U.S. troops face eating, drinking restrictions during Ramadan

Jun 27, 2015 8:24 am By Robert Spencer

muslim-American-soldiersDo U.S. troops fast during Yom Kippur? Lent? No? Why not? “U.S. Troops Face Eating, Drinking Restrictions During Ramadan,” by Jeryl Bier, Weekly Standard, June 26, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

A top commander in southwest Asia reminded U.S military personnel stationed in Muslim countries in the Middle East of the restrictions placed on them during Ramadan. According to a report by the U.S. Air Forces Central Command Public Affairs, Brig. Gen. John Quintas, 380th Air Expeditionary Wing commander in Southwest Asia, said that the U.S. is “committed to the concepts of tolerance, freedom and diversity.” But he added that soldiers should “become more informed and appreciative of the traditions and history of the people in this region of the world… [R]emember we are guests here and that the host nation is our shoulder-to-shoulder, brothers and sisters in arms, risking their lives for our common cause to defeat terrorism.”

During the 30-day religious celebration of Ramadan, even non-Muslims are expected to obey local laws regarding eating, drinking, and using tobacco in public. Violators can be fined up to $685 or receive two months in jail. A spokesperson for United States Central Command [CENTCOM] said that “we are not aware of any specific instances of anyone being arrested” for such violations.

\For [sic] military personnel outside of U.S.-controlled areas, the only exceptions for the rules are for those “performing strenuous labor.” Such personnel are “authorized to drink and consume as much food as they need to maintain proper hydration and energy.” It is unclear what constitutes “strenuous labor” or whether additional exceptions might be made during a heatwave affecting some areas of the region that has taken hundreds of lives.

When asked if the restrictions were new or simply a continuation of past policy, a CENTCOM spokesperson replied:

There has been no change in policy… [W]hile the US does not have a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with the UAE, it is common practice to ensure all Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines deployed to Muslim countries are culturally aware that during the month of Ramadan, practicing Muslims do not consume anything from sunrise to sunset as a pillar of their faith. Commanders throughout the AOR create policies to ensure their subordinates respect the laws and culture of our hosts at all times….

Nothing new for the troops here in Bahrain (this is my third or fourth, losing track). A sip of water or a wad of gum can land an infidel stiff fines or jail time. In addition, US personnel are ordered to wear long sleeves and long pants for the festive occasion at any time they are outside of their own residence (ironically, you can always pick out the Americans on the streets as they’re the only ones obeying this). I suspect that this is nothing more than making sure we know our place.

Thankfully, at least on post is designated a Ramadan-free zone. The infidels can eat, drink and PT in whatever they please.

Yep. Everyone is required to recognize that any muslim in any place is *superior* to any infidel. Glad you can eat and drink as needed on base.

Any general or commander who allows this has no sense or else is unfit to be an American leader. This is not at all intelligent, and it shows that the U.S. military is forbidden to know the enemy doctrine. This photo, I am curious are these Muslim American soldiers? Diversity at with weapons? Seems to be dangerous.

You could be more right than you know when it comes to knowing the opposition among the rank and file. In order to not cause offense in my work area, the library that I maintain has to be kept behind the closed door of a cabinet (Mr. Spencer’s stuff, in addition to several other choice titles–I freely distribute copies of The Complete Infidel’s Guide). I loan them out and never feel too terrible if they don’t get returned–just hoping that they’re getting passed along.

The ignorance of the average American is one thing, but I’m having less and less patience all the time for service people with encyclopedic knowledge of (for example) the Star Wars universe, yet can’t tell me who Hassan al-Bana was.

O.k. forgive my arrogance…I have no military experience, I forgot, this is true we have to obey laws of the host country….and that is sharia law to obey fasting (to show respect), for a religion that has no tolerance. If i offended any military person I am sorry…I lost my cool to think of the insane demands of our military.

        Hi cat,
Bahrain is a military ally of ours, we have a Navy base there. On shore leave sailors are instructed to abide by local laws and local customs, even if they seem strange, stupid, or inconvenient.

