Robert Spencer in FP: Obama “willfully” supporting al-Qaeda

Aug 12, 2015 9:07 am By Robert Spencer

Michael FlynnIn FrontPage this morning, I discuss some explosive revelations that nobody noticed:

Editor’s note: The following is the first article in the FrontPage series “Obama’s Betrayals,” which will explore the president’s record of perfidy, malfeasance and crimes against the American people. As the Obama presidency enters its final stages, examples of this treachery are only becoming more numerous and brazen. “Obama’s Betrayals” will shine the spotlight on these attacks on the American polity, the incredible damage they are inflicting on the nation, and the dangerous agenda the president intends to complete before leaving office.

It doesn’t get any more explosive than this: a high-ranking former Obama administration official charging that the administration made a conscious decision to support al-Qaeda – so where is the mainstream media?

Brad Hoff reported in Foreign Policy Journal last Friday that “in Al Jazeera’s latest Head to Head episode, former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency Michael Flynn confirms to Mehdi Hasan that not only had he studied the DIA memo predicting the West’s backing of an Islamic State in Syria when it came across his desk in 2012, but even asserts that the White House’s sponsoring of radical jihadists (that would emerge as ISIL and Nusra) against the Syrian regime was ‘a willful decision.’”

When Hasan asked Flynn if “the administration turned a blind eye” to analyses explaining how the Syrian “rebels” against the Assad regime were actually Islamic jihadists who wanted to establish a hardline Sharia state in Syria, Flynn responded: “I don’t know that they turned a blind eye, I think it was a decision. I think it was a willful decision.”

“A willful decision to support an insurgency that had Salafists, Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood?,” asked Hasan.

Flynn responded: “It was a willful decision to do what they’re doing.” That is, arm those Salafist, al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood elements, and do all they could to enable them to succeed.

One has to pause and consider the source for all this. Mehdi Hasan is a highly suspect analyst and Foreign Policy Journal appears to be a pro-jihad paleocon publication, and Al Jazeera is certainly a pro-jihad propaganda outlet. All that is noted, but if this transcript is accurate, former DIA director Michael Flynn is confirming that the Obama Administration knowingly decided to support al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, and directly enabled the rise of the Islamic State.

And given the Obama Administration’s general stance toward the global jihad and Islamic supremacism, what would be unbelievable about that? It has been well known for years that Obama has energetically supported the Muslim Brotherhood – so well known that Egyptians protesting against the corrupt and tyrannical Muslim Brotherhood regime of Mohamed Morsi in 2013 held up signs calling on Obama to “stop supporting terrorism.”

But al-Qaeda? The former head of the DIA revealing that the Obama administration made a conscious decision to aid the organization that murdered 3,000 Americans on September 11, 2001 and has been waging global warfare against the United States ever since? That is something else again.

It would, however, be consistent with so many odd aspects of Obama’s behavior. The President has aroused controversy over his affinity with Islam throughout his presidency, with his extravagant praise of the non-existent Islamic role in the founding and growth of the American republic, his exaggeration of Muslim achievements, his refusal to name the global jihad threat in any accurate manner, and so much more – even small incidents such as his notorious 2008 “slip of the tongue” in which he referred to “my Muslim faith,” right up to the one that broke in February 2015, when a photo surfaced from the U.S.-African Leaders’ Summit in August 2014, showing Obama passing by a group of African delegates with his right index finger raised in a gesture strongly reminiscent of the Islamic State’s now notorious one-finger salute.

That Islamic State, of course, was the direct beneficiary of Obama’s Syria policies, and now Michael Flynn has revealed that that was essentially the plan all along. So why isn’t the honking gaggle of Republican presidential candidates saying anything about this – demanding an investigation, asking Flynn for more information, imploring Obama to come clean about his Syria strategy – anything at all? In a sane political atmosphere, this would be enough to bring down the Obama presidency. Instead, it will get little notice and no action whatsoever.

Why that is so remains a mystery. Can it be that Flynn’s allegations are simply too hot to handle for everyone, and that, if taken seriously, they would bring down many more people than just Barack Obama? That seems to be the only remotely plausible explanation. But it is a deeply disquieting one.

Obama and Hillary chose one tribe against another. The heretical Alawites were thrown under the bus after 100 years of relative stability in the Near East. The reason? Saudi Arabia and Turkey wanted an all-Sunni route through Syria for their gas pipeline to Europe.

Saudi Arabia was willing to pay the US to remove Assad, but instead they funded ‘rebels’ to commit the genocide. The Alawites are literally fighting for their lives.

