An imam? What? How did someone who has dedicated his life to understanding the Qur’an properly miss all its peaceful teachings — the ones that are so blazingly obvious to non-Muslims like John Kerry and David Cameron?
“US authorities allege Oregon imam assisted radicals,” by Jonathan J. Cooper, Associated Press, July 20, 2015 (thanks to Lookmann):
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — U.S. authorities are seeking to revoke the citizenship of an Oregon imam who they say tried to conceal past associations with radical Islamic groups.
Mohamed Sheikh Abdirahman Kariye raised money, recruited fighters and provided training for insurgent groups battling Soviet forces in Afghanistan in the 1980s, the U.S. Department of Justice says in a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland.
Kariye was one of more than a dozen people who filed a lawsuit challenging the no-fly list, winning last year a court order saying the government must provide information about why people are on the list.
The immigration complaint does not include criminal charges. Government lawyers say Kariye for a time “dealt directly” with Osama bin Laden and Abdullah Azzam, the founders of al-Qaida, and he recruited sympathizers in the United States and Pakistan for an al-Qaida precursor known as Maktab Al-Khidamat.
Kariye is also accused of being a founding officer and director of the now-defunct Global Relief Foundation, which authorities say provided assistance to terror groups including al-Qaida and promoted radical jihad.
Federal authorities say Kariye failed to reveal those details in his application for citizenship, which was granted in 1998.
Attempts to reach Kariye through his Portland mosque and a former attorney were not immediately successful.
Born in Somalia, Kariye came to the United States on a student visa in 1982, according to the complaint. Between 1985 and 1988, he traveled to Afghanistan, where he went to a jihadist training camp and fought with the Afghan mujahedeen against the Soviets. He helped process foreign fighters arriving in Pakistan for travel to training camps, authorities say, working directly with bin Laden and Azzam. At some point, he was arrested for his involvement with the mujahedeen and spent four months in a Pakistani prison.
After returning to the United States in 1988, he applied for asylum and swore under oath that he hadn’t left the country or been arrested.
The Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan in 1989, but the complaint alleges that Kariye returned to Pakistan in 1990 and worked for three years to recruit sympathizers and raise funds for Maktab Al-Khidamat, the precursor of al-Qaida. He was listed as the Oregon point of contact on a 1994 flyer advertising a nationwide fundraising tour for Afghan jihad.
As the longtime leader at Portland’s largest mosque, Masjed As-Saber, Kariye is a well-known figure in the city’s Islamic community. It was not immediately clear Monday whether Kariye is still the mosque’s imam….

Good for us if the authorities succeed in deporting this terrorist imam. In fact they should deport every imam since they all teach jihad to their flocks and are connected to terror groups in some ways or the other. Now hope that the moronic judges in our country would have courage to do the right thing for the citizens of USA! Its funny how in Islamic world anybody reading the Quran twice and getting a pipeline to Mo/allah can become a imam!! Ha, ha,…
RonaldB says
The problem is, we become so mired in procedural requirements, that it’s a long process to deport anyone with a legal fund backing him up. Also, we’re importing Muslims from Syria, Libya, and other countries at a rapid rate.
As far as the requirements for Islamic imams, Islamic authorities are abysmally ignorant of everything in the modern world, but they do have rigorous requirements for Islamic authority. It is a mistake to underestimate the covert threat of Islamic penetration. The Muslim Brotherhood operatives are sophisticated and understand the West better than you imagine. They simply don’t agree with the principles of classic liberal society.

Ronald, how right you are! During the 2008 Holy Land Terror Funding Trial, the evidence presented by the United States distinctly addressed the significance, scope, and strategy of the threat within North America. Indeed, CAIR was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in that trial.
See the following link for a List of Unindicted Co-conspirators:

See also the following link for the article, “CAIR, 20 Years of Terror,” (November 10, 2014) which addressed CAIR’s role in supporting terrorism and also which documented CAIR’s celebration of 20 years of official recognition in the United States:

As detailed in “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America,” the Muslim Brotherhood clearly has an established program to infiltrate every aspect of American institutions, as a “kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers…”
The Clarion Project provides an introduction to the Memorandum as follows:
“The following is the official document from a 1991 meeting which outlines the Muslim Brotherhood’s strategic goals for North America. The document was entered as evidence in the 2008 Holy Land Terror Funding Trial. Federal investigators found the document in the home of Ismael Elbarasse, a founder of the Dar Al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church, Virginia, during a 2004 search. Elbarasse was a member of the Palestine Committee, which the Muslim Brotherhood had created to support Hamas in the United States.”

A comparison of the Explanatory Memorandum with the politically-correct environment now prevalent in American political, religious, academic, and news media institutions reveals that the Muslim Brotherhood is right on track to achieve its grand-design objectives in the United States.

Another Somali Muslim immigrant jihadist! Why do we allow immigration from backward Muslim countries like Somalia, Pakistan, Yemen…etc. where jihad and sharia law are popular? It’s insane.

No doubt Imam Kariye is one of those Imams who would claim no knowledge of Jihadis at his mosque or having heard any “radical teaching”.