“Any general or commander who allows this has no sense or else is unfit to be an American leader.”
You are unfit to post words on a blog, and you obviously know nothing about proper conduct for military personnel stationed overseas.

So how does it work for US soldiers over there then?
In order to eat and drink they must remain on base during the day.
In a hot country especially you have to drink plenty of fluids if you are to stay fine but since you can’t drink anywhere in public you are confined to your quarters for an entire month because it offends the locals if they see you drinking water.
OK, so let’s say we should do that. How about they take the tents off their women because our kids might get freaked out. They need to be sensitive to our culture as well when in our country.
We allow them to look and behave any way they like when in our country even if it looks weird to us, but we have to become exactly like them because they are insulted.
You can’t see that we are the ones who have to submit and you are quite happy about that.

What’s next….every member of the US Military Forces guarding the Muslim country is automatically converted to Islam? I’m glad that after 2016 that threat will not be looming over our sovereign AMERICAN freedoms!

It’s time to probe the truthful validity of a religion that its prophet and founder has even deemed that its god is a “deceiver.” Surah 3.54 http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Allah_the_Best_Deceiver

But the mohammedan parasites infesting the West don’t have to respect *our* laws and culture. Instead, our ‘governments’ pander to them shamelessly.

I detect the fell hand of obama in this. I’m only surprised US military personnel aren’t *ordered* to got to a mosque every Friday. Thank God your American laws don’t allow obama to run for a third term.

Hopefully, you will elect a Republican like Ted Cruz, who won’t pander to islam, and will stand for Israel. I wish Colonel Allen West was a candidate. He’d make a brilliant President.

      “and culture.”
Our culture is that people are free, so that is kind of a non-problem in terms of obedience.

In addition to what you mentioned, Obama also foolishly pulled all US forces out of Iraq (and one can conclude this was foolish even if one didn’t think Bush should have gone into Iraq in the first place, though I think he had to but he goofed by trying to implement democracy there), sold the Poles and Czechs down the river on limited missile defense, referred to ISIS as the “junior varsity” and lost all credibility with his “red line” comment to Assad. He’s pathetic, his foreign policy is in a shambles and StarBoy thinks he has shown “great leadership.” Figures.

SP-Obama, besides being commander in chief of our military, also appoints the FBI director and other heads of our security services. Under his leadership a great many plots have in fact been foiled.

WT-“referred to ISIS as the “junior varsity” ”
SP-Yes, IS is JV, our troops could roll over them like a pavement roller. Lucky for IS they are up against the Frosh. But, being the smart guy Obama is, we don’t run to the rescue every time 200 JV sends 2000 Frosh running. Instead, we give them some air cover and tell them to get back in the fight, as in Tikrit. Give ’em some time and the Freshies will mature and start kicking some JV butt.

When our troops under Obama in Iraq fight the enemy they win, and the more we send in the more they keep winning, but hopefully we will not have to mount a full scale ground invasion to push IS out of Iraq.

Here is one example of how our fine troops fight under Obama
          http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/16/middleeast/syria-isis-us-raid/

          http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/02/13/failed-isis-raid-tests-us-forces-in-iraq/

Just the opposite, rather than being scared off Obama is sending in more…the number is over 3,500 now
          http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/isis-terror/u-s-considering-sending-more-military-trainers-iraq-n372656

Hopefully, we can keep the bulk of our people out of direct infantry battles, but some amount of direct involvement in firefights is almost inevitable.

So far, thanks to great leadership by Obama, our casualties in the war against IS have been relatively low, let’s hope we can keep ti that way.

          Hi Angemon,
You are obviously ignorant of our battle readiness and ongoing operations.

A great coach doesn’t send in his first string to finish the game against a weak opponent, rather, he sends in his own second and third string. This gives his weaker players valuable experience and protects his best players from needless injuries. It doesn’t matter if the other team manages to score some points against his own third string because he can always send in a few of his better players from time to time if needed.

I don’t want Obama to use our guys to roll over IS, even though they clearly have the fighting strength to do so. That would generate casualties on our side and reinforce Iraqi dependency on US ground forces.

