Indonesia: Police open fire on church, kill 15-year-old boy

Sep 10, 2015 10:47 am By Robert Spencer

When the police are corrupt and compromised, what recourse do good citizens have? And in Muslim countries the police can often be made up of Islamic supremacists who sympathize with mobs who victimize Christians, or who believe that Christians should abide by Sharia restrictions not to build new churches or repair old ones. And this incident appears to be even worse.

Karubaga

“Police chiefs under fire as police kill boy and inflame religious tensions,” Free West Papua Campaign, July 20, 2015 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

A 15 year old boy, Endi Wanimbo, has been shot dead and 11 others injured when police fired on a religious congregation in Karubaga, Tolikara district, West Papua on 17 July. So far no police have been named or arrested for perpetrating these crimes.

Following the incident ANTARA News reported that National police chief General Badrodin Haiti visited the crime scene in person on Sunday, where he admitted that the police had opened fire during the incident. “The victims were shot because they were pelting stones at Muslims who were just performing Eid prayers,” he said after visiting Karubaga.

Haiti’s version of events is contradicted by a Tempo.co report of 18 July that said, ‘Natalius Pigai, a commissioner at the National Commission for Human Rights, said “It seems to have been a misunderstanding that Evangelical Church of Indonesia (GIDI) is being hostile to Islam. In fact, they were not planning to burn the mosque. People were upset because of the police shootings”.

Reporters from Karubaga shed further doubt on Haiti’s statement. They told FWPC that the conflict began when a Muslim loudspeaker disrupted a seminar being held by GIDI.

Having given prior notice of their meeting to the police via a written circular, members of GIDI were upset that their meeting was disrupted and went to the Mosque to discuss the matter. GIDI members claim that police failure to notify the mosque of their request led to the conflict. According to eye witnesses, soon after police arrived they started blindly firing into the crowd.

Tempo.co reported that: ‘Pigai explained that GIDI mass were upset and launched a protest to police officers guarding around the location. “They protested because they have sent a notification earlier, and the officers shot them,” Pigai said.’

The shootings sparked rioting in which local stalls were burnt and fire quickly spread damaging Baitul Mutaqin mosque. It appears that police actions stirred up religious tensions and Police Chief Haiti is now seeking to blame Papuans.

Tribal and religious leaders from both sides were quick to make statements in attempts to calm the situation. At least 153 victims of the conflict, were evacuated to tents at the Karubaga Military Headquarter on Saturday….

The only people who get mad at you for speaking the truth are those who are living a lie. This goes for anyone.

Agree. Muslims must ALL live a lie to avoid being denounced in one way or another. They hide their jihad from kafirs and they hide their slackness and apostasy from other Muslims.

All Muslims are forced to lie continually out of fear of one another. But they lie to the dirty kafirs out of PLEASURE!

The proud people of West Papua are not Indonesian and most definitely not Muslim. They are Melanesian. They are the same flesh and blood as Papua New Guineans. The sooner West Papua gain independence, the better. Until then the genocide against West Papuans at the hands of the Indo military will continue. Free West Papua!!!

    The reason is this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfSsbdofehs

It is worth noting that the church is an evangelical. This is a relatively new phenomenon in muslim countries ( Egypt has just allowed its first one), and muslims simply are not used to their “brothers” being proseletyzed to. . Churches in muslim countries are invariably “orthodox”(of the region). This is happening all over the muslim world. Very few were aware of what was happening in the Far East, until the mainstream media got hold of it:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/10776023/China-on-course-to-become-worlds-most-Christian-nation-within-15-years.html

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8322072.stm

Meanwhile, here is the latest from Iraq and Saudi:

    http://www.juancole.com/2014/02/death-iraqis-exists.html

    http://www.salon.com/2014/06/12/atheism_explodes_in_saudi_arabia_where_just_talking_about_atheism_is_illegal_partner/

Islam is collapsing. It is PRECISELY BECAUSE IT IS COLLAPSING that a lot of this violence is happening.

      Peter,

Thanks for bringing out some info about evangelical Churches

The Egyptian evangelical church is news to me.

China has welcomed foreign capital along with it came missionaries. China used to fear the Christians and Islamist by the same breadth but now it is perhaps seeing the vile of Islam and its obsession with savagery and enslavement . The house churches have been doing well in China for a few decades and the paranoia of authorities about Christianity is on the decline.

The arrogant Islamist do not trust Christians much like they don’t trust anyone. in their cult culture they must enslave everyone hence the contrast with Chinese.

When Islamic state will be brought down much of Islamic world will come its senses until then they will be on the killing spree (in the PCMC west and Muslim majority states) They will not dare touch India, China, Russia, Singapore and to some extend OZ for their retribution. This is the ONLY language the Islamist understand.

This will get worse and it will be unpredictable. Very similar to Pakistan. Any country that is nearly 100% Muslim is aiming for 0% Christianity.

Even if they were, it’s clearly a disproportioned response. No, the most likely scenario is SWC – Shot While Christian.

The conflict in West Papua is separatist-ethnic-racial, same as the conflict which was in Aceh.

Indonesia had Muslim separatists in Aceh, and the Indonesian military shot plenty of Muslim Acehnese to death during the insurgency. The Acehnese Muslims under Hasan di Tiro and Libyans under Gaddafi supported the animist West Papuan insurgents,

In Indonesia, non-Muslim Dayaks even got away with beheading and hacking thousands of Madurese Muslim settlers to death and the Indonesian government didn’t retaliate or do anything to the Dayaks. Tell me any other country where stuff like that can happen.

West Papua is about native Melanasians vs Austronesians, an ethnic separatist war. Stop with the crap injecting of religion into this.

Semeru will put the pernicious punks in their place who try to hijack these events in Indonesia for their own agenda. As he said, you guys talk so much crap about Islam in southeast Asia.

Let’s see: mazo claims that the conflict in West Papua is “separatist-ethnic-racial” and compares it with what happened in Aceh, which was caused by muslims trying to live in their own sharia state – ergo, religion based – and then berates us for our alleged “injecting of religion”. And he expects to be taken seriously.

Its funny how Kurdish women and girls have the courage to fight on the front lines against terrorists while the gelded keyboard warrior loser with a Filipina mail order bride doesn’t have the balls to do it, despite him vocally wishing violence upon Musims and threatening to box Semeru.
