Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Hoax: Muslim clockmaker didn’t build clock, just put existing one into pencil box

Sep 19, 2015 10:28 am By Robert Spencer

This makes it all the more likely that this entire incident was planned: the idea was to scare school officials with a suspicious-looking object and then cry “Islamophobia.” And it is all working beyond, I expect, even their wildest expectations. Be sure to read the detailed explanation here; all I’ve reproduced below are some of the most important conclusions.

clock

“Reverse Engineering Ahmed Mohamed’s Clock… and Ourselves,” by Anthony, ArtVoice, September 17, 2015 (thanks to all who sent this in):

…So there you have it folks, Ahmed Mohamad did not invent, nor build a clock. He took apart an existing clock, and transplanted the guts into a pencil box, and claimed it was his own creation. It all seems really fishy to me.

If we accept the story about “inventing” an alarm clock is made up, as I think I’ve made a pretty good case for, it’s fair to wonder what other parts of the story might be made up, not reported factually by the media, or at least, exaggerated.

I refer back again to this YouTube video interview with Ahmed. He explains that he closed up the box with a piece of cord because he didn’t want it to look suspicious. I’m curious, why would “looking suspicious” have even crossed his mind before this whole event unfolded, if he was truly showing off a hobby project, something so innocuous as an alarm clock. Why did he choose a pencil box, one that looks like a miniature briefcase no less, as an enclosure for a clock? It’s awful hard to see the clock with the case closed. On the other hand, with the case open, it’s awful dangerous to have an exposed power transformer sitting near the snooze button (unless, perhaps his invention was to stop serial-snooze-button pressers by giving them a dangerous electrical shock!)

So again, I’m pointing all this out – about the specifics of the clock – not to pick on the poor kid. I’m picking on us, our culture, and our media. I don’t even care about the clock itself at this point.

If we stop and think – was it really such a ridiculous reaction from the teacher and the police in the first place? How many school shootings and incidents of violence have we had, where we hear afterwards “this could have been prevented, if only we paid more attention to the signs!” Teachers are taught to be suspicious and vigilant. Ahmed wasn’t accused of making a bomb – he was accused of making a look-alike, a hoax. And be honest with yourself, a big red digital display with a bunch of loose wires in a brief-case looking box is awful like a Hollywood-style representation of a bomb. Everyone jumped to play the race and religion cards and try and paint the teachers and police as idiots and bigots, but in my mind, they were probably acting responsibly and erring on the side of caution to protect the rest of their students, just in case. “This wouldn’t have happened if Ahmed were white,” they say. We’re supposed to be sensitive to school violence, but apparently religious and racial sensitivity trumps that. At least we have another clue about how the sensitivity and moral outrage pecking order lies….

Indeed. We’re supposed to be sensitive to school violence, but avoiding offending Muslims trumps that, and everything else. Nowadays Presidents and Prime Ministers, Kings and Princes, Bishops and Priests, college administrators and professors, everyone everywhere knows that Muslims and Islam must be respected, honored, accommodated and appeased at all times, and in all places, and in all situations, and that those who dissent must be shunned, libeled, vilified, and ostracized.

I see an analog here. He puts an operable clock into a maze of peripheral nonsense in the form of extra wires, switches, diodes, capacitors, couplings, etc. so that it seems like the clock itself is the final piece of a larger machine, the output component, so to speak.

That’s what the Holy Prophet Mohammed did. An illiterate, he was counseled by a rabbi on retainer to explain how Judeo-Christianity worked, threw some Arabic tribal geegaws and doodads around it, and declared a divine epiphany. No we have over a billion broken clocks in the world, every one of them wired to sound the alarm and detonate the theological bomb at any moment.

Islam is no input and all output, the perfected perpetual motion machine. Praise Allah!

If that boy tried to get on a plane with that wired up contraption TSA would have arrested him.
If he had walked into a restaurant with that contraption he would have gotten arrested or worse.
Football stadium, Baseball Stadium, or government building same thing. If he came to your house with this contraption, if he is lucky he gets arrested.

So he comes to a school full of kids and gets arrested. Thank God. The system is working to protect our kids.

Just another Muslim testing our kaffir self defenses and they worked this time.

It’s not merely testing whether our defenses are down; it’s also provoking us to respond with more PC MC anxiety (as if our Western mainstream isn’t already anxiously deferring to Muslims already — but hey, the more the merrier).

And guess what: the Western mainstream has done just that — on both Left and Right, the broad consensus is against the Counter-Jihad view on this.

So true, Voegelinian, it seems the broad consensus is for mass suicide. This is actually understandable because most people today were not disciplined properly (like being honest, respecting parents, respecting values, etc.) when they were young. As a result they do not have traditional boundaries and have total disregard of life’s consequences.

The engineer who wrote the article did a lot of research in putting the article together and included some of his own thoughts on electrical engineering and what this story says about our culture.

Great read. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

      Sep 19, 2015 at 12:15 pm

There are two points that the main story did not make, but were made in the comments:

      1) Ahmed did not purposely show off the “clock” after showing it to his science instructor. The alarm went off in his backpack and the English teacher asked to see it.

      2) The picture of the box with the wires hanging out is after the police had poked around on it. We don’t know what it looked like before.

