Canada to strip citizenship of dual-national terror convicts

May 30, 2015 2:47 pm By Robert Spencer

jihadisCommon sense, and long overdue, but already, predictably enough, being challenged by the pro-suicide forces in the West, which are so strong these days. “Canada to strip citizenship of dual-national terror convicts,” Associated Press, May 29, 2015 (thanks t0 Jerk Chicken):

TORONTO (AP) — Canada can revoke the Canadian citizenship of dual nationals convicted of terrorism or other high crimes under a controversial new law.

The law, which went into effect Friday, would revoke citizenship for anyone found guilty of terrorism, treason and spying for a foreign government.

The rules would also apply to dual citizens who take up arms against Canada by fighting in a foreign army or joining an international terrorist organization….

The new law has met with strong public criticism, and two Ontario lawyers have already launched a court case arguing it is unconstitutional.

It should be common-f***ing-sense – if someone takes up arms against a country then chances are they don’t want to be citizens of that country. There should be nothing wrong in making it official.

The new law has met with strong public criticism, and two Ontario lawyers have already launched a court case arguing it is unconstitutional.

Let me guess: their names are something like “Muhammad Abdulah” or “Uthman Abu Bakr”?

I’ve got a couple of friends who are Canadian citizens who I chat with regularly. One lives in central Canada the other lives in the western area. Maybe they can give me the “common” mans version of what is going on up there. Would make for interesting reading.

Why the rest of the western world hasn’t gotten on board with this is beyond belief.

Gungadin, here is a video, about 1 hour and 45 mins long. It’s a panel discussion about this new law. Well worth the time. God help a country that cannot defend itself.

Canadians are very tolerant people respecting others including their religion. We are also very private; we don’t discuss religion. This is a massive weakness because the average Canadian has zero knowledge of what is written in the Qur’an. The only way to combat Islamification is education. Everyone should read the Qur’an. But people don’t care because Islam hasn’t effected them personally – yet.

It is a great law. Thank God for Stephen Harper’s common sense. However there are all sorts of internet chatter about how this law is going to make it possible to arrest or deport normal citizens. Feeding into the paranoid notions of how it could be misused. The opposition leader, Justin Trudeau is also blasting out articles about how we should not be a “fear” based society. (He is such a puppet).
Canadians wake up and support this lest you end up with a leader like Obama named Justin Trudeau.

Ugh, that’s exactly the kind of behaviour I expected out of left loonies. From what I can gather, the law applies to people convicted of terrorism, not to self-professed followers of any perceived ideology – muslims with dual citizenship (let’s cal a spade a spade – what non-islamic groups have declared war on Canada) will be deported if, after a fair trial, they’re considered guilty of attacking, or trying to attack, directly or indirectly, Canada and/or Canadians. If the convict only holds Canadian citizenship then he can’t be deported. No one is going to deport muslims for being muslims.

“The opposition leader, Justin Trudeau is also blasting out articles about how we should not be a “fear” based society. (He is such a puppet).”

Ugh, I’m not Canadian but I’ve seen enough Sun TV to know what JT is like. In a sane society he’d be a joke candidate, a SNL-esque caricature of everything that’s wrong with the left nowadays.

Imagine in 1942 any Western polity that was part of the Alliance against Hitler (and hadn’t madly, wickedly joined him in his Axis) becoming aware of two German Nazi spies who had infiltrated into their borders in order to mass murder as part of the war they were waging — and that already had been raging for years — against the free world. No Western polity would be scratching its heads and wringing its hands wondering, “Should we arrest these fellows? Should we strip their citizenship? When will we put them on trial?” No. Depending on the circumstances, they would either

    1) apprehend them, interrogate them, and shoot them dead

    or

    2) just shoot them dead on the spot.

The only reason the West currently does not behave this way with the new spies & soldiers of a foreign army attacking us in its war against us is because the entire West keeps convincing itself that there is no war going on.

There are many reasons why the West persists in this myopic insanity. Among them, the #1 reason is the fear of being racist.

The other reasons are important ingredients in this complex collective insanity that has gripped the West. But I don’t want to tax the feeble minds of the Jihad Watch Softies.