There are no ‘good guys’. They are all villains and none is willing to compromise with heretics.

Don’t leave out Qatar. 2009, Qatar plans sending gas from Qatar to Turkey via Syria by pipeline. Assad doesn’t like. Qatar begins supporting jihadis in Syria (as it had in Libya) and becomes the prime supplier of weapons for Syrian jihad. While leading U.S. (and French) foreign policy around by the nose.

Qatar established Boko Haram (now part of the Islamic State) and are the Taliban’s closest partner (especially in narcoterrorism, Doha Airport is the global hub for the narcotics traffic that funds jihad).
But even while a leading “state sponsor of terrorism” there was a recent love fest between Obama and Qatar’s Emir Al-Thani at the White House:

Al-Thani “I know that many in the West look at the terrorist threat and say that the problem is Islam. But as a Muslim, I can tell you that the problem isn’t Islam — it’s hopelessness. It’s the kind of hopelessness that abounds in the Syrian and Palestinian refugee camps, and in war-weary towns and villages in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and Gaza. It’s the hopelessness we see in the poorer neighborhoods of Europe’s great cities, and, yes, even in the United States. And it is this hopelessness, which knows no state or religion, that we need to address if we are to stem the tide of terrorism.”

Obama (earlier that week): “What’s true… is that when millions of people — especially youth — are impoverished and have no hope for the future, when corruption inflicts daily humiliations on people, when there are no outlets by which people can express their concerns, resentments fester…terrorist groups are all too happy to step into a void… They try to justify their violence in the name of fighting the injustice of corruption that steals from the people — even while those terrorist groups end up committing even worse abuses, like kidnapping and human trafficking.”

Shades of Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd (no offense Mortimer).

The Republican candidate race has become the Donald Trump circus — they don’t have time for this serious stuff! Come on! They only way any of them would touch this is if Donald Trump did. And he’s too compromised by his business interests to do anything that’s going to involve Islam. Not only that, it would take the attention away from him!

AHHA! WHOA! Now THERE’S a revelation, all you Republican candidates whom nobody is paying attention to. You want to DERAIL Donald Trump? Then take attention away from him and focus it on Obama. THIS is the issue to do it with — absolute treason. Even if somehow this Flynn story doesn’t pan out, if you would focus your complete attention on this story, blow it up into a national headline and pound away on it, and demand that your other fellow candidates pound away at it, Donald Trump would fade into the background and just be a clown in the dark, standing in the sidelines, with the spotlight taken away.

Imagine you, Republican Candidate, the one who’s going to finally do something about the treasonous standing president! And you lay out EXACTLY what you’re going to do about, trials, investigations, conviction — and the ultimate sentence for Obama if he’s found guilty. All those people behind Trump who are so damn sick of politics as usual would FLOCK behind YOU!

But, that assumes there’s a Republican candidate who’s got the guts to actually pull out all the stops and seize the day…

Well I can think of one who will blast this information.. Trump, then others will follow. Someone know how to send this information to him? …..Then maybe some quick help to get him up to speed. Something tells me he knows something is very strange and even made the statement that Hilliary was concerned about his abrupt “tone” and he responded with don’t worry about my tone, but the horrific things happening to Christians in ME. So something says he knows some….and even commits to Israel. It’s a thought and he has an audience no matter how many times he gets dissed.

We better hurry. before the racial tensions start tearing down our cities. This would be a distraction used I am sure to ensure no one hears this message.

    Excerpt:

An interview with retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), given to Al Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan, confirms earlier suspicions that Washington was monitoring jihadist groups emerging as opposition in Syria.

    And …

General Flynn dismissed Al Jazeera’s supposition that the US administration “turned a blind eye” to the DIA’s analysis.

Flynn believes the US government didn’t listen to his agency on purpose.

“I think it was a decision. I think it was a willful decision,” the former DIA chief said.

        COIN Is a Proven Failure

America risks shoveling more troops into Iraq to replicate a strategy that never worked in the first place.

