Pakistan: Muslim cleric arrested in mob attack on Christians accused of blasphemy

Jul 5, 2015 7:31 pm By Robert Spencer

Rukhsana and Awais QamarA Muslim cleric? How could he possibly have gotten involved in all this? How did he miss all the teachings of peace and tolerance that John Kerry and David Cameron and Boris Johnson are so sure are there?

“Islamic Cleric in Pakistan Arrested in Mob Attack on Christians Accused of Blasphemy,” Morning Star News, July 5, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

LAHORE, Pakistan (Morning Star News) – In a rare move by Pakistani police, an Islamist cleric was taken into custody on Friday (July 3) for inciting a Muslim mob to try to kill a Christian couple for alleged desecration of the Koran, a police official said.

Area residents and rights activists told Morning Star News that hundreds of Muslims in Makki village, near Farooqabad in Sheikhupura District, on Tuesday (June 30) attacked Owais Qamar, 35, and his wife Rukhsana after a neighbor complained that they were sleeping on a salvaged advertising sign inscribed with a koranic verse.

The frenzied mob beat Qamar, a father of four, shaved his head and dragged him through village streets. Rukhsana and two other women of the family were also tortured and their faces blackened with dirt before police rescued them. Such police intervention is relatively unusual in Pakistan, where mobs furious over alleged blasphemy are often left to wreak havoc.

The area sources said Islamic leaders made announcements from the local village mosque that Qamar had desecrated the Koran by using as an in-home mat an advertising sign that contained emblems of various colleges and a short koranic verse related to education. They said that as soon as Qamar, his wife, their daughter Farzana and Qamar’s sister-in-law were brought to the village center, the mob pounced on them, blackened their faces and shaved Qamar’s head.

“Qamar was thrashed by men while his female family members were beaten up by the Muslim women,” said a Christian villager. “The mob later put a garland made up of shoes around Qamar’s neck and dragged him in the village streets.”

The neighbor added that they immediately called police, fearing the violence could get worse and put the lives of the family in jeopardy.

Sheikhupura Senior Superintendent of Police Sohail Zafar Chattha played a pivotal role in rescuing the impoverished Christian family from the mob, which the police chief said was bent on killing them without first learning the facts of the case. Chattha told Morning Star News that he had ordered officers to save the couple even if it meant opening fire at the Muslim mob.

“The clerics leading the mob demanded that police arrest the couple and charge them with blasphemy,” he said. “I told them that I would not register a case because no blasphemy has been committed.”

Instead, he ordered registration of a case against the clerics and 400 others for inciting violence and endangering the lives of the Christian couple, he said.

“The mob wanted to kill them right there, all because they are poor, illiterate people who didn’t realize that a line from the Koran was written” on the sign, he said.

He said that one of the clerics who led the mob and fled the village after the police action was arrested on Friday (July 3). The cleric’s name has not been released.

“We are looking for a barber who ignited the whole issue,” he added.

The police chief said that the couple had been handed over to Christian elders, and that he had advised them not to return to the village as it could endanger their lives.

Blasphemy is punishable by death in Pakistan. The charge is hard to fight because the law does not define clearly what is considered blasphemous. Even presenting the evidence in court can sometimes itself be considered a fresh infringement….

    Revelation Pawn Shop
They are shackled to the Devil claiming they are following the path.
There is nothing but wickedness and disgrace ahead from of all that Islam lacks.
The path that Muhammad left behind reveals its empty promise.
There is nothing but emptiness ahead.

Muslims, don’t waste time hoping for what lies ahead within Islam’s emptiness.
Wake up from the darkness, or spend forever looking back.

My thoughts, exactly. This blashemy business for Gods who never show up is ridiculous as illustrated by the Monte Python crew.

The world would be better off if the blasphemy accusers were persecuted.