Get the bum outa here.

he’s probably related to Secretary of State John Keriye

Masjed As-Saber mosque should be shut down. They knew that Mohamed Sheikh Abdirahman Kariye was an Al Qaeda insider and hired him anyway.
Masjed As-Saber is no more than a hotbed of sedition. No one in Seattle should have any dealings with this group. The city should use every legal means to shut it.
In hindsight, the US made a huge mistake support the Afghan insurgency which turned into a Frankenstein’s monster.

the mosque organization should be sued, the building turned into a pub

Nope. Open an pork butchery there 🙂

Actually, Mortimer, Masjed As-Saber mosque is in Portland, Oregon. This is where a local jihadi plotted to blow up families who had gathered to celebrate the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree three years ago. Or maybe four years ago. If you google the above mosque, you’ll find a lot of attention has been paid to it. Cheers! quotha

I know the answer to this question. He didn’t go to Harvard. Had this scholar been afforded that opportunity for higher learning like, say, ex-Prez Dubya, who not only went to Harvard but also went to Yale, he would’ve been able to understand. Please, don’t send this guy back to his hellhole, send him to Harvard. After all, as the nation sinks into a morass of debt and racist squalor,we are all attending Harvard right now.

Authorities seek to revoke citizenship of Oregon imam who aided jihadis
……………………………
Actually, the part I find salient here is not the “imam…aided jihadis” part of the story—a ‘dog bites man’ line if there ever was one—but “authorities seek to revoke citizenship”.
I would *love* to see more of this—Muslims who entered the US and took out citizenship under false pretenses, lying about their background and swearing false oaths of allegiance paying the price.
In fact, I would like to see every country in the civilized West strip these creeps of citizenship, then deport their asses back to Dar-al-Islam.
RonaldB says

Exactly right, gravenimage.
In Europe, a lot of the boat people purposely destroy any identity papers they had, so they cannot be sent back to their country of origin, on the off chance that the European authorities will actually deport them.
They don’t do that in Saudi Arabia, however. Saudi Arabia immediately deports any illegal immigrant without papers who is even faintly African straight to the airport at Dar es Salaam, leaving them to their own devices.
The Islamic countries understand the tribal nature of Muslims, and understand that any Muslim from a different group is a dire threat. The West does have things to learn from Islam.
Angemon says
Good. May it be the first of many.
So they can’t excuse themselves with “no one knows who he is, he’s not from around here, we’re good muslims and Americans, not extremists, and we denounce any extremists we happen to come across”. Common sense would have anyone associated with him investigated for similar ties, but common sense is a rarity under “dear” “leader” Obama…

There are some serious immigration here.
He came here on a student visa and subsequently traveled to Pakistan for several years. Why wasn’t his visa cancelled after failing to attend classes? Why didn’t his passport exit stamp date prevent his return after his protracted stay in Pakistan? Why no Red Flags about that travel and the timeframe during his asylum request? Was there a fake passport involved?
Many questions.
miriamrove says
As an immigrant myself, I can tell you that our immigration laws are so f….. that when I went to be sworn in for my citizenship they asked me what language would you like? Puzzled, I asked English why? They then said we administer the oath in 60 languages. Pathetic. m
RonaldB says
Right you are, Miriam. We’re lucky that your wanting to take the oath in English didn’t raise suspicions.
Along that track, I notice the ballots where I am are printed in both English and Spanish. Now, the clerks and bankers around here are all bilingual and have Spanish names, but they are completely fluent in English and very competent and helpful, so I have no complaint whatsoever on a commercial organization like a bank serving Spanish-speaking customers.
I do have serious objections to anyone voting who can’t read English. I absolutely do not think ballots ought to be in any language but English, and the inability to speak English should disqualify any potential voter on the face of it.
miriamrove says
I am with you. m
quotha raven says
to Miriamrove and RonaldB – I’d be with you both but, unhappily, it would be unrealistic…California is going to need to make Spanish, Arabic and a bunch of other languages available for “motor voters” – sarc off.
Check the soaring numbers of drivers’ license applicants who are taking advantage of California’s benevolence in granting drivers’ licenses and automatic attendant voter’s registration to illegal aliens, also known as undocumented workers, aka immigrants without papers….who will be voting whether they speak English or not, NOT. They aren’t even CITIZENS! Cheers! quotha
Nan says
What I don’t like is going to a fast food place that’s either a franchise or owned by a large corporation and having the workers, who speak English to me, speak Spanish among themselves in front of customers as it gives the appearance that they’re talking about the customers.
Then again, I was at a party once where a couple spoke Yiddish to each other and I could tell they were talking about me because it’s Germanic so I understood enough…and they used a place name where I had lived shortly after a conversation where that information was included. Because we’re all American, it was obvious. Of course, I shouldn’t expect anything but rudeness from guests when the hostess herself went off on me…she invited me to this party, then went off about how I thought the Jews killed Jesus. As my formal religious education ended at age 7, I had no idea what she was talking about. I thought it was that Roman guy but couldn’t remember his name.

More shocking online radicalization unrelated to Islam.

Good.
The more Muslims the United States deports, the better.
Ban ALL Muslims from entering our nation. Those murderers are not welcome here at all.
In fact, Muslims should have been banned immediately following 9-11 but that was not going to happen.
