“Turkish talent show singer ‘shot in head,'” Agence France-Presse, May 18, 2015 (thanks to Marc):
A Turkish woman who has been competing in a national televised song contest is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot in the head, according to reports.
Mutlu Kaya, 19, from the conservative region of Diyarbakir in the Kurdish-majority south-east of of the country, had reportedly received death threats after appearing on the show.
Kaya was attacked at her home in Ergani district in the early hours of Monday, Dogan news agency reported. The assailant reportedly fired a bullet into the house through a back window in the garden.
The victim had been appearing on Sesi Çok Güzel, a show similar to Britain’s Got Talent. Her mentor is Sibel Can, one of Turkey’s best-known folk-pop singers.

The Turkish Ambassador remained silent knowing full well what a fool this news show host was. What the buffoon Leher didn’t realize is that the Turks murdered more Christians ( 3,400,000 ) in the last 100 years then all other Muslim countries combined.
I guess the Turks could now afford to be a democratic nation, it’s 99.9% Muslim pure.

Michael, Abul Ala Maududi was a nasty piece of work—absolutely orthodox Islam. He was a pious Muslim who supported the imposition of Shari’ah law:
“[Islam] leaves no room of human legislation in an Islamic state, because herein all legislative functions vest in God and the only function left for Muslims lies in their observance of the God-made law.”
He wrote that in 1967 in “Islamic Law and Constitution”.
And here he is from 1970, in “Jihad in Islam”:
“It must now be obvious that the objective of the Islamic jihad is to eliminate the rule of an un-Islamic system, and establish in its place an Islamic system of state rule. Islam does not intend to confine his rule to a single state or a hand full of countries. The aim of Islam is to bring about a universal revolution. Although in the initial stages, it is incumbent upon members of the party of Islam to carry out a revolution in the state system of the countries to which they belong; their ultimate objective is none other than world revolution.”
He has also affirmed the murder of anyone who dares leave Islam.

So many levels of Haram—this girl’s pious relatives *probably* tried to murder her because her appearing on a talent show was “immodest”. On the other hand, it might be because music is forbidden or just because fun is “un-Islamic”.
And—as other posters have pointed out—Turkey is supposed to be a “moderate” Muslim country.

There is nothing “moral or modest” when you murder a young woman for singing.
You have a twisted mind Sabri to even compare the two. Like most Muslims I know, they never fault their own religion as sordid and corrupt, it’s always the people they kill who are.
Matthieu Baudin says
Dear Sabri, next time you are naked, stand in front of a mirror and have a good look at the natural beauty of your body and the noble form that it takes. While you may be shy or inhibited and choose to wear bulky clothes in public, remember that the women of the New Guinea Highlands, who walk around bare breasted every day are your equal and that no one has a right to harm a woman who displays some of her true form.
Michael Copeland says
English, in both language and culture, does not have a word for the Islamic concept translated (rather dishonestly) “honour”. “Blood-vengeance” is nearer the mark. It is a little like the Oriental importance of not “losing face”.
Blood-vengeance killing forms part of Islamic law, which requires retaliation for killings: “exempt from retaliation” are “a father or mother for killing their offspring” (Manual of Islamic Law, “Reliance of the Traveller”, o1.2(4)).
The Manual is a free download: see net.

There is no honour in Islam. Muslims are completely without honour. They lie freely to non-Muslims. They slaughter children. They rape married women and rape CHILDREN.

What crap. Condemnation of music and songstresses are a canonical part of Islam—as is violence against women who dare disobey their controlling relatives.
As for this being “family politics”, isn’t it odd that such “family politics’ are overwhelmingly Muslim in the case of “Honor Killings”. In fact, 91% of such murders are committed by Muslims.
Sabri S. also does not explain why having someone appear on a singing show is a matter of “family honor” in such a case. In most of the civilized world, in fact, families would be rather proud of having a talented family member compete.