Sorry, CelticWarrior, but Omar was born in Canada and doesn’t have a second citizenship. We can’t take his Canadian citizenship away, as that would leave him stateless – nowhere to send him to. I’d like to see him and his whole “Al-Queda family” gone, too, but this law only applies to those who were born elsewhere, then immigrated to Canada, acquiring a second, Canadian citizenship, while keeping their first one.

Wow how the tide is turning!!

I think everyone has taken a ride on the arrogant tip ~ Our Muslims are different ~ and more well adjusted than yours!!

And obviously those countries having trouble with Islam and Muslims – are doing something wrong!! Maybe if they weren’t so “racist” and “xenophobic” ~ their Muslims would be as happy as ours!!

And when it came to Islam and Muslim immigration these countries – chose not to heed warnings – and threw caution to the wind.

    ::

    Hello!!

This is a video showing how Muslim ‘asylum’ seekers – are threatening to kill Christian and converts from Islam in Netherlands’ refugee centers — a Christian country!

it raises questions about how much is being concealed. Should these people be allowed in – in the first place?

    https://youtu.be/Nk1PTZBqTBU

    ::

Canada and Australia – should think of stripping these hostile immigrants of their citizenship – as being like a divorce – it did not work out.

The number of terrorist attacks – being carried out by people who wanted to join ISIS – but were prevented from doing so – is rising.

A few committed jihadists can do a lot of damage. Islam’s history will show – they only ever needed a few from their ranks – to take all or part of a country for Islam. This is foolish to pretend this is about violence for violence sake.

Canada today, Australia perhaps this week, Denmark soon afterwards. The sooner we have half a dozen countries following each other, the more likely this course of action is to become a standard strategy. Fighting Jihad is a difficult business, but steps like this are relatively easy to take and can be implemented quickly. Congratulations to the people and government of Canada who have shown that they are willing to try new approaches to contain Jihad violence.

It’s beginning. And when one country does it and finds that it *works*, then others will follow.

The public pressure has to be kept up, relentlessly.

All measures, however small – stripping citizenship from dual-national jihadi agents, or for that matter, burqa/ niqab bans – that constitute any sort of pushback against jihad and against, more broadly, sharia creep, must be supported; the more our governments get into the habit of saying “No” to Muslims over this or that, and the more *approval* they get from the grassroots Infidel voter when they do it, the more likely they may be to repeat their effects.

      • Matthieu Baudin says

There was a story years back about a Canadian journalist in Washington who wanted to write a book about what Americans thought of Canada and Canadians. He went out on the street and asked a man, “What do you think of Canada and Canadians?” The man said, “Canadians? Nice people. Not very bright but nice.”

Well they’ve gotten much brighter than Americans in the interim. They voted in a government that cares for its own country and can tell an enemy from a friend.

There is an old Chinese proverb that says, “You fool me once, shame on you. You fool me two times, shame on me.” Americans voted Obama in two times. Shame!. Three cheers for Canada!

  12. Lee says

    May 31, 2015 at 5:41 pm

Well……………… it’s a START, but don’t forget that even when/if this law is used, it removes Canadian citizenship ONLY from those who hold DUAL citizenship. If the terrorist in question is Canadian-born (ie. …… holds ONLY Canadian citizenship) then we are still stuck with the arseholes. Our government insists on playing by international rules that state we cannot leave a person “stateless” by removing the citizenship attached to the country of their birth. Personally, I consider these TRAITORS to be citizens of the ISLAMIC STATE (as they so vehemently claim), and I don’t think we should have the slightest qualm about leaving them with ONLY THAT CITIZENSHIP. They should be proud and happy to be citizens of their mythical (p)Islamic shithole caliphate. Just sayin’…………………

    • Andrew H. says

      May 31, 2015 at 6:01 pm

No, you’re not stuck. If the perpetrator is a citizen and makes moves against the state you’re dealing with treason. I’m not up on current Canadian laws but traditionally, around the world, traitors were executed. If Obama ever gets indicted for treason he’ll probably find his original Kenyan birth certificate to avoid execution.

      • Lee says

        May 31, 2015 at 7:31 pm

Oh how I wish it were so, Andrew. But unfortunately our liberal, dhimmi, muslim-apologist, islamo-pandering officials are still stuck in the anachronistic time-warp of our British “fair play” heritage. We don’t even have the death penalty in this country. This explains why a lot of offenders from the US who have committed “hanging offences” in your country are so quick to make a dash across the US-Canada border. They know WE won’t hang ’em, and they also know we won’t turn them over to YOU if there is a possibility that YOU will hang them. Nice, eh?