        By DANIEL L. DAVIS • December 1, 2014

        Jon-Phillip Sheridan

In late October MSNBC’s Ronan Farrow asked retired Army Lt. Col. John Nagl to give viewers a deeper understanding of the fight between the Islamic State (ISIS) and Kurdish fighters around Kobane. Widely credited with “writing the book” on successful counterinsurgency (COIN) operations, Mr. Nagl said, “we’ve got 1,500 guys on the ground, but they’re not as far forward as they need to be to make a real, immediate impact on the battlefield.” He and a number of COIN experts argue that along with 15,000 U.S. ground troops, Iraqi, Kurdish, and Syrian rebel soldiers can defeat ISIS. Before making any decisions, American leaders should first consider this: despite what is often claimed by a host of advocates, the COIN theories upon which these recommendations are based were in fact demonstrable failures in both Afghanistan and Iraq. We must not sacrifice any more American lives and harm American interests any further by acting on theories that are likely to fail again.

It has been taken as an “obvious truth” by many Americans and major media outlets that the counterinsurgency strategy brought to Iraq by former general David Petraeus in 2007 turned a near-certain defeat into an historic victory. There were two key fundamentals from which many believe victory sprang. The first was that American troops needed to leave U.S. bases and “live in the neighborhoods” with Iraqi citizens, the second that a surge of troops would give Baghdad “breathing space” to form an inclusive government. Instead of leading to success, however, these twin pillars may have contributed to the failure.

In a study published earlier this year by the National Defense University, authors Sterling Jensen and former Iraqi general Najim al-Jabouri wrote this of the Americans’ effectiveness in Anbar province cities: “[t]he surge did not have a role in the Anbar Awakening. Surge troops that came to Anbar in 2007 were not seen as useful… In fact, U.S. troops in general were not seen as useful even before the surge…”

But the authors’ possibly most pointed finding was that the causal factor behind the eventual drop in violence had little to do with either the increase in U.S. troops or the new strategy: “If not for al Qaeda’s murder and intimidation campaign on Sunnis, and its tactic of creating a sectarian war, the Anbar Awakening—a fundamental factor in the success of the 2007 surge—most probably would not have occurred, and it would have been difficult for the United States in 2006 to convince Sunnis to partner with them in a fight against al Qaeda…”

The Sunni-initiated Anbar Awakening, followed by the Petraeus-led “Sons of Iraq” program, resulted in a dramatic drop in violence. The breathing space purchased with considerable American blood was intended to facilitate the development of Iraqi democracy. Kelley Vlahos, contributing editor for The American Conservative, recently wrote, “in hindsight, the only meaningful space created was for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki” to use America to rid him of political enemies, not the least of which were many Iraqi Sunni leaders and groups.

Maliki’s oppressive rule, which alienated much of the Sunni population in the Western part of the country, was a key factor in the rise of ISIS; his penchant to dismiss Sunni officers and pack the senior ranks of the Iraqi Security Force (ISF) with inexperienced political patrons played a major role in the disintegration of the ISF when the Islamic State began its offensive.

I served in Iraq as a military trainer in 2009, and have twice deployed to Afghanistan (2005, 2010-11). Between my 2009 Iraq deployment and the last Afghanistan deployment—at the height of that surge—I traveled over 14,000 miles throughout both countries, going on mounted and dismounted patrols, with U.S., allied, Iraqi, and Afghan troops, and led a team to train an Iraqi border battalion. I can conclusively state that outside the wire, the counterinsurgency theories were an unqualified failure at the strategic level. The populations were never protected in either country. The insurgent forces were never fully defeated in either country—and are stronger now than they have been at any time since 9/11. The Afghan and Iraqi governments remain the third and seventh most corrupt governments in the world, and do not have the support of their people. The armed forces for both countries, despite the decade-long effort and tens of billions of dollars that the U.S. spent training them, are virtually incapable of conducting even basic security.

It is incomprehensible that with such an extensive, publicly available record of failure—which cost the United States $2 trillion in direct outlays, 6,842 U.S. troops killed and 52,281 wounded in action—that the designers of this failed concept are given any credibility. The conclusive evidence of the failure is on graphic display right now, in both countries: after six full years and tens of billions spent, the U.S.-trained Iraqi army melted away before a few thousand irregular fighters; after the U.S. pulled out of Helmand province in Afghanistan, the Afghan National Security Forces were incapable of preventing an immediate return of the Taliban.

As the president’s national security team continues to develop a new strategy to deal with ISIS—and now also searches for a new secretary of defense—it is more important than ever to make a no-holds-barred analysis of the past decade of combat experience before settling on a new strategy. No matter how many U.S. boots might be placed on the ground in Iraq or Syria in this current environment, they would not be able to accomplish the president’s previously stated objectives. All the additional causalities we would suffer would be in vain.

We must not send any more Americans into the morass of Iraq and Syria with as little concern as one might show shoveling coal into a furnace. They deserve better than to be asked to risk their lives to conduct a no-win tactical mission.

