are weaker than they need be because a fundamental question is not being answered and that is “Why the truth about Muhammad needs to be told”. It’s not just because the oppressor Muslims don’t want it to be told. It’s because the root of evil in Islam is in Islamic beliefs that center on Muhammad’s life and teachings. The only way the evil of Islam can be contained is if the truth about Islam is told. I don’t hear Pamela Geller or Robert Spencer say that fundamental truth which is central to their case.

This is a self-defeating article. It’s filled with hyperbole (e.g.,”The protester has absolutely no say in this matter”) and wallows in negative terms such as “intentionally provocative,” “taunted,” and so on, to describe Geller’s art contest, apparently thinking that the terms become accurate and noble if MLK’s march is also described that way. Virtue by association, one might say. Still, the terms are those that Geller’s detractors use. The words portray Geller’s contest as seen through the eyes of the enemies of freedom.
To define is to control. If we describe our actions using the terminology of our enemies, we play into their hands. They will never buy that Geller’s show = MLK’s march, no matter how appropriate the comparison. They will simply say, “See? Geller’s supporters admit they’re just trying to cause trouble.” And out will come the demands for the curtailment of such “hate speech.”
Rather than the oppressor choosing the form of protest, the oppressor defines – or attempts to define – the nature of the protest so as to more easily crush it with the approval of the masses. Language matters. We do not provoke. We stand our ground. We do not taunt. We defy. We are not the troublemakers. We expose the troublemakers.
If we let our oppressors define us, and then we wrap ourselves in those terms thinking we can change their meanings, our oppressors will define us out of existence – and we will have been complicit in our demise. Jihadis and the Left use positive terms to describe their destruction of civilization. Are we to use negative terms to describe our preservation of it?