Islam has no answers for the modern world, except for Sharia. With powerful’magical thinking’, ANOTHER FAILURE OF SHARIA LAW TO PROVIDE JUSTICE

Muslims believe that Sharia law will realize their fantisies of beautiful utopia…a utopia that so far has evaded Muslims. Whenever in the remote past, caliphates arose that tolerated Western learning, Muslims are quick to call it a Golden Age of Islam, whereas it was nothing of the sort. It was a golden age of Western civilization within a Muslim dictatorship. Such periods were short-lived and when they were gone, it was because strict Sharia law had been imposed.

Sharia crushes independent thought, independent action or independent initiative. Under Sharia, innovation is considered a ‘bad’ thing, invention is stifled and justice is perverted to be discriminatory, supremacist and misogynistic.

Pakistan is headed for even worse days ahead. Pray for the Christians of Pakistan.

A Lazy Paradise is truly a fantasy, ruled out by the second law of thermodynamics. Someone will have to do the preparation before, service during, and cleanup after the martyr’s orgies with the Houris. But for people who can be told in a modern world that the Earth is flat, the Sun goes around the Earth, and believe it, there is a sucker born every second.

Without world-wide reform Islam has only an impoverished future and continuing loss of respect. The apologists are trying, desperately, to save it, while modern communications present its actual works.

Blasphemy is a business in Pakistan and some other Muslim countries to take personal revenge against non-Muslims. !00% of the times these charges are false but the courts and police just make mockery of the laws when it comes to blasphemy against Mo/allah or Islam and accused are non-Muslims. The Muslim crowd foams at the mouth and is ready to kill Christians or Hindus whoever happen to be their target to protect the honor of their religion. What bunch of BS. There is no honor in Islam . Period.

    This is Islam and Muslims…..

Jaladhi wrote: “There is no honor in Islam ” … not in the Western sense of being virtuous and being a ‘man of his word’. In Islam, ‘honor’ means something different as do the words ‘good’, ‘religious’, ‘justice’, etc.

‘HONOR’ in Islam means the threatening power that promotes fear in others. When a Muslim male can no longer provoke fear in others, he must shed someone’s blood, so that his ‘honor’ (threatening power) may be restored.

Nothing is more important in Islam than this sort of ‘honor’. It is worth committing murder to get it.

This IS a rather unusual show of human decency by the Superintendent of Police. There must be an interesting story there. Stories like this, and others that have come out of Pakistan in recent months underscore how blasphemy charges are used by Muslims against non-Muslims. Almost anything and everything is considered blasphemous and the punishment can be death; another reason why Sharia must never be permitted in any way, shape, or form in the US or ANY Western country.

It just shows there is human decency in people in every country. I’m just glad the Police Officer had power and status to save these people.

“In a rare move by Pakistani police,”

Yes is a very very rare move.

The next rare move will be for John Kerry, David Cameron and Boris Johnson to go and meet him in Pakistan and ask him how did he miss all the teachings of peace and tolerance .

This blasphemy thing is getting more and more ridiculous and sinister at the same time. Most of the victims barely have time to clarify or protest as they are lynched by mobs on simple accusals by muslims. Instances immediately come to mind.

Some people put up banners on the private property of a guy in Pakistan. He tore it down and was charged because they contained verses from the Quran.

A medical salesman’s visiting card was thrown into the dustbin by a doctor and the salesman charged him with blasphemy because the card read his name “Muhammad”.

A police officer named Umar thrashed and arrested a lawyer. The lawyers organized a protest and shouted slogans against Umar. They were charged because Umar is a holy name.

These are instances when the accused were muslims and hence were not lynched. For Hindus and Christians, they are lucky if they remain alive to get arrested.

Everyone knows, or should know by now, that, ‘The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam’, is the very root of blasphemy laws…It’s an expression of ‘divine Islamic logic’…

Tolerance is practiced throughout Islam, so say our dolt-head politicos, Obama, Kerry, Cameron, the list goes on. They, the latter, do not give a toss about the murder and mayhem practiced by Islam against Christians, Jews or others deemed infidels.

Political expediency or correctness gone mad… the only ones that get a free-pass are those of Islam.

“Those who insult Him have no rights, including no right to live.
There is no need for trial or hearings”, says the retired judge.
You see, Sharia is simple, inexpensive and easy to administer.