The opinion expressed in this article are those of the author alone and do not represent the views of the Department of Defense or U.S. Army.

Daniel L. Davis is a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army stationed in the Washington, D.C. area. He has been deployed into combat zones four times, winning the Bronze Star Medal for Valor in Desert Storm.

As is so often the case, an obvious truth is a fraud. Petraeus makes me puke because he forced our troops into an ROE in which they served as human bait, with predictable results. Hearts and minds and all that. But these are *Moslem* hearts and minds, they have none of the first and little of the latter.

As has been reported by Spengler, Petraeus’ so-called victory was primarily driven by giving hundreds of millions of dollars to Anbar tribal leaders, most of which I assume now sits in Swiss bank accounts. Yet Fox RINO analysts — Col. Ollie North, Gen. Jack Keane and several others — drone on as if the victory was real. It was a payoff, pure and simple. Meanwhile, the human bait — marines and soldiers — are left with missing limbs, burned faces, injured brains…

There is no guilt. This reminds me of how the ARVN and Viet Cong supposedly won Tet, when in fact they got their asses kicked. But, after heavily broadcast agitprop lies from the likes of “Mr. Trustworthy” Walter Cronkite, they *did* win… the propaganda war. And many U.S. servicemen died in that battle.

Alarmed Pig Farmer, you said, “Petraeus makes me puke because he forced our troops into an ROE in which they served as human bait, with predictable results.”

Yes, indeed. From one personally bit by the viper, stung by the venom.

He is as big a traitor of the troops entrusted to his leadership as is BHO.

As was GWB, and all who empowered and supported all of them in their fool-headed, “winning hearts and minds” mission. Misinforming the troops on Islam and the followers of that belief system. Thereby, by the ROE’s that shacked our troops, by the “missions” given to them, made them easy “helpless” prey to mujihadeen thirsting for their blood.

And yet, by fools and the uninformed on the reality of the Iraqi experiment, Petraeus is touted as a hero.

On his well washed face and hands—as is on the same of all who empowered him and propagated the lie of his grandness and the success of his strategy–remain the irremovable stains of the blood of our children that were spent in vain beneath his command.

Yet a large part of this nation still totes this man as a hero, his strategy of proven failure as a grand success.

Therefore until that egregious disregard for reality is corrected, that proven failed strategy will remain, just as LTC. Davis states, the supposed “strategy of success” to follow. Thus, we can bank, yet to come we have more lives, more limbs, more minds, more futures spent in vain.

While, again, given the unconscionable, the inexcusable, widespread acceptableness of the reprehensibly false claim of the “success of the surge,” we do as we did in Afghanistan: implement a costly and proven failed strategy, because fools are too cowardly to face reality and call a grave and shame-worthy loss just that, and the Iraqi experiment was precisely that.

You stated: “Fox RINO analysts — Col. Ollie North, Gen. Jack Keane and several others — drone on as if the victory was real. It was a payoff, pure and simple. Meanwhile, the human bait — marines and soldiers — are left with missing limbs, burned faces, injured brains…”

Indeed, and the blest, with headstones.

But for the Fox Rino’s you mention above, blood stained, every last one of them, with the blood of the pride and joy of many a father, by the treasures of a momma’s heart, soul, and life that stained, for no lasting gain, all too many a filthy Iraqi road.

Robert, you stated, “In FrontPage this morning, I discuss some explosive revelations that nobody noticed:”

But as I am sure you know, ISIS noticed the new alliance.

What’s more, of course we can handle it–so skilled, so limber, so deft are we come what may, we spin on our backsides, striking a fire to the north, and, with our dexterous toes to the south, hold the fire hose that allows us to control the fires we ignite.

Do it all, mind you, exiting the act, for the most part, unsinged.

As stated above, ISIS noted the new alliance. Spoke to the odd union in Dabiq Issue 9. Referencing, amongst others who speak of the new alliance between Al-Qaida and the U.S., COL Nightingale, Army Colonel (Retired), Airborne Ranger, who commented on our new found friend in Small Wars Journal, 22 March 2015.

There, Nightingale stated, “Our rebel allies are predominately Sunni-based and include a healthy dose of Al Quaida-our [sic] sworn enemy in Iran and Afghanistan has somehow managed to be on our side in Syria.”