Interesting—but not unusual. After telling us that this attack had nothing to do with Islam, he now switches gears and begins touting “morality” and “modesty” as opposed to “immoral pop culture filth”.
Notice that he believes that “modesty” should be imposed on women at gun point—and worse, that he considers such attempted murder of a young girl to be *morality*.
The fact is, he cannot prevent the mask from slipping, even as he is trying to dish up a load of whitewash. The evil of Islam will out, where murdering a girl is considered “morality”, but daring to raise your voice in song is “filth”. *Ugh*.

Prove it. The islamic world encompasses several regions and people with different cultural backgrounds. And yet, muslims, who are around 1/4 of the world population, commit 91% of “honour” killings worldwide. How is it that people all around the world with only islam in common manage to have the idea that honour killings are a thing they should be doing? Remember: if 14 of the world population is responsible for 91% of “honour” killings, then the remaining 9% are done by the remaining 3/4 of the world population. Talk about overrepresentation.

Were you around a few weeks ago, when those same peaceful Turks were celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Armenian extermination? Also the Germans have apologized continually for the genocide they committed along with restitution. Not a peep from the turks right Tom? The KKK were “water boys” compared to your murdering Turks.

Tom you really need to take a step back here…you don’t know the individuals that post here. Some maybe racist but most aren’t, but that’ s the beauty of free speech, everyone has the right to voice their opinion whether you like it or not.
It’s Islam’s ideology that is the problem here. Why are you not posting on a muslim website, asking them to renounce their Jew hatred, why they aren’t standing as a collective & marching against violent jihad? Why don’t you challenge the mysogeny that’s inherent in islam? Have you even bothered to read the quran along with the other religious texts? Why don’t you speak to individuals who lost family members on 7/7 & 9/11 about the the hole that has been left in their families – all because of ISLAM.
I have worked in the ME, Africa & now Europe – at no other time can I remember islam being so in our faces everyday with their ideology & it’s poison.

Yes, how dare we, racists, condemn a country whose religion mandates the killing of those who don’t adhere to it? Clearly it is we who are in the wrong here, and our sympathizing with the victim and outrage at the killer and the ideology who guided him reflects our almost total lack of moral values. sarc./ off…

Frankly, I don’t think the KKK would give a rat’s ass if a turk murdered another turk. But yes, Tom, you are correct – the people who are outraged because a young girl was shot in the head for singing are no better than the people who killed other people because of their skin colour… sarc./ off.

Huh, there’s not much room for interpretation. People died. Other people willingly murdered them. The murderers are known as “the bad guys”.

Which it did.
“that was a hundred years ago, 30 years further back that the far greater atrocities committed by Nazis, Stalin and the Japanese.”
So? We shouldn’t talk about the Armenian Genocide because other people also murdered millions? That would be a laugh if, you know, you weren’t defending the people who committed a genocide.
“I spent two years in a Turkish village as a Peace Corps volunteer and the people I knew were kind and friendly and as accepting of my religious values as I was of theirs.”
The lack of awareness here is staggering. You lived in a village in Turkey and the people there were nice and friendly, therefore all this talk about genocide is baseless crap? Well, I’ve lived in Germany, and the people there kind and friendly as well, and apparently had no problems in accepting Jews. Does that mean the Holocaust didn’t happen too?

The point of view in this article is very garbled. And I quote: “By “conservative” AFP doesn’t mean “Reagan fans” or “supporters of free speech,” but “given to enforcing Sharia oppression of women by violence.” For the mainstream media, “conservative” essentially means “anything we don’t like.” Um, what is your point? The word “conservative” means different things according to the context. An American conservative is usually a Republican who doesn’t want to pay a lot of taxes, doesn’t think gay people should get to marry or have children and goes to Christian church on Sunday. A Turkish Islamist who ascribes to a strict interpretation of Sharia law may also be called a conservative. If the article is criticizing Western media for not being critical enough of Islam then why would it simultaneously admit that Agence France Press described the home town of Mutlu Kaya, 19, as “the conservative region of Diyarbakir”? According to the previous statement, if “conservative”, when used by mainstream media means “anything we don’t like” then wouldn’t AFP calling Diyarbakir conservative be the same as AFP criticizing it???? But I thought you said they didn’t do that? Huh?