Nope. Obama has made America the laughing stock of the world (red line in Syria, anyone?), and every two bit (islamic) terrorist group out there knows they can get away with kidnap, extortion and murder of Americans (Benghazi, anyone?). If American troops were still in Iraq (hey, remember when Obama backpedaled and blamed Iraqis for his decision?) there would be no islamic state now with all that entails – no plots of jihadi terrorism in America, etc.

“A great coach doesn’t send in his first string to finish the game against a weak opponent, rather, he sends in his own second and third string.”

It seems your knowledge of coaching is on par with the overall ignorance you’ve been flaunting so far. What you’re suggesting is something only an ignorant coach would do – that’s when giant slaying happens. A great coach studies the opponent and uses the best team for the game. In any case, your analogy is completely off the mark because the boots on the ground are mostly non-american troops – Obama gets no saying in how and where they strike. In fact, some of the so-called “allies” have attacked the islamic state without letting the Obama administration know – they simply don’t trust Obama and the brotherhood members on his administration.

And, of course (and pay attention to this part because it’s important, kid), we’re not talking about sports, we’re talking about decisions that mean life and death for tens of thousands of people – while you keep boasting like an armchair quarterback trying to whitewash Obama and make up whatever excuses you can come up with to rationalize his letting the islamic state grow unchecked, raping and killin non-muslims, when he could have end it before it even began, muslims in the West (USA included) are seeing the expansion of the islamic state as a sign of the favour of allah. Expect to see more and more foiled jihadi plots until it’s simply too much for law enforcement to keep in check, especially because Obama had mentions of jihad and connections of islam and terrorism scrubbed out of counter-terrorism manuals.

          Hi Angemon,
“Like I said, a great coach studies the opponent and uses the best team for the game.”
Which just another way of my saying
“when faced with a weak opponent the first string could roll over and flatten.”
Obviously, to make that determination the coach studied the opponent and used the best team for the game, the 3rd string to avoid 1st string injuries and to give the 2rd string experience.

All you have provided is another one of your endless distinction without a difference “arguments”, which is why I typically do not go line by line pointing out the endless red herrings, straw men, and other forms of sophistry you continually post.

” In any case, your analogy is completely off the mark because the boots on the ground are mostly non-american troops ”
          Exactly!!!
That is what Obama promised!!! Thus, we are avoiding injuries to the 1st string (US troops) and giving the 3rd string experience (the Iraqi military).

Obama has, among his many obligations as commander in chief, the obligation to minimize losses of our own people. We have shed much blood and spent much money to hand the Iraqis democracy on a silver platter. If they want their country they will have to stand and fight for it instead of running away even though they have a 10 to 1 advantage we provided for them.

You seem pretty anxious to send our fine American fighting men to fight and come home in coffins for a people who often refuse to stand and fight themselves. Obama has said “we will degrade and ultimately destroy” and he is doing so at a minimum cost in American lives.

But hey, Angemon, if you think sending in American troops is such a great idea go ahead, get on a plane, join the Kurds or other force against IS, and have the courage of your convictions.

No, it isn’t. Do you really need me to explain why? One would think that after all your chest-thumping and self-promotion, your inability to see something so simple would be damaging to the image you’re desperately trying to pass. Seeing how the islamic state is still growing it’s easy to see how out of touch with reality your analogy is – the alleged “weak opponent” is winning by a landslide, and you’re still cheering for the person responsible.

          “Exactly!!!”

And there goes whatever semblance of the image was still in place after your bumbling blunders across JW…

“Obama has, among his many obligations as commander in chief, the obligation to minimize losses of our own people.”

Oh, is that why his administration is responsible for the new rules of engagement that make it difficult for American troops to defend themselves?

“We have shed much blood and spent much money to hand the Iraqis democracy on a silver platter.”

And as such, Obama withdrew the troops (although he later backpedaled and claimed it wasn’t his decision) and left the “democracy” won at the expense of American blood and money rot and die. It took Obama to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and make American sacrifices an exercise in worthlessness.

