“Comey told reporters more than 10 people inspired by the Islamic State’s recruitment online have been arrested over the past four weeks, some of which were focused on attacks around the July 4 holiday.” And now the FBI can’t read what the jihadis are plotting, as it is encrypted.
“FBI says thwarted Islamic State-inspired attacks on July 4,” Reuters, July 9, 2015:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. authorities thwarted plots to kill people in the United States around the July 4 holiday, FBI Director James Comey said on Thursday.
Comey told reporters more than 10 people inspired by the Islamic State’s recruitment online have been arrested over the past four weeks, some of which were focused on attacks around the July 4 holiday….
He said dozens of people in the United States who are suspected to be under the influence of Islamic State militants have “gone dark” because of encrypted data.

CAIR will be out in force to say that this has nothing to do with Islam. Action of a few. m
mortimer says
Eventually, a pattern of arrests of CAIR leaders will emerged (even more than what has already emerged).
When the complicity of CAIR with jihadist groups is fully established, there will be a fatal drop in their credibility and effectiveness. That drop has already begun. I think most Americans already see them as unbelievable liars and propagandists…if those Americans are EVEN AWARE of the existence of CAIR!

Lemme guess, when their credibility hits zero when a CAIR spokesperson appears on a major opinion talk show with news entertainers like Chuck Todd and Bill O’Reilly, instead of just frowning the news entertainer will during his introduction of the spokesperson mutter something about them being Hamas-linked. That’s progress!

@miriamrove.
Right! Just like my green Volkswagon isn’t really a VW and it’s color is red! Makes just about as much sense, right??? Sad to say, I’m afraid there are those who would believe that is true, even if they were standing right in front of my car, and looking at the BIG “VW” insignia on the front GREEN grill.
epistemology says
Totally correct, miriam. CAIR will always deny that any kind of terrorism has to do with Islam only with the extremist fringes. But it stands to reason that CAIR an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood the greatest terror organisation in the world will always sponsor terrorism
mortimer says
The FBI needs to start infiltrating student ISLAMIC STUDY GROUPS to find the subversive jihadists.
The more anyone learns about Islam, the more then learn about JIHAD.
Jihad is the main purpose of Islam. Everything in Islam from reading the Koran to prayer to fasting to family life is a preparation for JIHAD…the war against the dirty kafirs. All Islamic activities are conspiratorial in that they prepare for jihad and promote jihad and SECRECY.
Angemon says
That’s going to be hard to do, with Obama scrubbing counter-terror manuals of mentions of islam, jihad, and the link between islam and terrorism.

His days in the WH are numbered thank god and muslima clinton is far down in the polls.
I think the American people are more aware of what’s going on than we think.

First, a great ballyhoo about impending attacks over the Fourth. Then, no attacks. Now, an announcement that they thwarted them all — but no names of those arrested.
I call bovine fecal matter.

Well said. The Washington pointy headed weasels are at it again. When people like John Wayne were the peoples hero, no one would dare utter such sophomoric nonsense. The NE media savvy pointy heads have dumbed down our people and can now have it their way.

The penalty for failing to provide the key to encrypted data acquired as the result of a search warrant should be 10-25 years in prison, depending on the seriousness of the allegations upon which the search warrant is based. If the Jihadists do not want to reveal the encryption key that is fine. See you when you get out in 25 years. Nothing unconstitutional about it at all.

I’m not the most computer-savvy person in the world, but hey! Can’t the FBI figure out how to “UN-ENCRYPT” the damn messages? Maybe I’ve seen too many movies about the Brits breaking Nazi codes, but I find this preposterous. Maybe I’m wrong, but with computer power to the Nth degree in 2015, how long could it take, even if one has to do it over and over for different encryptions? Or maybe I’m wrong, and technology just ain’t where I imagined it was.

That’s what I thought .
So, now we know ! The whole Edward Snowden exposing of spying really was one huge drama for nothing.?
Just encrypt folks !
quotha raven says
@Ammal – Not to mention the more recent hacking of government holdings of all manner of facts about workers – and their family members – of some 32 million Americans…If encrypting works so well for ISIS, why’s it not being employed by the trusty Federal; guardians of the facts of your lives, of your privacy? Or how about those major corps, banks and health entities who’ve been hacked. Uh oh. I feel a major rage coming on, and it’s so early in the day. Cheers! Quotha Raven

I meant @ Annak. The writing on JW comments is so light grey It’s nearly imvisible, so it’s a typo. QR

Hi QR, that’s ok ( name) I quite like Ammal !!
And further, agree with you, also about the ” rage” haha. I feel it coming on almost continually nowadays.!
But, we are the sane ones for sure. How can anybody not be outraged at what goes on daily around us ???
quotha raven says
@ Annak – Not to mention the recent breaches of government-collected personal data on 32million Americans by unknown miscreants…or recent breaches of millions of Bank of America credit cards, or Target, or medical insurance companies, or….Oh, dear; I feel a massive rage coming on, and it’s still so early in the day.. Cheers! Quotha R

Hi QR, no problem ( name) Ammal actually quite nice !!
Cheers back

The Israelis have developed some novel approaches to breaking encryption, one utilizing the sounds and another utilizing RF energy from the computer.

Those methods still require proximity – in the same room – to the device on which the message is being encrypted, at the time of encryption. The first example using sound does not work beyond about 4 meters. The second article contradicts itself saying you can’t block the attack, then says that applies only to inexpensive consumer grade PCs and that using Faraday cages foils attacks.

Too long, QR. From what I remember reading regarding the docs Snowden leaked, the NSA spent a great deal of money to add backdoors into all manner of software. Their preferred way to deal with encryption was to grab the info before being encrypted or after being decrypted, not actually brute-forcing the encrypted info.

Striking terror into the hearts of kuffar is almost as good as actually attacking. If you are not in position to attack, threaten…

It will likely be found that the OPM data hacked by the Chinese was not encrypted at all. Hackers found that ACA application web sites (ObamaCare) were initially wide open to hacking, as well as no encryption used. I wonder if that has changed.