(Quick aside: Nightingale also states there what most who follow Iraq closely know, that being, “The elephant that owns the phone booth. It was PM Maliki’s actions that created ISIS.” And of course, we, the U.S. in essence created Prime Minister Maliki. )

Indeed, isn’t it wonderful! Our former sworn enemy now our partner and ally!

Just as was so in Iraq, when Al-Qaida was the noted “bad-guy,” boogie-man, extremist terrorist. The mujiheed from the Iraqi Resistance–many who joined either Hezzbolla or Al-Qeada ranks, fought side by side and in union with countless other Islamic groups there targeting who they called “The Occupation Forces,” chief amongst those forces, U.S. troops—suddenly, those “Sons of Iraq” were our allies.

Not to worry, many of the said Sons undoubtedly had the blood of our children on their hands, feet, and U.S. provided BDUs. Now they were willing, for a fee, of course, to fight those whom we stated must be defeated if we were to claim “Victory” in our mission in Iraq.

Therefore, we reasoned, arming “the Sons of Iraq,” funding them, training them was only reasonable; and as we know, in large part, doing so is what brought our “victory over Al-Qeada in Iraq.”

Hence, given our noted “success,” why refrain from pursuing the same strategy of “success” with Al- Qeada’s Sons of Islam and our present sworn enimigo numero uno, ISIS?

As stated, as our former experiences and “successes” in such ventures provide, we can handle such balancing acts.

This fact has been known for years. US/NATO waged an extremely ruthless war for months in Libya for Al Qaeda and other Muslim terrorists against the innocent Libyan people and Gaddafi. GADDAFI WAS FIGHTING AGAINST AL QAEDA.

U.S. aircraft hunted down Gaddafi enabling the Muslim savages American leaders’ supported to violently sexually and physically attack Gaddafi and murder him. The EXACT same way the U.S. ambassador was later murdered by the Muslim terrorists the ambassador and Obama and Clinton supported.

Obama’s rabidly anti-Christian, rabidly pro-Islam regime is eager to support/wage war for Al Qaeda and ISIS monsters against INNOCENTS.

Compared to the barbaric Muslim savages – Al Qaeda, ISIS and other monsters that Obama supports, Assad looks like a saint.

It’s the goal of ISIS, Al Qaeda, other Muslim terrorist savages, American and Turkey’s leaders to destroy the secular, highly popular, legitimate Assad regime and replace it with the most barbaric terrorist savages that ever walked on God’s earth.

It’s also the goal of the Obama regime that America and the entire Free World is conquered by Islam and enslaved under barbaric sharia law.

Have not all elected officials taken an oath to defend America from all enemies both domestic and foreign?

He wanted to remove Mubarak in Egypt-and SO DID HILLARY. They replaced him with Morsi OF THE Muslim Brotherhood, but the people of Egypt “rejected this Dictator and ousted him.”

I always felt Obama WANTED to have Muslims/Islam take over America and actually the world. He has secretly BEEN brining M.E. Muslims/Islamics Here , under the guise of “Refugees”, as he’s opened our southern borders like “Sieves” through which MANY are streaming over the border in “Obama’s Illegal Alien Invasion of America, turning us into a DUMPING GROUND.”

Obama could NEVER be trusted, and he SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM OFFICE LONG AGO, BUT NOW, HE’S WORKING AT “FULL FORCE TO ATTAIN HIS AGENDA, AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, AS HE CALLS OUR NATION….”ARROGANT, ON A HIGH HORSE”, AS HE TRYS TO PUNISH US, BECAUSE AS A MARXIST, HE ACTUALLY does HATE AMERICA-WHITE COLONIALIST AMERICA, OUR FOUNDING FATHERS, AND OUR CONSTITUTION/BILL OF RIGHTS, THAT HE’S DESTROYING ON A DAILY BASIS. IT’S TOO BAD, WE DIDN’T HAVE A CONGRESS TO “SEE HIS AGENDA FOR AMERICA, THAT HE ACTUALLY DOES WANT TO BRING ABOUT HER DEMISE….AND THEY ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN.”

HE IS A TRAITOR TO AMERICA, AND THOSE WHO DENY, ARE ALSO THE ONES HE’S PUT INTO POSITIONS TO HELP HIM.

This should not be news any more. If as the authors of ‘House of Bush, House of Saud’ make clear, the US has been in thrall to Saudi since at least 1974, then Saudi effectivy runs Washington diplomacy in the ME. The UK has been supporting Islam and Pakistan since at least 1918. Every time we buy petrol/gas, we pay for Jihad. Obama is simply doing what every US Pres before him has done, but more so…