      • dumbledoresarmy says

        Jun 1, 2015 at 1:39 am

Besides execution for treason/ rebellion, there’s been, traditionally, another option: EXILE.

If someone from infidel-country-X either 1/ converts to Islam and trots off to Syria or wherever to engage in Combat Jihad or 2/ having been born to Muslim immigrant parents, or having migrated and acquired citizenship, then trots off to someplace like Syria to engage in Jihad, then they must be recognised as traitors (if converts) or as having manifested themselves as Fifth Columnists/ Enemy Agents (if ‘raised Muslim’), so…strip them of their infidel-country citizenship and declare them Exiled and Outlawed.

    • JRH says

Before a bill can become law, it has to pass 3 readings in the house of commons and 2 readings in the senate before being signed into law by the GG. (By the way (to basically everyone here), it still hasn’t been signed into law by the GG (Governor General, for anyone wondering).

But yeah, concerns were raised that there might be a repeat of the G-20 protests back in 2010 and that it infringes on the privacy rights of law abiding citizens. You see, revoking citizenship of dual citizens convicted of terrorist activity is only one part of it.

  14. dumbledoresarmy says

    Jun 1, 2015 at 1:12 am

From the article – “The new law has met with strong public criticism”.

Dear Canadian jihadwatchers – both posters and lurkers – this is a *huge* opportunity.

First and foremost , if you haven’t already done so, you must let your government know that you APPROVE, mightily, of this measure. Write, straightaway, on paper. To your MP, and to the Foreign Minister, the Defence Minister, and the immigration Minister, and the Prime Minister, expressing your wholehearted approval and explaining briefly *why* you are so pleased. (You might also, just briefly, indicate that there is plenty more that you would like to see done by way of making Canada safer, and that, for example, you would be very pleased if, as an application of the precautionary principle, Muslim immigration into Canada were *stopped* altogether, like, now; since “where there are Muslims, there seem always to be jihadis and terror plots” and “the more Muslims there are, the *more* jihadis and terror plots there are”.)

Secondly, every time the subject of this law comes up in conversation – whether face-to-face with family, workmates, etc – or in social media, you must express your approval, and state (as briefly as possible) your reasons why.

  15. BW022 says

    Jun 1, 2015 at 2:23 pm

The law itself is actually only symbolic. In practice… it is highly unlikely to ever work. Much of the opposition around this law was based on the practical implementation of it.

If they actually moved to removal citizenship from a dual-citizen under this law… it is obvious that the person would just renounce their other citizenship. They would then no longer be dual citizens, the law wouldn’t apply to them, and they can’t have their citizenship revoked as they can’t be made stateless under international laws — and of course no other country would take them if you did.

There is also another issue with this ‘approach’. It is a defacto recognition that Canadian laws and systems can’t deal with terrorists and they hope to merely revoke citizenship and pawn off on other countries to deal with you. It is kind-of admitting that we can’t/won’t actually put you on trial or convict you and thus we hope that by kicking you out of the country (not that that would likely work) some other country will.

Why isn’t Canada just willing to open a special terrorism jail and start handing out the life sentences and/or dealing with parole, monitoring, etc. rather than just exporting the problem for someone else? You can already revoke their passports to prevent them from using the Canadian one.

Honestly, this is symbolic. Likely never useful in practice. Further, its just a dodge of actually putting these people on trial and securing them within your own justice system.

    • JRH says

      Jun 2, 2015 at 1:00 am

We don’t have a justice system. We have a judicial system sure, but not a justice system. If we did, Khadr would still be serving the remainder of his sentence. Plus, the muslim who killed his wife and daughters has intimidated other inmates into attending prison mosque services every Friday. And although I’m not a bleeding heart liberal, that’s rather cruel and unusual punishment to inflict on other prisoners.

And sure, we could in theory, build a prison specifically for terrorism, but it’d never fly as there are too many bleeding heart, hug a (terrorist) thug, liberals/socialists.

Personally, I think we should feed them (the terrorists, whether homegrown or not), to the sharks. Alas, that’s not an option either.

Also: “Once in force, there will be authority to revoke
Canadian citizenship from dual citizens convicted of terrorism, high
treason, and treason or spying offences, depending on the sentence that is
      imposed”.