My conclusion, which anyone is free to reject, is that the project shows that Ahmed is possibly an engineering type, and may, or may not, create something original in the future. What’s so bad about repackaging something as a first project? It certainly doesn’t merit an offer, or even a glance, from MIT or NASA, but if it is a milestone of personal development, it served its purpose.

The school was perfectly justified in calling the police, and the police were justified in removing both Ahmed and his “clock” for further investigation. The actual history of the display of the “clock” and the request by the English teacher to see it do not merit a charge of a bomb “hoax”. But, we have learned to give up any hope of our highly-paid educators making a rational decision, so we end up with the 3-day suspension.

Will the incident serve as a means of raising the bar before reacting to indications of terror activity? Of course. Obama has seen to that. The most productive approach to preventing terror incidents is to have a very low threshold for preventive investigation, but a higher threshold for punitive measures. Thus,

Your conclusion merits an award for far out FICTION. By the age 14, any electronics geek would have made many of his own electronics, some simple and others more complex. Add to that, the fact that his parents are associated with terrorist-linked CAIR, makes this scenario all the more suspicious. This was an orchestrated attempt to make this a massive media carnival with no doubt the intention of a large payout from the school district as an addendum.

As an electronics professional I can definitely confirm that a 14-year old just doesn’t put together the circuitry needed for this kind of clock.

Maybe, just maybe, he could have velded together the parts of a premade kit with some help from an adult, but he would definitely not have designed the circuitry.
This was obvious from the minute I saw the pictures of the clock in the news stories, the kid didn’t invent anything.

What the kid did was put a digital clock into a briefcase, a simple task a 14-year old easily can achieve.

Hailing the kid as a “genius”, “the future of Silicon valley” and all that other nonsense in the media, is just beyond rediculous.
I applaud the kid for beeing intrested in tech but the adults in the media and the POTUS are deifintely beeing carried away by their own “islamophobia”-propaganda to the point of looking utterly stupid.

      “Dear Mr. Mohamed Mohamed,

“Hello and Walaiaikum Assalam! We want to say again that the President will be pleased to accept your visit to the White House on September 29 and hope your schedule permits this. We think you will agree that while you and little Ahmed will need to be searched upon entering, it would be in the best interest of everyone involved if this momentary part of your visit does not become a feature of the event, and in fact we trust you will concur that it would be best for it to go unnoticed, in case any mean-spirited folks out there would try to exploit it for their Islamophobic agenda.

Right. All that would be necessary would be to solder a couple of wires to the piezo buzzer (or remove it entirely) and hook the other end to a detonator. Set the time and the time the alarm is supposed to go off. Presto – a bomb!

This is definitely a factory-made circuit board. When I have made my own devices, I used perfboard and flea clips or wire-wrapped the wires to the component leads. Messy, but it works. Some people will draw out and etch their own circuit boards. But this circuit board looks nothing like that. The kid didn’t invent ANYTHING.

Since the father said he didn’t blame the school or the police, but instead laid the blame on the mayor, this smells like a political attack on the mayor, who refused to allow a Sharia’ court in her city a few months ago.

No, but he plunked MIT and Obama.

Moving stuff from one box to another box is not inventing.

Many here commenting on this site, commented on the original story…where he said he had it in his backpack and plugged it in, whereby it beeped. He declined to give information, and since it was suspicious, and he was in school with innocent young people who deserved to go on breathing…said as much as this article states Many recognized it as a set up.

Many of those commenting on the original, and the follow up where he was shown to be a liar…he claimed he made it to show the teacher…English…who didn’t appreciate it quite so much and it was “sad” that she wasn’t impressed….recognized it as a set up.

The teacher, as said earlier on a different thread…chose to err on the side of caution…and the police were called. It was the Right thing to do. We all who usually comment here are fully aware that Right is different from “politically correct.” She didn’t act with political thoughts….she acted to protect the children and others at the school. She did the Right thing.

And if the not so smart kid does anything similar in the future, she should react in the same way.

the whole thing sounds like a set up, a provocation, just like the guns holder sent to criminals in fast and furious

BTW why locate the comments box all the way at the bottom of the comments?

The clever Muslim has played the ” cry wolf” trump card, that in turn triggered the Islamophobia switch. Now the way has been paved.

In the future if another young brown Muslim immigrant kid brings a suspicious looking contraption to school, in the guise of some kind of science experiment, then the school authorities and the police will think twice before any knee-jerk reaction is made.

So much for the safety of school kids, sacrificed on the altar of Muslim sensibilities.

I’m a young brown Muslim with immigrant parents, and I like science and engineering. Are you automatically assuming I’m going to do what he did? I want to build something, but not in the way Ahmed did, and I want to prove that not all Muslims are bad people. Thank you though, for being nice enough to show Ahmed is a wrong-doer.

IT JUST GETS WORSE AND WORSE

Obama who did a victory lap with deserter Bowe Bergdahl’s parents at the Rose Garden, and said of brutal, racist, drug abusing, homophobe Trayvon Martin that if he had a son he’d look like him is now inviting what appears to be a wannabe teenage terrorist bomb maker to the White House who intentionally scared school authorities into believeing that he could be the real thing. What next?