Truth is, ISIS could have been stopped before it even existed if American troops had not been withdrawn from Iraq until the situation was stabilized and it was safe to do so. Obama opted to withdraw the troops and take credit for it. ISIS could have been stopped early on at a fraction of the expense of the ongoing war if material and financial support had been given to the right groups when ISIS first reared is ugly head. Obama fumbled the ball on that one too and instead preferred to look good for the cameras, crack a joke and call ISIS a “JV team”. Your attempts to whitewash Obama’s glaring errors won’t change a thing – it’s Obama’s responsibility that ISIS is fighting with American-made weapons. Turns out, withdrawing troops and praising islam (a.k.a., “doing what the terrorists wanted”) did nothing to stop jihad violence – what a shocker!

Of course it is. Whether you agree with the assessment or not both statements are an expression of making an assessment.

No, it isn’t. You claim that a great coach throws his 3rd stringers around, hoping to enough time and resources for damage control if things go south while I claim a great coach prevents damage from being done in the first place.

That you need to be explained something so simple is a testimony to the level of discourse we’ve grown to expect from you.

And, like I said, Obama withdrew the troops (although he later backpedaled and claimed it wasn’t his decision) and left the “democracy” won at the expense of American blood and money rot and die.

Straw man. I never said any such thing.

Pretty lame. What crackpot conspiracy theory website did you dredge up that rot from? “Treason” is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot, rarely with any substance behind it.

“And the U.S. should follow suit! Tunisia plans within a week to close down 80 mosques ”
Do read up a little OK? It’s an easy one to remember ’cause it’s the very First Amendment. The words you have obviously forgotten are “free exercise thereof”.

You are right about the USC’s 1st Amendment’s “free exercise thereof”…but Tunisia is being provident….providing carefully its future security. In time of war the US should be in tune as well; with it’s home grown enemies activities. Anyone who denies that we have known homeland nemesis should be considered a proxy or at worse a traitor.

Your confusing me. In my fondest dreams I hope our leader was really counter-counter-counter intelligence and really was working to help, but of course way too many American soldiers have been lost, the negative propaganda of the U.S. to the rest of world had to have connections of the sort which are in my worst dreams. Now someone is knocking on my door..heart is racing….anyway…if this type of stuff does not happen on base why should it happen at all, it happens because someone thinks we should honor the “religion of peace”. Al Bagdadi said that is not true…and he lives it. Get it?

On the subject of dietary restrictions. Jesus taught “The is nothing that enters a man from the outside which can defile him: but the things which come out of him ,those are the things that defile a man.” Mark 7;15. The in that same chapter, on verses 20:21., Jesus gave the list of the many sins that defile a man. Some of those sins that come out of people are evil thoughts, adulteries murders ,thefts, blasphemy ,pride, etc. The on verse 23 Jesus declared “All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

“…risking their lives for our common cause to defeat terrorism.”

What’s our “common cause” with muslim governments? Enforcing sharia.

Brig. Gen. John Quintas doesn’t know that sharia is the enemy, not “terrorism.” So, rather than fight sharia, he complies with it. That’s worse than not winning — it’s a rout.

    Quintas:
“the host nation is our shoulder-to-shoulder, brothers AND SISTERS in arms…”

Did that jump out at anyone else?

I’m not impressed with Brig. Gen. Quintas, and I doubt the enemy is, either (by “enemy,” I mean jihadist against the west, as understood by rational westerners and unknown to Gen. Quintas). He demonstrates the traits of the new dhimmi feminized military that Obama is building.

One promotion ago, Quintas was the guy in charge when a jihadist murdered and maimed U.S. airmen at the Frankfurt airport a few years ago. He rolled over then, too:

This is really creeping sharia. Do muzzies care about our customs? They don’t give a shit. The soldiers are there on duty not on a holiday. They’ve got to work. Ramadan isn’t good for your health, as it isn’t fasting but asymmetric gluttony. That’s why most muzzies put on weight during Ramadan. So the soldiers should eat and drink as they always do and don’t give a shit about muzzie sensitivities. They don’t respect our way of life either.
